It was another day in Soul Society, the sun was rising, the birds were chirping, a mountain moving up and down forward, kids were laughing, everything was as normal.
... Actually, the mountain thing may be a bit strange for most.
Well, not that the reason was strange per say. The mountain was actually not moving, not really, it was being carried by a man right now.
He looked quite young, looking at his late teens to early twenties with tan skin, short bdark purple hair, and golden irises. he had a white haori with the symbol of 2 in his back and was moving through the countryside at considerable speed.
"Huff, huff, this training is not bad. Not bad at all." he said with a smile as he continued in his way. As he moved he would sometimes throw the mountain a few tens of meters up, move to a handstand, and when the mountain was balanced again he would continue moving. His face showed a shit eating grin as he could sense the strain in his muscles.
'Signs they were improving' were the words his sister used to say to him before she disappeared after rescuing that scum Urahara. He was of the honest opinion that she was somehow cheated into helping that man who was responsible for what happened with his friends back then.
To say that he had a dislike for Urahara was like saying that Yamamoto was a bit old, an understatement if he ever heard of one.
in the distance the Onmitsukidō watched over their commander's training with bored expressions, already long since used to his demonstrations of physical capacity that defied what any soul reaper should be able to do. Many speculated that right now he was already amongst the strongest captains of the Soul Society and just last year he had been invited to become part of the Squad 0 but refused the invite.
He was the first person in Soul Society's history to refuse an invite to be part of that squad, but he did it anyway.
At this moment a new agent appeared where the others were guarding their captain and spoke.
"I have orders, Soi Fon fuku-taichou sent word that she needs to meet the leader as soon as possible and without delays." The new agent said and the others nodded. They all moved quickly towards their commander.
Getting to him they were about to speak when he did it for them.
"Let me guess, Soi Fon needs me for something work-related, again, right?" He said and the members of the Onmitsukidō could only nod. Smiling in amusement the man threw the mountain up in the air and pulled his zanpakotou out of its scabbard. He looked at the rock as he moved his blade, he remember when his sister showed him her Shunko, the ability to cover the body with a kido element and focus on it to the extreme to reinforce the body and give it certain elemental capacity.
Well, while the concept was great he never liked using the technique the way his sister and others did as it limited him to only one element possible. Instead he focused it in a different way, instead of covering his body with the Kido energy he concentrated it over his sword, light covering it completely as he did so before he released a single slash, the light extended the range of his sword and cut through the entire mountain of 180 meters tall in half cleanly, the two sides falling to either side of him as he did so.
"Phew, light is not a bad element to use when it comes to simply cutting." he said as he admired his work. He had developed this modified Shunko to be able to deal with any type of enemy, added to that his own physical prowess was already more than shocking. As for the reason he went so far to create alternative ways of getting stronger instead of just using his Zampakutou like most others, the reason was quite simple.
He likes to fight, and if he uses his sword then he wins too fast for him to enjoy it.
"Well, see you all back in the base." The man said as he moved, before anyone could react he was gone using his shunpo. The members of the Onmitsukidō already knew their leader was fast but they still had to wonder if he already was faster than his older sister or not.
There were many who called him the Second Flash, but he still was not sure if he deserved such a title.
This was the type of man Yoh Shihoin, the head of the Shihoin clan, was.
Reaching the gates of Soul Society Yoh looked at it, the grand gates were certainly quite big and he had to admit that it had an imposing appearance, but he wanted to sigh a bit at how many of the shinigamis inside were just plain lazy, not trying their best to improve as they well should.
When he got close enough the guard, Jidambo, saw him and without waiting for even a second raised the doors for him to pass. Yoh turned to him and spoke.
"Thanks Jidambo," He said and Jidambo nodded with a grim, the two might not be close at all but the giant appreciated this captain who was actually not as stuck up as most others.
Moving through the Gotei 13 Yoh was going towards the barracks of squad 2 when he saw one of the people he honestly despised almost as much as Urahara.
"Oh, if it isn't muscle for brains captain. Is everything going well over at your newest stupid exercise or did you see a bug and chased after it like the simpleton you are?"
"Oh, if it isn't the number one face for the ugliest beings in Soul Society. But I must admit, you came a long way. You went from a petty and ridiculous criminal who deserved death to a petty and piece of garbage who is only kept alive because you can be somewhat useful once in a while despite still deserving to die. It must be nice, knowing that you only became captain because the previous one was even crazier than you." Yoh answered back to Mayuri who went to take out his sword in a fit of rage only to stop.
Speak what you will but after being plummeted to the ground a few dozen times by Yoh when angry taught Mayuri that fighting him head-on may not be the best idea out there.
however, that did not stop the stare down and the heavy spiritual pressure both exuded just by the glare they send one another.
However, Yoh had better things to do so he turned away and left Mayuri behind without another word, Mayuri too turned and left back to his lab. He had some matters to deal with but he lost all interest in doing anything after this meeting.
Yoh then managed to enter the Squad 2 barracks and was not shocked to realize everyone scurring away from him as if he was a plague as a heavy pressure exuded from the center of the place. Yoh could well imagine that the cause was his lieutenant being quite a bit angry at something, likely him to be honest, and no one wanted anything to do with that mess.
As soon as he opened the doors it was to no surprise that Yoh instantly dodged low as to avoid the shoe that flew in his direction. Feeling that this was going to be one of these days Yoh began to move, avoiding the attacks from Soi Fon who was going against him with all her barely restrained anger.
She was fast, likely the second-fastest shinigami in Soul Society right now and easily equal to most captains, but her attacks were all paried or dodged by Yoh who knew his movements by heart.
After a few minutes of this where the two moved all over the Squad 2 barracks, Soi Fon finally calmed down. As if nothing had happened she spoke.
"Then? Did you improve in your training?" She asked, deep inside a note of pride in her voice.
As a retained of the Shihoin family she lived to serve the family to the best of her abilities and while she did not really agree with some of the things Yoh did she was certainly the one who approved of his desire for strength and his hatred the most.
"Yeah, running laps with a mountain using only my hands half the time while trying to keep balance really helped." Yoh said easily, ignoring the tired sigh that escaped Soi Fon's mouth at this newest training. He was still as absurd as always without any signs of changing his ways.
"... Very well. I called you because of a letter from the Tang Noble Clan about a marriage proposal between y-"
"Pass." Yoh said easily enough, making Soi fon bristle a bit at that.
"Can you please, PLEASE, just marry someone already?" She said in exasperation and a bit of anger. "You are the head of one of the Four Great Clans, the fact is that one of your duties is to ensure a continuation of the Shihoin bloodline, as such you must marry at least once already. And I will be honest, I have no clue why you won't marry. I mean, someone in your position could marry as many times as you wanted thanks to the-
"Perverted old man law."
"The clan preservation law." Soi Fon corrected, which made Yoh smirk. He was well aware that the clan preservation law was passed down to ensure heirs as any clan head or someone high enough in a clan can have multiple wives or husbands to help ensure that they can get heirs.
In truth, Yoh long since found out the one who passed this law was some old clan head who, after passing this law, married 57 times and spent the next few years in debauchery non-stop.
Thus why Yoh called the law as the 'Perverted Old man law.'
"You can't just pass the proposals of all clans, you must choose a wife already." She said resigned.
Yoh just rolled his eyes at that before sitting in the comfy chair he had ordered made to be as comfy as possible.
"What else do you have, if it is just that I really would rather go train more. I still am not strong enough." Yoh said and Soi Fon scoffed.
"And when exactly would you be 'strong enough' captain?" She asked unamused.
"... When I can defeat Yamamoto-taichou probably." Yoh admitted lightly which made Soi Fon scoff. Yamamoto Genryusay was the head captain for a reason, he was the strongest no questions asked.
"Anyway, there has been word of some disturbance in the human world. It is nothing too big but you did say that any disturbance related to the human world was to be alerted to you immediately." She said and Yoh nodded with a thoughtful face.
He always was in search for it, traces of his sister and that traitor so he always looked for ways to look into the human world. If there was any sign he would find out and search for them without stopping until he was sure they were not around anymore.
"Where is it that this disturbance happened?" Yoh asked and he got his answer easily enough.
"It was on a small city called Karakura in Japan. Captain Shiba was around at the time as well but we heard nothing of him since. A team should be sent to that place soon to investigate." Soi Fon said and Yoh shook his head.
"Tell the soul captain that I am going. For a captain like Chiba to not answer back is weird, if anyone could defeat him it would need to be at Captain level, and on the human world, there should be extremely few who can fit.
"It may be a long shot but I am going to risk it regardless." Yoh said and Soi Fon nodded her head, even if disgrunted. "Perhaps I can even visit that Quincy community I helped set up around that area." He said amused and Soi Fon bristled at the reminder.
"Captain, you only set up such a thing because you wanted to piss off Mayuri, so why do you sound so pleased about it?" She asked, used to the annoyance that her captain could be once in a while but knowing that he was certainly the most effective of the current captains in what he is supposed to do, which did not help her mood at all.
"Because it worked in pissing him off." He said, remembering how infuriated Mayuri got when he set up that place for the Quincy and made it so that whenever Mayuri tried to approach to capture one for research Yoh would have valid reason to hit him around quite heavily. "Also, despite the fact they were once our enemies we should not try and destroy a whole race just like that. They can also help in eliminating the hollows or at least warn the Shinigamis close by to deal with the hollows. We are too few to help everyone and they certainly can help."
"Are you sure it isn't because you enjoy helping strays left and right?" She asked with a raised eyebrow. "You also set up places to help and train those humans with Fullbringer and the Bouts, is it also because of that reasoning?"
Yoh just shrugged, his proposals worked after all and Soul Society now was much more effective in dealing with Hollows since there were more people that could at least identify where the hollows are and help in case of emergency.
Needless to say that both those with Fullbringer, the Bouts, and the Quincy were certainly glad to not be hunted down and to be able to actually help properly without needing to act as if they are vigilantes.
Yoh and Soi Fon then talked some more about news all around including a discussion about the latest challenge from Kempachi towards Yoh and more. Honestly speaking Yoh wanted to accept the invite but considering that they were forbidden by law of fighting one another after the May Incident where they may or may not have destroyed 35% of the Gotei 13 and sent 8 of the lieutenants and 2 captains for the infirmary as just aftermath of the fight may have something to do with that law. Not that Kempachi cared as he still sent challenge letters which You had to ignore because of the law.
Yoh then left the next day, his objective being karakura town to search for captain Ishin.
