CLARITY
Chapter 1: Both Of Us

Jen got two plates out of the cabinet and prepared a plate for herself and Kenny. For dinner, she made Shoyu ramen the simplest way possible. She cooked the packaged ramen noodles, added the shoyu broth, and added the vegetables. She wanted Japanese food, but she didn't want to order takeout, and she didn't want to actually sit a restaurant because she knew Kenny needed to rest his injured right labrum and hand. So, she decided to fix the ramen to solve all the problems.

She grabbed two forks, setting them on the plates. She grabbed a diet pepsi out of the fridge along with Kenny's plate and brought it to him. "Dinner is served. Sorry, it's nothing fancy."

"Don't be sorry. I appreciate that you cooked dinner for us." He accepted the plate with his left hand. Jen laid his diet pepsi on the coffee table.

Jen returned to the kitchen, grabbed a diet pepsi for herself and her plate, and joined Kenny on the couch. She laid her diet pepsi besides his on the coffee table. After finally getting a taste of the ramen, she was pleased with how it tasted. "Considering the fact that I basically threw all of this together, it turned out pretty good."

"Yes, it did."

"I'm glad it turned out okay for you."

They ate the rest of their dinner in an companionable silence and watched whatever was on the television. Whenever they finished their dinner, Jen collected their plates and brought them to the kitchen so she could wash them. Since they didn't use that many dishes today, she would just handwash the dishes that were used. Kenny joined her in the kitchen, his back leaned against the counter beside Jen as she was starting up the dishwater in the sink.

"I can help you," Kenny offered.

"Thanks for the offer, but I would rather you rest since you haven't had the time to because we were on the go majority of last week."

"Jen, I've been wrestling for however long with a torn labrum; I think I can help with the dishes."

"I didn't realize the severity of your injury," Jen argued. "If you want to wrestle that's fine, but since we're at home, I would like for you to rest."

"Fine." The AEW tag team champion didn't want to press the issue. "If you need help with anything, my offer still stands."

"You know what you can do for me?"

"What do you need?"

"You can continue to stand there because I'm enjoying you standing near me."

"I think I can do that," Kenny laughed.

Jen washed and rinsed the last dish and stuck in it the drainer. "All done."

Kitty Omega came into the kitchen meowing. He was rubbing against Kenny's leg. "I think he's letting me know it's dinnertime for him." Jen proceeded to go get the food, but Kenny stopped her in her tracks. "Jen, I've got this. You've done enough today."

"But-"

"-no ands, ifs, or buts. I've got this." He went to the container that had the cat's food and put the food in the cat's bowl.

Jen didn't bother arguing. Even though she wanted Kenny to rest his injuries, she knew he was prideful and too stubborn. "I'll let the dogs in and feed them." She went to the backdoor and called out for Kiki and Penny, letting them know that it was dinnertime for them. They ran inside, their tails wagging. She went to their food containers and put food in their dog bowls. Once she got the pets situated, she observed the animals and laughed. The cat was purring while he was eating and the dogs were inhaling their food, acting as if they hadn't ate all day. She went to the freezer, getting out two ice packs. "We need to ice your shoulder and hand." Kenny approached her and stood in front of her.

Jen put the first ice pack on his shoulder, wrapping duct tape over it. Kenny shivered. "Shit...that's cold."

"I'm sorry." She grabbed the second ice pack and now stood in front him. She gingerly grabbed his hand and he cringed. "I'm so sorry." She placed the ice pack on his hand, wrapping duct tape over it. "I'm so so sorry."

"It's not your fault I'm injured. You're helping and I appreciate it."

"I give you all the props in the world for wrestling even though you're injured. Like I told you back in the motel room in Chicago: 'you're a badass motherfucker'."

"I remember," Kenny chuckled. "How could I ever forget that endearing compliment?"

"I figured you'd remember," Jen giggled.

"It was the sweetest thing you've ever said to me."

"Seriously?"

"Seriously," Kenny repeated. Jen started feeling a tingling in her right leg. She couldn't maintain her balance, so she leaned against the counter. Kenny looked at her with concern. "Are you alright?"

"I feel this tingling in my right leg. You know how it feels whenever your foot falls asleep?" Kenny nodded. "It kind of resembles that feeling." The tingling subsided. She stood straight up.

"Are you alright?" Kenny repeated.

"I'm good now."

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah."

"Positive?"

"I'm sure that I'm positive and I'm positive that I'm sure."

"That sounds reassuring to me."

"Babe, I greatly appreciate your concern, but you're the injured one. I'll be alright."

The Best Bout Machine furrowed his eyebrows. "Just because I'm injured doesn't mean that I'm not going to be concerned for you. Me being injured doesn't make me decrepit or emotionally challenged."

"I'm sorry."

"No need to apologize." He motioned his head for Jen to come to him. He held his left arm out wide and tucked her into his left side. "I know how much you want to do for others before yourself, but you need to understand that with us: it's an equal partnership. If you need anything, I'll be right here."

"You're too good to me."

"It's a two way street, my flower. You're my person."

"You're my ride or die." Kenny bent his head down and Jen lifted her head up and their lips met for a quick kiss. They walked into the living room afterwards, plopping down on the couch. The pets joined them in the living room. The cat laid on top of the couch and the dogs each occupied an end of the couch, leaving no choice but for Kenny and Jen to be squished together in the middle, which neither of them minded.
