The Seven Knightly Virtues

Prologue

[~][~]

Beacon Academy

What was once the greatest huntsmen academy is now in ruins. The largest Grimm invasion, dwarfing the breach, found its way to the academy and reduced it to its current state. Despite the efforts of the students and faculty, they couldn't stop it from falling. It was made even worse by the arrival of the Wyvern, a Grimm that can spawn more Grimm wherever it flies, whilst drawing in more existing Grimm. It was then that they began to evacuate the school.

However, the Wyvern was suddenly slain. At the same time, several of their students were missing. What's more, Professor Ozpin is missing. No matter where they looked, they couldn't find them. It was there that they got to work on rebuilding the school along with the city.

Then the Huntsmen got a tip that there is a White Fang encampment in the Forever Fall forest. Glynda Goodwitch was the only huntress available at the moment. It had been a few days since then, but she could still feel that the fall happened yesterday. Her fellow professors Port and Oobleck told her to take a break from repairing the city.

"Hey! You there!"

The teacher turned to see an old man in gray armor. He had a long gray beard and mustache. His weary eyes watched them carefully as they walked towards him. In his left arm, he carried a spear.

"You the huntress they sent?"

"Yes," Glynda nodded. "You called in a tip about a White Fang encampment?"

The old man nodded. "Right this way."

"To think that the White Fang was here all this time," Glynda shuddered as she followed him. "They could've attacked our students."

"I take it you took a trip here?" The old man asked, not looking back.

"We came for some samples of red sap for Professor Peach," Her grip tightened around the Disciplinarian. "If I had known, I wouldn't have taken my students here. If I had taken them down here, they wouldn't have invaded Beacon."

"I'm afraid that you're a little late for that." The old man said. Glynda twitched an eyebrow at that. He must have sensed it because he corrected himself. "Forgive me, I only meant that you're a little too late to deliver what came to them."

The Beacon professor became confused at that. "What do you mean?"

The old man didn't answer. Then He stopped walking. "We're here."

Glynda looked and felt her eyes widened at the sight before them. Before them is the White Fang encampment. But instead of an entire encampment scrambling to fight them, she only saw littered bodies of the terrorists. Some of them are smashed into the floor while others are staining the tents with their blood. Most had slash marks on their backs or chest. Glynda had seen plenty of people die, but this was different. This was a massacre.

"Well…this is the White Fang encampment," The old man said with a grunt. "What's left of them at least."

"What happened here?" Glynda spoke out quietly. "Was it the Grimm?"

"What happened?" The old man repeated her first question. "Wish it was the Grimm. They were all mercilessly butchered. In the blink of an eye at that. By just seven people."

Several days ago, …

"So where should we go first?" Yang asked boisterously.

"I was hoping to go to the weapons shop!" Ruby said excitedly. "I heard they got a new sniper rifle guaranteed to pierce a Goliaths hide!"

"We went there last week!" Weiss said. "Let's go somewhere different."

"Aww…" Ruby pouted.

"We can always visit Tuksons," Blake said. "I heard that somebody has taken over."

"You just want to get more smut books," Weiss said. "Besides, how do we call visiting a bookstore 'spending the last weekend before the festival'?"

"She has a point there," Jaune said as he and his team walked alongside Team RWBY. Today was the first day of the weekend before the festival. That means they have plenty of time to do whatever they pleased before they have to fight. They decided to go to town and go all out.

"It's a shame Pyrrha couldn't come," Nora said sadly.

"The nurse said that she'll be alright," Ren assured her. "It's nothing serious. The fever will be gone before the festival starts."

Pyrrha came down with a fever, so she couldn't come with them. They wanted to stay, but she told them to not let her stop them from having a good time. Besides, she didn't want them to catch the same flu before the big day.

"Let's make sure we get her something," Nora insisted. "That way, she'll know we didn't forget about her."

"But what should we do?" Ruby asked.

"Pardon me, children."

The huntsmen-and-huntresses in training turned their attention to the direction. A man stood before them wearing a red and gold uniform. On his head is a red cap with a flattened top. Behind him is a building that resembles a classic cinema.

"May I interest you in the theater?" He asked.

"A movie?" Ruby asked. She turned to the others. "How does a movie sound?"

"Please," Weiss scoffed. "I'm sure that we've got plenty of movies on our scrolls. What makes this any different?"

"It's made with the latest in hard-light technology," The manager said. "Instead of barriers and all that, it's precise and efficient. So efficient that it will look real to the eye. I guarantee you will not regret seeing this!"

"Really?" Jaune asked with genuine interest. "Like 3D without the screens?"

"Yes," The manager nodded eagerly. "Except that you won't need to wear 3D glasses. Also, it's guaranteed to be safe."

"Hold on," Weiss stepped in with a searching gaze. "How do we know you aren't trying to stiff us?"

Ruby gasped at her. "Weiss, how could you?"

"I'm just being cautious about how we spend our money!"

"It's alright," The manager said. "I've got a preview prepared to clear up any doubts. If you could just follow me inside."

He gestured to the door. The students looked at each other before entering, Weiss following reluctantly. They stood in the lobby of the theater. On the other side is a concession stand.

"Now," The manager got their attention. "I will demonstrate the preview. Anyone a fan of 'Ninjas of Love'?"

"Blake is," Yang pointed to Blake, who glared at her. "She's a huge fan of the series."

Then Yang frowned.

"Also, keep in mind that one of us is…you know…"

She not so subtly jerked her thumb at Ruby. The manager nodded in understanding.

"Right. For our youngest viewers' discretion, I will show a scene in which the protagonist confronts an enemy from a rival ninja clan.

With a snap of his fingers, the lobby went dark. Then, before their eyes, the cyan light flooded the room, but it didn't blind them. Then, shapes began to form out of the ground. The lobby became a garden with a. cherry blossom tree. In the distance is a Mistralian style castle. Then, two cyan forms solidified into two men wearing ninja garb. They both took a bow and drew their katanas. With a shout, they engaged each other in combat.

"As you can see," The manager said to their gobsmacked expressions. "Not only can we bring the characters to the third dimension, but we can also simulate an artificial environment for the setting."

"This is intense," Ruby said with glee. The good ninja dodged a sword wave attack that blew past them. "It feels so real."

"Thank you," The manager said. "We take pride in making our audience feel as if they are there at the moment. Though I should point out that it is not real. For example, if in a scene it rains, you will feel it but not get wet."

"I understand," Weiss said, transfixed on the scene before her. The Bad Ninja had gained the upper hand and has the Good Ninja pinned to the ground. He brought his blade up and prepared to strike the final blow. Then, everything stopped.

"I think that will be enough," The manager said as the lobby returned to normal.

"Aww, but it was getting good," Ruby pouted.

"I did say it was a preview," The manager said. "Also, I doubt that I've spoiled enough of the movie."

"He's right there," Blake said. She was stealthily setting a reminder on her scroll to get the latest Ninjas of Love movie.

"Anyway, what's the verdict?"

The students turned to each other. It was Yang that spoke up. "So what movies are available?"

"I have a very specific style of showing my movies," The manager said. "For example, from what I can tell, you seven must be students of Beacon Academy."

"We are."

"Well I have a specific movie in mind for all of you," The manager said as he walked to the ticket stand. "One that may help you in your journey as a huntsman or huntress."

"What movie are you going to show us?" Ruby asked curiously.

"The Seven Deadly Sins."

"The Seven Deadly Sins?" Ruby asked in confusion.

"It's several of the worse immoralities that can be committed," Blake explained to her. "Like the worst behaviors that can be committed by humanity and faunus. They are pride, greed, envy, wrath, lust, gluttony, and sloth."

"Does that mean that Weiss is a sinner?" Yang asked in a joking tone. "I mean, she's had plenty of pride back at the start of the semester."

"Hey!" Weiss protested. "If you want to talk about sins, how about the fact that you get mad every time that you lose a strand of your hair!"

"That is different!"

"That is still sinning wrath!"

As Weiss and Yang argued about their sins, Blake begins thinking about hers. She glanced at the poster of Ninja's of Love and whipped her head around. Could her sin be lust?

"I know one who would fit gluttony," Ren whispered to Jaune, pointing to Nora. The latter is drooling at the popcorn.

"Please be silent!" The manager bellowed. The huntsmen-and-huntresses in training jumped at the decibels of his voice. The manager coughed into his hand and recomposed himself. "My apologies for shouting. One of my rules is noise at a minimum volume in the theater. If no one can follow that, I don't want them inside."

"Our apologies," Weiss said. "But just to be clear, this movie wouldn't have anything…" She briefly glanced at Ruby. "…inappropriate, will it?"

"I would never show my customers something vulgar," The manager said assuredly. "The Seven Deadly Sins refers to several characters in the movie. In a world that is similar to ours. But I will say no more. Would you like to see the movie or not?"

Everyone looked at each other. They had to admit, the way he used the hard-light technology was wonderful. Plus, they wanted to see a movie. Weiss walked up to the manager and pulled out a card.

"How much?"

"Five liens per customer."

"That much?" Weiss asked in surprise.

"Everyone deserves to see my movies," The manager replied with a smile. "I don't do this for profit. Would you like to help yourselves to the concession stand?"

"Please," Weiss said. After she paid for their tickets, they went to the concession stand to get popcorn, a few candies, and drinks. Then they made their way to the movie room and took their seats.

"Fair warning," The manager called in. "Please don't leave your seats until the movie is done. That includes going to the restrooms. So, I advise that you drink your drinks slowly."

"This popcorn is good," Nora said. "Thanks for getting these Weiss."

"It's my pleasure," Weiss said with a smile.

"We'd better bring Pyrrha here next time."

"Shh…the movie is starting…."

The theater had gone dark. In front of them, space came to life as the movie began to start. The scene opened up in gold light. On one side is humanoid creatures. On the other are monstrous-looking creatures. They appeared to be in some sort of battle.

"This is a tale of ancient times. An era before the human and non-human worlds are forever divided."

"Non-human worlds?" Blake asked with a frown.

"I'm sure that he's referring to something else," Yang whispered. "Plus, there's a faunus on the left side."

"Then what are those guys on the other side?" Nora asked. "Monsters?"

"Most likely," Ren said. "The manager said Holy Knights, correct? We heard stories of knights fighting monsters."

Next, they saw a crest in an aquamarine background. It's a red shield with white outlines. On it is a sword with a sickle and staff upside down with a crown at the tip of the shield. At the sides are blue-winged horsed facing away from each other.

"When the holy knights defended the realm, wielding their magical powers, they were feared and highly respected."

"Magical Powers?" Jaune asked. "As in magic?"

"They must be like Huntsmen," Ruby said. "Magic must be what sed to be called semblances back then. I bet they're cool."

They stared at the symbol before it went up in flames. Then symbols appeared and disappeared into them. A dragon, a serpent, a fox, a bear, a goat, a lion, and a boar.

"But among them, a group emerged that betrayed the kingdom, and became mortal enemies to all holy knights."

The flames disappeared to show seven figures standing on a grassy cliff with the sun shining through the clouds. They are encased in armor and wielded weapons. Two of them stood bigger than the others, the tallest holding a hammer. One of them was floating in the air with an orb hovering over a hand. One wielded a giant ax. One held four sectioned staff. One is fat and held a spear. The last one is small and had a sword on its back.

"They were known throughout the land as The Seven Deadly Sins."

"So those are the Seven Deadly Sins," Weiss said. "They must be the villains of this film."

"Wouldn't they be the protagonists?" Ruby asked. "I mean, why make the movie named after them if they are the antagonists."

"Who cares," Weiss hissed. "Keep silent so we don't get kicked out."

Then, the sun grew bright.

"I wish I brought my sunglasses," Yang whispered. "Because the light seems to be getting bright here."

"Wait," Blake narrowed her eyes. "Isn't that light getting brighter? Like, getting brighter."

Indeed, the light is getting brighter. So bright that it blocked the images of the Seven Deadly Sins and spread across the theater. The viewers felt their hearts being gripped by terror.

"Um, is this part of the movie?" Ruby asked.

They didn't have time to scream as the flash engulfed them. When the flash faded, the seven watchers are gone. Despite nobody watching, the film continued.

From that moment, several new legends are born.

This is a tale from ancient times, from the era before the human and non-human worlds are forever divided.

When the holy knights defended the realm, wielding their magical powers, they were feared and highly respected.

Among them, another group emerged, rivaling that of the Sins. Like them, they became mortal enemies to all Holy Knights.

They are known throughout the land as the Seven Knightly Virtues.

Another Fic has emerged, and the prologue is complete.

I've been thinking about new fics to write when I realized something. I was shining the spotlight on Team RWBY while JNR deserves it also for their role in the stories that we write. We need to stop the bashing. That is what gave me the idea for this fic (that and they are declared criminals by Ironwood, I hope that it's limited to only Atlas). Seven Sins and Seven Virtues think about it.

Let me know what you think.

Ciao!
