A girl of about fifteen sat across from a dark-haired man with a recording device. "Please state your name?" he asked her disinterestedly. The girl got the impression that he hadn't wanted to be here conducting interviews.
"My name is Kita Yuuki (Last, First)," she stated for the man brushing a few of the yellow highlights back into her purple hair that was tied back into a twisted braid crown with overflowing curls against her back. She had spent an hour doing her hair this morning.
"Please tell me about yourself?" he asked not looking at her.
"Well let's see..." Yuuki started thinking about information that might be useful, "Well how about I start from the very beginning? I was told very young the truth of our world. I might never manifest a quirk due to a foot x-ray that showed I hadn't 'evolved' like the other 80 percent of the world's population. But my mother reminded me; I didn't need a quirk to be a dancer like her, who is Kita, Natsumi better known by her nickname and maiden name Swan. Because her quirk was perfect for walking on water or in her case dancing. Little did the doctors' know I did actually have a quirk, which is the same as my father's quirk; I can see through walls, clothing(if I wasn't careful) and any other solid matter. I never told my mother since I could tell she was hopeful that I might get hers. My father suspected I might have his quirk because he saw how my eyes were always downwards or looking only in the eye of people. He taught me how to control it rather quickly. Mostly how to turn it off and on by my will. Only the government knew about my quirk since my dad... Oh, I forgot to list his name... He is Kita, Masaru. He updated my forms about the same time they discovered they had mixed up my foot x-ray with another kid's unfortunate reality."
"Wait you have two quirks?" the man asked interrupting Yuuki before she could continue. She simply nodded before starting again. "But I threw myself into learning how to dance ballet at four, but a few years later, my eyes quickly turn toward ice skating which I turned out to be a natural at. Most people thought it was because of my mother's quirk I think otherwise. I think I took to the ice more because I could close my eyes and forget the crowd. I have stage fright, not because I couldn't perform in front of others, but because my eyes would only see people in their underwear when I was nervous. Which can be rather scary for a little girl," she heard chuckling from the man which made her blush slightly.
"I was eight when I entered into my first ice competition and didn't stop until a year ago when my second quirk manifested itself during the worldwide competition." He raised a hand stopping her, "Can you tell me about that day please?"
"Well, I've been over it multiple times in my mind. I usually play the routine while I'm skating, but I apparently thought too far ahead and when I went for the most important jump of my routine. I disappeared with the lift-off and reappeared as I landing beautifully. The problem was even though I did a triple axle no one could see the rotation to ensure I had, in fact, did it. So I was disqualified since quirks aren't allowed in competitive settings without strict restrictions." She sighed remembering hearing the news. He seemed more interested in her story though he seemed to regret asking her about her background now.
"I, however, made headlines for manifest a quirk so late since it wasn't public knowledge I had a quirk before. I was forced to give up the career I had worked my whole young life to consider another profession. But my alternated ideas were turned down by my parents for being too dangerous which was being a police officer or a firefighter. My mother tried to get me back into ballet again, but I wasn't interested in something that could easily make my quirk act up if I wasn't careful. I wasn't sure why I didn't realize I was a teleporter before, but it might have been it wasn't strong enough before that moment or maybe just never triggered it before that moment when it mattered most to be seen." She stretched as the man looked over his notes. "What made you decide to apply for UA if your parents are against a dangerous profession?"
"Because with my quirks I could save people instead of using it for my own self-interest. My parents made their choices to be a dancer and a security guard; I may not have the flashiest quirks, but I do have the means to put myself in harm's way for the better good of others. Why hide what makes me special now that I know of my abilities?" With those words, her interview for UA ended hoping that it would be enough to pass the entrance exam. "Thank you for your time, Mr. Aizawa," she added with a bow.
It's been a year since her public debut as a teleporter and Yuuki had decided to apply for UA's hero course as a rollerblading hero, but was aiming for general studies at the very last resort. Her father found someone who could make roller blades with wheels so thin that it felt like ice skating. After modifying the design a little, they could switch from ice skates to roller blades to sneakers that she could wear all the times. They were electric blue with purple laces with snowflakes on the sides.
Yuuki's appearance had changed since her teleporting manifested. Before she had looked rather plain with onyx hair that only went past the shoulders which was her father's hair color, but her eyes were different from either of her parents and anyone else she'd ever met. They were a pale yellow with a purple outline when she used her teleporting quirk the purple took over while her eye quirk the yellow took over more. Her hair had changed to purple with yellow highlights a reverse of her eyes. When it first happen Yuuki's middle school didn't believe her when she examined that it had just changed during the night. They tried punishing her until she washed out the dye. Finally, they stopped caring about it, more accurate they had tried dozens of times to undo the strange colors but failed.
It was the day of the exam and Yuuki was ready to show what she could do. Her mother had set her up the recommendations needed for the hero recommendation exams though she never found out how her mother had those connections. Feeling confident with the written exam and just leaving her interview with the bored looking man with black hair. The practical exam was the true test about whether she might make it.
"...Number 47. If I called your numbers you will be taking your practical exam now..." called Present Mic. Yuuki stood up from her seat with five other middle schoolers, two other girls and three boys. They were led to an obstacle course where the last set of six students were clearing out. Yuuki passed a boy with half red hair and half white though he looked familiar from the blue eye with a burn around his eye that she saw, but shrugged it off. 'Must be my imagination,' she thought as she stretched for the few minutes before they were told to start. Yuuki hadn't been allowed to use her skate sneakers, but what did that matter. She could see her ways through the course and teleport if needed. This kept Yuuki close to the two front-runners (A parrot quirk guy and a girl with a strange bubble quick) without using her teleporting quirk until the last minute. She jumped and disappeared right in front of them which surprised them since they hadn't noticed her during the race. She knew she could have used it earlier, but it was more fun this way.
"Number 47... Kita, Yuuki... your time was exactly the old record..." Present Mic told her. The words 'old record' meant someone else had broken it today. Yuuki sighed pretty sure that she didn't make the cut, "Excuse me... Are students allowed to take the main exam if they don't make it?" she asked hoping she could get into UA somehow though her application did apply for multiple courses. Present Mic raised an eyebrow, "If you don't get a passing score students are welcome to come during the main examination..." With that, he walked away letting her head home.
About a month later her scores finally came in the mail. But her disappointment soon became apparent as the fifth recommendation for the hero course. Meaning she was on standby for the recommendation, but was accepted to attend UA. "So I am going to UA, but I might not be going in the hero course?" she asked herself confused. At the bottom of the letter told her she would be emailed further information. She however still was filling out forms for UA since the general studies course was an option. She knew it didn't happen very often that general studies could be put into the hero course, but it did happen. She, however, wasn't going to accept that she got only fifth when the first four students get the recommendation for the hero course. She was ready to go take the normal admissions exam with maybe a few other schools that had a decent hero course before she would settle. On the day of the exam, the email came in.
'Welcome to UA's hero course you've been recommended to start in Class 1B at the start of term. Please fill out forms for your hero costume and equipment request before the first day of term.'
Yuuki couldn't believe her eyes as she read that despite being in fifth for the recommendation she was able to be still admitted which means someone else must have refused the recommendation. It was a bittersweet thought that she was accepted, but purely because someone else refused the offer.
Her father knocked on the door of her bedroom, "You're going to be late if you don't get a move on... Wait did you get in?" She shook her head at his quirk glad she learned to get dressed fast due to their shared abilities. The door opened to a hug from her father, "This is great news... I wish your mother could hear the news too, but you can video chat with her..." Her mother was traveling with her dance company in Berlin right now. So she was 8 hours behind them which made telling her good news hard. "I'll just send her an email update..." she smiled up at her father. Her father couldn't help tell her enough how proud he was of her, but worried about his little girl.
(Hoped you enjoyed this I wrote this awhile ago, but wasn't sure if I would write more for this first chapter or not. I'll write more soon. Have a great day)
