A/N: Hey there and welcome to my first attempt at something like this. This will be an AU set 20 years later than the actual canon. Gonna take some liberties with certain things but I will try and keep things as in character as possible but like I said, I'm new to this. Without further ado lets get to this (I literally own nothing, just playing in a wonderful sandbox here.)
"Wake up boy, I want Dudley's breakfast done before he wakes up and I swear if you burn the bacon again, you'll damn well wish you were dead!"
A 9-year-old boy named Harry Potter awoke to this and got up as though it was his every day wake up call, which suffice it to say, was more accurate than any normal person would think. The boy opened his cupboard door and shuffled out, trying not to trip on his much too large pants.
The boy grabbed his usual step stool and lifted the pan his aunt would occasionally swing at him if she believed him to be acting particularly abnormal and put it on the stove's burner and turned it on, as though it were normal for the 9-year-old nephew to be the main cook in the house.
Now the Dursley's always considered themselves very much normal with absolutely nothing abnormal about them, at least, this is what they preached to themselves as though it were a mantra keeping them from the brinks of insanity. Some neighbors were curious as to why they would only ever see one child mowing the yard (even though it could be considered odd for any child that young to be mowing, most waited until their kids were teenagers to add that responsibility) and yet no one asked questions because it was easier than involving themselves more than they had to with this rather suffocating family.
See, many of the neighbors found the Dursley's rather off putting, what with their constant coddling of their son Dudley. Why this year the child was given 36 presents! The young Potter boy just thought about how funny the hypocrisy of it all was while cooking the morning bacon.
"Happy Birthday Duddykins!" squealed the horse-necked Petunia, Harry's maternal aunt.
"Happy Birthday my big strong boy, just like your father!" gushed the whale of a man Vernon. "BOY! Is the damn breakfast ready yet?"
"Yes, Uncle Vernon." Came the quick and quiet reply from Harry, eyes downcast. He then quickly set the table for three and brought out the food for the Dursley family.
Suddenly the phone started ringing, "Who the bloody hell would call during breakfast" came the angry call of Vernon, "Petunia get the phone."
After a rather short call Petunia got rather agitated and once the call was over hung the phone up rather violently "Mrs. Figgs called. She came down with the flu."
"Well can't she just keep the freak in another room?" Vernon asked turning a little red.
"She said she didn't want to risk him getting sick so she's refusing" Petunia responded in annoyance.
"Well what the hell are we going to do with him? I am not paying good money for him to join us and Dudley at the amusement park, it simply won't do" Vernon responded getting more and more red with every passing second. "And I sure as hell won't leave him in my car to do who knows what to it."
"Could I go to the library? I would stay there, and you wouldn't have to pay. It's just a couple blocks away." Harry said taking a chance, hoping he wouldn't take a beating for speaking out of turn.
"It would keep him away from the house and our day, truthfully not a terrible idea." Petunia said thoughtfully.
"Very well, boy. You go to the library once you clean breakfast up, straight there and then come back here when the library closes. Any funny business and I will make your life a living help freak."
"Yes, Uncle Vernon." Came the small reply, trying to hide just how excited the boy was. He always did love reading, especially fantasy book because the hero always seemed to start as a nobody who was thrust into a new world where they would make new friends and have an adventure. Both things Harry desperately wanted in his life. So once the Dursleys had finished their meal and Harry had finished the toast they allowed him to eat he did the dishes as fast as he could. Once done with the dishes the Dursley's had him clean up the wrapping paper from Dudley's 36 presents before leaving.
The moment Harry was a block away from the Dursleys he couldn't hold in his excitement any longer and started running to the library still shocked by his luck. Little did the boy know, he was about to hit the luck mother of all jackpots. See Harry was no ordinary boy, for his father and mother were of the wizarding world. His mother born to 'normal' people became a transplant in the wizarding world when she got a letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. His father a 'Pure-blood' wizard who for a very short while was the Lord of House Potter before his untimely demise. These two had many friends in the wizarding world, perhaps non greater than Sirius Black, Harry's godfather.
Now while Harry didn't know any of this his godfather knew of him, hell, he knew of the Dursley's and if not for those damnable wards put around their house he would know their address but the Fidelius charm was an annoying thing when trying to find someone it is being used on, no matter how solid your legal case is for guardianship of a certain black haired wizarding child.
See, Sirius Black had been spending the last almost 10 years not only raising his own son but also searching for the missing son of his brother in all but blood. Sirius Black had been accused of betraying the Potters trust as secret keeper on the fateful Halloween night in which their house was attacked by the darkest wizard since Grindelwald.
While Sirius had been taken immediately to Azkaban his wife Adelina Black knew that Sirius wasn't the secret keeper and petitioned the head of the DMLE every day to get her husband the trial he deserved, not only as a member of the magical community but also as an heir of an ancient and noble house. After nearly three months of constant badgering Sirius had been brought before the Wizengamot and after a rather embarrassing lack of substantial evidence it was soon deemed that Sirius would not be returning to Azkaban, instead he would be heading home to his wife and young son.
Sirius was well aware of his claim to Harry Potter now that he was no longer in Azkaban and planned to speak with Alice and Frank Longbottom, assuming they had taken Harry as per the will of James and Lily. Adelina had the misfortune of telling Sirius that not only were they tortured into insanity, but his friend Remus Lupin was gone with the wind. It seemed the grief had gotten to him, still Sirius was sad to hear Remus hadn't been there for his own godson during his time in Azkaban. Sirius' son only had one godparent named and that had been Remus.
Now Sirius' next goal was to find his godson. It nearly took a year to even get the meeting with Dumbledore that he had requested after his trial.
"Albus, thank you for finally meeting with me." Sirius said with a charming smile, but his eyes held no warmth.
"Of course, my boy I'm glad things have gone so well for you. Please take a seat. How is your son?" Albus said with his trademark twinkle in the eye.
"Oh yes, Jericho is certainly keeping us on our toes, especially with his constant adventures but we've managed. And Lyla can is certainly a handful with her waking us up but it's certainly easier this time around. I actually came to ask about my godson Albus."
At this the twinkle in his eye seemed to dull slightly. "Sirius, I assure you Harry is being taken care of by those who care for him."
"Albus, I've used the Black connections to see if he's gone to anyone in our world but no one knows where he is which means he's in the muggle world, and I hope for your sake it's not his aunt and uncle Albus."
"When Lily sacrificed herself for Harry, she gave him protections that he could only have while living with family. It is for the greater good." Dumbledore said with a weary resign to his voice.
"Albus, I was with James and Lily when they made their wills…. They said, and I quote 'in the event of neither one of us surviving under no circumstance should our son, Harry James Potter, be sent to live with my sister, Petunia Dursley, and her husband, Vernon Dursley." Sirius said with anger.
"Sirius, what I am doing, I am doing for Harry's good. Trust me on this."
"I'm sorry but I can't. Harry is my godson and he can grow up in a loving family with us, Petunia hates magic and I'm sure her husband does as well, given his antics at James and Lilies wedding."
"Sirius, I am sorry, but Harry will be staying with his aunt and uncle until he attends Hogwarts."
"Very well, I see there is no point in continuing down this avenue given your unwillingness to see another perspective I will waste no more of your precious time Albus. It was good to see you regardless." He said while getting up from his seat and walking to the Floo, ready to head home.
"Yes, I do look forward to seeing you again, I had heard old Arcturus might be giving you the wizengamot seat soon as a proxy to prepare you for lordship."
"Well if I see you soon that will likely be the case." And with that he flooed to Grimmauld Place.
As soon as he stepped out of the fireplace Sirius snarled.
"I take it he wasn't very forthcoming, was he?" Remus asked his friend who had returned to the wizarding world about a month after Sirius had been declared innocent.
"No, he alluded to Prongslet being with his muggle relatives. Merlin, we need to find him, those muggles hate magic more than my dear mother hated me, may she burn in hell." Sirius said with a solemn head bow, but mischief was playing at the corners of his mouth. He then lifted his head "I can't remember where they lived, I know Prongs had mentioned it many times I just can't rememb- That mother fuc-"
"Sirius! I swear to everything in this world if you finish that word with your very impressionable son sitting within hearing distance, I will hex your bits off!" Came the dangerous voice of Adelina.
"But hone-"
"Don't you 'but honey' me, your son is two and a half years old he will repeat anything you say, you need to control yourself."
"Dumbledore has Harry's aunt and uncle under the fidelius charm and the only thing I know for certain is a town, Surrey."
"Well, I suppose that explains the outburst, but I'm not gonna let you off that easy." She said with a mischievous grin.
"Yes dear." Sirius played along as Remus coughed and it suspiciously sounded like 'whipped'.
From that day on Sirius and Remus would scour Surrey in an attempt to find Harry whenever they could. Obviously, Remus spent much more time on the hunt for Harry, given his lack of job and family. After about three years of searching and being no closer than they were when they started Sirius got a letter from his grandfather saying he was going to give up his Lordship and asked Sirius to take over as head of the family.
This was asked of him for the simple reason that he was the last male of the family. Both his father and his brother had been killed in the service of that foolish Dark Lord. Sirius was even more glad his mother wasn't around to interfere and while he still had his disagreements with his grandfather things were much smoother between them.
One quick trip to Gringotts with Arcturus later and Sirius was now Lord Sirius Black of the Most Ancient and Noble House Black. With this title came the responsibilities of a wizengamot seat and managing the finances of the house which further took Sirius' time searching for Harry.
For another four years there was no change on the Harry front. In Sirius' home life there were a few changes over the years, mainly, the number of people in House Black. While Sirius was quick to invite Andromeda and her family back to the black family his wife gave birth to another child, another girl. Calypso Olivia Black, 2 year younger than Lyla.
Now Sirius decided to go to Surrey once again and hope to find his needle in a haystack and finally fortune favored him.
Sirius was walking by a library on his way to check a small neighborhood park and as he was passing a street sign that said 'Privat Drive' he saw a young boy running toward the library a look of pure bliss on his face. It seems the poor kid grew up in a rather impoverish family, even a block away he could see the boy's clothes were far too large for him.
As the boy got closer, he seemed… familiar in a way, his face reminded him of a long old memory but what was that memory? Could it be? As the boy got even closer his eyes could be seen and they were a startling green… just like Lily's. Did he just find his godson?
After shaking off the shock a minute or two after the boy ran up the steps and into the library Sirius pulled out his communication mirror and called up Remus.
"What is it Padfoot, you look like you've seen a ghost."
"I think I might have just seen two, Remus can you get to Surrey, I'm at the library by Privet Drive." As Remus' mind put the insinuation together, he jumped up and pulled out his cellphone found the address, let Sirius know he had the address then apparated nearby.
"Sirius are you sure it's him. Last year we had a similar incident and you were devastated.
"Moony, the kid was a spitting image of James and he had Lily's eyes. I'm sure it's him. He went in the library a couple minutes ago."
"Alright we'll approach him and talk with him and go from there, how's that?"
"Moony you didn't see what he was wearing… his clothes would have been large on me for Merlin's sake. I'm taking my place as his guardian and I don't give a damn if the entire DMLE has to come after me, I'm not letting him get away."
They entered the library together and went to the computers first, surely a young boy would love to play the computers, but they only found a couple muggle children there playing what appeared to be RuneScape.
After the computers turned up fruitless, they decided to check the children's fantasy section but that didn't bring up any results either. In a last ditch thought they went to the young adult section and sure enough, there was Harry Potter reading a fantasy book about magic and dragons.
"Excuse me young man, but are you Harry Potter?" Asked Sirius.
"Umm… Aunt Petunia said don't talk to strangers" said a slightly scared Harry.
"Well it's a good thing we're not strangers then, my name is Sirius, and this is Remus. We were friends of your parents."
"You knew my parents?" At this his eyes lit up "Can you tell me about them?"
"Of course, we can, what do you want to know?" Remus asked with a smile.
"Everything."
After well over an hour of telling Harry about his parents Harry sat there, taking everything in. "Hey Prongslet, I know you're living with your aunt and uncle, but your parents didn't want that. In their will they say that I should have you, do you want to come live with me and my family? I've got a son of my own who's your age who you could be friends with" Sirius said
"I… I'm a freak. Aunt Petunia said freaks like me don't deserve friends." Harry said dejectedly.
"Harry, you are not a freak. You are an amazing kid. We've missed out on so much of your life. If you come with us now you won't ever have to return to your Aunt and Uncle's, how's that for you?"
"I… I'd really like that." Harry said bashfully.
"Alright, before we go can you take this to your aunt and uncle's house and leave it for them? This is just a letter saying we'll be taking you off their hands. Once you are done with that come back here and we'll take you home." Said Remus.
10 minutes later Harry was back, having run the Dursley's and back as fast as he could.
"Alright Harry, just grab my arm and hold on, this will be kind of uncomfortable, but it will get us home quickly."
Harry nodded in understanding and then grabbed onto Sirius. Once he had grabbed on, he heard a 'crack' and it felt as though he were being pulled through a small tube. Just as soon as it started it stopped and Harry was suddenly standing in a house he'd never seen before.
"Honey, I'm hooomeeeeeee." Sirius called out.
A/N: Let me know what/where you want this to go, I have a general idea but I'd love some input, until next time
