Water... Earth... Fire... Air.. When Akari was a little girl, her mother used to tell her of the old days, a time of peace when the Avatar kept balance between the Water Tribes, Earth Kingdom, Fire Nation, and Air Nomads. But that all changed when the Fire Nation attacked. Only the Avatar mastered all four elements. Only he could stop the ruthless firebenders. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years have passed and the Fire Nation is nearing victory in the war. Two years ago, her and her brother Lelouch went to the Southern Water Tribes for trading supplies in the war. And their friends, Sokka and Katara's father, Hadoka, and all the men left for the war. Some people believe that the Avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads and that the cycle is broken, but the dragon siblings haven't lost hope. They still believe that somehow the Avatar will return to save the world.
Somewhere in the nearest Water Tribe, a teenage boy, Sokka, who has a shaven headed except for a pony tail, stands in the canoe. He looks down at the water, spear at the ready. The other occupant is a young girl. Both wear blue overcoats. The canoe drifts slowly as the boy concentrates on fishing. Beside the boat a fish swims close to the surface in front of the boy.
"It's not getting away from me this time. Watch and learn, Katara. This is how you catch a fish." Sokka said. Katara leans over the edge of the canoe to see a fish. Hesitantly, she removes her left glove. She takes a deep breather and with a look of trepidation begins to motion with her exposed hand. Suddenly, a globe of water containing the fish bursts out of the water.
"Sokka, look!" Katara exclaimed.
"Shhh. Katara, you're gonna scare it away. Mmmm... I can already smell it cookin'!" Sokka whispered.
"But Sokka! I caught one!" Katara said. She struggles with the blob of water and it floats closer to Sokka, who raises his spear to strike a fish. When he cocks his arm back he burst the bubble of water. The fish falls back into the sea and Sokka gets drenched.
"Hey!" Katara yelled.
"Ugh! Why is it that every time you play with magic water I get soaked?" Sokka said exasperated.
"It's not magic. It's waterbending, and it's-" Katara said before she was interrupted by her brother.
"Yeah, yeah, an ancient art unique to our culture, blah blah blah. Look, I'm just saying that if I had weird powers, I'd keep my weirdness to myself." Sokka said.
"You're calling me weird? I'm not the one who makes muscles at myself every time I see my reflection in the water." Katara said. Sokka, who is making a muscle and looking at his reflection in the water. He turns to Katara and gives her a look. They're then surprised by a large dragon with an otherworldly appearance. It has two eyes and six orange glowing spots running up the length of its horns. Parts of its body glow ethereal blue, making its skin appear crystalline and translucent. Its wings are frayed at the edge of the membrane and are grayish-blue in color, with a feminine figure. Then it laughed.
"AKARI!" Sokka yelled.
"Oh come on. You should've seen your face." Akari said, then transformed to a woman 16 years of age, with vermilion red hair, regular skin, and blue eyes. She was wearing clothes made out of direwolf fur.
"Where's Lelouch?" Katara said, and a large red dragon, it's scales are rigid, very resistant to damage unless tenderized, and red in color with some dark accents on many parts, such as the horns, feet, spikes, and wing edges. Its wing webbing and underside, however, is a tan color, many spikes run from its neck along its back to the tail tip. He then transformed into a 19 year old boy, with black hair and blue eyes. He was also wearing clothes made out of direwolf fur.
"I'm here. We just thought we'd go with you." Lelouch said. Suddenly the boat is bumped, they look up to see they have entered an ice packed area. They begin to work frantically to maneuver the canoe between the icebergs.
"Watch out! Go left! Go left!" Katara yelled. Each time they manage to avoid getting crushed between the colliding icebergs, but their safety margins decreases rapidly each time. Finally the canoe is crushed when three icebergs collide at once. Sokka, Katara, Akari, and Lelouch jump out in time onto one of the icebergs. They are now at the mercy of the currents.
"You call that left?" Katara said.
"You don't like my steering. Well, maybe you should have waterbended us out of the ice." Sokka said, sarcastically.
"Shut up, Sokka." The dragon siblings said, getting agitated.
"So it's my fault?" Katara asked.
"I knew I should have left you home. Leave it to a girl to screw things up." Sokka suggested, Katara, her anger was boiling over. She points at her brother.
"You are the most sexist, immature, nut brained... Ugh, I'm embarrassed to be related to you!" Katara yelled. Then the iceberg behind them begins to crack. And Akari, Lelouch, and Sokka noticed this.
"Ever since Mom died I've been doing all the work around camp while you've been off playing soldier!" Katara yelled.
"Uh... Katara?" Sokka said.
"I even wash all the clothes! Have you ever smelled your dirty socks? Let me tell you, NOT PLEASANT!" Katara screamed.
"Katara! Settle down!" Akari yelled.
"No, that's it. I'm done helping him. From now on, he's on his own!" As she finishes, the iceberg behind her splits open entirely. It disintegrates and the major pieces fall into the water, pushing their iceberg away. They hold on desperately until the iceberg settles.
"Okay, you've gone from weird to freakish, Katara." Sokka said.
"You mean I did that?" Katara asked.
"Yup. Congratulations." Sokka said. The four are leaning over the edge of the iceberg raft. Suddenly, the water just in front of them begins to glow an incandescent blue. They move backwards on their raft as another, lighter colored iceberg breaks the surface. It is unclear whether this is part of the one Katara broke up or not. As the new iceberg settles, Katara walks to edge of their iceberg raft to get a better look. Deep in the ice, the figure of a boy in a meditation pose is seen. He has blue arrows on his fists and on his bald head. Suddenly, his eyes and his arrow markings glow white.
"He's alive! We have to help." Katara said. She grabs Sokka's hockey stick type spear, pulls down her hood and turns to go to the boy.
"Katara! Get back here! We don't know what that thing is!" Sokka yelled. Katara ignores him and skips across a few little icebergs to arrive at the one in which the boy is trapped. Sokka, Akari and Lelouch follow. She begins to use the hockey stick to whack the ice. After a few big whacks, she cracks open the ice. It looks like air is released, as if the iceberg had a hollow chamber within it, but it is not entirely clear. The iceberg then cracks from top to bottom and explodes open. A huge shaft of white blue light shoots straight into the heavens. At an iron hulled battleship with a spiked prow cutting through the sea also nearby. It is apparently steam powered as it has a single smokestack. The foredeck is much longer than the afterdeck. The bridge appears to be several decks above the main deck. A young man on the foredeck dressed in red, also shaven-headed except for a pony-tail, staring intently at the shaft of light in front of the left side of his face is badly scarred around his left eye. This is Prince Zuko. The light from the light shaft dissipates.
"Finally. Uncle, do you realize what this means?" Zuko said. An old man seated cross legged at a low table, drinking tea and playing a game involving domino like objects. His name is Iroh
"I won't get to finish my game?" Iroh asked sarcastically.
"It means my search - it's about to come to an end." Zuko stated, turn to the light. Iroh groans, at the thought of it.
"That light came from an incredibly powerful source. It has to be him!" Zuko stated.
"Or it's just the celestial lights. We've been down this road before, Prince Zuko. I don't want you to get too excited over nothing. Please, sit. Why don't you enjoy a cup of calming jasmine tea?" Iroh said calmingly, then Zuko got even more angry.
"I don't need any calming tea! I need to capture the Avatar. Helmsman, head a course for the light!" Zuko yelled and ordered the helmsman. At the iceberg, Sokka shielding his sister from the blast that just dissipated. They look up to see residual blue light still swirling around the top of what is left of the iceberg. Suddenly, the boy appears, his eyes and arrow markings still aglow.
"Stop!" Sokka yelled, raising his spear at the boy. The boy stands up as the glow and residual energy fades. He seems to pass out and slides down the side of the ruined iceberg to Sokka and Katara, who lunges forward and catches him as he falls. Sokka pokes the boy in the head with the blunt end of his weapon.
"Stop it!" Katara and Akari yelled. They gently turn him over so that he is lying on his back. He begins to wake up. He slowly opens his eyes.
"I need to ask you something." The boy said.
"What?" Katara said.
"Please... come closer." The boy whispered.
"What is it?" Katara asked.
"Will you go penguin sledding with me?" The boy asked in an excited voice.
"Uh... sure. I guess." Katara said. The boy lifted himself to his feet as he starts to rub the back of his head, just by using the air. Sokka yelped when he saw it.
"What's going on here?" The boy asked.
"You tell us! How'd you get in the ice? And why aren't you frozen?" Sokka asked, poking the boy with his spear. But the boy batted the spear away.
"I'm not sure." The boy said.
"Those orange and yellow clothes... could he be an airbender?" Akari thought. The boy gasps as a low, animal like noise is heard from in the cracked iceberg and begins to frantically climb back up the ruined iceberg. He jumps over the lip of what is in fact now a crater and lands on a huge furry animal.
"Appa! Are you all right? Wake up, buddy." The boy said to the giant bison-like animal. He leans down and opens one of the beasts eyes. He closes it again. Aang hops down and tries to lift the animal's huge head, but without effect. Katara, Akari, Lelouch Sokka come around the corner and Sokka's mouths drop in shock as the see the monster, whose mouth opens and licks the boy waking him up.
"Haha! You're okay!" The boy said. He hugs Appa. Appa occupies most of the crater left by the explosion. He is a huge flying bison with six legs and horns like a steer. He gets up and shakes himself off a bit.
"What is that thing?" Sokaa asked.
"This is Appa, my flying bison." The boy said.
"Right. And this is Katara, my flying sister." Sokka replied sarcastically. Appa begins to sneeze. The boy ducks in time as Appa proceeds to sneeze all over Sokka. Sokka, covered in snot, tries to get rid of it by rolling around on the ice and snow.
"Don't worry. It'll wash out. So, do you guys live around here?" The boy said, but Sokka pointed his spear at him.
"Don't answer that! Did you see that crazy bolt of light? He was probably trying to signal the Fire Navy." Sokka said.
"Oh, yeah, I'm sure he's a spy for the Fire Navy. You can tell by that evil look in his eye." Katara said sarcastically, and the boy had a innocent look on his face.
"The paranoid one is my brother, Sokka, the vermilion hair is Akari, and the black hair is Lelouch. You never told us your name." Katara said.
"I'm A... aaaahhhh... ahhhhhh... aaah aaah aaah AAAAAAACHOOOO!" The boy sneezed, and goes a few feet in the air before he lands.
"I'm Aang." Aang said, as he sniffles and rubs his nose.
"You just sneezed... and flew ten feet in the air." Sokka said incredulously.
"Really? It felt higher that that." Aang said. And Akari gasped
"You're an airbender!" Katara said.
"Sure am." Aang said.
"Giant light beams... flying bison... airbenders... I think I've got Midnight Sun Madness. I'm going home to where stuff makes sense." Sokka said turning to see how desolate the area is.
"Well, if you guys are stuck Appa and I can give you a lift." Aang said, airbending himself onto Appa's head, then to the top of his back where rests an enormous saddle. Reigns are attached to both of Appa's great horns.
"We'd love a ride! Thanks!" Katara said then gets on Appa.
"Oh, no... I am not getting on that fluffy snot monster." Sokka disagreed.
"Are you hoping some other kind of monster will come along and give you a ride home? You know... before you freeze to death?" Katara said. Sokka starts to say something and gives up before he does, he then sighs. And then Katara and Sokka in the back part of the saddle. Katara looked excited. Sokka looked grumpy, arms folded across his chest.
"Aren't ya getting on?" Aang asked to dragon siblings.
"Well, Aang, we have our own forms of transportation." Lelouch said, then he and Akari, glowed in their perspective colors, blue and red, transformed into their dragon forms.
"NO WAY! You guys are dragons?" Aang asked.
"Yep, and we are part of an island with a huge mountain called The Throat of the World. The island is called Draconia." Akari said.
"Wow. Why did you come here to the south?" Aang asked.
"Draconia has to trade supplies for the water tribes here in the south." Lelouch said.
"Okay. First time flyers, hold on tight! Appa, yip yip!" Aang said. Aang shakes the reigns and Appa makes a low rumble. He flaps his huge beaver tail and then launches into the air. He spreads his legs wide, but then comes right back down into the water with a huge splash. He begins to swim them forward. While Akari and Lelouch fly above them, but keeping to Appa's pace.
"Come on, Appa. Yip yip." Aang said, shaking the reigns again.
"Wow. That was truly amazing." Sokka said sarcastically.
"Appa's just tired. A little rest and he'll be soaring through the sky. You'll see." Aang said, making a soaring through the sky motion with his hand, his eyes finally resting on Katara. He leaves them there, a smile on his face as he looks at her.
"Why are you smiling at me like that?" Katara asked.
"Oh... I was smiling?" Aang said, and Sokka groaned in disgust. Back to Prince Zuko's Fire Navy ship. Zuko, on the spotting deck off the bridge looking forward, is approached by Iroh. It is now night.
"I'm going to bed now." Iroh said, then making an exaggerated yawn.
"Yep. A man needs his rest. Prince Zuko, you need some sleep. Even if you're right and the Avatar is alive, you won't find him. Your father, grandfather, and great-grandfather all tried and failed." Iroh said.
"Because their honor didn't hinge on the Avatar's capture. Mine does. This coward's hundred years in hiding are over." Zuko said. Back with the main group, Aang lies back on top of Appa's head. Katara, in the saddle on Appa's back with her brother, crawls forward and looks down from the saddle at Aang, with the dragon siblings looking for the tribe above them.
"Hey." Katara said.
"Hey. Whatcha thinkin' about?" Aang asked.
"I guess I was wondering – your being an airbender and all – if you had any idea what happened to the Avatar." Katara asked. Aang's eyes widened.
"Uhh... no. I didn't know him... I mean, I knew people that knew him, but I didn't. Sorry." Aang said.
"Okay. Just curious. Goodnight." Katara said.
"Sleep tight." Aang said. Katara turns away, and Akari looks down at Aang, who also looks away, an expression of fear on his face. Akari sighs.
"What's wrong, Akari?" Aang asked.
"It's just that I miss my family, I even wonder how my parents, grandparents, uncles, and cousins are." Akari said sadly. Lelouch nuzzles her head.
"Don't worry sis, one day we'll return to them, remember the lullaby mom used to sing for us." Lelouch said.
"Can you sing it to me?" Aang asked.
"Just this once." Akari said. She then took a deep breath, with her chest began to glow.
Hush now, mo stóirín,
Close your eyes and sleep,
Waltzing the waves,
Diving in the deep,
Stars are shining bright,
The wind is on the rise,
Whispering words,
Of long lost lullabies,
Oh won't you come with me,
Where the moon is made of gold,
And in the morning sun,
We'll be sailing,
Oh won't you come with me,
Where the ocean meets the sky,
And as the clouds roll by,
We'll sing the song of the sea,
At Zuko's ship, Zuko heard the voice as he was on the deck, as the Southern Lights came along.
"Who would sing in such a beautiful voice." Zuko thought, as he listened to the voice.
I had a dream last night,
And heard the sweetest sound,
I saw a great white light,
And dancers in the round,
Castles in the sand,
Cradles in the trees,
Don't cry, I'll see you by and by,
Oh won't you come with me,
Where the moon is made of gold,
And in the morning sun,
We'll be sailing,
Oh won't you come with me,
Where the ocean meets the sky,
And as the clouds roll by,
We'll sing the song of the sea,
Rolling, Rolling, Rolling, Rolling,
Akari then began to do aerial flight dances, along with Lelouch, and Zuko only saw their shadows, and the blue fire of Akari's chest.
"Dragons? I thought my nation killed them all. Unless, they could be from Draconia." Zuko shook his head at the thought and listened to the song.
Oh won't you come with me,
Where the moon is made of gold,
And in the morning sun,
We'll be sailing free,
Oh won't you come with me,
Where the ocean meets the sky,
And as the clouds roll by,
We'll sing the song of the sea,
Grá go deo
By the time her song ended, Aang had been alseep, and Akari smiled.
"Good night, Aang." Akari said, as she nuzzled him.
By the time they got to the village, they had to explain what happened with them. As they went asleep, Akari thought about her family. But she was woken up by a familiar baby tarbosaurus, gray direwolf, baby allosaurus, and a baby tyrannosaurus rex. The tarbosaurus is green with amber eyes, and a spotted birthmark on his face. The baby allosaurus is mainly yellow and orange and has a blackish-blue neck. He has a white stripe over his eyes. He also has several spines protruding from his neck. He also has two blackish-blue, bony crest-like structures above his eyes. The T. rex has brown scales, a cream underbelly, and amber eyes. They nuzzled and cooed at her when she woke up.
"OK, OK, I'm up." Akari said getting up. The tarbosaurus is Speckles, her brother's foster son. The allosaurus is Aiden, her foster son. The T. rex is Laika, her foster daughter. And the direwolf is Sif, Lelouch's familiar. Lelouch rescued Speckles after his family was killed in a stampede caused by a Tyrannosaurus Rex named One Eye while One Eye personally killed Speckles' mother. Aiden was found by Akari after he was abandoned by his mother, because his jaw was broken by a Dinheirosaurus named Woodstock, and Akari healed his jaw back to a normal state. And she found Laika when her nest was abandoned after One-Eye killed Laika's parents. Laika hatched in front of the siblings, and imprinted on Akari, viewing her as her mother. Then she hears whimpering from Aang's tent, and saw he was having a nightmare.
"What's going on?" Katara said entering.
"I think Aang's having a nightmare." Akari said.
"Aang! Aang, wake up!" Katara said shaking Aang, then Aang woke up gasping.
"It's okay. We're in the village now. Come on, get ready. Everyone's waiting to meet you." Akari said. Aang gets up and puts on his shirt and hood. Katara and Akari looks at his airbender tattoos. Katara grabs Aang by the hand and drags him outside. He carries a staff with him. As Katara pulls him out, a small crowd has gathered to greet him. It is composed of women of various ages and children.
"Aang, this is the entire village. Entire village, Aang." Katara and Akari said. Aang bows to them in a friendly manner, but the people pull back from him anyway.
"Uh... why are they all looking at me like that? Did Appa sneeze on me?" Aang asked. An old woman came to the front, she was Kana, Katara and Sokka's grandmother.
"Well, no one has seen an airbender in a hundred years. We thought they were extinct until my granddaughter, grandson, and the dragon siblings found you." Kana said, shocking Aang.
"'Extinct'?" Aang asked, making Akari and Lelouch, who just woke up, confused.
"Aang, this is my grandmother." Katara said.
"Call me Gran Gran." Kana said. Then Sokka grabbed the staff Aang had.
"What is this, a weapon? You can't stab anything with this." Sokka said.
"It's not for stabbing. It's for airbending." Aang said as he creates a jet of air that sucks the staff back into his hand. Aang then opens the staff into a glider with red wings.
"Magic trick! Do it again!" A little girl said.
"Not magic, airbending. It lets me control the air currents around my glider and fly." Aang said.
"You know, last time I checked, humans can't fly." Sokka said.
"Check again!" Aang said, he then launches himself into the air with his glider. He soars through the air, doing loops as the villagers on the ground point to him in wonder. Aang looks down at Katara who smiles at him. He is so enthralled with her attention that slams right into Sokka's guard tower. He pulls his head out of the tower and falls to the ground with his glider.
"My watchtower." Sokka said worried.
"That was amazing." Katara and Akari say. They helps Aang back to his feet. He twirls his glider shut as Sokka examines the damaged tower behind him. After Aang closes the glider a huge bank of snow buries Sokka.
"Great. You're an airbender, Katara's a waterbender, and Akari and Lelouch are firebenders, together you can just waste time all day long." Sokka said
"You're a waterbender!" Aang said.
"Well... sort of. Not yet." Katara said.
"And I had much training with my family since I am an Elder Dragon." Akari said.
"You're an Elder Dragon?" Aang asked.
"Yep." Akari smiled. Then two chirps and a bark got her attention. She then saw Sif with Speckles, Laika and Aiden his back.
"Who are they?" Aang asked.
"Oh, the direwolf is Sif, he's my brother's familiar. The tarbosaurus is my foster nephew, Speckles, and the allosaurus is my adopted son, Aiden and the T. rex is my foster daughter, Laika." Akari explained.
"How did you find Speckles, Aiden and Laika?" Aang asked.
"Well it's a long story." Akari said.
"All right. No more playing. Come on, Katara, Akari, you have chores." Gran Gran said. Gran Gran leads Katara and Akari away.
"I told you! He's the real thing, Gran Gran! I finally found a bender to teach me." Katara said, excited.
"Katara, try not to put all your hopes in this boy." Gran Gran said.
"But he's special. I can tell. I sense he's filled with much wisdom." Katara said, they see Aang with his tongue frozen to his staff, children gathered around him.
"Sthee? Now my tongue ith thuck to my sthaff." Aang said. A child next to him grabs the staff and yanks, but Aang's tongue stays stuck. At Zuko's ship in the afternoon, Zuko is facing two Fire Navy seamen while Iroh sits nearby.
"Again." Iroh said, commencing the training. Zuko blasts fire from his hands at the guards, but misses. Then the guards attack Zuko with blasts of fire from their fists, but Zuko dodges. He back flips over the guards to land behind them. Iroh sighs and gets up
"No! Power in firebending comes from the breath. Not the muscles. The breath becomes energy in the body. The energy extends past your limbs and becomes fire." Iroh demonstrates, releasing a controlling plume of flame that bursts in front of Zuko, but does not hit him.
"Get it right this time." Iroh said.
"Enough. I've been drilling this sequence all day. Teach me the next set. I'm more than ready." Zuko said impatiently.
"No, you are impatient. You have yet to master your basics. Drill it again!" Iroh said, Zuko blasts one of the guards backwards with a gout of fire.
"The sages tell us that the Avatar is the last airbender. He must be over a hundred years old by now. He's had a century to master the four elements. I'll need more than basic firebending to defeat him. You WILL teach me the advanced set!" Zuko yelled.
"Very well. But first I must finish my roast duck." Iroh said, before he starts eating. Then Zuko remembered what happened last night.
"Uncle this may sound crazy, but I think I saw a Xeno'jiiva and Safi'jiiva last night." Zuko said, and Iroh stopped eating.
"It can't be, they went extinct when the war was in it's early years. But they could be from Draconia, an island of dragons such as Fanged Wyverns, Flying Wyverns and Elder Dragons, that live at the Throat of the World. Those two you mentioned are in the latter." Iroh said.
"Well, what if the Xeno'jiiva was singing?" Zuko asked.
"It can sing because the dragons of Draconia are people, and the people were exiled when your great-grandfather, Fire Lord Sozin, chose them to become his slaves. But when they refused, they chose exile over death. And a great god, known as Akatosh, was their leader that saved them from slavery, they said he can transform into dragon at will. So he taught the people of Draconia to transform into their perspective dragons inside their souls." Iroh said.
"How could you know all this stuff?" Zuko asked. Iroh drank from a cup of tea.
"I just know." Iroh said.
In the afternoon, Sokka, clearly addressing an audience as he paces back and forth.
"Now men, it's important that you show no fear when you face a firebender. In the Water Tribe, we fight to the last man standing. For without courage, how can we call ourselves men?" Sokka said to the audience, which is a group of six children, most of whom are toddlers.
"I gotta pee!" A little boy said, raising his hand.
"Listen! Until your fathers return from the war, they're counting on you to be the men of this tribe. And that means no potty breaks." Sokka said.
"But I really gotta go." The boy said.
"Okay... who else has to go?" Sokka said, all six raise their hands. Sokka slaps his forehead in disgust as all six boys went to use the bathroom.
"Have you seen Aang? Gran Gran said he disappeared over an hour ago." Katana asks Sokka, and Akari goes toward them.
" I heard he had to use the bathroom." She said. Aang emerges from a small igloo type bathroom stall. He adjusts his pants and smiles at the trip of boys coming to use the toilet.
"Wow! Everything freezes in there!" Aang said, and Akari chuckles as the children laughs.
"Ugh! Katara, Akari, get him out of here. This lesson is for warriors only." Sokka angrily said. With Appa, Aang on his back. They have propped up his tail using a makeshift sawhorse. A kid has used Appa's back and tail as a slide to land in a pile of snow. The children, and soon Katara, all start laughing. And Lelouch enters the fray.
"Stop! Stop it right now! What's wrong with you? We don't have time for fun and games with a war going on." Sokka said.
"What war? What are you talking about?" Aang asked. The four look at him in confusion.
"You're kidding, right?" Sokka and Akari spoke at the same time. Aang's gaze shifts slightly off of them to look at something beyond him.
"PENGUIN!" Aang yells, he sees a penguin in distance, visible between Sokka, Katara, Akari and Lelouch. The penguin, aware that it has been spotted, makes an excited noise and turns to waddle away. Aang uses his airbending skill to run at unbelievable speed toward the horizon where the penguin had just been.
"He's kidding, right?" Sokka asked.
"I'll go after him." Katara said. But Lelouch grabbed her hand.
"No, I don't want you getting hurt." Lelouch said.
"I'll be fine." Katara said going to Aang's direction. Lelouch looks at Akari, the thing is Lelouch had a crush on Katara for some time now.
"She knows how to take care of herself, brother. I wouldn't worry." Akari said.
"But I feel something bad is going to happen." Lelouch said. Speckles then nuzzled his foster father's leg, feeling sympathy for him.
At a beach loaded with penguins who waddle around squawking. Katara was looking for Aang. Akari and Lelouch followed her.
"Aang?" Katara and Lelouch yelled. Aang chasing some penguins, but unable to catch them as the waddle away. Aang lunges, but falls flat on his face. He gets back up as Katara approaches.
"Heh heh, I have a way with animals. Yarp! Yarp yarp! Yarp! Yarp yarp! Yarp!" Aang said as he puts his arms out and waddles in imitation of the four flippered penguins. Akari and Lelouch chuckles while Katara giggled.
"Aang, I'll help you catch a penguin if you teach me waterbending." Katara said.
"You got a deal! Just one little problem. I'm an airbender, not a waterbender. Isn't there someone in your tribe who can teach you?" Aang said.
"No. You're looking at the only waterbender on the whole South Pole." Katara said looking away in sadness.
"This isn't right. A waterbender needs to master water. What about the North Pole? There's another Water Tribe up there, right? Maybe they have waterbenders who could teach you." Aang suggested.
"Maybe. But we haven't had contact with our sister tribe in a long time. It's not exactly 'turn right at the second glacier.' It's on the other side of the world." Katara said. The dragonwolf siblings nodded in agreement.
"But you forget: I have a flying bison. Appa and I can personally fly you to the North Pole. Katara, we're gonna find you a master!" Aang said.
"That's... I mean, I don't know. I've never left home before." Katara said, uncertain.
"Well, you think about it. But in the meantime, can you teach me to catch one of these penguins?" Aang asked.
"Okay, listen closely my young pupil. Catching penguins is an ancient and sacred art. Observe." Katara said in a mock teacherly tone. She produces a little fish from her coat and tosses it at Aang. He is instantly surrounded by a horde of hungry penguins. In the late afternoon, Katara and Aang rocket off the ice bank, each sitting atop a penguin. The land on the bank below and continue down at high speed on the penguin's belly. Aang and his penguin take a jump off a small ramp, eventually landing in front of Katara. She takes the jump and lands near him. They laugh and whoop happily. Akari and Lelouch were flying nearby.
"I haven't done this since I was a kid!" Katara yelled happily.
"You still are a kid!" Aang, Akari and Lelouch yelled. They continue to rocket across the frozen landscape, eventually entering system of ice tunnels. The tunnels are have periodic gaps where sunlight pours through. They emerge from the tunnels and get off their mounts, which stand up and dizzily wander away making little chirping noises. They walk forward, looking at something in front of them. Akari and Lelouch transform back to their human selves.
"Whoa... what is that?" Aang asked, it was a huge Fire Nation ship locked in the ice in front of them.
"A Fire Navy ship, and a very bad memory for my/her people." Katara and Lelouch said at the same time. Aang begins to walk to the ship.
"Aang, stop! We're not allowed to go near it. The ship could be booby trapped." Akari said.
"If you wanna be a bender, you have to let go of fear." Aang said. They looked uncertain, then follows him to the ship. They climb up and enter the ship through a gaping hole in one of the forward compartments below the water line. They walk around the dark corridors inside past many a darkened room.
"This ship has haunted my tribe since Gran Gran was a little girl. It was part of the Fire Nation's first attacks." Katara said.
"Okay, back up. I have friends all over the world, even in the Fire Nation. I've never seen any war." Aang said.
"Aang, how long were you in that iceberg?" Katara asked.
"I don't know... a few days, maybe?" Aang said, uncertain.
"I think it was more like a hundred years!" Akari realized, her and her brother's eyes widened in shock.
"What? That's impossible. Do I look like a hundred-twelve year old man to you?" Aang said.
"Think about it. The war is a century old. You don't know about it because, somehow, you were in there that whole time. It's the only explanation." Lelouch said, Aang eyes widened in shock. He puts his hand to his head and walks backward. Stunned by this realization, he sinks to the floor.
"A hundred years! I can't believe it." Aang said. Akari knelt beside him.
"I'm sorry, Aang. Maybe somehow there's a bright side to all this." Akari said.
"I did get to meet you, your brother, Katara and Sokka." Aang said. Akari smiled.
"Come on. Let's get out of here." Akari said. Lelouch smirks eyeing his sister.
"What?" Akari said.
"I haven't seen you been so happy in two years." Lelouch said.
"Really? I guess it's been so long, I forgot how to be happy." Akari said, they start walking once again.
"Aang? Let's head back. This place is creepy." Katara said. Suddenly, Aang's foot was dragging a trip wire on the floor. Behind them the door is blocked by a grate that drops from the ceiling. They grab it just after it falls shut. They are trapped.
"What's that you said about booby traps?" Aang asked. Around them, machinery in the room starts to operate. Gauges show steam pressure and wheels begin to turn. Steam begins to pour out of some of the equipment. Cut to an exterior shot of the ship. Suddenly, a bright flare explodes out of the Fire Navy ship and into the sky, leaving a trail of smoke behind it. When it reaches its zenith it explodes with a small shower of sparks.
"Hold on tight!" Lelouch said. He grabs Katara, who cries out in surprise, and launches them both through the hole in the ceiling. He lands with her in his arms on top of the bridge. Akari does the same thing to Aang.
"The last airbender. Quite agile for his old age. Wake my uncle! Tell him I found the Avatar... as well as his hiding place." Zuko said. He finally found them. At the ship, Akari knows her life is about to change.
