How to train your Saiyan

Chapter 1 – New Power Source
The sun rose once again on the small planet earth. Goku had awoken and was already getting Gohan ready for their daily training. Ever since the Cell games Gohan had become extremely strong and neatly to that of the level of Goku but the one thing Goku had over Gohan was experience. That's the reason Goku was training Gohan so that one day he would be better than him.
Normally their training would consist of a short sparring session and some targeting practice, sometimes even just hitting the books and learning more about what it's like to be a Saiyan. Goku took Gohan away from their house and to an open area that had become all to familiar to Gohan over the past couple of years.
As training sessions go, it was fairly normal but it wasn't Gohan that Goku was focusing on it was a strange power he could feel very far away.
"Hey Gohan, follow me, I can feel a series of strange powers far away from here that I want to look at." Goku said as he looked at his son.
"Ok Dad." Gohan said before they both took off in the direction of the power source. Journey took them around a hour going at the speeds they were going and before they knew it they had come up upon a forest and in the distance they seen a town.
In the town Goku quickly senses six individual power sources coming from the separate houses but what was exciting to him was that two of the six powers we extremely high, with training they could easily exceed the level that he was at.
Goku signalled Gohan to approach the village with him. After a couple minutes they were walking through the village and to Goku it seemed as if the village had never been outside of its area before. The buildings looked as if they were from the Viking times and most looked fairly new. At the far back of the village stood a grander house compared to the rest that stood out due to its unique edges and adaptations.
The house looked far beyond the rest of the village technology wise and incorporated metals in its design that the other buildings didn't seem to have. Looking past the house Goku laid his eyes upon a grand hall built into the side of the mountain. On both sides of the large door there were large statues of very large buff men that looked extremely power and that's without powers.
"Why does it look so old Dad?" Gohan asked from beside his father.
"I'm not sure Gohan. It looks like most of these people have never seen the outside world before." Goku said as they continued to walk through the village. Goku was starting to get concerned because he hadn't seen any people but his worries were soon put to rest when he heard a booming voice in the distance.
"Hello there strangers!" A stoic looking man shouted as he descended a massive set of steps that led up to the grand hall in the mountain side.
"Uh hi, we mean you no harm." Goku said nervously.
"I can see that, my name is Stoick and I am the Chief of this village." Stoick said as he arrived in front of the pair.
"It's nice to meet you Sir, my name is Goku and this is my son Gohan." Goku said as he gestured to Gohan joe silently waved when his name was mentioned.
'Weird names' Stoick said to himself. "It's nice to meet you two, now how may I help you?" Stoick asked.
"We have come to speak to someone." Goku said simply.
"Ok, do you know who you want to speak to? There is a lot of people in this village." Stoick finished with a chuckle.
Goku let out his own little chuckle before responding. "Well I don't know exactly but it does appear that the person is in that house on the top of the hill." Goku said as he pointed towards the more 'modern' house.
Stoick facial expression visually changed at this. "Well that would be my house and my son is the only one home."
"That may have been the case but it no longer is." Goku said as he pointed towards the steps that led up to the house where a blonde girl was climbing up towards the house.
"Ah that would be Astrid. Hiccup has probably done something to annoy her again." Stoick said as he noticeably got angrier towards the end of his sentence.
"Would it be possible to have a word with Hiccup?" Goku asked again.
"Oh yes of course, just make sure he doesn't get in trouble." Stoick said as he turned away and walked back towards the hall.
Goku and Gohan made their way towards the 'modern' house on the hill. Upon approach voices became louder from within the house not because of distance but because of the apparent rising intensity in the conversation.
"Hiccup! I won't say it again I need my axe fixing and Gobber isn't in the shop so I need you to do it!" Astrid shouted.
"And I will say again that you will have to wait because there is plenty of other weapons that need fixing that have been waiting much longer but none of their owners complain." Hiccup said calmly.
"Ugh you are so insufferable." Astrid said with annoyance. Deciding that the conversation had finished Goku decided to knock on the door.
"One second!" Hiccup shouted as he made his way out of his room and down to door. Hiccup opened the door and was instantly shocked but composed himself before speaking.
"Uh hi? Can I help you?" Hiccup asked as calmly as possible.
"Are you Hiccup?" Goku asked.
"Um yeah? Who is asking?" Hiccup asked confused at how some strangers knew his name.
"My name is Goku and this is my son Gohan. Would it be possible to have a word with you, privately?" Goku said.
"Who is it Hiccup?" Astrid asked from the top of the stairs. Hiccup gestured for Goku and Gohan to come in and Astrid gasped when she saw the pair.
"Who are you!" Astrid said in a threatening tone.
"This is Goku and his son Gohan." Hiccup said. Astrid looked at him with the threatening tone and Hiccup quickly raised his hands. It was at this point that Goku realised that Astrid was not only another holder of power but she was second to Hiccup who was the strongest by power.
"On second thought maybe it would be best to talk to both of you." Goku said simply.
"Why do you want to talk to us?" Astrid said as she moved to stand next to Hiccup, opposite the other pair.
"You two might not know it but you both along with four others in this village have extremely high amounts of latent power inside of you." Goku said observing the two.
Astrid had a look of disbelief whilst Hiccup was more intrigued than anything. "What do you mean by latent power?" Hiccup asked.
"This latent power will make you extremely powerful-" Goku was cut off by Gohan.
"And you can do awesome moves!" Gohan said with excitement.
"I think a demonstration would be best to show off what we mean. Is there anywhere you guys know of that would be safe to show you what we mean." Goku said.
"S-safe?" Astrid said in disbelief. "What do you mean by safe, is this power that destructive."
"In the hands of someone who doesn't know how to control it definitely. There is people in this universe that use their power for bad and me and Gohan here use our power to stop the bad." Goku said.
Hiccup looked like he was about to burst with questions but kept himself in check. "I know a place, follow me." Hiccup said.
After a 20 minutes they had finally reached the destination, the cove. It was a picturesque place, with large cliff walls than go up from the lower centre. There is a massive lake that takes up most of the space but it was completely cut off from any type of civilisation.
"Ok this is it, show us what you wanted too." Astrid said as she crossed her arms across her chest.
"Go on Dad! You are going to do your signature move right?" Gohan said as he took a seat on a nearby rock.
"Of course Gohan. Prepare yourselves, the shockwave might push you back." Goku warned before he took several steps away and started building up energy.
"AHHHHHHHHH!" Goku roared as he turned into a Super Saiyan. His hair tuned completely gold and was now pointing upwards. Hiccup and Astrid were in awe and Goku hadn't even done his attack yet.
"Ok guys get ready, here we go!" Goku said. "Kame!" Goku shifted his hands to his side in a cup shape. "Hame!" A blue orb started to build up between his hands. By this point the wind had picked up dramatically and Hiccup and Astrid were now hiding behind a rock.
"Ha!" Goku roared as he unleashed the large blue orb into the sky that extended out into a blue beam that swirled upon itself. Hiccup and Astrid were in disbelief at what they had just seen meanwhile Gohan just sat quietly on a nearby rock like he had seen it all before.
Goku finished his Kamehameha and turned back towards the duo. "We can do that?" Hiccup muttered out in disbelief.
"Well maybe not that exactly, everyone has different moves, like Gohan here has a move named Masenko and that is a yellow beam instead of blue." Goku said as he glanced towards Gohan who looked up at the mention of his name.
This time Astrid spoke up. "So how do we learn to do that?"
"It's really not that hard to do but it's going to take a while and should probably happen in a safe environment." Goku said rubbing the back of his head.
"Do you have anywhere in mind?" Hiccup asked.
"I do, but it's far away from here and I don't think you guys want to leave your families." Goku said.
"I do." Hiccup said firmly. Astrid looked at Hiccup beside her feeling guilty for all the years that she and their group ignored him and now the first opportunity Hiccup gets to leave Berk he does it in a heart beat. Now learning that he wasn't weak at all made Astrid feel even worse and from now on vowed to be nicer to him.
Astrid removed herself from her own thoughts and replied. "It wouldn't be ideal to leave my Mum but if I had to for the greater good, at least I would have my friends with me." Astrid finished and looked at Hiccup smiling but he just gave her a confused face.
"That might not be the case but I need to ask a few people at the possibility of moving the people of Berk to a new sky city that one of my friends recently developed." Goku said.
"Sky city?" Hiccup asked confused.
"One of my friends is super smart and managed to make a city that floats in the sky, it's only recently been developed so there isn't many people living there and it would be perfect for the people of Berk and for you because it has many training facilities but of course Stoick has to agree." Goku stated.
"I'm not sure what Stoick will thing but if you let him do what he wants to do with the place, within reason obviously, then he might agree." Hiccup said.
"Of course that could be done. Now let me contact someone a minute. King Kai can you hear me?" Goku asked looking up into the sky.
"Ah Goku, what can I do for you?" King Kai spoke from a far away planet into Goku's head.
"Could you allow me to speak to Bulma please?" Goku asked.
"Of course Goku! I'm glad you thought of my ability." King Kai spoke.
"Bulma? Can you hear me?" Goku said out load which made Hiccup and Astrid look at him in confusion.
"Oh hello Goku. What can I do for you." Bulma said in her cheerful voice.
"Hi Bulma, I have come across many very big power sources but they are only teenagers just older than Gohan. They live in a isolated village far away from civilisation and I wanted to take them away to train them but they are sceptical to leave their families. I was wondering if the community agrees would I be allowed to move them to the new city and have their Chief have a major role in running things there?" Goku asked.
"Wow calm down Goku that is a lot to take in. I'm sure it would be fine to move the community to the new city but take over control I'm not sure. There is a lot of high tech facilities up there so I would have to teach this Chief how to operate everything before he could take over but I guess it could work."
"Great thanks Bulma, I'm going to go ask the Chief now what he thinks." Goku said excitedly.
Goku, Gohan, Hiccup and Astrid made their way back to the village. Upon reaching the village Hiccup and Astrid split off to try and find the Chief leaving Goku and Gohan to stand around. It wasn't long before Hiccup and Astrid returned with the Chief.
"It's good to see you again Goku! My son and Astrid have told me that you have a proposition for me." Stoick said crossing his arms over his chest.
"Yeah I do, these two here along with a few others in this town have extreme powers that can be used for good but they are reluctant to move because they don't want to leave their families." Goku said.
"Extreme power?" Stoick said calmly.
"Believe us Dad, we have seen it, he isn't lying." Hiccup said looking at Stoick.
Stoick just merely looked at him before turning back to Goku. "Ok, what's the proposition then?"
"My friend, who is super smart recently developed a floating sky city, she is willing to let this community move and live on this floating city so that I may train these powerful individuals to use their power for good. She even said that after she has taught you Stoick how to use all of the controls in the city she might even give over command to you." Goku finished.
"Sky city?" Stoick said in disbelief.
"It's like this village but floating in the air, it is also filled with high tech equipment that you guys have never seen before." Goku said excitedly.
"Certainly sounds interesting." Stoick said scratching his chin.
"They is plenty of choice for customisation there, you could change it so it looks exactly like this place or make it look completely different." Gohan said beside Goku.
"May we be allowed to show you and some others the sky city so that you can make your decision." Goku said.
"Ok I will allow it, I'll bring my son and Astrid along with me to inspect it." Stoick said.
"Great! I'll go see Bulma so she can bring a car here." Goku said as flew off towards Capsule Corp.
"My Dad is going to be a while so I'll just hang around here for a while." Gohan said and jetted off towards the cove.
Everyone that had gathered in the town now started to disperse leaving just Hiccup standing alone in the town centre. 'Maybe Gohan can help me with this power thing they are on about, or maybe he could help with my fighting since I can't do that either.' Hiccup thought to himself and decided he would act on it and made his way to the cove.
After another 20 minutes Hiccup arrived at the cove and saw Gohan floating in the air with his legs crossed and his eyes closed with his hands in his lap.
"Uh Mr Gohan…" Hiccup started before he was cut off.
"Gohan." He said. "Gohan is just fine."
"Ok Gohan, I wondering if you could teach me a few thing before we get to the sky city." Hiccup asked as he came to stand near where Gohan was floating.
At that comment Gohan opened his eyes and looked at Hiccup before landing back on his feet. "Why do you want to learn now?" Gohan said knowing there was a reason behind the request.
'How do he know? This guy is smarter than I thought.' Hiccup said to himself. "As you might have guessed during your short time here, I'm not actually the most popular person, that probably comes from my lack of ability to do pretty much anything."
"Why does that make you unpopular? Just because you can't do as much as others doesn't mean you are back at everything, I'm sure there is something you excel at isn't there?" Gohan asked.
"Well I work in the forge with Gobber, and I like to design things but no one listens or cares about my designs." Hiccup said dejectedly.
"Well I can take a look at some of these designs when we reach the sky city. Perhaps you could even help me out with design new features and upgrades. But down to business, what is it you want to know?" Gohan said crossing his arms over his chest.
"Maybe some fighting techniques or maybe how to fly? I'm not sure, what do you think would be good for me to learn?" Hiccup asked.
"Honestly, I think fighting is best left until we reach the sky city. I know that even if the chief doesn't want to move there, me and my Dad will be come back here to train you lot. So for now flying would be good, maybe then you can come to the sky city whenever you want." Gohan said.
"Ok sounds good. Now how do I go about doing this." Hiccup asked.
"Now this May sound stupid but you have to listen and do what I say." Hiccup nodded, so Gohan continued. "What I need you to do is close your eyes and look deep inside yourself. Search for a source of power, blank out anything that is around, the noise of the birds, the wind chill on your skin and even my voice. Take away your conscious from your body and look deep within yourself."
Hiccup did exactly as Gohan said and soon he couldn't hear anything just his own mind working it's way through his body. Quicker than he thought Hiccup managed to find something strong within his body, it wasn't physical but he could sense the strength it held and focussed upon that. It was just as he found the strength within himself did he hear Gohan voice once again.
"Once you have found the strength within yourself try and direct some of it to your feet." Gohan said before he was cut off again. Hiccup did as he was told but found it extremely difficult to move that strength around. 'Come on Hiccup you are doing this to prove yourself that you aren't useless, that you deserve a place in the village, that you aren't completely helpless to Astrid.' And with that thought Hiccup pushed some of the energy down to his feet and held it there.
Hiccup opened his eyes after another minute and found himself looking directly ahead to Gohan. Thinking he had failed he hung his head low but as he did he realised that he was no where near the floor and in fact he was floating and Gohan had risen to his height. Hiccups mind went into overdrive but before he could panic too much Gohan's voice attracted his attention again.
"Don't lose concentration Hiccup or else you will fall, if it helps don't look down and keep that bit of energy at the bottom of your feet so you don't fall." Gohan said confidently.
Hiccup stabilised himself before speaking. "I can't believe I did it!" Hiccup said dumbfounded.
"Hiccup." Gohan said and Hiccup looked at him. "No one has done that as fast as you before, you are most certainly not useless. I know what drove you to do that but I'm afraid it can't."
"What do you mean? If I think like that again I can do anything." Hiccup said.
"No you can't. That feeling is only brief, I know you have your reasons for thinking that, like trying to impress your Dad and prove to the blonde girl that you aren't useless but it won't last forever. I know the reason for me and my Dads power is because we try to protect the people we love." Gohan said with confidence.
Hiccup blushed at the comment at Astrid but continued anyway. "So what should I try to prove?"
"Maybe not prove, but protect. You are next in line to be chief right?" Hiccup nodded. "Has your Dad ever told you what the most important role of a chief is?"
Hiccup's eye lightened up when he remembered what his Dad always says but never thought it would come in handy. "A chief protects his own."
"Exactly, that's what you should believe in, you possess amazing leadership qualities Hiccup and you will be a great chief one day so you should start believing that your job is to protect people, the ones you love most importantly and as many civilian lives as possible." Gohan said.
"You don't understand how much this means Gohan, this has completely changed my view. I think I am still going to hold on to some qualities but I know now that the reason I am trying to get stronger is to protect the ones that I love and the ones not as fortunate as me to have this kind of power." Hiccup said.
At this point the two had been floating in the air talking for almost 10 minutes when Gohan spoke up again. "Since you can fly now we can probably make our way to the sky city if you want to."
"Sure, we should go tell my Dad and Astrid before we go." Hiccup said.
Gohan nodded but before they took off he decided to give one more piece of knowledge. "Oh Hiccup, if you want to fly faster just push more energy into your feet and tilt yourself in the direction you want to go. Maybe don't put too much in your feet either you might lose control and we don't want that." Gohan chuckled and followed swiftly by Hiccup.
Following Gohan's advice Hiccup pushed more energy into feet and to his surprised and jetted off towards the village at speeds he never dreamed of. In only the space of a couple minutes both Gohan and Hiccup arrived back at the village and stopped right before the chief's house.
Upon entering Hiccup and Gohan were greeted by Stoick and Gobber. "Ah son, is Goku back yet?"
"No he isn't yet but I'm sure he will be soon, me and Gohan just came to tell you that we are gonna head up ahead and we will meet you up there." Hiccup said calmly.
"But how, you have no way to get there without the flying thing Goku is bringing." Stoick said confused. After saying that Astrid entered into the house and stood to the side of the room.
"Oh yeah I forgot about that. Gohan here taught me how to fly." Hiccup said calmly whilst he surveyed the reaction of everyone in the room. Astrid also slipped from the wall she was leaning on before composing herself, Gobber had a proud grin on his face and Stoick's mouth was agape.
"How did you manage that Hiccup?" Astrid asked hiding a well of proudness that rose from inside her.
"It's not all that hard really… especially with a teacher like Gohan." Hiccup said nervously as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Don't worry Stoick, Hiccup will be with me, I won't let anything happen to him." Gohan spoke up from next to Hiccup.
"Ok son, we will see you up there soon." Stoick said with a proud smile on his face.
Hiccup and Gohan turned and left the house and out into the outdoors. Both of them lifted themselves up into the air and Gohan started to move further away but before Hiccup followed him he turned around to look back at the three and he even caught Astrid sending a proud smile at him whilst Stoick and Gobber just stared at Hiccup surprised. Hiccup pushed more energy into his feet and flew away to catch up to Gohan.
"If that isn't the smile of a proud father I don't know what is. And if I'm not mistaken might have even saw your blonde crush sending you a smile." Gohan said cheekily.
"W-what how? How did you know?" Hiccup said staring at him.
"Oh come on Hiccup, you aren't exactly discreet." Gohan said laughing.
"Might need to work on that then." Hiccup said before he joined Gohan laughing.
After 20 minutes of flying they started to slow down. "Why are we slowing down Gohan?"
Gohan didn't respond straight away and decided he would let the sight do it for him because before them both was the floating fortress known as the sky city.
"We are here."
