Nurse Inosuke

Quick one-shot idea from the discord server I'm part of.

I hope you like it.

Disclaimer: I don't own Kimetsu.

Inosuke will never, ever, admit this out loud but he genuinely thinks he might have made a mistake.

Again, not that he will ever admit it.

"Are you out of your mind?! You can't just force someone to drink their medicine, even less so in the way you did!" Aoi scolded him for the… honestly, neither was really keeping count at this point.

It had all started with a ridiculous argument.

Flashback

The Kamaboko squad was walking back to the Butterfly State after finishing a mission, no one had any injuries but that mansion had become their place to return to after missions until they get new orders.

"I'm so glad I didn't get any injuries." Zenitsu said with a sigh. "The medicines are so bitter."

"You have to take them even if they don't taste good, Zenitsu." Tanjiro retorted.

"I know, I know…" The blond trailed off, not really wanting to start a conversation about that.

"Besides, Shinobu-san, Aoi-san and the others are always making sure to be careful when treating our injuries, the least we can do is help make their jobs easier." The Kamado added with a smile.

"What do you mean, Gonpachiro?" Inosuke asked. "All they have to do is give us that awful tasting beverage and wrap bandages around us."

At this, the other two looked at him as if they were looking at a kid that didn't understand something that is common sense.

"What's with that look?! You two picking up a fight?!"

"No, no, it's just that their job isn't as easy as you make it sound." Tanjiro answered.

"That's right, you are simplifying it too much." Zenitsu added. "Then again, it's not like you could ever do what they do."

"Huh?! I so could! And I would do it even better than them!"

"Please, you wouldn't last a week acting as a nurse." The Agatsuma commented haughtily.

"Yes, I would!"

"Hmm, guys-"

"And I'll prove it!" Inosuke continued, interrupting the red haired swordsman. "Once we get back, I'll go tell Shinobu to let me help with those tasks and I'll show you!"

"Oh, yeah, let's see how long you last, you pig!"

'…I am sorry, Shinobu-san.' The Kamado sent a silent apology towards the head of the Butterfly State, regretting that he couldn't stop them before it got to this.

End of Flashback

And so, after Inosuke went to Shinobu about working there, and Tanjiro explained the entire situation since the dual wielder simply yelled 'I'm going to work like the twin tail girl and the caterpillars!', the Insect Pillar agreed to let him help on the condition that Aoi will be supervising and that he has to hear what she says.

Aoi was less than pleased, to say the least, when she heard about it but Shinobu managed to convince her to at least give it a chance.

The blue eyed girl tried to be patient and explain to Inosuke what he has to do, she really did, but every time Inosuke tries to take care of a patient he ends up screwing up somehow.

From tying the bandages too tight even after telling him to loosen them up, to just grabbing whatever medicine instead of the one she told him to get, to eating part, or all, of their meals before they get there; there was one patient that was been difficult about taking their medicine, so he just grabbed their head and shoved the medicine in their mouth. Said patient almost choked from it but Aoi managed to get Inosuke off with some help from Tanjiro who happened to be walking by and heard the commotion, she then proceeded to take off his boar mask and slap him so he understood that this was the last straw before dragging him to another room and give him a good scolding.

"It's the third day, I have been more than patient but if you keep doing this then I will tell Shinobu-san that this isn't working and that you're hampering us more than helping." Aoi declared with a serious look.

"…"

"…"

Inosuke simply looked away, his mask is in his hands instead of on his head, without saying anything.

"…maybe that would be for the best." He finally said.

"You-… wait… what?" Aoi had to do a double take, she was sure he would say something along the lines of 'I can do it, I'll show you!' and begin to argue about letting him help for a while longer.

It's not that she wouldn't give him one more chance, it would be the last, though, since she needs to be able to do her job properly, but hearing him say that was genuinely surprising.

"I just don't get it… you don't seem to like taking care of people yet you are always so gentle, what's wrong with you?"

"You're the last person that gets to ask me that." Aoi seethed. "And what do you mean I don't like it?"

"I always get this feeling that you would prefer it if there weren't any patients around." The Hashibira said.

"…of course I would." The black haired girl admitted. "The Butterfly State is always ready to take care of the injured but it is always better when it's empty, it means that no one is injured." Aoi explained with a downcast look. "I can't fight so I at least want to ease the injured people's pain and make sure they can recover properly… but I don't like seeing injured people in the first place."

"Hmm… alright, I decided." Inosuke suddenly said, putting on his mask.

"Decided what?"

"I'll get rid of all the demons so there aren't any more injured people!" The swordsman declared haughtily.

"…"

"…"

"…what?" Aoi asked, confusion written all over her features.

"If there are no demons then that means I will be the best at taking care of patients because I am preventing wounds in the first place!" He said, smiling smugly behind his mask.

"That… It doesn't work like that." The blue eyed girl answered. Of course she would be happy if there are no demons but the Hashibira's logic doesn't exactly make sense to her.

"Plus, you won't have to look at injured people anymore once I get rid of them so just you wait, Aoi!"

"It's not that I don't want that to… wait, what did you just say?"

"Huh? I said that-"

"You called me by my name… correctly." She said, staring at the eyes in Inosuke's mask with a mix of surprise and happiness.

"…so what!?" He suddenly yelled, looking like he is trying to adjust his mask further. "I'll go train now!" With that he ran off, hiding a very red face under his mask and leaving a smiling Aoi in the room.

Alright, done.

I hope you liked it!
