One day in Adventure Bay at the pool, Skye and Zuma were swimming around, having a good time.
"Man", Skye said, "what a great idea to spend the day at the pool."
"You said it, Skye", Zuma said.
Skye got out of the water and got onto the slide.
"Heads up, Zuma", Skye said.
Skye slid down the slide and landed in the water with a splash, causing her and Zuma to laugh.
"Man", Zuma said, "I just love the water."
"I can tell, considering that you're the team's water rescue pup", Skye said.
"And I couldn't ask fow a bettew wole on the team", Zuma said, "evew since I was a little pup, I loved swimming in the water, so when Wyder wecwuited me as the PAW Patwol's water wescue pup, it was a dweam come twue."
"I'm sure it was", Skye said.
But at that moment, Skye and Zuma's pup tags went off.
"Ryder needs us", Skye and Zuma said.
The two pups hurried to the lookout, and stood alongside the other pups.
"All pups present and accounted for, Ryder", Chase said, "what's the situation?"
"It's the Turbots", Ryder said, "they were out fishing for giant squid, when the crane on the Flounder broke and the motor gave out."
"Giant squid", Rubble asked, "but there aren't any in Adventure Bay."
"What are you talking about", Marshall asked, "if there's a giant octopus in Adventure Bay, then surely there must be giant squid in the ocean, too."
"That's a whole different story", Chase said, "giant squid live in the deepest parts of the ocean."
"Well, who's to say it's impossible for a giant squid to live in Adventure Bay", Marshall said.
"The water's not deep enough for them to live anywhere close to the bay", Chase said, "and another thing..."
"Hey, hey, pups, focus", Ryder said, "we need to help the Turbots out, and to do that, I'm going to need..."
Ryder swiped to Zuma's icon.
"Zuma, I need you to use your submarine to get the crane from the bottom of the sea", Ryder said.
"Let's dive in", Zuma said.
Next, Ryder swiped to Rocky's icon.
"And Rocky, I need you to use your tugboat to tow the Flounder back to the docks for repairs", Ryder said.
"Green means go", Rocky said.
"Alright", Ryder said, "PAW Patrol is on a roll!"
Ryder, Zuma, and Rocky set out to rescue the Turbots, and once they got to the sea, the former switched his ATV to water mode, and the latter converted his recycling truck into a tugboat, and they soon arrived at the Flounder, where Cap'n Turbot and Francois were waiting for them.
"Oh, thank goodness you're here, PAW Patrol", Cap'n Turbot said.
"That's right, Cap'n", Ryder said, "and we're here to help you."
"Please hurry", Francois said, "I ordered take-out from Monsieur Porter, and it's going to be ready for pick up in 15 minutes."
"Don't worry, we'll get you back in time", Ryder said, "Zuma, go get that crane."
"You got it, Wyder", Zuma said.
Zuma converted his hovercraft to submarine mode, dove down, got the crane, and brought it back up and set it on the Flounder.
"Good work, Zuma", Ryder said, "now it's time to tow the Flounder back to the docks."
"I'm all over it", Rocky said.
Rocky used his tugboat to pull the Flounder back to the docks, and once they were there, Francois quickly rushed away.
"I am coming, Porter burger and banana smoothie", Francois said.
Francois bumped into Cap'n Turbot as he rushed away, causing the latter's glasses to fall into the ocean.
"Oh no", Cap'n Turbot said, "I can't see without my glasses!"
"I've got it", Zuma said.
Zuma activated his scuba tanks, put his mouthpiece on, and dove down to the bottom of the sea to look for Cap'n Turbot's lost glasses, and soon spotted them.
"There they are", Zuma thought.
Zuma began moving close to them, but felt a sharp pain in his left hind leg, and began struggling to get back to the surface, where Ryder was feeling concerned.
"I hope Zuma's okay", Ryder said, "he hasn't come up yet."
"I've got an idea", Rocky said.
Rocky went into his tugboat and lowered down his hook.
"What are you doing", Ryder asked.
"Seeing if he needs help getting back up", Rocky said.
He then felt a tug at the line.
"I think that's a yes", Ryder said, "pull him up."
Rocky pulled Zuma up, and Ryder was shocked to see the latter feeling very hurt.
"Oh no", Ryder said, "Zuma!"
Ryder held Zuma and inspected his leg, which was bleeding.
"He's hurt", Ryder said.
At that moment, Cap'n Turbot walked over wearing a new set of glasses.
"Good news", Cap'n Turbot said, "I found my spare pair of glasses."
Then, he noticed the injured Zuma.
"What happened to Zuma", Cap'n Turbot asked.
"He got hurt while looking for your glasses", Ryder said.
Cap'n Turbot inspected the wound and recognized it.
"Looks like he got stung by a stingray", Cap'n Turbot said, "you better get him to Katie's, some parts of the stinger may have broken under his skin."
"Got it", Ryder said.
Ryder got on his ATV and hurried to Katie's pet parlor, where Katie inspected Zuma.
"With a little time, I think I may be able to make Zuma all better", Katie said.
"I hope so", Ryder said, "I just can't bear to think of one of my pups being injured like this."
"Don't worry, Ryder", Katie said, "I'll get started right away."
Katie got to work treating Zuma, and a few days later, the Chocolate Lab pup was feeling much better.
"Welcome back, Zuma", Chase said.
"How are you feeling", Marshall asked.
"Okay, I guess", Zuma said.
"That's good news", Ryder said, "because we've got a party celebrating your recovery waiting in the park."
"Weally", Zuma asked, "lead the way!"
"Gladly", Ryder said.
Zuma followed Ryder and the other pups to the park, and found a table with a cake and other snacks set up by the pool.
"Here we are", Ryder said, "now it's time to celebrate!"
"Way ahead of you", Rubble said.
Everyone began enjoying themselves, and Zuma watched on.
"Come on in, Zuma", Marshall said, "the water's great!"
Zuma walked towards the pool, but as he looked into the water, he flashed back to his near-death experience underwater a few days ago.
"Zuma", Everest asked, "are you okay?"
Zuma quickly turned around and ran away.
"What's up with him", Rocky asked.
"I don't know", Ryder said.
Skye went off to find Zuma, and found him hiding in the playground.
"Zuma, what's wrong", Skye asked, "why aren't you celebrating your own recovery?"
"Can't do it", Zuma said.
"Can't do what", Skye asked.
"Swim", Zuma said.
"Of course you can", Skye said, "you're the best swimmer the PAW Patrol has to offer."
"No, Skye, you don't understand", Zuma said, "after what happened in the water on that mission, I just don't think I can evew bwing myself to swim evew again."
Ryder and the other pups walked over.
"Is everything okay", Ryder asked, "what's the problem?"
"Zuma's too afraid to swim after he had that accident", Skye said.
"I was afraid this might happen", Ryder said, "when someone has a near-death experience in a certain scenario, it can lead to them developing a phobia of some sort."
"But Zuma can't have a fear of swimming", Marshall said, "he's our water rescue pup!"
"What good is a water rescue pup who's too afraid to swim", Rocky asked.
Hearing these words made Zuma feel sad.
"Hey, stop that", Skye said, "Zuma will swim again, and I'm going to help him."
"You will", Chase asked.
"Yes", Skye said, "Zuma and I are besties, we help each other out when we need it, and right now, he really needs it."
"Okay", Ryder said, "if you're really sure you can help him."
"Trust me", Skye said, "his fear is as good as overcome."
The following day, Skye and Zuma were at Katie's pet parlor, standing in front of one of the washing tubs, which was full of water.
"Here we are, Zuma", Skye said, "we're going to start small."
"Small", Zuma asked.
"Yes", Skye said, "and it starts by getting in this tub."
Zuma tried to run away, but Katie picked him up and carried him back over to Skye.
"Skye told me what she's doing", Katie said, "you have to do this."
"But the water", Zuma said.
"The water's fine", Skye said, "just climb in and relax."
Zuma walked over to the tub and looked at the water inside it.
"I don't know", Zuma said.
"Will you trust me", Skye asked, "there's nothing in there that can hurt you."
Zuma removed his collar, got into the tub, and relaxed.
"There you go", Skye said, "how does that feel?"
"Pwetty good, actually", Zuma said.
"Excellent", Skye said, "I think we're ready to move on now."
A little while later, Skye and Zuma were at the pool.
"Here we are", Skye said.
"The pool", Zuma asked.
"Yes", Skye said, "isn't it great?"
"That's bigger than a pet washing tub", Zuma said, "I'm not sure I can do this."
"It's okay, Zuma", Skye said, "I'm right here."
"You are", Zuma asked.
"Yes", Skye said, "there's nothing to worry about."
Zuma walked into the pool with Skye walking in alongside him.
"Well", Skye asked.
"Hey, this feels pwetty good", Zuma said, "it's amazing!"
Zuma lifted his paws in the air, accidentally splashing Skye.
"Hey", Skye said.
Skye splashed Zuma back.
"Oh, now you've done it", Zuma said.
Zuma and Skye got into a splash fight, but stopped when they heard a whistle.
"Uh-oh", Zuma said.
The lifeguard who was on duty pointed to a no splashing sign.
"Sorry", Skye said.
A little while later, Skye led Zuma over to the beach.
"Here we are, Zuma", Skye said, "now it's time for the ultimate step to conquering your fears: the ocean."
Zuma was feeling very nervous.
"Are you cwazy", Zuma asked, "you want me to swim in the ocean?"
"Why not", Skye asked.
"Well, thewe are all sowts of dangewous animals in thewe", Zuma said, "jellyfish, sea snakes, stingways..."
"Zuma, it's okay", Skye said, "there aren't any animals like that this close to the shore."
"How do you know that", Zuma asked.
"Trust me", Skye said.
Skye walked into the water.
"Come on, Zuma", Skye said.
Zuma took a deep breath and walked towards the water.
"I can do this, I can do this", Zuma said.
But as he stepped into the water, Zuma remembered how stingrays bury themselves in the sand, and begun to worry that he would get stung again.
"I can't do this", Zuma said.
Zuma quickly ran away, and Skye noticed him.
"Zuma, come back", Skye shouted.
Skye followed Zuma back to the lookout, and found him sulking in his pup house.
"Zuma, what happened", Skye asked, "you were doing so well up until that point."
"I can't do it, Skye", Zuma said, "I can't swim in the ocean evew again."
"Okay, so maybe things didn't go as planned this time", Skye said, "we'll try again later."
"No, Skye", Zuma said, "it's ovew."
Zuma went into his pup house and came out carrying a hobo stick.
"What are you doing", Skye asked.
"If I can't swim, I can't be the PAW Patwol's water pup anymore", Zuma said.
Skye could hardly believe what Zuma was saying.
"Zuma, you can't be serious", Skye said.
"I am sewious", Zuma said, "I quit."
Zuma walked away, and Ryder and the other pups walked over to Skye.
"What's going on, Skye", Ryder asked.
"And where's Zuma going", Chase asked.
Skye turned to the others with tears in her eyes.
"He's quit", Skye said, "Zuma has quit the PAW Patrol."
Ryder and the other pups gasped in horror at this.
"Quit", Marshall asked, "but why?"
"He thinks that his fear of water is preventing him from being a good water pup", Skye said, "that's why he quit."
Skye began crying, and Chase comforted her, while Ryder sadly went back into the lookout.
"Never before has a pup quit the PAW Patrol", Ryder said, "I never expected that it would actually happen."
The following day, the pups were outside, standing around Zuma's pup house.
"I sure miss him", Marshall said.
"Me too", Rubble said.
"Zuma was a great pup", Chase said, "brave, loyal, friendly, he was an example to us all."
"I couldn't ask for a better best friend than him", Skye said.
At that moment, Ryder walked outside.
"Hey, pups", Ryder said, "it's the first day of summer, and you know what that means."
"What", Tracker said.
"It's opening day at Adventure Beach", Ryder said, "and also the time of the year for Sea Patrol missions."
The pups were unenthusiastic about it.
"The Sea Patrol just isn't the same without our water rescue pup on it", Rocky said.
"Come on, pups", Ryder said, "I know you're all bummed out about Zuma, but we still have work to do."
"But he's left", Everest said, "we don't have any idea for where he could be."
"I see", Ryder said, "tell you what, I'll try and see if I can reach him so that we can at least see him one more time."
"Okay", Chase said, "I guess that would be alright."
"Great", Ryder said, "in the meantime, it's time we were all headed down to Adventure Beach."
Ryder and the pups went down to Adventure Beach, where much of the population of Adventure Bay was enjoying themselves.
"Ah, the beach", Ryder said, "there's nothing like it, am I right, pups?"
"I guess so", Skye said.
"Any luck on calling Zuma", Marshall asked.
"No", Ryder said, "he's not answering."
"Maybe I could go out and find him", Skye said, "I'll try and be quick."
"Go ahead", Ryder said.
"Okay", Skye said.
Skye got into her seaplane and flew over Adventure Bay, looking for Zuma through her goggles.
"He's around here somewhere", Skye said.
Pretty soon, she found him standing at the train station.
"There he is", Skye said.
Skye landed her seaplane and walked over to Zuma.
"Hey, Zuma", Skye said, "what are you doing here?"
"I missed the twain out of hewe last night, so I'm waiting for the next one", Zuma said.
"Zuma, I understand that you don't want to be a part of the PAW Patrol anymore, but at least stay here in Adventure Bay", Skye said, "we miss you."
"You do", Zuma asked.
"Of course we do", Skye said, "now come on, everyone's down at Adventure Beach."
"Adventure Beach", Zuma asked.
"Don't worry", Skye said, "no one's going to make you swim."
"Okay", Zuma said, "I'll come."
"Great", Skye said.
Zuma got into Skye's seaplane, and they flew down to Adventure Beach, where Ryder and the other pups were standing, and needless to say, there were all glad to see him.
"Zuma, you came back", Rubble said, "we knew you would!"
"That's nice to know, guys", Zuma said, "but I still quit."
"That's fine, Zuma", Ryder said, "we respect your decision, and will not force you to do something that you something you're not comfortable with doing."
"Thank you", Zuma said.
Just then, Ryder got a call on his Sea Patrol Pup Pad.
"Be right back", Ryder said, "I gotta take this."
Ryder walked away to answer the call, and Zuma decided to talk to the other pups.
"So", Zuma said, "I see you guys are all geawed up fow Sea Patwol missions."
"That's right", Everest said, "I'm excited to be on the Sea Patrol as a full-time PAW Patrol member."
"And this is my first time on the Sea Patrol", Tracker said, "I've always wanted to go on these kinds of missions."
"That's nice to heaw", Zuma said.
At that moment, the pups' pup tags went off.
"Ryder needs us", the pups (minus Zuma) said.
"Not me", Zuma said, "I wesigned."
The other pups reported to the beach tower with Ryder and stood in attention for him.
"Here we are, Ryder", Chase said, "all ready to set sail on our first Sea Patrol mission of the year."
"That's good, because we've got a bit of an emergency", Ryder said, "an oil tanker out at sea caught fire, and its crew are trapped on it."
"Oh no", Chase said, "that's not good at all."
"That right there is an understatement, Chase", Ryder said, "we have to work fast, so for this mission, I'll need..."
Ryder tapped on Marshall's icon.
"Marshall, I need you to put out the fire and rescue the crew", Ryder said.
"I'm all fired up", Marshall said.
Next, Ryder swiped to Rubble's icon.
"And Rubble, I need you to try and keep the tanker from tipping over or sinking while Marshall works", Ryder said.
"Rubble on the double", Rubble said.
"Alright", Ryder said, "Sea Patrol is on a roll!"
Ryder and the pups went down to the Sea Patroller's bridge and sat down.
"Load 'er up, Robo-Dog", Ryder said.
Robo-Dog barked in response and loaded Marshall and Rubble's Sea Patrol vehicles onto the Sea Patroller.
"Robo-Dog", Ryder said, "take us to sea!"
Robo-Dog separated the Sea Patroller from the Beach Tower, and the Sea Patrol sailed away, while Zuma watched on.
"Thewe they go", Zuma said, "sailing away to save the day."
A little while later, Zuma was suntanning on the beach, when Katie walked over to him.
"Hey, Zuma", Katie said.
"Oh, hi, Katie", Zuma said.
"What are you doing here on the beach", Katie asked, "shouldn't you be out with the Sea Patrol?"
"Nope", Zuma said, "I quit."
Katie was very shocked to hear this.
"You what", Katie asked.
"I said I quit", Zuma said.
"But why", Katie asked, "you're literally the heart and soul of the Sea Patrol."
"Not anymore", Zuma said, "I just can't swim after what happened to me."
At that moment, they noticed something in the water.
"Hey", Katie said, "what's that?"
Katie and Zuma noticed Daring Danny X, who was trying to stay afloat in the water.
"It's Danny", Katie said, "and he's in trouble."
"Oh no", Zuma said, "somebody help him!"
"Ryder and the other pups are still out on a mission", Katie said, "it looks like it's up to you, Zuma."
Zuma reacted in shock to this.
"Me", Zuma asked, "no, I can't do it."
"You have to", Katie said, "if you don't, Danny could drown."
"But I just can't get back into the water", Zuma said.
"Listen to me, Zuma", Katie said, "even though to quit the PAW Patrol, you're still a trained rescue pup, and a rescue pup never leaves a person in danger."
"But the watew", Zuma said.
"You can't let your fears hinder you from doing your job", Katie said, "you just have to get in there, swim to Danny, and rescue him."
Zuma put a determined look on his face.
"Okay", Zuma said, "I'll do it."
"That's the spirit", Katie said.
Zuma walked up to the water and took a deep breath.
"I can do this", Zuma said.
Zuma got into the water, and began flashing back to his accident, but put on his brave face once again.
"I have to do this", Zuma said.
Zuma swam out to where Danny was.
"Hang tight, Danny", Zuma said, "I'm hewe fow you."
"That's Daring Danny X", Danny said, "but thanks."
Zuma helped Danny get back to the beach.
"You okay, dude", Zuma asked.
"I think so", Danny asked.
"What happened", Katie asked.
"I was filming all the fish that are underwater", Danny said, "I reached out to touch one, and the next thing I know, there's pain flowing through my whole body."
It was at that moment that Ryder and the other pups, who had just returned from their emergency, noticed what was going on.
"What happened", Ryder asked.
"Danny was in trouble, but Zuma swam out and rescued him", Katie said.
"He did", Ryder said.
"I knew you still had it in you Zuma", Skye said.
"Thanks, Skye", Zuma said.
Marshall walked over to Danny and inspected the wound on his hand.
"Looks like you were stung by a Scorpionfish", Marshall said, "one of the most venomous fish in the ocean."
"Am I gonna be okay", Danny asked.
"Of course", Marshall said, "I'll do what I can."
While Marshall looked at Danny, Zuma spoke to Ryder.
"Wyder, I'm weally sowwy I quit the PAW Patwol", Zuma said, "if you can evew fowgive me, I'd like my job back."
"Zuma, there's nothing to forgive", Ryder said, "and we'd be happy to have you back with us."
"Oh, thank you, Wyder", Zuma said.
Zuma licked Ryder's face.
"Now come on", Ryder said, "let's go celebrate with a round of volleyball."
Zuma, Ryder, and the other pups got onto the beach and began playing a game of volleyball.
