AUTHOR'S NOTE:

Hi guys! I hope you're coping well during COVID-19. Onto the story, I thought it may be fun to write an Auslly story taking place in the 90's. I've been wanting to do it for quite a while, actually, I just couldn't figure out a plot. I love 90's shows and movies quite a bit, and I love A&A, so why not mix the two together? Anyway, I hope you guys like All that & a bag of chips.

Friday October 7, 1994:

ALLY:

I stand at my locker with my childhood best friend, Trish De La Rosa. Not so subtly, she gives me a smile and says,

"I heard that Austin Moon has a crush on you. Carrie told Piper who told Kira who told Cassidy who told me. He broke up with Brooke a few nights ago. She cheated on him."

Austin Moon is the jock of Marino High School. Every girl wants him. He had a girlfriend, Brooke, who he broke up because she cheated on him. I will say, it didn't take him long to move on. I know very little about him, and I feel bad that he got cheated on by Brooke. Who would cheat on a guy like him? While I do know very little about Austin, I have seen his face because my dad is a barber and a proprietor of his own barber shop and Austin gets his hair cut there. I have seen him because sometimes I go to my dad's shop to hang out. However, we've never interacted beyond just greeting each other.

Trish loves gossip. Telling her a juicy story or a secret is like having a fox guard a chicken coop. Speak of the devil- Austin Moon comes striding down the hall and he stares into my big brown eyes. Trish whispers in my ear,

"He's coming over. Act natural."

Austin pushes his blonde hair, obviously trying to flirt with me. He might need a haircut, and his eyes remind me of a puppy. That doesn't make him any less attractive, though.

"Hi, Austin. I heard about you and Brooke. I'm sorry."

He says,

"Hey, it's not your fault. She wasn't really all that and a bag of chips anyway. She was clingy and demanding and she cheated on me. I'd been wanting to kick her to the curb for a very long time."

He stares into my eyes. I feel sort of funny and attracted to Austin.

"That outfit looks rad on you, by the way."

I say,

"Thank you."

He asks me,

"I got tickets to Pulp Fiction."

"Yeah, that movie is supposed to be totally phat. Doesn't it come out next week though?"

"Yeah, but the movie premiere is tonight. I have an extra ticket and I would have gone with Brooke, if she didn't two-time me. Would you maybe want to take her place?"

I can tell Austin really wants to take me out to dinner and a movie. I know very little about him, but he's fly and he's cute. His charisma is the bomb and you can tell he's not your average jock- you know, the kinds who are meatheaded jerks. I decide to give Austin a chance as he seems like a jock with a sensitive side.

"Sure."

"Great. I'll pick you up at 7:00. Give me your number and your address."

I take a pen out of the pocket of my baggy jeans and I write my number and address on Austin's hand.

"Thank you. It'll be totally sweet!"

I say,

"Me? Resist someone like you? As if!"

He kisses my hand and I blush. He walks off, winking and clicking his tongue at me. Trish smiles and slightly squeals in excitement.

"OMG, did Austin Moon just ask you out?"

I say,

"Yes he did! I'm actually quite excited for this date!"

Trish says,

"You've gotta let me come over to your house to help you prepare!"

I say,

"Sure, Trish. You're my go-to when it comes to events."

Trish is the one who talked me into wearing belly shirts as I'm not that popular. Instead, I'm modest, meek, shy and a nerd. Austin Moon is into me and people like me would normally not want anything to do with jocks as we're targets for bullying and humiliation. He's that exception. After school, Trish and I are back at my house, playing my Spice Girls album on my boombox.

Sometimes when we're bored, we host mini dance parties where we dance to Destiny's Child. The Spice Girls, All Saints, Backstreet Boys, Destiny's Child, Foo Fighters, Wilson Phillips, and Nirvana are the bands we both fawn over. Over the summer was Trish's Quinceanera and we got tickets to see Mariah Carey in concert and we got tickets to see her in concert. We're also both very obsessed with Beverly Hills, 90210, Boy meets World, Clarissa explains it all and that new sitcom Friends. After twelve outfits and three times of my cassette tape of Destiny's Child, we decide on a cropped tank top, overalls and strappy platforms. She does my hair, making me look like Cindy Crawford with her voluminous waves. She applies makeup to my face.

"You look the bomb!"

Trish says to me.

I say,

"You have the best taste, Trish. Maybe you'll open a boutique someday."

"Trust me, that's my dream."

My dad is just plopped down on the couch drinking his whiskey and watching reruns of Seinfeld. He says,

"Ally, are you excited for your date?"

I ask,

"How do you know about my date? Did Trish spill the beans to you?"

He says,

"Nope. You know that Austin kid whose hair I cut?"

"Yeah. I know him. Not well, but I know him."

"He told me he asked you out and he wanted to look fresh for you. He seems to be so excited about taking you out."

Although I'm not a superficial person and I hate people who are self-obsessed, I can admire a guy who likes to make sure he's clean cut. Most jocks are meatheaded and narcissistic, but Austin isn't like them. He's sensitive and sweet. Why do you think he asked out a nerdy girl?

I say,

"Yeah. We're going to a screening of Pulp Fiction."

"Be home whenever. Have a great time."

I say,

"Thanks, Dad."

Sure enough, I see Austin in his BMW, waiting in my driveway.

"You look absolutely adorable,"

he said to me.

"Thank you. I heard my dad gave you a haircut today."

"He did. He seemed kinda excited I was taking you on a date and didn't go all protective Daddy on me."

I giggle.

"You're perfectly trustworthy, you know. I barely know you but I think I can trust you."

"Where would you like to go for dinner?"

"You're letting me pick?"

"When I take a girl on a date, I like to let her pick some of it."

"How about that diner by the theatre?"

"You mean, Momma's Kitchen?"

"Yup."

He drives me and as soon as we park, we see a car that sort of reminds me of the Delorean from Back to the future and Austin parks the car and we watch as a boy with a redheaded moptop, wearing a graffiti shirt, ripped baggy jeans and sneakers. He's holding the hand of a girl with blonde hair styled like Jennifer Aniston's (before she got her hair cut), dressed in a Spice Girls t-shirt, baggy cheetah print pants, and sneakers. She's wearing a pink bandana with embellishments as a headband.

Austin says,

"Hey, bro!"

The redhead and the blonde girl stop in our direction. In the diner, we are all sitting at a booth waiting for our food to go so we can sneak it into the movie theatre.

"Hey, dude! Ally, this is my home skillet, Dez, and his girlfriend, Carrie. Dez, Carrie, this is Ally."

Dez says,

"Hey, I've heard of you! You're that girl whose dad cuts Austin's hair and who led the protest for the dress code!"

I say,

"Yes, my dad cuts Austin's hair. I did lead the protest because it's the 90's now. Dress codes are always so excluding of women."

Carrie says,

"Adorable and an activist. She's also way nicer and less crazy than she who Dez told me not to mention."

I say,

"Speaking of adorable, I love your Spice Girls shirt, Carrie!"

Carrie says,

"Thank you! I think The Spice Girls are the bomb!"

"My friend Trish and I have been dying for them to release their cassette tapes! You should come over to my house sometime and we can kick it to Spice Girls on my boombox."

I watch as Austin puts his arm around me and I ask Austin,

"What do you like to do in your free time?"

He says,

"When I'm not at school and not at work, I work at Blockbuster, I hang out with Dez and we skateboard and play sports."

Dez says,

"He's like the brother I never had. We also work together at Blockbuster and we get rentals all the time together."

Carrie says,

"My favorite movie is Pretty in pink. I'm proud to be a regular at Blockbuster. It gives me an excuse to see my baby."

They both share a sweet kiss. I say,

"I wish I had an actual job. My only job is sweeping up the hair on my dad's shop floor."

Carrie says,

"My sister works at Guess and they're hiring!"

I say,

"That's awesome! Also, are you and Dez going to the premiere of Pulp Fiction, too?"

He says,

"You bet! That movie is going to da bomb!"

After our food comes in the to-go bags, we head into the theatre and I sit beside Austin, curling up next to him. He hands me my food- I got a grilled cheese sandwich, a salad and a passion fruit punch and he got a cheeseburger, fries and a coca cola. The lights turn off and he whispers,

"Want some of my fries?"

I say,

"Sure."

We start eating and we enjoy the movie. In general, my favorite movies include She's all that, Pretty in Pink and Pretty Woman. Crime is not in my taste, but it doesn't matter. I'm with Austin, on my first date ever, and getting along with him. He deserves so much better than Brooke anyway.

After the movie, Austin and I are sitting in the car in the parking lot. He asks,

"Did you enjoy the movie, Ally?"

I say,

"Yes, I did. It was all that and a bag of chips for a movie that's not really in my taste."

He leans in and I ask,

"OMG! Are you about to plant one on me?"

He says,

"Yes. Is that OK with you?"

I smile.

"Of course. Let's spark some electricity!"

We kiss passionately and I'm feeling some type of way. Austin takes his leather jacket and polo shirt off and I unsnap my overalls, letting the straps of my overalls drape down my back. I take off my crop top, revealing my bra and we continue to neck very passionately.

"I never had this with Brooke,"

He says.

I laugh and I say,

"Continue to kiss me, Austin."

We continue to kiss and he says,

"You know, I'd say you're all that and a bag of chips, but you're so much better than that!"

I say,

"This is the best date I've ever been on."

He says,

"I'd like to keep taking you out on more!"

I put my top back on and put my overalls back on and he drives me home.

"Thanks for going on that date with me, Ally."

"Thank you for asking me out, Austin. I had a lot of fun."

We kiss on the lips once again and he kisses my hand and I get out of the car and go back in the house.
