Authors Notes: So this was an idea I had a while back after watching the movies for only Merlin knows how many times. I understand that McGonagall is the DADA professor at this point, and while I could just go out into insane theorem on that tangent, I wanted to make it interesting.

Why does she force Harry out of the way and decide to fight Snape (even though he didn't really fight back did he?) in the Great Hall during the Deathly Hallows? Some say it was due to her wanting to get revenge for Dumbledore, others say it had more to do with it was her position to do as the main presence there, and so forth.

Anyway…. I wanted to throw in my own one-shot of an idea as to why this happened. I never quite understood it really. I mean you have little Filius Flitwick a former dueling champion I bet he could had wiped the floor with Snape easily for one thing.

I know some of you are going to say this is just stupid or not worth a read and well I agree with you, but this plot bunny has been bothering me for too long. Oh and just a heads up I will be paraphrasing what was said from the books/movies cause I don't really feel like looking it all up so don't hate me too much for that lol.

Hogwarts Monarch Reinstated (HMR Edition)

"It is your fault that Headmaster Dumbledore is no longer here! You dare stand on the ground that the greatest testament to the modern era has ever witnessed? You, the murderer and reason that darkness now lies before us all in these hallowed halls! How dare you! How dare you Snape!" shouted Harry angrily as his adrenaline began pumping more and more the tears attempting to escape being squashed by the righteous anger that was bubbling up within him.

Severus Snape stood there coldly as he had been since his last orders staying quiet, atop the perch he now had come to be adjusted to. It never quite felt right to him, but it had been where he had been placed for a reason. He wasn't going to let a mere boy either much up where he was now. He had famed glory, put a stopper on death, and at last had a position he could be truly proud of. He wasn't going to have it stripped away by the kiln of his past.

Just as he was about to make the snide expected remark that everyone around would had foreseen the chance was pushed aside, literally, as the most dimmable thing occurred next. His DADA professor and the formidable transfiguration master Professor McGonagall got the boy to step to the side. Her eyes glowed with a determination he had not seen in her for the past year or more. Her wand quickly came up in a threatening manner her voice short of any voice as her actions spoke everything.

The duel was short, enjoyable no doubt, but short. Her prowess was of course expected and great for her age. She, a master in her own field instead though attempted to face Severus Snape a true duelist and powerful warlock to a head on duel. His wand snapped upwards as he first reflected the first pitiful attempt at subjection.

This silly continuance didn't end for a good five minutes and he was quickly growing bored with the old bird before him. Damm her to hell though she was making his double agent side become even more so troublesome. He already had been able to deflect a couple of minor spells that she had cast at him towards the Carrow twins who now laid unconscious off to his side. With them out of the picture he hadn't worry as much, but it was still too many people here that could destroy the reputation and double agent alias he had created.

Having enough he levitated himself expertly off the ground and broke what most silly fools would have thought was unbreakable glass as if it was paper. He quickly escaped as he felt the school dismantle his control of her to the new monarch of Hogwarts. For there can only be one truly in control of the Castle of Hogwarts. A secret not many ever find out and only the headmasters of the past would ever truly know about on any scale as all records of such knowledge had long since been destroyed by his predecessors intentionally.

Now back in the Great Hall of Hogwarts the new monarch took a steady breath as she felt the wards and the power that Hogwarts granted all new leaders descend into her old bones. A small crevice of a small overtook her for a moment as she realized just what she had done successfully or as she so foolishly thought at least. No, for she no matter of her prowess in her mastery field she was no true match for somebody such as Severus Snape. But, no matter of the reason she did make him to flee which resulted in the change of leadership.

As the group around her began overwhelming her with questions of concern asking if she was alright all she could do was numbly nod that she was alright and that she didn't need medical attention. The power she had just received hummed within her and was a warmth she had never truly felt. Her mind sidetracked she didn't catch Harry Potters inquiry as to what they should do. It took him asking it a second time before she caught enough of what was said to respond accordingly.

She told Harry to take control of the situation as she had something she had to "take control of the school." The fool would never know the difference or the truth. The school was already under her control now. As she turned the corner outside the Great Hall she checked the air around her and actually could feel the possibility of her being able to apparate as such within the school. She gleefully did just that right to the new Headmistress office.

The painting of all the old headmasters seemed to come alive as they all in their own native tongues and dialects welcomed the new leader and rulers of Hogwarts to her station. She brushed past the many voices still congratulating her and went and stood by the giant painting of the prior Headmaster Dumbledore and glared up at him. "You never told me, why"

It wasn't a question of ignorance or even one of defiance, not it was more of one of being heartbroken and kept in the dark. Dumbledore stared down at her for but only a moment before popping a lemon drop into his mouth before stating calmly that it wasn't his right to share for it was knowledge that only the true ruler would ever learn.

Perhaps it was the Scottish in her or just her personality, but the comment she was going to remark with next never occurred as she felt the Gargoyle statue informing her of the new arrivals in the corridor. She fluttered her eyes at such a possibility with magic and wasn't even sure how to respond to the statue, but she hoped it knew to let the person up the steps.

However, it worked, it must had worked as she soon heard the knocks of Harry Potter as he came in briskly afterwards requesting if he could borrow the penseive…
