God, another story... I am bad at updating stories and for that I deeply apologize. Sometimes we have busy schedules. Other times we feel like lazy bums that don't feel like anything. I suffer from the latter. But anyways, new story. Yay? But as you will soon read this is an AU. The major change being that our favorite Devil is now a... she! I've gotten hooked into the anime and let me tell you, it is such a wonderful piece of art. The outro is one of the best I've heard. Hands down. Go give it a watch, it's called Veil. Anyways on with the story. Fire Force doesn't belong to me, it belongs to its wonderful creators.

She could hear the soft noise of birds chirping in the distance. The familiar weight of the blanket wrapped around her neck cemented her place in the memory. She blinked as the sun got into her eyes. A small smile adorned her lips
'Look mom, I'm a hero'
Laughter brought warmth to her body as she grinned at the beautiful woman in front of her. Her mother sat in front of her with a warm smile on her face. A small bundle lay in her arms.
'I'll be the best hero there is. To keep you and Shō safe'
She remembered grinning at her mother's response, warmth pooling into her chest. It was one of the last few memories in her mind that she could actually remember with vivid detail. The rest had been lost as she grew and overshadowed by the traumatic experience she'd had...
She blinked and suddenly she was back at the train station platform. She could hear the noise of a train incoming. Hers had just left a few moments ago but she still stood on the platform. Unmoving and staring at the tracks. She had a feeling deep in her gut that told her something bad was going to happened. Her blood red eyes shone softly in the dull lighting and she blinked as traincars flew past her.
The wind blew past her, ruffling her clothes and running through her short hair. 'What was that all about' Shinra thought to herself as she stared at the quickly disappearing train. Her question was almost instantly answered as a burning train car slowly came to a stop at the end of the platform. She stood unmoving and a small smile slowly creeped onto her face against her will.
'Shit. An Infernal. What should I do?' Shinra asked herself.
Sweat slowly built up on her forehead as more smoke came out of the burning train car. The sound of sirens finally made her take action.
'I'll hold it off while the Force gets here' she thought to herself.
Just then the door to the cabin burst open and fire blew out in an intense wave of heat. A loud screech filled the air that made Shinra's grin a little wider. A huge fire monster stepped out of the ruined train car. It's hands crushed the frame of where the door used to be as it glanced around. Looking to cause as much distruction as possible.
It's empty sockets turned its gaze to her and it let out a terrifying screech which left her ears buzzing. Shinra swallowed her fear and took a step forward, her socks and shoes immediately disintegrating as flames engulfed her feet from the knee down.
Just as she was about to take a step forward a large gloved hand stopped her. The sirens were louder now and two more figures appeared.
"Take a step back civilian. We got this covered." The voice was gruff and deep. She couldn't see whoever it was behind the metal mask but Shinra knew this was a man.
"Sir, I think this might be-". Another voice tried to say.
"I don't care. Get her out of here." The man pushed her back roughly and Shinra almost stumbled on her own feet. Damn that man was strong.
The man turned to her and gave her a once over. His eyes shined briefly with recognition enhanced behind his glasses. He turned back to gaze at the battle ahead of them.
"You better stand back kid, we'll talk to you when we finish." He gave her an even harder push that sent her sprawling to the floor.
Her cheeks reddened in anger and her mouth opened to retort when the man with the mask turned her way.
"Sister. Start the prayer."
Shinra turned to look at another figure standing to her right. It seemed like she had missed her when the main Force had arrived.
The girl seemed young, somewhere in between her mid teens it seemed. Golden hair spilled out of the cowl she wore. She raised her hands and put them in position. With her hands 'tented' she spoke loud and clear as the battle raged on in front of them.
Two of the Fire Force fighters ran towards the monster. The man held a large steel shield in his arm as he ran. Shinra didn't want to know how heavy that thing was but the man seemed to run with it just fine.
"Firing Extinguishing Grenade."
The man that had pushed her held a large launcher in his hands. The thing hissed and grumbled as it threw out a small canister than flew at the Infernal.
The Infernal screeched as the foam coated its body. It screeched even louder as it burned bright and released a blast of fire that made the foam burn off.
It turned its eyes towards the two rapidly approaching fire fighters. Its fire flared up for a second before it released a large volley of flames towards the two figures.
Shinra held her breath as her grin grew to uncomfortable levels. Sweat pooled on her chin and slowly dripped onto her skirt. She quickly stood up, ignoring the cold fear gripping her chest. She needed to help. She had to be a hero. She had promised...
A large boom quickly brought her attention to the battle. A figure stood in front of the flames and quickly snuffed them out. Their eyes glowed a violet color. This gave the man with the shield a chance to make it to the Infernal.
Time seemed to slow as he finally reached the thing. His shield touched the chest of the Infernal and time stood still for a second. Shinra's breath stuck in her throat at the sight before a large boom forced it out. The end of the man's shield exploded outwards and pierced the core of the Infernal.
"Látom"
She heard the phrase from the man and she heard it being softly muttered by the sister besides her.
"Wow," Shinra breathed, "that was some nice teamwork."
The group was making its way to, who Shinra believed was the Captain, and gave the man a soft clap on the shoulder.
The girl in the nun clothing stood off to the side with a smile on her face. Her face glowed with happiness and her eyes seemed to shimmer. Shinra quickly turned her gaze away, her cheeks heating up just a small bit.
A noise quickly brought her attention back to the Nun. It sounded like...wires snapping. Shinra's blood red eyes quickly glanced at the light just only hanging on to a couple of wires. She acted without a second thought. Her feet lit up in flames and a small booms sounded behind her as she blasted off to the girl.
The snapping of the wires brought everyone's attention to the light box slowing descending onto the blonde girl.
"Iris, watch out!" Someone yelled.
Shinra quickly picked up speed and reached the Nun, Iris, and picked her up. The girl let out a noise of surprise as she as she was swept off her feet. Shinra quickly stopped the flames and slid to a stop a couple of feet away from where Iris had been standing.
"Hey there, you gotta be more careful." Shinra forced out a grin.
The girl gave her a wide eyed stare, her deep blue eyes gazed at her with gratitude as she whispered out a thanks. A soft blush adorned her cheeks as she was placed onto her feet.
"Don't mention it, it's what heroes do right?" Shinra gave her a nervous grin as she scratched the back of her head.
"Ah, I take it this is the new recruit?"
Shinra's attention was diverted from the blonde girl in front of her to the man in front of her. Now that he had his mask off Shinra could clearly see his face.
A seemingly young man stood in front of her. His small brown eyes took a glance at her before looking down at the floor.
"Hmm, strange abilities you got there kid."
The man returned his gaze to her face before giving her a wide smile.
"Akitaru Ōbi, i'll be your captain for the foreseeable future. Welcome to the team."
Shinra returned his introduction with a formal salute.
"Shinra Kusakabe, i'll be your Third-Generation soldier sir."
The man chuckled at her formality and waved her off, "No need for the sir, just call me Akitaru. Now I'm sure we can get to know each other on the way back to the station. We'll let the firefighters take it from here."
Shinra nodded and fell into step with the rest of Fire Force 8. A soft smile spread over her lips.
'I did it mom. I joined the Fire Force. Now I'll be able to become a hero...just like I promised'

Now as y'all probably saw I didn't copy down exactly everything from the anime, which is the only thing I've seen . I'm trying to mold this story in my own image. Keep the basic plot of the story going but adding twists and turns to my leisure. I didn't come here to rewrite the script of the anime. If y'all want that go and...watch the anime.
