This is an AU Story. The timeline is altered. All of the characters are older. The plot takes place after season 4.
I have often wondered why, in practically all fanfic stories Andy is always 15 and Mike is 11. This is my attempt at showing them as more mature.

Chapter One ~ And so it begins...
"I'm perfectly capable of taking care of myself!" Jess Harper exclaimed to a skeptical Slim Sherman. "Yeah, I know that, Jess" Slim replied. The two men were sitting on the favorite place at their ranch – their front porch. "Well, all I'm 'gonna do is deliver the horses, send the money home and have some time in the big open."
Slim stretched out his long legs and took a swig out off his coffee cup. "The only thing is, is that you'll be gone over a month and there's still the fact that the weather is still something to think about. Just 'cause it's spring here, doesn't mean that the ground is hard enough for horses."
Jess pondered Slim's words. "But Slim…"
Slim shook his head warningly, "I still don't…"
Jess stared at him for a long moment. "I just…"
"Be careful and come home in one piece ok?!"
"Heck, I'll be home before you know it."
Little did Jess know but he wouldn't be seeing Slim or the rest of his family for a long 3 years.
