The relationship between these two is that they are friendly rivals and good friends. They both believe that saving lives is more important than beating the bad guy. They also believe that being a hero is more than just a job, but a responsibility. They are competitive towards one another, but in a positive way. But, due to Eikichi losing all he cared about, he is suffering through depression and starts to lose interest in things and Rui tries hard to cheer him up. These two live together in an apartment that Rui's dad rented for the boys in Mustafu, Japan.
