Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2.5
Plot in chronological order:
Ego impregnated a Spartaxian woman, heir to the throne. While Ego was gone, she fell for J'son, who, unbeknownst to her is tasked with delivering the child back to Ego after learning about her celestial potential from Ego and acknowledging Ego's blackmail (not destroying Spartax). J'son instead prepares his whole army to fight Ego; enraged by J'son's betrayal, Ego nearly destroys the planet, resulting in heavy losses. Ego murders J'son's wife but is transported to Maveth by the Monolith. J'son closes the portal and the Monolith disappears mysteriously, luckily, Ego never returns. J'son raises the baby as his own, turning her into a weapon to justify any future threat from Ego. Years later, the Guardians of the Galaxy are tasked with returning the fabled Monolith to Xandar but are nearly killed by the group of scavengers whom they acquire it from. Star-Lord is poisoned and the Guardians go to the nearest habitable planet, which happens to be Spartax. When they get there, the ship is seized and everyone is put to trial until J'son pardons them simply for being the Guardians of the Galaxy. As they (especially Star-Lord to Victoria) get closer to the king and Victoria, they start to become suspicious of the secrets J'son keeps. They pull up files on J'son and learn the truth and are almost stopped by the guards before Star-Lord shows the hologram records to Victoria - crushed by the truth, she helps the Guardians steal the Monolith. Rocket has alterior motives to steal back the Monolith as we learn that the scavenger leader used to work on Half-World and transported the love of his life, Lylla, and other sentient animals to be carbonfrozen for later use. However, Lylla wasn't in that compound but was actually transported to Maveth through the Monolith. Rocket successfully opens the Monolith and goes after Lylla. However, the Monolith disappears and the Guardians are recaptured; and angry J'son demands to know where it went (it ends up hovering over Spartax) [Below is what happens next]
Chapter dedicated to Rocket's search for Lylla...
Rocket stole Quill's Zune and has Lylla listen to Superstar while on Maveth
Blackjack O'Hare: "You said we were in this together!" He bellowed as he kicked Rocket in the stomach. His voice reminded Rocket of Nebula's hollow cybernetic voice if it was mixed with a brooding Australian dialect. "You said we'd get off that God-forsaken rock together!" He grabbed the rodent by the fur of his neck and slammed him back down into the dust. He sunk low in a crouch, speaking in Rocket's face now. "You promised you'd come back for me...but instead, you chose love. You chose to save her, and for what?" Blackjack paused, then sighed. "They ripped me apart...limb after limb...and for years I waited...and hoped...but I guess your own word means nothing to you. What more could I expect from an honorless rat like you?" Blackjack spat. "Well I guess you were right all along, there really ain't nothing like you...except you."
Lylla: "Jack, don't do this!"
Blackjack: "Don't worry, sweetheart, I'm only returning a favor. Think of it as an eternity of spending quality time together, just like you wanted, ay Rocky?... Lucky you!" He said sarcastically, turning around only once to say: "of and... speaking of luck...call me Blackjack." He said as he set a course for Spartax then zoomed out into deep space.
Rocket and Lylla escape through another portal miraculously created and join the battle. They fall out of the sky over Spartax. Rocket ends up piloting the Milano and Lylla picks out Bad Reputation by Joan Jett, to which Rocket says "Perfect." Rocket shoots down crazy at the Spartaxians like a madman, laughing as he did. Then an armada of Spartaxian pilots attack him. The Nova Corps and Ravagers aid the Guardians against the Spartaxian army and the Scavengers. Victoria and Star-Lord tale down J'son (but he reveals himself to be a Celestial [but not like Ego, possesses superhuman strength and agility]?). Victoria takes the throne of Spartax and Lylla and many others are given a proper funeral service as heroes of Spartax.
