It's been a while since I wrote a Naruto Fanfic. So I'm back with Kakashi x OC. Hope anyone don't mind~
Summary : Conception of connexion between two individual still remained outlandish for her. It was already hard for her to even grasp the entire concept of emotion, and to understand love was even harder for her.
Azure height was clear this morning with a few thin veiling of clouds in sight.
Early this morning, Reune strolling across the village's busier parts, walking past the variety of stalls and townsfolk. Tomorrow was Naruto and Hinata's wedding reception then, and the streets of Konoha filled with the pinkish hue of sakura petals, along with other lively colors. Smiles adorned every face she passed by, along with waves of laughter she heard from her surroundings. The festive of eternal spring was radiantly present; everyone was happy that day, but she.
Few petals have adhered in her black-purple locks, which she paid no mind. Maintaining her rigid expression, she let her feet guiding her to the Hokage's office. Her visit was not without a reason; otherwise, she hadn't had her own opinion concerning the set of duty The Sixth had set for tomorrow.
As she opened the door, the creaking sound nearly causing the inhabitant of the office to flinch. Unmistakably, no one was able to foretell her sudden advent, although she knew that it was part of her fault for not knocking before entering. Acknowledging her, Shizune immediately offered a bit of privacy for them, leaving them both with a cup of tea. It was only the both of them in the room then; that they were able to voice their thoughts without any hindrance. Sitting before her was the Hokage, his silver hair reflecting the warm ray of sun illuminated through the opened window. His eyes though most seemed bored, now gazing at her with suchlike interest-something that she once found when she caught him staring at Hanare. His Hokage robe was hanging lazily on the backrest behind, exposing him in his black shirt beneath an ordinary shinobi vest. It was seemingly natural to see this picturesque of grace, although it was contrasting with his modest attitude in his customary life.
Not going to delay any further, he began, "It was rare for you to visit me. Without a notice, on top of that. Is there anything you need, Rune-chan?"
Her voice was flat and showing no urgency, despite coming abruptly, "Referring to the allotment of the shinobi who will go on duty and attending the wedding, I have a proposal."
"Proposal?" He raised an eyebrow, "Interesting. What is it?"
Reune tilted her head sideways, something that she did when she voiced her opinion, "I had been considering this matter personally, and after a while, I opted to do the patrolling duty tomorrow."
If Reune hadn't known him for years, she might not be able to notice the slight gap of his lips; the mask concealed his face decent that it was hard to observe. After a moment he gradually recovered from the shock, Kakashi cleared his throat in an attempt to repel the awkwardness.
She caught a hint of astonishment hidden within his voice as he asked, "Are you sure? I've already added you to the list of shinobi that will be attending the wedding."
She responded with a single nod, "Yes."
A pause came as his eyes gazing straight at her, studying her. Reune felt as if he was trying to picture something inside his head. It was soon dissolved by a sigh, "What a shame. I thought this would be a rare chance to see you in a dress; rather than in your usual ninja outfit."
Reune hummed and shook her head, "I don't have any; one of many reasons why I can't."
Kakashi leaned his chin atop his hands, "...And choose to perform the patrolling duty? May I have another reasoning why you choose not to go?"
"Sure." She responded with another nod, "I don't see any necessity to attend the wedding. If there are any, I still not going."
Noticing that there was no slight change in the sixth Hokage's expression, Reune knew that her argument didn't faze him ever so slightly. Still, while he didn't see any significant excuse for her not to go, she didn't see any cause to attending the wedding, aside from the fact that Naruto is one of his dearest pupil whom he inevitably took under his wing for years.
Nothing came out of him as an answer, nonetheless. Assuming that he was weighing his decision, Reune closed her eyes. Her head gradually hung down, feeling the scent of green tea permeated in the room, along with the peculiar smell of old paper, and absorbing the solitude-and comfort-that overwhelmed them at the moment.
After a period of serenity, he eventually spoke-his voice sounded defeated as he elaborated, "Very well. I'll place you on duty by tomorrow. I will be expecting your report by evening."
"Of course."
Repeated motion of her feet rebounding to another series of branches, fierce wind brushing over her in a rough touch. Her heterochromia eyes raking through the crevices of the woods accurately, not wanting to miss out on any detail. After encircled the part of her patrol area for a few times already, her mind starting to squandering about, more precisely a day ago.
She lied.
It was true; she doesn't have any dress on display, yet ultimately, one of many reasons she refused to was because she still doesn't understand the mutual feeling such as love. Yet. It was hard simply to comprehend the concept of emotion, and for her, it had become harder to grasp the entire idea of acquiring the connection between two individuals. Naruto and Hinata, Sakura and Sasuke, and Kakashi-with Hanare as his unrequited love, deceiving him by pretending.
Though she couldn't comprehend the cause; the latter example caused that of a slight squeeze within her chest. Assuming that it was effect by the shortage of air, she stopped in one branch, taking a second to breathe. It didn't cease, however; as she discerned that she was in amidst of patrol, she proceeded to continue, ignoring the newform sentiment developing inside.
Finishing another circle of patrol, all that she needed to do is to return to the village. Her heterochromia eyes swept into the woods, ascertaining that nothing goes wrong before deciding to return.
"That includes my duty," Reune closed her report for today, as Kakashi returned to his table soon after attending the wedding. Without a word, his eyes averted to her; closed the last page of her report. Quiescence overtook them as he seemed to take his time to word his thoughts.
"So..." He began, "How do you feel?"
Despite didn't saw it coming, her face remained as stoic facade, "Of what?"
"For not attending the wedding."
She shook her head, "Honestly, I still don't see it was necessary to attend the event."
His retort was quick, " I didn't ask about your opinion. I asked about your feelings."
Reune felt a spark running through her veins, noticing the sharp remark. He often asks about what she felt about almost anything, but this time, she hadn't envisioned this upcoming conversation. Staring at his dark orbs, she braced herself for anything yet to come.
"Fine... I think."
Kakashi sighed, "That's not a response that I need, given that you ended your sentence with I think."
-How observant, Reune thought silently. That is one of many reasons why he appointed as a Hokage at such a young age.
"Kuukyo Rene." His eyes glinted sharply, "Despite being so logical-and distanced, which appear from how you addressed other people-I assume that you are always using your head in any situation involving emotion."
The sound of the drawn chair heard as he stood up, marching over her.
"And now, let me enlighten you about this subject. Not as a Hokage, but as a mere teacher."
Reune noticed his height had towering over as he halted a mere inch. His eyes turned softer as his hand reaching for hers, grasping it firmly before guiding it to his chest. Reune closed her eyes, feeling that of the tap of his rapid heartbeat from beneath his suit. Strangely enough, the warmth of his hand stirred her heart awake, evoking the unusual feeling she never knew before. She never knew; it was amusing to feel a thousand butterflies fluttering inside her stomach, or a shiver running down her spine.
Simply because a single touch, that was able to turn her hollowness to that of warmth. And it was able to put a faint smile on her otherwise rigid visage.
"Emotions are not supposed to be analyzed with a logical explanation. It was mean to feel with your heart." As if it was coming from the innermost places, she vaguely heard Kakashi's voice gradually pulled her from her trance, "And I see that you are now, smiling. Is there anything that makes you feel this happy?"
This prompted Reune to open her eyes and looked at him. Her smile dissolved as she regarded their intertwining hands, "I assume it began from this."
"I see." The Hokage hummed. His grip tightened ever so slightly as he continued, "And to tell you the truth, I have been feeling the same."
"So, the butterflies have been fluttering about in your stomach as well." She heard Kakashi chuckling upon her words, "Do you know what is this emotion called?"
His answer was simple, "You might know soon. For now, let's focus on something behind that closed door."
Obediently, she tilted her head as she focused her attention on the entrance. Admittedly, there are familiar noises she acknowledged adequately, enacting her to press her lips in the thin line.
"Shizune, Umino, and Yamato... They are eavesdropping, aren't they?"
