Wolf's Tale Chapter 1: The Beacon of Vale.
Wolf had finally arrived at the docks for Beacon's airships 4 hours early. Instead of waiting at a nearby store Wolf decided to finally get some sleep after staying up for 48 hours to make sure he got from his village to the station. After ensuring he was in sight of the security cameras, he stretched out on a bench using his backpack as a pillow. As he began to fall asleep, he started thinking about Katia, about missing her, about saving her. He knew the true reason he wouldn't sleep before was he didn't want the nightmares. They always were the same. Katia being shot in the head except the blood and brain matter would always hit his face. Adam would always seem to force him deeper in the blood and gore. Within 30 minutes Wolf was already awake and checking his bags. While checking the bag he noticed a female wolf faunus that looked exactly like him minus the blind eye and silver and black hair, she had tan skin, a bit more muscular then him, and was wearing cowboy boots, jeans, a western style dress shirt, a fringe jacket, green bandana, and had a black poncho over it. He wanted to go over and ask her what her name was, but he didn't. He didn't want her to thank of him as a creep. However, she walked over to him and sat beside him. She was the first one to speak.
"So, someone else is early huh?" She asked inquisitively. "I've been hanging out at the shops for the past hour or so. To be fair, I arrived yesterday and stayed in the hotel."
"I'm Wolf Shinigami," Wolf started, "And I didn't realize that hotels were open after that White Fang rally."
"Well, I'm Wolve Shinigami and I threw out some rowdy White Fang so as a thanks they let me stay."
"So, we share a last name huh? That's odd." Wolf muttered, however before he could say anything more, he saw that more future students were arriving. He just nodded to Wolve and walked off into the crowd with a mental note to find her later. He didn't have anything against her, he just hated crowds. Walking into them to get out seemed like a bad tactic however it showed whoever paid attention would leave him alone later. Wolf would've talked but he knew all the attention would've been on how he got his scar or why a faunus thought he could be a hunter with the White Fang running rampant. Wolf finally found a corner where he could duck away from everyone.
After a while Wolf finally was able to get on the Airship to Beacon. Finding a seat Wolf sat in it and used his backpack as a pillow after getting a folder Katia had left him. Looking at it for a few moments he admired the Ivory and Black on the folder. As he opened it, he looked at pictures of a younger Katia with himself. He smiled slightly at the pictures of her holding him, him snuggling her, and her taking him around the village. He almost started crying until he heard a TV kick on for a news update, "Unrest deepens as hunt for the leaders of the white Fang grow with many faunus seeing it as nothing more than humans being paid by the like of the Schnee Dust Company and The Brothers of Man a terrorist group responsible for slaying faunus."
"We're not criminals! We're fighting for our brothers and sisters who have slaved away in the mines and died!"
"We will take vengeance on The Brothers of Man for the slaying of our friends and family!"
"The Virel attack was unfortunate but we don't have enough information to say conclusively that it was the White Fang, more likely it was based disguised as the White Fang to spread panic. We would never harm villagers out of the blue like that."
Wolf turned away because hearing members of the White Fang advocate for freedom after murdering his mother and causing him all this anger and pain. They had maimed him all in the name of freedom. HIM?! A FELLOW FAUNUS ALL TO MAKE A STATEMENT THAT THEY WILL FIGHT? THE NERVE OF THE WHITE FANG TO ATTACK HIS VILLAGE, MAIM HIM, AND CLAIM IT IN THE NAME OF FREEDOM! Before he could stop himself, he made his opinion known.
"Screw the White Fang! They attacked my village! They took my eye! To make this statement about freedom?! Screw them to Hell!" Wolf heard everyone go silent at his outburst. Then some stayed silent, some patted his back, and some just walked away. Wolf himself walked away after growling. He heard some human students talking amongst themselves about how Wolf sounded half crazed and was probably insane. Wolf just hmphed and turned away to find somewhere else to hang out not feeling anyone could understand his hate for the White Fang. As he got back in his corner, he watched two girls who wore discussing something quite loudly. Something about Bee's knees and normal girls with normal knees. At least until they had a guy about to vomit run past them. Wolf simply just rolled his eyes as Beacon came into view. Instead of reacting like most people looking and oohing and ahhing he simple grabbed his backpack and waited for the landing which was about to come up momentarily. Wolf walked down and shielded his eye from the light. Being cooped up where you didn't get sunlight for a few hours really makes a difference. As he was walking, he heard a familiar voice behind him.
"Hey there!" Wolve said coming up behind him, "You and I need to have a talk."
"Talk about what exactly?" Wolf asked almost sounding bored.
"You had an outburst against the White Fang, that's not a good thing if they have people who will report back to them on possible enemies at Beacon," Wolve started, "Saying something like that could paint a target on you."
"Like I give a fuck about the White Fang. I'd kill them all if I could." Wolf said shutting his eyes.
"Well they have helped Faunus some." Wolve tried to argue.
"Oh, how exactly? By making people fear Faunus. By attacking villages and huntsman. I don't think so. They're criminals and terrorists who should be dealt with." Wolf said walking with Wolve to the main building they were told to go to for Ozpin's speech. "Anyway, let's just listen to Ozpin talk," then Wolf silently grumbled at standing in a crowd. As he looked at the person beside him the first thing, he took in was the difference in height. Wolf was 5'11" and this girl was 5'5", she was a fox faunus and was wearing running shoes, a t shirt, jacket, and some leggings, she had pale skin, long orange hair, and Wolf noticed she had a slim but muscular figure so she didn't look like a push over. Wolf shrugged because he couldn't care less about what she was wearing and turned his focus back onto Headmaster Ozpin who was starting to speak.
As Ozpin stepped up to the microphone he started talking, "I'll... keep this brief. You have traveled here today in search of knowledge, to hone your craft and acquire new skills, and when you have finished, you plan to dedicate your life to the protection of the people. But I look amongst you, and all I see is wasted energy, in need of purpose, direction." The students started whispering among themselves. "You assume knowledge will free you of this, but your time at this school will prove that knowledge can only carry you so far. It is up to you to take the first step." With that said he walked off the stage and Glynda Goodwitch walked up to the stage.
"You will gather in the ballroom tonight; tomorrow, your initiation begins. Be ready. You are dismissed." Goodwitch said then summarily walked to join Ozpin at wherever he went.
"Well I'll see you around tomorrow at the initiation, Wolf" Wolve said walking off.
The Fox faunus bumped into Wolf and squeaked an apology, "S-sorry I didn't realize you were there." She said.
"It's fine, I'm Wolf Shinigami, you?" Wolf asked.
"A-Amber Reid," Amber said to Wolf looking down at the ground.
"Well Amber you wanna hang out while we wait?" Wolf asked.
"Sure, but at 5 I have to go to Goodwitch to have my new armor forged since my last outfit isn't wearable anymore," Amber said looking at Wolf.
That night Wolf was wearing black pajama pants and a black tank top. Wolf hadn't seen anymore of Amber after she had left or of Wolve after she had walked off. Now he was watching how people interacted until he saw an argument start. He saw the two girls arguing about knees earlier along with a White-haired girl and a Black-haired girl. Seeing them argue he almost had to chuckle because they would never work at all as a team. He then turned his mind to his initiation and how teams could possibly be put together. He figured Wolve and Amber would be cool to have as teammates. As the lights turned out his faunus night vision kicked in and he could see that Amber was good at blending in as she had made her place around some other guys and Wolve was drinking some hot tea. Wolf laid down and for the first time in days got some real sleep. He started dreaming of his village again however this time he shot the guy who executed Katia before he could shoot her, he sliced away all the white fang members with his semblance before facing down Adam Taurus and beheading him after a hard fought victory. The dream seemed like dreams he had when younger of saving villages from monsters and bandits. Wolf had always wanted to be a hero. Now he just wanted the Fang to pay in blood for the pain they caused him.
As Wolf woke up the morning before initiation, he trudged to cafeteria to get something to eat, no use to fight on an empty stomach after all. As Wolf ate his egg white and bacon sandwich, he took time to look at the possible future students. As some wore armor, cloaks, or even specially made clothing. Despite changing his clothing Wolf was still wearing his black combat boots, black jeans, black t shirt, and black jean jacket. He didn't have much change between his outfits at all. As he drank some hot tea, he made he joined Amber who had on scale mail armor and green clothing under it. She looked at him and gave a grin. "So, this is your armor?" Wolf asked Amber.
"Yup, just finished forging it last night. Full scale mail with cloth and leather under it minus my boots and gloves!" Amber practically shouted excitedly.
Wolf heard footsteps behind him and turned to see Wolve and a coyote faunus behind her. "New armor huh Amber?" The coyote faunus said.
"Yes Zam, what'd you do? Get caught trying to pit pocket people?" Amber asked Zam with a smirk.
"You think you're funny Amber?" Zam growled at her before walking off.
Before anyone could say anything more, they heard the intercom system kick on and heard Glynda Goodwitch's voice through it, "Would all first-year students please report to Beacon Cliff for initiation? Again, all first-year students report to Beacon Cliff immediately." Every hopeful first started walking to the cliffs then. Amber, Wolve, and Wolf walked together watching some nervous people almost trip over themselves as they got ready. As they grabbed their weapons that from their lockers on their way to breakfast, they didn't have to waste time going there first. As they went to the cliffs, they saw a bunch of pads. No one spoke until Ozpin started talking.
"For years, you have trained to become warriors, and today, your abilities will be evaluated in the Emerald Forest." Ozpin looked monotone so Wolf couldn't tell what he was thinking.
Glynda then picked up where Ozpin left off, "Now, I'm sure many of you have heard rumors about the assignment of "teams." Well, allow us to put an end to your confusion. Each of you will be given teammates... today." Well that was a no brainer to Wolf. What were they going to do? Wait a few days.
"What? Ohhh…" Whined a girl in a red cloak.
Ozpin then continued again, "These teammates will be with you for the rest of your time here at Beacon. So, it is in your best interest to be paired with someone with whom you can work well."
Again, the Red Cloaked Girl groaned, and Wolf fought an urge to yell at her to shut up. Meanwhile a ginger in white and pink turned to a black-haired boy and gave a triumphant look, "See? Told you."
Ozpin continued, "After you've partnered up, make your way to the northern end of the forest. You will meet opposition along the way. Do not hesitate to destroy everything in your path... or you will die." Almost everyone grinned at that. Wolf just nodded along getting the point of it. Well maybe not everyone. Some blonde boy gave a nervous chuckle then gulped. "You will be monitored and graded through the duration of your initiation, but our instructors will not intervene. You will find an abandoned temple at the end of the path containing several relics. Each pair must choose one and return to the top of the cliff. We will regard that item, as well as your standing, and grade you appropriately. Are there any questions?"
The blonde boy raised his hand and asked "Yeah, um, sir?"
"Good! Now, take your positions," Ozpin said. Wolf stood there making fists, Wolve bent her knees getting a lasso ready, Amber prepared her spear, and Zam uncoiled her whip.
Blonde boy still had his hand raised and missed the White-Haired girl being launched. "Uh, sir? I've got, um... a question. So, this landing... strategy thing... Uh, wha-what is it? You're, like, dropping us off or something?"
Ozpin took a sip of his coffee, "No, You, will be falling." Amber then was launched followed by Zam then Wolve.
Blonde boy then said the dumbest thing Wolf ever heard, "Oh, uh, I see... So, like, did you hand out parachutes for us?" A few more people were launched.
"No. You will be using your own "landing strategy." Ozpin said taking yet another sip of coffee. Jaune just looked a little downcast not saying anything as red cloak girls and blonde with a long mane of hair were launched.
Blonde boy then looked up, "So, what exactly is a landing strategYYY!..." as he was launched.
Wolf gave Ozpin and Glynda a two fingered salute and grinned as he was launched.
