Chapter 1

Okaaaay… so here's to new beginnings. Hope you guys like it.

Two years ago...

"Patient number 132 escaped. Lock all doors and close the gates!", one of the men in white shouted into his communication device. His voice was heard over the sirens that echoed through the white walls, "Elsa, you know what will happen when we get you. I don't think you want that. You are here for your own good, you were sent here because we want to help you not be the monster they fear you are."

I almost gave up, they taught me that I was a monster sent here to help, that I would be killed by the public out of fear, but they tortured me, did nothing close to helping me... "I'm leaving and I will do anything to do that." I began to run down the hall leaving the shouting voices behind me. Another set of guards block my path, "Please move I don't want to hurt you." I should've said that with more confidence.

The masked people pulled out their weapons, long staffs with electrical currents buzzing loudly, "No we don't want to hurt you, number 132." They dropped their tasers when icicles impaled their bodies, lifting them up and their blood dripping down the ice.

It was so wrong but after everything they done to me, I couldn't help but admit it felt good.

My satisfaction was short lived asI heard boots surrounding me. They took aim, I pleaded, "Please let me go."

"You know we can't do that. Shock her."

They all moved towards me backing me to corner. I couldn't go like this, I promised I would get out of this god awful place...

I covered their tasers with ice, clenching my fist, shattering them to pieces. They had no weapons. I had nothing to fear anymore. With everything I had I blew all of them back, when this flood of power escaped me, it was anger, no longer the fear that I had lived with for the past fourteen years. I smiled at my success like a crazy person, "Fuck you all!" I ran out the exit with the sound of the alarm fading as I left the building of my childhood behind.

I finally arrived to my new apartment, my seventh maybe eighth if I count. When I got out of my car, the smell of weed and alcohol overwhelmed my senses, those scents together is not too pleasant. I shook off the foul smell and went inside my room with high hopes…. and wasn't much better. The walls had water stains, the kitchen was filthy, and the bathroom was horrendous. I'd need more than a few candles to fix this place up.

"No wonder this was a cheap price," I mumbled to myself, who has been my friend for the past couple years. I've only had one or two when I was little which I barely remember, I'm not even sure if they were real memories. Since my escape it has alway been me, myself, and I. It wasn't always that way, I remember having a home and a family, but after what I have been through I'm not sure if any of that is true.

I went back outside to grab the rest of my bags, I have five things all together. Two bags of clothes, one bag for my necessities, which include, toothbrush, hair supplies, and etcetera. An air mattress and a box full of some of my valuables. I would always try to decorate my living space and make it more alive, but each time I feel like I'm done, I have to move again. I could never have the luxury of happiness or content, that is what I have learned while I hid from my captors for the past two long years. But maybe I'd buy some paint and those candles, I thought to myself.

Once I placed my stuff on the floor and pumped up my air bed and plopped down on it stretching and feeling all my bones snap, crackle, and pop. My eyelids began to feel heavy and it wasn't going to be long until I sleep. I took a deep breath and closed them.

A growl came from my stomach startling me a tiny bit. I haven't ate since yesterday. I needed to get something to eat, so I pulled out my laptop, which was recently bought. So I guess I have one or two pieces of luxury and it's WIFI which thank the gods was provided by the shitty apartment complex and began to look up nearby food places. One drew my attention, Ruby's Diner, it was the closest. Plus anything would be better than fast food until I get a fridge.

It was about a five minute drive and when I walked inside to be welcomed by the delicious smell of burgers and coffee. I was immediately escorted to a small booth in the corner, isolated, just the way I like it. The surroundings was nice, it looked like a fifties malt shop, with a jukebox, black and white tile floors and the color red everywhere. I look at the waitresses and they have the classic look, but one in particular stood out.

She had auburn, red hair that stood out in the sea of brunettes, I wasn't able to her eyes very well from this angle but they looked green. She was laughing and talking with all the customers. The girl seemed as if she had no problems at all with the world, just so happy and warm.

Oh she's coming this way. I felt as if something caught in my throat, she walked with such poise- nevermind she just tripped over her own feet. She dusted herself off and came to my table.

"Hi um I'm Anna I'll be your waitress for tonight, any drinks to start off with, gorgeous?" Her eyes grew wide and turned a deep shade of red, "I am so sorry, I didn't mean to say that out loud. I-I tend to do that when I'm nervous."

My mouth turned up at the corners, it felt nice to smile. "It's okay."

She blushed and crossed her arms over her chest, and chuckling nervously, "No I need to work on my social skills, everyone tells me that… so um what would you like to drink?" She asked, uncrossing her arms.

As if, if anyone needed to work on social skills it would be me, "Hot chocolate." Point proven I couldn't even form more than two words.

She nodded and went to grab my order. I barely had time to look at the menu before she came back with the hot drink, damn was she fast.

"One hot chocolate. Have you decided what you'd like to eat or would you like a few more minutes?"

"I'll have uh…" I quickly scan through the menu, panicking I order the daily special. I had no idea what the fuck it was but its special enough to not be and Anna smiled as she wrote it down.

"Comin' right up," Anna said smiling.

Of course I had to embarrass myself… to bad I can't take communication classes because shit I need help.

I stared at it a bit more until I finally reached out and took it. I looked at the red haired girl, she was on the other side of the diner now wiping tables down and still talking to her customers. This was my chance and I cooled the drink down with my hands by frosting the cup. Now it was warm enough not to burn when I drink it. I think it was the best I have ever had. It might have just been because she made it. Don't even get me started on the grilled cheese, which was the special… 'cause it was damn well the best I've ever had.

Anna smiled and walked back over, "Hi how is It?"

"This is really good, thank you." Good job, Elsa for using more than two syllables.

"Great, don't forget to give us a five star Yelp then." Anna winked.

I chuckled… and blushed, "I'll definitely do that. I'll also mention that Anna it the best waitress here."

"Really?" She asked. I nodded smiling at her. "You have just made my day. How about some pie? Uh on the house?"

"Pie sounds great," What she didn't know was she made my day too.

I finished the pie and she definitely made my first day here amazing. I left her a very generous tip for giving me a free slice of apple pie and for making me genuinely happy for the first time in forever. When I got back to the apartment, I immediately posted a five star review and put exactly that.
