Holo chicas! This is a little drabble that I initially wrote for Late Night Chats but removed because it dampened the mood. I hope you like!
Marinette and Adrien were content with their lives. Their wedding had been magnificent and one of the most popular events in France that year. They became somewhat celebrities for about a year, Tom and Sabine's bakery getting more and more popular. Eventually, their fame died down a bit and they decided to start having children.
When Marinette was 23, she had Emma, who was an exact carbon copy of Adrien, much to his delight. Marinette had gotten tired of how much Adrien claimed that she would be exactly like her father and when she started showing his traits, Marinette almost had an aneurysm. She couldn't deny how adorable it was to see him play with their baby girl, though. Plagg had become extremely protective of her too and had an enormous argument with Marinette when she had told the mischievous 4 year old off for a disastrous prank she had pulled. Emma had Adrien's love of pranks and jokes and Marinette's love of baking. Marinette was convinced she would be a heartbreaker when she grew up.
Then Hugo came along when Marinette was 25. They hadn't planned on having him but their chemistry was so intense that they could barely keep their hands off each other most of the time. Hugo was a combination of his parents - dark blue hair and green eyes. He was the biggest nerd of all their children, top of his class and in love with animes. Adrien claimed Hugo was more like him but their third child proved that he was also extremely talented at video games, which was obviously from his mother. Like Adrien, Hugo struggled with his self-worth a lot and Marinette and Adrien showed a lot of love to him from a young age. Both Plagg and Tikki spent a lot of time with him, especially since Marinette was becoming more and more popular in the fashion industry.
Finally, Louis was born when Marinette was 28. He was a carbon copy of Marinette, with vivid blue eyes and dark blue hair. Marinette used this against Adrien many times, saying there were two of their children with her hair and therefore, she was the more powerful parent. Adrien had shut her up with a kiss swiftly after that. Louis seemed to have Marinette's talent for designing and Adrien's love for romantics. He and Tikki spent a lot of time together, watching rom-coms and eating cookies. He also spent the most time trying to transform into Ladybug after Plagg had 'accidently' let out the words needed to become the bug themed superhero.
All in all, the Agreste family was pretty complete. Then, a day Marinette was dreading came along. Emma, 7 at the time, had come home from school after a lesson on family trees. "Maman," she had asked curiously. "How come I only have 2 grandparents when most of my friends have 4? I know Nana Sabine and Papa Tom are your parents but what about Daddy's parents?" Marinette had sat her daughter down and explained that Daddy's parents were somewhere else and she didn't need to worry about them.
Later that night, she explained the situation to her husband. "I just feel like they deserve to know about your past. Our past!" she had explained.
Adrien had only shrugged and murmured, "If you think it's right then one day, when they're older, we can take them to see Gabriel." He had been found hiding in Vietnam and was promptly arrested. He was then sent back to Paris and put in prison there for threatening the safety of Parisians on many occasions.
So that's how Marinette found herself here, in their car, driving to the La Santé Prison. Emma was 15, Hugo was 13 and Louis was 10 and Marinette thought this was an appropriate age for them to learn. The kids were arguing at the back and Adrien was silent. Sliding her hand over his fist Marinette murmured, "If you're not comfortable with this, we can turn back."
Adrien unclenched his hand and turned it over so they were holding hands. "No," he let out a weary sigh. "You're right. Our children deserve to know." He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it softly, shooting her a grateful smile. Adrien found it unbelievable that even after having three children and spending 20 years together, he could still make his wife blush from him kissing her hand.
Not long after, they pulled up at the prison. When Louis saw the building, he asked loudly, "Why are we at a prison? Are you going to jail, Dad?"
Adrien chuckled and replied, "No, Louis. There's someone you guys need to meet."
"Is he a criminal?" Hugo piped.
"No," Emma answered. "He's our grandfather, isn't he, Dad?" Adrien gulped and nodded. Emma walked up to the entrance without another word and Hugo followed, looking back to see if Adrien was okay.
Louis grabbed Adrien's hand and asked tentatively, "Is he going to hurt us, Dad?"
"Never."
Inside, the receptionist pointed them to the room they had to go to and Marinette squeezed Adrien's hand protectively. When they got there, Adrien was shocked by the sight of his father. His face was sunken and pale and his once tan skin was pasty and seemed unhealthy. At the sight of his son, Gabriel tried to stand but fell from the shock. Emma was staring on, emotionless. "A-Adrien?" Gabriel's croaked out. "What are you doing here?"
"Hello, father," Adrien muttered. "I brought my children here because they deserve to know who their grandfather is, even if he's a criminal."
Gabriel's pale blue eyes drifted over to Emma and he gasped disbelievingly. "Emilie? It can't be…"
"My name is Emma," the girl in question spoke fiercely.
"You look exactly like-,"
Emma interrupted, "My grandmother, I know. Your wife that you couldn't protect."
"Emma!" Hugo scolded.
"It's true, isn't it," Gabriel murmured woefully. "Failed as a husband, failed as a father, failed as a human."
"Why are you in prison?" Louis burst out.
Gabriel sighed and began, "Emilie and I found two miraculous- They do know what miraculous are, right?"
Marinette rolled her eyes and muttered, "Yes. I guess now is as good a time to tell you that Adrien and I are Ladybug and Chat Noir."
Gabriel gaped but continued explaining. "We found two miraculous, the peacock and the butterfly. Emilie decided to have the peacock and began using it to help people in Paris. Unfortunately, it was broken and caused her to be sick. She eventually went into a coma from using it too much. I… wanted to bring her back with the power of the two most powerful miraculous : life and destruction."
"You used your power in the wrong way and akumatized innocent people in Paris, endangering thousands, including your son," Hugo continued.
"Ladybug and Chat Noir defeated you and you went into hiding for 5 years," Emma finished. Adrien and Marinette looked incredulously at their children, completely oblivious to the fact that their 2 oldest children may have searched up their last name. It wasn't as if they weren't famous.
"Do you regret it?" Emma asked tentatively.
"Yes," Gabriel instantly replied. "Every day. If I could go back, I would be the father Adrien never had."
"Well you can't," Marinette retorted.
Adrien added, "You hurt me so much. It's taken me so long to process how I feel about you but with the help of my amazing wife," he looked gratefully to Marintte and murmured, "I forgive you." His gaze went back to the man in front of him and his gaze hardened. "But that doesn't mean you'll ever get to see my children or my wife again. You had your chance and you blew it."
"T-thank you, son," Gabriel sadly replied.
"Come on, kids. Let's go," Marinette called out and put her arms around her sons. "Emma?"
She turned around to see Emma standing in front of Gabriel, staring at him. Adrien stood not so far behind her. "You made a big mistake, Gabriel," she said softly.
"I know. I wish I could've been a better person," he whispered.
"Me too," Emma sadly murmured. Adrien slung his arm around his daughter and led her out of the prison. "Dad?"
"Yes, sweetie?"
"I don't ever want to see him again."
"Don't worry. You never will."
PS - Stay home and stay safe
