Alternate Tokyo Ghoul Timeline
Fanfic / Lemon
Ein Licht In Der Dunkelheit (A light in the darkness)
Disclaimer: I do not own Tokyo Ghoul, Tokyo Ghoul: Re, or any of their characters.
Premise: Instead of Mado killing Ryouko, she is saved by a new ghoul, named Shoma. He gets her and Hinami away from the doves to a safer place (his place). Overtime, Shoma and Ryuoko fall in love with each other and create their own family and live off in another ward - while keeping close ties with Antekui.
The story is viewed in universal viewpoints. It contains the thoughts and switches perspectives of the main duo (Ryouko and Shoma), Hinami, and Kaneki.
Chapter 1 – Sunburst
Main point
1. Briefly recaps moments prior to Ryouko and Hinami getting caught by the doves. Only this time, Shoma, a new ghoul, watches this all unfold. Ultimately, the chapter ends on Shoma saving Ryouko.
Final Rough Draft Points
The sunlight is suddenly blocked by the clouds hovering over the streets of Tokyo. In an instant, it burst, and rain pours down on Tokyo. Filling the metropolis are men, women, and children going about their day. But as this social routine seems normal, hidden work is among these dark corners. In recent events of Rize's binge eating and the steel beam incident, the CCG have been more active in the 20th ward.
One particular individual, Shoma, is walking toward an art museum nearby a book store to browse collectibles (he loves art). He owns a small business and obtained his business degree from Kamii University and his graduate degree in management. Shoma is tall for an average man, and is slightly built and lean. His jet black hair flows and tucks gently over his ears. He has sea green eyes and thick eye brows that make his smooth vanilla skin gimmer. While everyone around him knows him as "Section", he is no ordinary man. He is hard working and a man of few words, and let his actions speak for himself. Shoma holds scars on his heart, both emotionally and physically. He tries his best to live in the present, and not get caught up in the past. What helps him the most are his business and his love for art. Even with how successful he is, Shoma can't get back what he lost. Because of this, he finds that he intentionally isolates himself from his closest friends and coworkers. It's all I can do at this point, he thinks to himself.
One block in front of him, Ryouko and Hinami walk out of the bookstore.
"Wow! You're right, it is raining!" The little girl said.
"See? Does this mean you'll believe me next time?" Ryouko glady responsed.
"Yeah! Mom, do you know what this is?"
"It's rain."
"No, a sudden storm like this has a special name."
"I didn't know that" said Ryouko curiously.
"Uh-huh! It's called a cloudburst. But don't worry, they don't last very long…at least that's what Kaneki told me." Hinami stated.
"Goodness, he sure is smart isn't he?"
"Mm-hmm. You think Daddy knows what a cloudburst is?"
"We'll have to ask him when we see him!"
Hinami eyes widened and her smile grew.
"It'll be so cool if I knew something that he didn't! That'd make me super smart! Huh?" She said
"It would indeed!" Ryouko claimed
Meanwhile, Kaneki walked out of Anteku. He stretched out his hand and felt the rain pour on his skin. Automatically he pulled an umbrella and walked down the street, parallel to Ryouko and Hinami. By this time, Shoma was occupied suppressing his mind from running until his senses snap him out of his thoughts. His emerald eyes gaze at what knocked him out of his thoughts. Walking by is a beautiful woman in her mid-thirties. Accompany her is her daughter holding a bag with books, cheerfully strolling by and humming in front of her.
Immediately he notices that they are no ordinary civilians. He senses that they are like him…ghouls. Living among humans as if they were one of them, or at least that's what their kind generally puts it. Mentally Shoma absorbs all of their visual images to his head. The woman has chocolate brown hair that is tied and ends towards the left side of her shoulder. She wore a pale dress and a yellow sweater. Her daughter inherited her mother's hair and mirrored her outfit. She seemed innocent and very happy at the moment; most likely because she just got some books.
It reminded Shoma of…
No, he told himself, ordering his thoughts to cease. Ryouko looks his way as she sensed him as well. It was quite obvious that neither of them had ill intentions. Shoma gave the woman and her daughter a soft, warm smile. Gladly, the woman returned the genuine greeting.
Not many times does Shoma get to interact with ghouls peacefully outside of his small business and the family that he has, or had. After passing them and they were out of his peripherals, he feels a cold chill down his spine. He silently prays that they will live a peaceful life, maybe on day he'll get to see them again.
As Hinami begins to dance as she walks, Ryouko, curious at her child's enthusiasm, finally asks her.
"What's gotten into you silly girl?" She said cheerfully.
"It's been a long time since we've gone out Momma!" Hinami said as she closed her eyes and spread her arms out like a bird.
Ryouko extended her umbrella forward and softly smiled.
"Stay under the umbrella, or else you'll get wet."
Suddenly, Ryouko notices a couple of men in suits that held up images towards people. Immediately, she grabbed Hinami and started speed walking in the opposite direction.
"Com'on, we have to go home" Ryouko ordered in a passive agressive tone.
Hinami, now drained of her carefree mood, ask,
"But why?"
Ryouko doesn't answer, and instead the speed walking turns into a mini run with Hinami in the opposite direction.
"I thought that we were going to go to the other place, Momma?" Hinami protest.
No respone.
The two men in suits look their way and nod silently to each other. One of them flips open his cell phone and the duo lightly pursue the two suspects.
While Shoma is still walking on that same street, he then notices the same woman and her daughter now speed walking in front of him, as if they were in a hurry.
Hmph?! He thinks to himself.
The moment he looks behind himself, he noticed two men in suits pursing them, passing right by him.
The Doves! Shit!
Shoma froze and was hit with a dark flashback. He knows that this situation is none of his business. He could just act like nothing happened. He's not a hero, and doesn't think of himself as one. But seeing those two happy like that, just moments before – Please live you too!
And with a new found will he calmly pursues the doves. He doesn't know what he going to do, but he has to do something.
Where's the father? Can they shake them off their trail? He thinks, cursing under his breathe. Shoma's blood boils as he starts to walk faster, taking in the situation.
She's a woman with her child, what are they going to do? Kill her in the middle of the street?
Shoma bit his lip at that thought.
Actually it might not be so out of character for those pigs anyway.
At the same time, Ryouko slowed down and switched their speed and a power walk.
"Is something wrong?" Hinami ask, now a bit scared seeing the stress and anxiety in her mother's face.
Ryouko faces Hinami and tries to smile.
"No dear, there's just something that I need to do," She said.
While all of this is going on, the men in suits are still in hot pursuit, who is now being secretly trailed by a small business owner. Meanwhile Kaneki is strolling by on the opposite end of the street.
Suddenly, Hinami's sense is hit with a strong, familiar sensation.
"Uh" She utters, slowly stopping, almost undoing her grip on her mother.
Ryouko turns and faces her.
"Why did you stop?"
Hinami smiles softly and takes a deep breathe through her nose as the clouds depart, revealing the blinding sunlight.
"I smell Daddy!" She proclaims.
"Huh?" Ryouko said in shock
"That's his scent!" Hinami's voice rises in joy. "He's gotta be somewhere nearby!"
"no way…" Ryouko whispers to herself
"He came to get us, Momma!" Hinami says as she begins to runs back in the opposite direction, undoing her firm grip on her mother's hand.
"Hinami!" Ryouko screams in fear.
"Com'on, he's this way!" Hinami states running as she lets her senses guide her.
"No! You come back here right now!" Ryouko calls back in vain.
"It's Daddy!" Hinami's pace moving faster and faster
"Wait! Hinami!" Ryouko cries, as she maneuvers past people beside her.
"Mmmm...Where is he?!"
"No! Stop!" Ryouko says bumping into a person. "Hinami!"
"It's Daddy! It's him I know it!"
"Hinami!" Ryouko cries, now in a dead sprint, completely discarding her umbrella.
Hinami is now panting from her running and finds that her senses led her to a dark alley.
"I've missed you so much!..." She comes to a dead stop, after realizing the content of her destination.
"You're not, my Daddy…" Hinami says in disappointment
Staring her down are First Class Investigator, Mado and Second Class Investigator, Amon. Both equipped with briefcases and dressed in clean suits, holding their umbrellas.
"Hinami!" Ryouko says catching up to her daughter.
Then fear stop her in her tracks before she could even touch Hinami.
"Momma…t-that's his scent…" She quivers.
One of the investigators elevates his umbrella in order to reveal his face.
"Don't you just love the rain?" He ask cruely
"Although I have to admit I'm glad it's not raining any harder than this. Why you ask?" Mado says but immediately answers his own question, "Because it dulls ghouls senses, so you wouldn't have been able to pick up his scent!" He states darkly.
By this time, the other two investigators caught up with the four of them, preparing their weapons, and cornering Hinami and Ryouko. Slowly, they close in on them.
"I don't suppose that I can have a moment of your time, Mrs. Fueguchi?" Mado mocks, staring her down with nothing but malice in his eyes.
Hinami starts to tremble in fear, but Ryouko firmly put her hand on her shoulder. Smiling softly at her as she always does.
Hinami looks up in agony.
"Momma…I'm scared…"
Ryouko looks toward Mado and gives him a brave stare.
She then closes her eyes and suddenly, a golden kagune in the shape of a butterfly sprouts out of her back.
"Oh…" Mado acknowledges
Then the kagune lunges at Mado and Amon, forcing them to retreat further in the alley while it then started to form a shield separating the investigators between herself and her daughter.
Ryouko, now surrounded by her kagune, kneels down to Hinami, wiping away the tears from her eyes, and softly stroking her hair.
"Run, dear" Ryouko whipers.
"Run fast" Closing her eyes with a smile.
Hinami could barely speak
"But Momma…no" she weakly protests back
"Don't be scared, just go to Anteku and I'll meet you there. You don't have to worry - I promise I'll be right behind you."
"Momma… I can't" Hinami starts to break down. Tightly hugging her mother.
"I want to stay here with you!"
Ryouko stays silent and hugs back, softly rubbing against her child. Then she burst her eyes open, revealing her kakugan.
She dismembers her shield and the two investigators that previously tracked them attempt to take the advantage.
"Now Cusama! Use your Q bullets!" One of them shouts
"Uh…Right!"
They open fire on her kagune.
It's no use.
In one swing Ryouko's kagune drops both of them to the ground, stunning and disarming them.
"HURRY! GO!" Ryouko demands starting at Hinami with bright red and black eyes from activating her kakugans.
At first Hinami can only stare back at her, I've never seen Momma like this, she tells herself. Once again, Hinami breaks the strong grip of her mother, but now crying in despair and running blindly away from the alley and back in the streets, passing the disarmed investigators. At the same time, Shoma catches up to the alley, and sees Hinami fleeing from the scene. He stays back near a corner and assesses the situation. None of them seemed to have noticed him.
"Hold it!" One of them shouts back at the girl. But to no avail.
Ryouko looks back hopelessly at her daughter until she's out of sight, knowing very well could be the last time she will hold her daughter.
"Was that little display meant to toggle at my heart strings? Cus it made me sick!" The sadistic investigator mocks snapping Ryouko out of her thoughts.
Facing him, she gives him a disgusted look.
"Just leave us alone!" She demands.
Now standing up she prepares to face the four investigators all by herself.
Switching back to the perspective of Hinami, she is aimlessly running through the blocks, bumping past people, begging for someone, anyone to help her.
"Kaneki! Touka!" Hinami cries.
As she continues to run she drops her books, and gets up and continues, leaving them on the street.
Now more reckless in her path, she bumps into another woman, falling to the ground.
Finally, Kaneki notices something on the other side of the street and looks and sees Hinami on her knees. Struggling to get back up, she gives one final cry.
"MOMMA!"
Kaneki then calls out to her.
"Hinami!"
She then opens her eyes and looks around and identifies him.
At this point Kaneki makes a dangerous sprint through the road to Hinami, as cars stop dead in their tracks to not hit him.
When he reaches her, Kaneki puts his hands on her shoulder, "Calm down! What's the ma-"
"It's Momma! You gotta help her!"
Shocked, he then asks "What? Where is she?"
Hinami points back to the alley and Kaneki takes her hand.
"Let's go!" He says, both of them sprinting back to the alley.
Meanwhile, Ryouko is facing off against Mado and Amon, while Shoma watches her secretly, still assessing what to do.
"It looks like someone isn't use to fighting. That kagune's potential is wasted on the widow here." Mado claims, and Ryouko grits her teeth, remaining silent.
Widow?, Shoma repeats to himself.
He balls his hands into a fist until they turn white. Now he realized why the father wasn't there. She had lost her spouse, her husband to these, these pigs.
Bastard! Yelling inside of himself
His back bubbles as his kagune forms slowly pushing against his clothes.
"Dear old mother lays down her life for the sake of her child. That right? You're a noble waste of flesh! Makes my skin crawl! Watching ghouls mimick human behavior is like bad theater. It's almost funny somehow!" Mado proclaims
Shoma closes his eyes, attempting to reject what he just heard.
What am I doing? I don't even know what I'm getting into, Says Kaneki and Shoma, as they think the same thoughts.
"Hey Amon, you can sit this one out. Allow me to take care of the rest." Mado start to open his briefcase.
Do I take her to her mother, or do I get her to safety? Kaneki thinks while running.
Should I found out if her child is okay, or do I do something to help her here? Shoma thinks while gritting his teeth and keeping his kagune from exploding and exposing his element of surprise.
Suddenly, Ryouko faces turns pale in shock and disbelief.
"No way…is that…no…it can't be…!" She weakly cries to herself
Mado unravels his brand new weapon, revealing a skeleton spine like kynke that mirrors the golden and red colors of Ryouko's kagune.
He demonically chuckles.
"OH YES! IT CAN!" He boasts.
"My husband…" Ryouko begins to wep.
At that moment, a chill went down Shoma's spine. His kakugan activates and is a moment away from decapitating the investigator
That's going too far!
"Bingo! That's the expression that I wanted to see. A harmony of terror, hatred, and despair. O, How I love that look I can't get enough of it I want more!"
Hinami and Kaneki finally reach their destination.
"Momma-"
Shoma snaps his head to the voice and sees the daughter accompanied by a young man with a sky blue hoodie.
He silently thanks God that she's okay and has someone to protect her. He's so angry that he didn't even sense their presence as they were running to the alley.
Simultaneously, Kaneki holds her back while also placing a hand over her mouth.
"We can't let them find us!" He tries to whisper reason to her but Hinami isn't having it, fighting back against his arm.
Kaneki and Hinami haven't notice the man yet on the opposite end of the alley.
This was a a bad idea, how am I suppose to help her? Kaneki protests.
"Still I'm not above curtesy. How about it Mom any last words for us?"
Ryouko remains silent with her head down
No…
"What's the matter? There's no reason to hold back?"
She then lifts her head, and softly smiles with as her mouth opens to say something but remains mute. Her eyes are shut and a tear streams down from one of them.
No!
"TIMES U-!"
"NO!"
The alley went silent.
In an instant, Mado's arm is severeled right then and there, his weapon and arm flying into the air. Once it falls back down to Earth, it drops with a thud.
The Second Class Investigator didn't even have time to reactive.
"Mr. Mado!" Amon yells in denial.
Kaneki is stunned, because he covered Hinami's eyes, to shield her from what was going to happened, or what should have happened. But is now slowly peeling his hand back, looking in disbelief.
Hinami now opens her tear full eyes but hope washes her spirit from despair.
Her mother is…alive
In tears – trembling, but very much alive. As Ryouko slowly opens her eyes, and sees a man standing before her. She gasped, recognizing the man while deactivating her kagune. His mask already on so the doves can't identify him.
Shoma's kagune is a three tailed stone styled cut brimming with a dark blue galactic aura. One of his tails was cut off midway by absorbing the impact. A streak of blood streams down his head.
"Like the woman said," Shoma calmly replies.
"Leave them alone."
