Disclaimer: Coraline and all its characters rightfully belong to Laika studios and Neil Gaiman, and I am supportive of their rights. I am writing this for fun only because ever since quarantine, I have nothing else better to do.
Coraline Jones is a very stubborn girl in many ways. For one, she always gets in trouble for letting her curiously get the best of her. Two, she disobeys and annoys her parents half the time she's around them. And three, because she couldn't stay put, she almost lost everything dear to her.
It has been a year since her horrid encounter with the dreaded Beldam, and ever since then, she has been having nightmares almost every night. They are vivid and feel very real, making her parents put her in therapy. Therapy, however, so far hasn't helped, because everyone she knows, apart from her friend Wybie, thinks she is crazy.
She currently lies on her stomach in her parents' garden in the pink palace, taking a break from helping them garden by drinking strawberry lemonade and talking to Wybie. The other members of the pink palace are there too, all having another "Boring" garden party; Coraline hated gardening.
Coraline puts on her yellow rain boots and takes Wybie inside, so they can watch cartoons and cool off. As soon as they go inside, however, they talk about the Beldam and the other world.
"Do you think we're safe?" Wybie asked.
"We'll never be safe," Coraline replied.
Right at that moment, they see a green moving van pull up to their house; they glance at it for quite a while in wonder,
Who's moving in, they think.
Behind the moving van, they see a car filled with a girl with wavy- dark hair, two brilliant green eyes, and crooked teeth.
"Coraline, Wybie, come here!" yells Coraline's mother.
Coraline and Wybie run rapidly, feeling the cold wind on their faces.
"Who's she?" Coraline asks.
"Children, meet Mandy, she's new to the pink palace and will stay in the attic next to Mr. Bobinksy," Coraline's mother answers.
"Hi Mandy," Coraline says, "I'm Coraline, Coraline Jones and this is Why were you born,"
"Hey!" says Wybie shyly, but Coraline continues snickering.
"Hi, Coraline and Why were you born, it's a pleasure to meet you," says Mandy.
"Well, you can come and help us garden, while your parents unpack," Coraline says.
"Ok, sounds good," she says.
Coraline feels the need to bring the door up, but she's afraid Mandy won't believe her, so instead, she says nothing at all. And both of them play and laugh, with no knowledge that they are not alone, a great evil is watching.
