Emily sat anxiously waiting with her best friend Dylan to be seen by a doctor. Dylan had injured his arm during a football game, and he was also nervous. He needed to make sure that he was fit for the upcoming playoffs and hoped that the injury would not be too serious, Dylan needed football to get into college. As they sat there waiting, he noticed Emily was also nervous and checked she was alright.

"Yeah, I'm fine, you know I just have a thing about hospitals, I hate them. Anyway that doesn't matter, I'm here for you" she replied.

Just then Doctor Halstead entered the room and whilst still looking down at Dylan's chart introduced himself. As he looked up there was silence and confusion until Dylan said,

"Halstead?" and looked across to Emily. Emily stared at Will, shocked,

"Will? You're back in Chicago?"

Will could barely recognise his sister; it had been so long since they had seen other or even spoken to each other. In this moment, he was unsure what to say, they had lost contact when he went to New York, when he first moved, they spoken occasionally but they had not spoken at all since their mum died.

Finally, he broke the silence.

"Ummm, yeah, I've been back a couple of years now" he was unsure what else to say so reverted the attention to Dylan and the job at hand. "So, what brings you in here today Mr Holland."

Dylan could feel the awkwardness of the situation and was unsure how to deal with the tension between Will and Emily. He knew a little bit about the relationship between her and her brother but did not bring the full story. He decided just to stick to the medical matter at hand so responded,

"I was playing football and jumped to reach the ball and when I came down, I landed funny on my arm and heard a cracking noise."

Will inspected the injury whilst trying not to look at Emily, she just sat there still not sure how to respond to the situation.

"Looks, like you've got a nasty break, I'll send you up for an X-ray and give you something for the pain and will update you when the X-ray results are back." He looked at Emily and tried to say something but couldn't find the words so left the room.

Emily ran out after him,

"You've been back for two years and didn't think to get in contact. All this time I thought you were still in New York but you've been in the same city as me. I'm your sister. I was upset when Jay left and then you left to go to New York and I was left alone. Even when mum was dying you didn't come back. Why weren't you there? I needed you." By this point she was crying and shouting at Will but he just stood there taking all the words being thrown at him.

Quietly he responded,

"I'm sorry Emily, I really am, I didn't know how to deal with any of it so I just shut myself off from the family, I should have been there, I know that."

Emily was still angry.

"That's not good enough, I get that you were going through your own stuff, but I needed my brothers and both of you left me to deal with it all on my own." She was overwhelmed by all the emotions and had nothing else to say to him so stormed back into the treatment room to be with Dylan.

Will stood there, everyone had heard the commotion and was now staring at him, he quickly made his way to the roof where he went when he needed fresh air and some space to think. Natalie quickly followed behind him to check on him.

"Are you alright Will? Who was that down there?" He took in a deep breath,

"She's my sister"

"I didn't know you had any siblings other than Jay."

"We haven't been in contact in ages, since just after I moved to New York. She's a lot younger than Jay and I. She's only 18. Jay went to war and I went to New York and then we barely spoke after that. I couldn't bring myself to come back when mum got cancer, I didn't want to see her suffering. I should have been there." Will had started to cry and Natalie embraced him and ran her fingers through his ginger hair and tried to calm him down.

Meanwhile, back in the ED, Emily returned to Dylan and he checked if she is okay. "Yeah, I am fine. I just didn't expect to see my brother here or even in this city. Sorry I know I am meant to be here for you, I didn't mean to burst out like that, I just…he should have been there."

"I don't know the full story or your history but you should know that no matter what, I will be here for you and if you want to talk about it I am here and if not, that is fine to. Whatever you need, I'll be there for you."

This made Emily cry even more, she was so thankful for Dylan and all that he had done for her, she know his words were true as in the past, he had been there for her when she had no one else. Part of her just wished that her family would say the same thing to her.

Dylan was taken for his X-ray and so Emily was left alone in the treatment room. She saw Will walk past and decided to go speak to him now that she had calmed down and had sometime to think about everything that was happening.

"Hi Will, I'm sorry about earlier, I just was so overwhelmed and had so much to process."

"It's fine, don't worry about it, I am so sorry too and I know that is not enough to excuse what happened and I will forever be sorry for that. Listen can we just talk, grab a drink later maybe. Not sure if you know but Jay is back in town also, he could come along too."

Emily was faced with yet another surprise, as if this day hadn't given her enough already,

"What? Jay is back too? I mean I guessed he would be back by now; it has been so long since he left but I had no idea he was back in Chicago too. Both of you, such great brothers. Sorry, ummm yeah that would be good I think."

Later that day, Dylan had been discharged from hospital with a broken wrist and with his arm in a cast and sling. Emily had not seen Will much the rest of their time she had been at the hospital, mainly because she had made sure to be out of the room whenever Will came to check on or update Dylan.
