Festival of Hearts
#
"Hey guys," said a girl, "you know the festival of hearts is coming up."
"Oh, I can't wait," another girl replied.
Atem walked down the hall as girls were talking about the festival of hearts which a festival for lovers. He saw no point in the festival or at least he use to think that. Atem opened the door to the classroom and several students went quiet. He was use to this since for some reason he always drew a crowd. He walked into the room and sat down at his desk. Several girls were whispering to each other as they stared at him.
"Hey Atem," said a voice.
He looked up to see Bakura standing there. Atem greeted his friend with a nod. Bakura sat down at the desk in front of his.
"Have any of the girls asked you to the festival," Bakura asked.
"No, they haven't what about you?"
"I've gotten a few but to be honest I don't think that I'll go. I mean it's a festival of lovers after all."
"Yeah,"
Atem knew that his brother and Anzu were going together since they were dating. Atem looked over to see Mana stepping into the room with Anzu. Atem would go to the festival if Mana wanted to go since she was his girlfriend. Atem smiled at the sight of his girlfriend as she was chatting with her usual cheery smile.

"Hey Anzu," said Mana as the two girls were in the bathroom checking themselves in the mirror.
"What is it Mana," Anzu asked.
"What's the festival of hearts?"
"Oh that's right, you just moved here a few months ago."
"Yeah, could you tell me what it is?"
"Well it's a festival," Anzu explained, "a festival of lovers."
"Of lovers?"
"That's right; basically you go with the person you love. There's a lot of things to do but what really draws people there is the lanterns."
"The lanterns?"
"Yep, what you do is that you and your lover light one together and then you hang it on a tree in the center of the festival."
"Why would you do that?"
"Well, it's said that your love will last forever. Basically once you light a lantern then you'll be together forever. I guess you could say that you and your lover are meant to be."
Mean t to be huh?
Atem appeared in Mana's mind. She would love the idea of lighting a lantern together. She knew that their love would last forever. She thought that would be so romantic. She could see could them standing there lighting a lantern together. Mana's heart began to race at the thought. She would of course she would want to go with him.
"We better get going," said Anzu looking at her watch.
"Right," said Mana snapping back to reality.
Anzu giggled knowing what Mana was thinking about. She knew that she could get Atem to go if she asked him to. Atem was wrapped around her finger and couldn't turn her down. He never wanted to make her upset if he could avoid it. They walked down the hall heading to class as they continued their conservation.
"So are you going to the festival with Yugi," Mana asked.
"Of course, we go every year," Anzu explained, "That just means that our love grows stronger with each year."
Mana nodded as she smiled. Anzu opened the door as they reached the classroom. They walked into the classroom talking. Mana smiled and turned to see her boyfriend Atem talking with Bakura. She smiled at the sight of her boyfriend. This could be the best night of her life. Yugi and Jonouchi came into the classroom chatting.
"What's up boys," Anzu called.
"Oh hey there," said Jonouchi.
"Hey girls," said Yugi while smiling.
"Are we going to the festival this year," Anzu asked Yugi.
"Of course," said Yugi.
"You're actually going," Jonouchi asked.
"Of course why wouldn't we," Yugi replied, "we go every year."
"Ah, I was hopin' we could get to do stuff as a group."
"Jonouchi, you do know that this is a big deal for couples right."
"Yeah but I bet ya that Atem won't go since this isn't his kind of thing."
"Jonouchi, don't say that," Anzu snapped, "Atem would go if Mana wants to."
Mana looked over at Atem as he was now talking with Honda and Otogi along with Bakura. She did want to go but not if he didn't want to. She wasn't going to drag him to the festival if he didn't want to go with her. She could go by herself and light a lantern by herself if they would allow her to. She wasn't going to force her boyfriend to do things that he didn't want to do. For her Atem's happiness was everything.

"How many is that now," Otogi asked Bakura.
"I've lost count," Bakura replied.
Otogi, Bakura and Atem were leaning against the wall of the halls watching people walk by. Otogi was checking out the number of girls there were single and was thinking about going with one to the festival. Atem just stood there with his hands in his pockets.
A girl approached Bakura and asked if he wanted to go with her to the festival which he declined. The girl walked away defeated. A girl approached Otogi and asked him to the festival. Otogi figured why not and said that he would.
"You do know that she'll want to light a lantern with you right," Atem pointed out.
"It's just a lantern," said Otogi, "there's nothing special about it."
"That's not how the girls view it," Bakura explained, "They'll think that you love them."
"They really believe that?"
"Anzu does," Atem replied, "and she's pretty practical."
"Okay, I see your point," said Otogi.
Atem smirked at his friend's remark. He looked to see Mana walking down the hall by herself. He stepped away from the wall that he was leaning on. Otogi and Bakura looked at him as he walked toward her. Otogi chuckled once he realized what he was doing.
"Looks like our buddy has plans for the festival,"
"You're surprised about that," Bakura asked, "they are dating after all."
"I know that."

Mana was about to turn the corner when she felt someone wrap their arms around her waist. She looked behind her to see Atem standing there. She smiled at the sight of her boyfriend. She turned around and kissed him which he returned. They pulled away for air.
"Hello love," he said.
"Hey Temmy," she replied, "I was hoping to see you today."
Atem chuckled as he pulled her into another kiss. Mana smiled against his lips before she returned the kiss. They pulled back and she placed her head onto his shoulder.
"Mana, um, I don't know if anyone told you but there is festival that is coming up," he said.
"You're talking about the festival of hears right, Anzu explained it to me."
"I see, well I was hoping that we could go together."
"You want to go with me?'
"Of course love, why wouldn't I? I want us to go together."
"Then I will love to go with you."
"I'm glad to hear it love,"
Mana smiled making his heart race just like every time she smiles. Mana had no idea the effect she had on him. He smirked at her before he chuckled.

Mana was nervous about the festival. She had heard a lot about this festival and how this could affect her relationship with Atem. She looked at herself in the mirror. She made sure that she was cute enough for him. She was hoping that this would go well. She nodded once she was sure that everything was perfect. She heard her brother calling her to let her know that Atem was there. She nodded before doing one final check before heading to the stairs.
Atem was standing in the living room dressed in a black t-shirt with a high raise collar that was folded over that was tucked into dark blue jeans. He was talking with Mahad while they waited for her. When Mana saw him she thought that he looked so handsome. She smiled at him finding it hard to take her eyes off him. Atem looked up to see her standing there in her white sundress and white high heels to match.
He was speechless to say the least. He wanted to throw her against the wall and kiss the life of out her but fought back the urge to. She came down the stairs smiling at him. Atem walked toward her and took her hand in his and kissed her knuckles. Mana smiled at him as he did this. He looked into her eyes letting his love for her show.
"You look lovely, my love," he said making her blush.
Mahad chuckled at them. They walked out the door saying their goodbyes. They walked toward the bus stop that would take them to the festival. Mana wrapped her arms around his as they walked. They got to the bus stop and waited. Mana looked at her boyfriend taking him in. She always found him to be very attractive and couldn't believe that he was hers. Atem kept glancing at her from the corner of his eye.
Mana was looking very beautiful but then again she always looked so beautiful in his option. They stood there for a while until the bus arrived. They climbed onto the bus and found a seat near the exit. They sat down and waited for other passengers to board before the bus pulled away from the stop. Atem stretched his arm over his head before placing it over her shoulders. Mana smiled as he did this. She loved it when he did this.

The whole temple grounds were decorated with lights and booths that sold food while some had games to play. Mana looked around as they walked through the festival. Atem was walking beside her taking notice of several couples that were there. He caught a glance of his brother and Anzu at one of the booths. He wasn't surprised since they've been coming to this festival since they became a couple.
Mana smiled as she noticed the other couples walking around. She glanced over at her boyfriend still smiling. She was glad that they came here together. She couldn't imagine coming here with anyone else. They walked down the path while deciding what they should do first. Mana saw a booth that had game that couples could play together.
"Let's do that one," she said.
Atem looked to see where she was pointing before he nodded. They walked over and Atem placed a few bills onto the counter when they reached the booth. The man in the booth nodded before setting down three rings down onto the counter. Atem handed one to Mana. She nodded and took it before giving it a toss.
The ring was a few inches short before it fell onto the ground. She groaned as this happened. Atem chuckled finding it cute. He grabbed one and placed it into her hands. She looked at him in confusion. Atem walked behind her and grabbed her wrist then adjusted it to an angle where she could get the ring around the small statues that were sitting on the table behind the counter. He gently guided her hand through the motions.
The ring flew into the air before landing on one of the small statues. The man watched as he did the same with the second one. Mana was smiling as he did this. Atem could win this game on his own but he was being a sweet boyfriend for helping her. Atem pointed to the small green rabbit that was hanging just above them. The man nodded and got it down for them. He handed the rabbit to him. Atem thanked him as he took the rabbit and handed it to Mana.
"For you love," he said.
Mana smiled and took the rabbit while placing a kiss on his lips in thanks. He chuckled as she did this before returning the kiss. They walked away and tried several games where Atem of course won them all. Mana smiled as he handed her a large white teddy bear that matched her dress. They walked down the path deciding to get something to eat. They walked toward a booth that sold candy apples. Atem paid for two and handed one to her.
She thanked him as she took hers. Atem smiled as he handed it to her. They continued walking as they ate their candy apples. Atem looked over to see that Mana had some on her face and chuckled before he pulled out a napkin to wipe it off. Mana looked up at him as he did this. He always took good care of her. She looked at his lips finding them so inviting. She leaned forward and captured his lips. He returned the kiss as he wrapped his arms around her pulling her to his chest. She ended up dropping the plush dolls onto the ground as she wrapped her arms around his neck as she slipped her tongue into his mouth.

The sun was setting over the festival and the lanterns were being brought out for people to start lighting. Mana watched as Yugi and Anzu picked up one of them before lighting it. Once the lantern was lit they hanged it onto a large tree in the center of the festival. She watched as they kissed. This seemed to be something that most couples did after hanging their lanterns. Mana looked over to see Atem walking toward the table to grab one.
She smiled as he went to grab one. She walked toward him as he reached for one. She had been looking forward to this all day. She stood at his side as he picked up their lantern. He picked up a match to light the lantern. He handed the lantern to her while he lit the lantern with the match. Mana watched as he lit it while smiling. She didn't really care who lit it; she just wanted to do it with him. Atem smiled at her which she returned.
They walked toward the tree and they hanged up onto one of the lower branches. Mana tried to reach it but she was too short. Atem chuckled and wrapped his arms around her waist to lift her up. Mana looked down at him as he did this. She giggled before tying the lantern to the branch. When she was finished he set her down onto the ground. She turned to face him placing her hands on his chest. They kissed as other couples were hanging their lanterns.
"I love you Mana,"
"I love you too Atem."

They arrived at Mana's house. This was a beautiful night. Mana walked down the sidewalk holding the plush dolls that Atem had won for her while Atem was walking beside her. They reached the front door and Mana turned to face him smiling.
"I had a great time," she said.
"I did as well," he replied, "I'm glad that we could do this."
"Maybe we could do this again next year."
Atem chuckled as he grabbed her free hand. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed her knuckles. He was glad that he got to share this with her. When they met up again after so many years apart from each other; he knew that this was something that he wanted to do with her at his side. This was something he wanted to experience with her.
"I would love that," he said, "I want to show everything that this city has to offer."
"That doesn't matter what we do or what we experience. I just want to have you there with me."
"Always love,"
"Thank you Temmy for this wonderful experience."
"Anything for you love."
They kissed before she went inside. Atem smiled as he watched her walk inside. He was glad that he got to have fun with the girl he loves. He heard his phone go off and reached into his pocket. It was Jonouchi calling him.
"What's up Jonouchi," he said.
"Hey dude ya business tomorrow?"
"No not really what do you want to do?"
"Well, the guys and I decided to go to the beach, just us guys."
"So a guys' day, huh, that sounds good. Sure I'm in and I'll see if Yugi wants to tag along."
"Cool, I tried to get a hold of him but he didn't pick up."
"He and Anzu are out grabbing something to eat on their way home, I'll see if I can't reach him."
"Okay, ya tomorrow dude."
"See you tomorrow."
