Long ago, two Greek men got into a fight. Eventually, it evolved, and the sport of boxing was born. Throughout history, it became more refined. In the mid 20th century, the sport received its greatest change, as a new boxing tournament entered the public airspace. The World Video Boxing Association.
It quickly rose to the highest viewed boxing association in the United States, and then the world. Many challengers approached to become the greatest fighter in the ring. From the likes of Piston Hondo, to Soda Popinski, from Great Tiger, to Mr. Sandman, many fighters have claimed their spots in history.
However, the latest champion is one who nobody could have expected.
A young man from the Bronx, who's shorter than the average man, and who weighs less than everyone else in the Association, rose above the challenge and showed the world what it means to be a champion.
His name is Little Mac.
… or Mac Little, if you prefer to call him by his real name.
At the age of 17, he became the youngest champion of the WVBA's World Circuit, as he took the belt from the undefeated Mr. Sandman. After defending his title, he decided to go out on top, by choosing to continue to fight until he lost three matches. After that, he'd retire.
Eventually, he did. After losing his final match against the champion he took the title of greatest boxer from, Little Mac, at the age of 17, retired. Obviously, he didn't make the journey alone. In his corner was his personal trainer, Jerome "Doc" Lewis, a former heavyweight champion.
Mac thought back on the summary he made of his career, a smile creeping onto his face. He knew his time was over the minute the thrill of boxing was gone. Through all of the promotional materials, sponsorships, and merchandise, he'd be able to live a decent life.
Reaching into a pocket, he pulled out a picture of him and Doc training. They were running around New York. Well, more accurately, Mac was running, while Doc was riding a bike. Doc was in his red tracksuit, while Mac was wearing a classic pink hoodie and sweatpants. The man was like a father figure to the retired champion, so he cherished the memories he had. Looking up, he saw his plane was here. Standing up, the Bruiser from the Bronx got onto his flight, ready for the future that awaited him.
Piston Hondo waited by the airport. His flight should've been here ten minutes ago. He hoped his rival from the ring didn't get cold feet. Looking up, however, he saw the man he trained so hard to beat. Standing at 5"7' and weighing 107 pounds, his rival looked like nothing special. However, behind the black hair and green eyes, laid the soul of a true fighter. Although, he was surprised that the boxer wasn't wearing his boxing gear, or his pink hoodie. Instead, he was wearing a pair of black sweatpants, black boxing shoes and a green t-shirt.
The boxer looked around his surroundings, while also keeping a hand on a nearby wall. Piston walked over to the boxer.
"Good to see you made it, Little Mac," Piston told the champion, who looked up.
"Oh, Piston, you made it. Good to see ya again," Mac responded, raising his fist. The boxer responded by smacking his own fist against that of the champion.
"Your Japanese is coming along well. I'm impressed," Piston told the bruiser, who nodded.
"Yeah, I was studying while Doc trained the new guys on the block," Mac explained.
"Speaking of, where is that chocolate lover at?"
Mac sighed, "Unfortunately, he had to stay behind. Only one of us could make it, so he chose to let me go," he explained. They had opened a boxing gym after he retired. They planned on training up the next generation of fighters, and it kept cash in their pockets.
"I suppose it was to be expected. Well, let's go on ahead," Piston said, as the two began walking into the nearby major city.
As they walked throughout the city, Mac looked with eyes wide. Piston smiled at the young boxer. He remembered that look of wonder he had when he first entered New York. The ringing of a cell phone broke the two out of their tour. Piston took out his phone and answered.
"Hello? Yeah, I'm with Little Mac. Really? Alright, I'll be there soon. Love you too, bye." Mac heard the Japanese boxer tell the other person on the phone. Putting the phone in his pocket, Piston looked at the champion. "I'd hate to do this to you, Mac, but the misses needs me. I hope you can find your way to the hotel by yourself."
"That's fine, Piston, we'll catch up later. Maybe we can have that rematch I promised to," Mac said as he walked away.
"And I'll make sure to win!" He called out as he left into the bigger part of the city.
Mac smiled, shaking his head. He walked around the city, nodding at people who looked at him. Most didn't recognize him, and the ones who did just asked for an autograph, which he happily provided. He didn't have to worry about his luggage, since that was at his apartment already. He began to jog around the city, occasionally throwing a punch or two while he moved. It helped to keep his blood pumping, and was a good way to train. He could probably do a full lap of th-
He stopped on a dime, as he nearly ran over someone. That person raised his arms to defend himself from the boxer. The man he nearly ran into was a couple of years older than him, and he had black hair and green eyes like Mac. He was wearing black sweatpants and a green hoodie with a black shirt underneath. He was obviously taller than Mac. He looked to be bracing for the impact still.
"You okay?" Mac asked, snapping the man out of his stance.
"Huh? O-oh yeah. Didn't expect you to come charging like that. I thought I was gonna get mugged," he answered, scratching the back of his head.
"Yeah, sorry about that, I kinda got lost thinking," he responded, before raising fist to him. "I'm Mac." The man looked at the boxer, before realising what to do. He hit his own fist against the boxer's.
"Naofumi, good to meet you," he said, as the two began to walk. Mac was following Naofumi, but he didn't mind. "You must be new around here," Naofumi told the boxer.
"Yeah, I'm from the States. Came here to visit a friend, but he had some issues he needed to take care of," he explained. "Where're you headed off to?"
"Just to the library to see what they got. You wanna tag along?" Naofumi asked. The boxer gave a nod, and the two entered the nearby building.
It was a fairly sized library. There were a large selection of books available. While Mac wasn't a huge fan of reading, it was at least something he could do while he was here. He couldn't read Japanese that well, so he'd figure he could just hang out with Naofumi.
Speaking of which, Naofumi walked to a section of the library and scanned the books. Nothing seemed to peak his interest, however.
"Man, nothing seems to be any good," he said, reaching for one of the books. However, it caused some to fall off the shelf and hit the young man. "Ow," he said, rubbing his head.
"Shake it off, Naofu-" Mac said, before stopping.
One of the books that fell was a reddish brown book. It looked like a fantasy novel. On the cover, in perfect English, was the title.
"'Record of the Four Cardinal Heroes?'" Mac asked. Naofumi looked down at the boxer, who had a look of confusion.
"I haven't seen this before. Never even heard of it. Let's check it out," Naofumi suggested, while Mac nodded. He took the book and continued to read it. "'In a world that is threatened by the Waves of Catastrophe, four heroes are summoned from different worlds to stop it. Each wield a legendary weapon. A sword, a shield, a spear, and a bow.'" Naofumi read.
Mac was surprised that the man could read English so fluently. He decided not to question it, however.
"Wait, their weapon is a shield? Wouldn't that be more like a piece of armor?" Naofumi asked.
"I know some guys whose defense is insane and they hit like a truck. So, maybe that shield guy can be like that," Mac brought up.
"Well, these guys are probably the protagonists. It seems like a typical isekai light novel," Naofumi brought up. Mac didn't understand what he said near the end. He looked ahead a few pages. They had a drawing of the sword, bow and spear heroes, alongside a bio of sorts. "So they each have a description about them. That's pretty neat," Naofumi said, before turning the next page. In place of the bio for the shield hero, there was nothing. "Wait, did they forget to print out the Shield Hero's par-" he was suddenly cut off when a powerful gust of wind hit the two. Looking down, Mac noticed a glowing symbol had appeared under Naofumi.
"Move it!" The champion yelled, as he shot forward and grabbed the Japanese man. He then jumped back. Instead of landing on solid ground, they ended up in free fall. The two hit the ground hard. Naofumi landed on his back and stayed like that. Mac hit the ground and quickly rolled back up, his fists raised.
They were in a dark room, with the main light coming from a doorway. They were on a large symbol that began to dull. Around them were three others. One was a man taller than Naofumi and with blonde hair in a ponytail, an open red jacket, and a white shirt underneath it. He had a necklace on, auburn eyes, and had brown pants. The most surprising thing was what he had in his hand. It was a long spear, with a white shaft and a red circular crystal in the head of the spear.
The next one was a guy with black hair and blue eyes. He was about Naofumi's height and was wearing a zipped up blue jacket with a black shirt underneath. He had black pants and had a sword in his hand. The hilt was made of a white material, while the blade was either a dark grey or a light black. In between the hilt and blade was another circular crystal. This time, it was blue.
Finally, the third one was a boy with blonde hair and green eyes. He was about Mac's height, and had a green schoolboy's uniform. In his hand was a golden bow, with the circular crystal being in the place where you would put an arrow.
Looking at Naofumi, Mac saw he had a shield made of a light gray material. It had a green crystal in the center of it. Mac quickly looked himself over, but saw no weapons on him.
Looking to the light, he saw about eleven people in front of them. Each had a dark hood and robes, but one had their hood off.
"Brave heroes," he started, "please save our world!"
Mac's eyes widened when he heard this. The man who spoke said it in perfect English. He knelt down and helped Naofumi up to his feet, who had a look of confusion. He looked at his shield, then the other weapons. His eyes widened.
"We refuse."
"No way."
"You take us from our world and expect us to help you. Don't you feel any shame?"
The sword, spear, and bow heroes answer in that order. They all spoke English. Mac and Naofumi looked at them.
"Say we help you and you send us back empty handed. Then all of this was pointless."
"Will you compensate us for our efforts? Depending on your answer, we may become your enemies."
"Yeah"
They said, and again, in the same order.
"Geez, can these guys be even more full of it?" Naofumi asked Mac, who had a glare on them. They reminded him too much of Super Macho Man, who was all about fame, money, and glory.
Wait, Naofumi just spoke in English as well. Mac's mind was running overtime trying to figure out what happened.
"I-I cannot promise anything, but I'm sure the King will be able to provide you with a reward," the robed man said.
"It doesn't matter who we talk to, our demands won't change," the Sword Hero said, raising his blade at them. Mac got into a stance, his fists ready to get to work. He didn't have his boxing tape on, as it was in his pockets, but he could fight bare knuckle. "But, I suppose it will be best to talk to him," he said, lowering his blade. Mac lowered his stance.
"O-of course. Follow me, Great Heroes," the man said, as they made their way to the exit.
The Sword Hero went first, followed by the Spear and Bow Heroes. Naofumi and Mac followed after giving each other a look. As they ascended a staircase, they looked out a window. They felt the clear air hit them, as they saw a large city in front of them. They had a Medieval structure to them.
"Woah," Naofumi said, breathing in the fresh air. Mac looked to the others, who were already ten steps ahead of them.
"We shouldn't lag behind," Mac said in English, catching Naofumi's attention. He nodded before leaving. As they followed the group, Mac felt the same feeling he would have before he was announced to come out to fight.
They entered the throne room, which was a long room with two thrones in front of them. There were knights around them, each with a pike. There was a man sitting on the throne on Mac and the heroes's left. He wore a purple and white robe, with white clothing underneath. He had golden decorations around his neck, alongside a crown with a purple jewel in it. He was old, and had purple eyes and a white beard and mane. The other throne was empty. To man's left was a second man, who wore a black and reddish purple suit. He had grey hair.
"Thank you for coming, brave Cardinal Heroe-" the man with the white hair and crown stopped when he saw Mac. "Who is the young man without a weapon? Why is he here?" He asked.
"He was summoned alongside me, King," Naofumi said. "We were in contact when we got teleported here."
"I see. Well, welcome to my castle. I am King Aultcray Melromarc XXXII, the king of Melromarc. I will explain the situation, but first give me your names," the bearded man said.
The Sword Hero stepped forward. "My name is Ren Amaki, 16 years old, and I'm a high school student."
"I'm Motoyasu Kitamura, I'm 21 and a college student," the Spear Hero said.
"I guess I'm next. I'm Itsuki Kawasumi, I'm 17 and a high school student," the Bow Hero answered, leaving only Mac and Naofumi. Mac gestured for Naofumi to go first.
"I'm Naofumi Iwatani, I'm 20 and a college student," he answered.
Mac stepped forward, "I'm Mac Little. I'm 18 years old," he said. He could hear someone, it sounded like the Spear Hero, snickering. Probably because of his lack of height and last name. "And I'm a former World Champion of the WVBA," he finished, as the laughing was cut short. He heard two gasps. One was from Naofumi, while the other was from Itsuki.
"I see, so Ren, Motoyasu, Itsuki, and Mac, correct?" The king asked. Naofumi raised his hand. "Oh, and Naofumi. Apologies. Now, onto business. My country, and the entire world is headed to the brink of destruction. Ancient prophecies talked of the Waves of Catastrophe, apocalyptic events that could destroy the world. The wave attacked us almost three weeks ago. While our knights were able to hold them off, it will return in one month's time. However, they also spoke of how to combat the waves, and that is where you come in. They spoke of the Four Cardinal Heroes, who have the strength to end the waves once and for all."
The five thought about this information, processing it. Eventually, Ren spoke up.
"I see. You wish for us to fight your war. What's in it for us?" He asked.
"You will be compensated handsomely after every wave. We will also provide you with funding and adventures to aid you on your journey," King Melromarc explained.
"Wait, why can't we travel with each other?" Itsuki asked.
"According to legend, the four weapons cancel each other's growth out," the man to the King's right answered.
"He's right. It's in your status," Ren said. The four looked at him in confusion. He sighed. "It's in the bottom right corner of your vision. Just focus on the icon."
The four looked around, before finding it. Mac narrowed his gaze, and the 'I' icon expanded into a large menu, lowering his peripheral vision. It reminded him of a video game's menu. He quickly scanned his info.

He closed the menu, returning his vision to normal. He'd look at everything later.
"Really, we're only level one?" Itsuki asked.
"I guess even though we spawn in with mythical weapons, we gotta start off at the bottom," Motoyasu responded. The three heroes thought, while Naofumi and Mac gave a glance to each other. It was a look that said, 'We'll help this world ourselves if need be.'
"Alright, we'll help," Itsuki said. The two gave a sigh of relief.
"But don't think for a second you can control us, or make us your pets," Ren finished. Mac sighed out of frustration, rubbing his face.
"Very well. Tonight, we will have a feast in your honor. Tomorrow, we will provide adventurers and some coin to aid you on your journey." At this point, a woman in a dress approached the group.
"Heroes, please follow me," she said, before walking off.
"Sir Mac, could you stay behind for a minute?" The king asked as the group was about to leave.
"I'll catch up, go on ahead," Mac told them, before turning around.
"Do you know why you were summoned alongside the Heroes?" The king asked.
"No sir. All I know was that I tried to pull Naofumi out of what had brought us here. Before I could, though, we were summoned," Mac answered truthfully.
"Hmm. Thank you. Go on and enjoy the feast," he told him, as he walked out of the throne room and followed the group. He was, luckily, not too far behind. He only hoped they had some chocolate.
He loved this country.
After the feast, which had an insane amount of chocolate, Mac and the Heroes were placed in a room where they could get some rest. Currently, Naofumi and Itsuki were sitting on a couch, Motoyasu was sitting in a chair nearby, Ren was standing in a corner, his arms crossed, and Mac was throwing some quick jabs at the air. To Mac, they felt lighter. No, that's not the right word. It was faster, but still as strong. It reminded him of Piston Hondo's Hondo Rush.
"Man, the girls at the party were so cute! And the one who led us to the room wasn't half bad either," Motoyasu said, before noticing Mac. "Yo, Mac. You said you were a champion of something. What did you mean by that?"
Mac stopped throwing his punches. "I was the World Circuit champion of the WVBA. The World Video Boxing Association. It's the most popular boxing association in all of the world. I'm surprised you never heard of it," Mac told him.
"No, from what I've heard, the most popular boxing association is the WBA. The World Boxing Association," Motoyasu said.
"You two are both wrong. It's the UBC, Ultimate Boxing Circuit," Ren said.
"It's definitely the WVBA. I watched it some before I was summoned. Although, I don't recognize you or your name. What was your stage name, Mac?" Itsuki asked. Mac sighed, scratching the back of his head.
"... Little Mac," he said. He didn't exactly choose that name, but the announcer called him that when he first entered the ring, so it kinda stuck. He heard Motoyasu burst out with laughter.
"Are you serious?" Motoyasu asked in between laughs. Mac only nodded.
"The champion was also named Little Mac. But he had blonde hair," Itsuki told him.
"Tell me, did he fight against a Glass Joe, Piston Hondo, or Soda Popinski?" Mac asked.
"Nope."
"Wait, we all have different things that we claim to be the truth," Naofumi said. "This doesn't make sense."
"Well, maybe it could. Remember what that book said. Four heroes are summoned from four different worlds," Mac said, as their eyes widened. "That means…"
"We're from different worlds," Itsuki finished. "I guess it would explain some things. This place is kinda like Dimensional Wave. It's a console game I played before I got sent here. "
"Well, in my world, it's a VRMMO called Brave Star Online. That's how I knew about the status menu," Ren said.
"Well, this is like a MMO I played called Emerald Online." Motoyasu told them. "Well, what about you two?"
"I didn't play many games since I was focused on my boxing career. Naofumi?" Mac asked. He shook his head.
"Never played a game similar to this, sorry," he told them.
"Well, you're a shielder, so let me give you some advice," Motoyasu said, standing up and placing a hand on Naofumi's shoulder. "Well, the shielder, who wields a shield into combat," Motoyasu began, "is the worst class, and only newbies play it."
"Wait, what?" He said, before looking to the others. "Guys?"
"Same here." Ren said.
"Yeah, sorry," Itsuki told him.
"You've gotta be kidding me," Naofumi said. Mac patted his back.
"It's not all bad news. Maybe you got something in your stats," the boxer told him. The Shield Hero opened his status, and looked through it. The look of hope suddenly changed to a look of sadness.
"My attack is 1. What about you guys?" Naofumi asked. They looked away. "Mac?"
"What about your other stats?" He asked.
"My defence is at 50, so at least I can take a few hits," Naofumi said. "Everything else is around the low teens."
"Don't sweat it, Naofumi. All you need is someone with an insane attack skill to compensate for your nearly nonexistent offensive power," Motoyasu said.
"Yeah, you're right!" Naofumi said, jumping up and walking to the nearby window. "I can go on an adventure and maybe find the one," he whispered, closing his eyes. "Alright! Let's take down these Waves!" He shouted out, raising his fist to the night sky.
Itsuki gave a small smile, before standing and raising his fist. "Yeah, let's do it!"
"Let's let our journey begin," Motoyasu said, standing up, "tomorrow, because I'm tired," he finished, falling onto the couch face first. They then heard snoring. Mac chuckled.
"Alright. We should follow Motoyasu's example and get some rest. See ya tomorrow," Mac said, entering one of the two bedrooms. There were two beds each, and his roommate was Naofumi. The Shield Hero fell asleep after climbing into bed, while the boxer stayed up. He decided to check the rest of his status menu, skipping the stats he already read.

MP: Your current magic over your maximum magic. MP is used to call upon your magic affinity to cast spells. You regenerate magic at a rate of 1 MP per hour.
SP: Your current skill points over your maximum skill points. SP is used to activate active skills and is different from magic. You regenerate 10 SP per hour.
EXP: Your current Experience points over the required EXP needed to level up. When you level up, you gain a boost to some stats, alongside a guarantee increase to HP, MP and SP.
Attack: Strength of physical attacks. Primarily affected by weapons.
Defence: Resistance to physical attacks. Primarily affected by armor.
Agility: Movement and dodging speed.
Will: One's strength to survive. The higher the stat, the greater chance there is of surviving powerful hits, ignoring some damage taken, preventing an attack you receive from being a critical hit, and landing a critical hit. The higher the stat, the more HP is gained when you level up.
Wisdom: One's magic affinity. The higher the stat, the more MP is received when you level up. It also raises the recharge rate of MP.
Constitution: One's affinity to their inner strength. The higher it is, the more SP is received when you level up. It also raises the recharge rate of SP.
Elemental Status: Strength and weakness against different elements. 0 is base, while + is an increase from base, while - is a decrease from base.
Affinity: One's strength with a certain element.
Resistance: One's defence against a certain element.
Jolt Haymaker: An Active Skill. A flying haymaker imbued with electricity. It deals 50% more damage than a normal punch plus lightning damage, alongside a chance of paralysis. Costs 5 SP and 3 MP.
Straight Lunge: An Active Skill. Charging up a punch, you prepare to strike. While charging, you have immunity to light attacks. When at maximum charge, you rocket forward and send any opponents hit flying. It also causes you to be stunned for a short time. You can release it at any time, but it won't do as much damage.
A maximum charged Straight Lunge will deal 2.5 times more damage than base, alongside fire damage and a chance of burning. Upon beginning to charge the skill, 10 SP and 7 MP is used.
Star Punch: An Active Skill. Invented by Doc Lewis and perfected by Little Mac, this attack can change the tide of battle. After a perfect attack interruption, you get a star. You can hold up to three stars, and unleash it to perform a powerful punch. One star will make the attack do 5 times more damage than a regular punch. Two stars is 10 times damage, while three stars is 15 times base damage.
You can lose a star by either taking damage, or if the fight ends. You can see how many stars you have in your HUD. It costs 30 SP to use a Star Punch.
KO Punch: An Active Skill. An attack that is charged by taking or receiving damage. When the Power Meter, which is located on your HUD, is full, it will be replaced with the word 'KO!'. The attack can be unleashed as a powerful uppercut. The attack does 4 times base damage, and cannot be blocked. It also deals fire and lightning damage, with a chance for burning and paralysis. Once the KO Punch is used, whether it hits or not, it resets the meter.
The meter can be lost before the KO Punch is used by either taking damage (only when the KO Punch is available), or by ending the fight. When the meter is full, there is a 5 second grace period where damage will not cause the Punch to be lost. It costs 18 SP and 18 MP.
Boxing Champion: A Passive Skill. You're the best of the best! Unarmed attacks deal twice the amount of damage, but attacks with weapons deal significantly less damage.
Champion's Will: A Passive Skill. You never know when to back down. Taking extreme damage will stagger for less amount of time and will double the user's Will temporarily.
Pro Training: You were taught how to take a beating, and make your hits hurt. Increases Pain Tolerance by 50% and Pain Infliction by 50%.
All Comes Down to Skill: A Passive Skill. When the odds are stacked against you, you feel in your element. When outnumbered 2-1 or when the enemy's combined level is double that of your team's combined level, the skill activates. Gain a 50% increase to Attack, Defence, and Agility, while doubling your Will, Wisdom, and Constitution.
The skill can stack with itself if the enemy both outnumbers and outlevels you.
Rapid Jab: A Passive Skill. You can throw punches that outpace the wind. When you begin to throw jabs, you increase in speed as more are thrown. The speed and the acceleration depends on your Wind Affinity.
Good ol Chocolate: A Passive Skill. Like your mentor, you've developed a love for chocolate and this has more of an impact than the calories. Eating chocolate will provide a significant health recovery, while also providing a moderate recovery to both MP and SP. If chocolate is eaten near any allies, then they receive the boost as well, but to a lesser degree.
Mac's Second Wind: A Passive Skill. In the face of certain defeat, you grit your teeth in defiance and continue to fight. When you are about to be knocked down, your body can prevent itself from falling and allow you to get back in the fight. This is determined by your Will. When you recover, the health you lost will be replaced by Stamina, which slowly drains. Taking damage will do significantly more to your stamina than it would to your health.
Mac's Second Wind increases all physical attacks by 3 times, Agility by 5 times, but it cuts Defense in half.
Otherworld Clothes: Clothes from another world.
Boxing Tape: Wrapping used by fighters to protect their hands. It can also be used as a means of increasing offensive power. Grants +2 to Attack and +1 to Defence.
Photograph: A photo of Little Mac and Doc Lewis training in New York. Seeing the picture increases your drive to fight and train. After seeing the photo, grants +10 to Attack, Defense, Agility, and Will for 1 hour. Has a 3 hour cool down rate. Can only be used by Mac Little.
Mac looked at all of his skills. It was honestly way more than he was expecting. He knew he might have some because of his boxing career, but this was way more than he thought.
Looking around his vision more, he caught something. In the top left corner of his vision, he saw his name and Lv. 5, above three bars. The top bar was an orangish red, and it looked to be completely full. The second bar was green. The third was blue. To the left of that was a symbol. It was in the shape of a fist.
Under the bars, he saw two more icons. The first was a series of triangles going to the left. If he had to guess, that would be the KO meter. Under that was 3 grayed out stars. Those would be for his Star Punch, if he had to guess.
Shrugging, he laid down and fell asleep. His body needed to be prepared for what this world could throw at him.
Hey everyone. I hope you're doing alright with the current situation. I know that it has been a long time since my last update, but I am finally back. Anyways, this is not going to be updated often, but I hope you all enjoy. Stay safe, and take care.
