Chapter 1

After their adventure on Mystery Island, John Phoenix and Kyle Hyde returned to LA and went to the bank to get John Hyde's fortune

"Where's John Hyde's fortune" asked Kyle Hyde "I inherited it"

Kyle presented his uncle's will

"Oh yes I see" said the bank manager "Very well let me show you to your uncle's private vault"

John Phoenix and Kyle Hyde entered the vault and were shocked to find that it was empty!

Except it wasn't because there was a man in a top hat and a blue boy there

"Who the hell are you?" asked Kyle

"My name is Hershel Layton and this is my assistant Luke. We are searching for the lost city of an ancient race that disappeared without a trace over five thousand years ago. I believe the entrance to the city is somewhere in this vault!"

"Look professor" said Luke pointing "I think I found a puzzle"

"Excellent work my boy" said Layton "Why don't you give it a try?"

It was a block sliding puzzle, the goal was to get the marble to the hole on the other side of the blocks

Luke tried really hard but he couldn't solve it. After 15 minutes the move counter maxed out at 999 and Luke was red faced and sweating

"Oh my, how embarrassing" muttered the professor, tilting his hat over his eyes in shame

"Hurry up kid, we don't have all day" said Kyle

"I'm trying" Luke whined

He decided to use hint coins

Hint 1: Slide the blocks out of the way

Hint 2: Don't get stuck moving the same blocks back and forth

Hint 3: Did you read the previous hints?

"You stupid puzzle" whispered Luke, tears streaming down his face "I hate you"

John Phoenix's patience finally snapped. He shoved Luke out of the way and then he picked up the marble and just dropped it in the hole

PUZZLE SOLVED

10/10 PICARATS AWARDED

"Only 10 picarats?" said John Phoenix in disgust. He threw them on the ground "That's such a small number I don't even want them"

"Ohohohoho" laughed Layton folding his arms "My what a creative solution. Luke, let this serve as lesson that sometimes it pays to think outside the... blocks! Ohohoho"

Luke looked like he wanted to punch the professor, but just then a hole opened up in the middle of the floor!

Luke crawled to the hole and peered over the edge

"Professor there's a ladder! It goes down really far"

Layton was excited. "Solving that puzzle must have unveiled the entrance to the lost city! I must thank you for your assistance, Mr...?"

"John Phoenix. And this is Kyle Hyde. We're looking for the fortune of John Hyde"

"Hmm well perhaps it escaped down this hole?" said Layton. He started climbing down the ladder

"Yay adventure!" Luke climbed down after him

John Phoenix folded his arms "Hmph, what do you say Kyle?"

"We follow them. John Nile's sure to be after the fortune as well. We gotta get to it before he does!"

So Kyle and John Phoenix followed Layton and Luke down the hole...
