Editor's Note:

Hello! This is my very first fanfiction from an anime that I hold very close to my heart, Assassination Classroom! And a ship that I love oh so dearly, Maeiso (Maehara x Isogai)! Anyway! This story contains mentions of suicide and is mildly violent. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK! And enjoy! :)

It's Monday. The air is cool. Leaves are falling from the branches. It's a beautiful day in the middle of fall.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Isogai POV)
"Morning already..?" I lazily climb out of bed and put on my usual school outfit. Then walk downstairs and make myself a small bowl of plain rice.
"I feel weaker than yesterday…"
I let out a soft sigh at the thought but sat down to eat my breakfast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Time passes. Tick… Tock… The brunette tried and tried to finish his bowl but to no avail. The time is now currently 8:50 a.m.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Isogai POV)
"I'm full again…"
I stood up from the table and walked over to my door, leaving my bowl sitting in that spot. Slip on my shoes then my heavy coat and walk out, toward school.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The time is 9:00 a.m. School started 10 minutes ago.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Maehara POV)
My eyes pop open when I hear my alarm go off, for the 7th time. "BEEEP! BEEEP!" I jump out of bed with a start. "Gah, Mom's gonna kill me!!" I rush to fit my sweater over my head; finally succeeding after about 5 whole minutes of continuous struggling. I don't even bother to brush my teeth or eat. I look at the time and it spells out, "9:06 a.m". "Gotta go! Gotta go!" I sprint down my stairs, quickly slip my feet into my dress shoes and run out the door as I simultaneously grab my bag.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Third Person POV)

Maehara and Isogai walked to school together every morning no matter the weather. They would talk the whole way and laugh at each other's stupid jokes. But… today… was different… They eventually met up.

"Hey! Isogai!" Maehara yelled, waving enthusiastically.

The brunette made eye contact with his childhood friend of 8 years.

"Oh… Hi, Maehara…" Isogai said, almost too quietly to understand.

His orange-haired friend wondered why that response was so desolate and not as upbeat as their normal mornings, but just decided to not let it worry him for now.

Maehara bounds his way up next to him. Nudging him lightly in the arm using his elbow.

"Ow…"

The maple-haired boy thought as he rubbed his arm softly. He didn't want to admit the pain he felt from that little amount of a push. He didn't want to admit that he's barely been eating… less than normal. Almost nothing even. So he didn't.

"You feelin' ok, man…?" Maehara asked, worry stitched onto his face.

Isogai replied with a simple, "I'm fine".

Maehara looked the opposite way, at a loss for words at the moment.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They walked in complete silence that morning. All you could hear from the two boys is their faint breathing but absolutely nothing else.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Third Person POV)

The boys made it to class and sat down quietly in their seats. Hoping KoroSensei wouldn't notice.

"And that's just it, boys and girls. That is how you cook ramen properly!— Ah. Isogai. Maehara" KoroSensei said in an upset tone.

"Crap..!"

Maehara thought. Biting his lip nervously.

"Great… Just what I need…"

The brunette hid his face to ease the humiliation he felt.

"Your reason for being late to my class?" KoroSensei spoke again, sternly.

Maehara hesitated, "Overslept, sir…"

"Hm. And you, Isogai? You're the last person I would ever expect to be late" The teacher spoke with shock.

Isogai said this, "Up late last night doing homework… sir… I'm sorry…"

"I was lying… I was actually up late last night crying until I finally fell asleep…"

KoroSensei let out a sigh, "It's alright. Just remember to get up at a decent time tomorrow" And he went back to teaching. "Now class, remember your descriptive paper is due tomorrow."

"It's been hard to do much of anything lately… The café wants me to work way more hours than I'm able to… Mom is getting more sick by the day… I have to finish a paper that I've barely even started… Dad's death anniversary is today… and… m-my life is falling apart at the seams…"

Isogai thought in his head.

Hinata spoke up, whispering to Maehara, "Isogai seems different today… Are you noticing that too..?"

Maehara leaned over whispering back, "I know… I'm gonna see what's up after school".

Hinata replied with, "That's a good idea. I'm worried…"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The class bell rings. There's a 5 minute intermission between periods. Maehara takes this as the best chance he's gonna get.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Isogai. Come over here for a sec". Maehara stood up from his seat.

"Jeez… What does he want..?"

Isogai sat there for a bit before finally deciding to walk over to him.

"I want you to meet me in the schoolyard today. Please" The brunette's friend sounded rather desperate. I mean, why wouldn't he?

Isogai showed discomfort, "Why?"

"We need to talk," Maehara said.

"There's nothing to talk about…"

Then he says aloud, "Alright, fine" Then turns himself around and sits back in his seat.

Maehara gawked, concern clear on his face. He knew something was up and he was going to get to the bottom of it even if it killed him.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Isogai POV)
The day felt like it would never end. Maybe it's because of the cold atmosphere? But just like Maehara wanted… We met up in the schoolyard behind the building.
I see him walking over. I get nervous and my hands start trembling so I quickly stuff them into the pockets of my coat.
He gets a little too close for comfort and starts on a rant, "I'm your best friend, am I not? I know when you're upset and I know that you're not acting like yourself. You've been blowing me off the past couple of days when I ask if you wanna hang out. Is everything okay at home? Are you not getting enough sleep? You need to talk to me".
"No… and yes…"
My voice starts to waver. I can feel myself growing impatient. "I don't need to talk to you at all..!"
"And why is that?" He was getting frustrated.
I freeze.
"Is he going to leave me if I don't tell him?... No…"
But my emotions got the best of me and I yelled, "Leave me alone, Maehara!!"
His eyes widened, "What…?" He was reaching out to grab my hand. "Isogai—"
I cut him off and brought my hand back behind me, "No!"
He took a step closer to me, "Isogai—I'm just trying to—"
I take a big step back,
"What am I saying..?? He… he's trying to help me…"
My body feels exhausted and it's had enough. Not wanting to though, I lash out at him, "I SAID I DON'T NEED YOUR HELP!! You always think you know exactly what I'm going through! You don't, Maehara! You don't! It must be so nice not having to worry about working a job seven days a week or having this feeling in your gut every second of every day that your Mom could just collapse..! You don't think about that stuff because you've never worked a day in your life and you don't have a dying Mother!" I breathe heavily but still have more to say, quietly though, "This will all be over soon anyway…" Then I ran away as fast as I could so Maehara couldn't catch up to me.
He holds his arm out to me, yelling in fear, "Isogai! I'm sorry! Come back!"
"What did he mean by "over soon anyway"..."
Maehara thought.
The whole way home, Maehara could not get what Isogai said out of his mind. It was taking over all of his other thoughts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Maehara POV)

I walked down the steep hill, slouching. Wondering why my best friend would ever yell at me like that.

I make it home after a while, immediately heading up to my room. Ultimately, avoiding my two older sisters and my pushy Mom.

I sit on my bed, cupping my face in my hands,

"Maybe I pushed him too far… I mean, he seemed a lot more stressed than normal, which is why I interrogated him… but… If I tryta talk to him… He'll just push me away, I'm sure…"

I let out an exasperated sigh, allowing my body to fall backward with my head landing on the pillow. Putting my hands under my neck.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Isogai POV)
I isolate myself underneath the covers of my warm mattress. Barely caring about anything anymore. Not work, school, my friends…
"I just want to die… Maybe now would be the best time to just… end it for good… and I could see Dad again…!"
I throw the blankets off of me, stand up and walk over to my dresser. I begin to rummage through my top drawer filled with underwear and socks; but I'm looking for a specific item… a real knife.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

(Maehara POV)

I contemplate what to do. Should I talk to him, or let the situation go all together?

I then flash back to what he said…

"This will all be over soon anyway…"

My eyes widened in realization when I finally figured out what that meant. I waste no time to get out of bed and sprint down my steps. Not even bothering to put on shoes I ran out as fast as my legs could carry me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
(Third Person POV)
Isogai found nothing in his first drawer where he thought he left it so he began to search through his three other ones.
The boy with the orange hair ran up to the Isogai household and banged on the door repeatedly until his youngest sibling answered the door; which just happened to be his little sister.
"Ah! Hi Hiroto! I haven't seen you in such a long—"
Maehara cut her off, "I need to see Yuuma ASAP!"
Maehara hadn't used his best friend's first name since childhood. Meaning this was urgent.
"C-Come in then..!" She said in a frightful tone.
"Big bro…?"
Maehara looked in every room. In every crevice. Everywhere.
Meanwhile, Isogai had found what he was looking for. Pulling it out, holding it in his shaky hands.
"This is it. My only chance to end my constant pain…" But then the boy thought,
"What about Maehara…? Mom..? My siblings…? They would be devastated…"
Isogai began to inch the knife closer and closer. Still to this day, trying to find the answer as to why his life sucks so much and why all of it had to happen to him. The edge of the blade was touching his jacket, all he had to do was push it through.
Thankfully, Maehara bursted through his door at the very last second. Grabbing his best friend's hands and pointing the knife the opposite way of him, "You don't have to do this… Please…!"
"Wh-What are you doing here..?!" The brown-haired boy yelled at him in frustration.
Maehara spoke in a comforting tone, but it was hard because he was so concerned, "Let me help you, okay..? Everything's gonna be okay, I promise…! I promise, it's all going to be alright, okay…? Just put the knife down, please… Yuuma, please…"
Isogai froze again at hearing him say his first name, "H...Hiroto…" he said softly.
They stared at each other. Fear visible in both of their eyes.
But not long after, Isogai begins to play tug-of-war with Maehara. All he wanted to do was die. Isogai's eyes were shut tight, struggling to pull it back in his direction.
"Let it go, Maehara…!! Quit trying to stop me..!" Isogai said, crying.
"No..! Yuuma, please…! I'm here for you, all you have to do is drop the knife…!" Maehara responded, perilously.
The weapon of choice was dangerously close to the ginger. Without knowing it was pointed at his close friend than himself, Isogai stabbed the knife right through Maehara's chest; more specifically, his heart.
He made a small gurgling-like sound.
Isogai gasped when he heard him, opening his eyes, "M… Mae… Maehara… N-No…!"
"Ugh…" he fell into Isogai, blood dripping down his light yellow sweater.
Isogai caught him. Thinking he could pull the knife out and everything would be fine but… when he did… blood gushed out and was non-stop. Maehara fell to his knees, bringing his friend along with him. He was dying.
Isogai set him down on the ground and tried to apply pressure to the wound, but his hands were filled with blood. He then picked Maehara up in his arms and held him. Continuing to try and stop him from bleeding out but to no avail. "Y-You're going to make it, H-Hiroto…! L-Look at me, H-Hiroto…! Hey…! I-I can't lose you… Please… J-Just stay with m-me..! I...I need you… I… I need you so much… Please…!"
Maehara was holding on for dear life, his blood level was getting threateningly low, he felt weak, he could hardly move. In his last moments with his best friend, he spoke, not caring if he couldn't understand him. He needed to let it out, let it be known.
"I… love you… Yuu...ma…"
Maehara used all of his available strength that was left to lean in and kiss him. The brunette was surprised. He couldn't believe that his lips were touching his childhood friend's, but he kissed him back anyway. Isogai was in love with this feeling. He had fallen deeply in love with his best friend. It didn't matter though; Maehara died before the kiss could end.
The brunette broke down, letting out an elongated scream for the whole neighborhood to hear, "HIROTOOO…!!! I'm sorry… I-I'm so sorry… F-For e-everything…!... I… I love you too, Hiroto…"
Isogai held Maehara in his arms the whole night and sobbed. He didn't go to school the next day, he didn't eat, he didn't shower, and he didn't sleep. All he could do was cry.
Editor's Note: I'm sorry to all the Maehara stans, but thank you for reading my story!
