Chapter One: The Barton Siblings

Clint and Chalsea Barton, brother and sister, orphaned when their parents died in a car accident they were put in an orphanage. They stayed until Chalsea was six years old and sixteen year old Clint had enough so in the middle of the night he packed up what little they both had and they ran. Once they ran he didn't stop until he came upon Carson Carnival Of Traveling Wonders. He found the ringmaster and begged him to let him and his sister stay. That they would help clean up after each show and he could take care of his sister on his own. The ringmaster allowed them to stay and gave them a small trailer to live in. The siblings first week there had them cleaning up after the elephants.

The longer they stayed the more Clint wanted to join the shows, so he started by practicing archery every night after he tucked Chalsea into bed. Within a week he was hitting the bullseye dead center every time. Over time he would do different tricks while shooting his shot until he was noticed by the ringmaster and was added into the show. Chalsea seeing her brother join the show started to follow in his footsteps but in a different route. She liked the acts that walked along the tightrope and flew through the air and the aerial routines with the silk ropes. By the time she was seven she was an expert better than most adults.

With both of the Barton siblings in the show and better than most of the ringmaster's old acts he created an act that revolved solely around the two of them. They were dubbed The Amazing Hawkeye and Cosmo Sky. The names didn't go well together but the crowd loved them and would always come back to see them. They made the ringmaster a lot of money and he gave Clint 10% of the nights earnings from their show. But it wasn't enough Clint wanted to leave the circus to give his sister a better normal life. When the ringmaster found out Clint wanted to leave he got mad and stopped giving Clint money from the show.

Shortly after the money stopped they were also cut from the shows, the ringmaster would give them excuses that they were trying something new. Then Clint found the ringmaster trying to whip his sister with the lion's whip. Clint freaked and attacked the ringmaster leaving him unconscious. He grabbed his sister by the hand and ran to their trailer and packed their bags and their money and they left. Clint was eighteen so he was old enough to get them a small cheap apartment. Chalsea's tenth birthday was coming up and he was beating himself up that he didn't have enough money to get her anything. So he became a hired assassin it paid well but it's not what Clint wanted to do with his life.

When Clint was twenty years old he was approached by a man in a long black coat and an eye patch offering him a better job one where he didn't have to be a hired assassin anymore. He could have a better life for him and his sister without any further thought he took the offer. The man Clint now knows as Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D told him to pack his bags and meet him outside of their apartment in the black SUV with the silver eagle on the hood. They didn't have much so it didn't take them long to pack. Chalsea not used to being around anyone but her brother held his hand tight as they walked out to the SUV. Once in the truck she sat as close to him as she could and watched the man who was driving.

"You both will share a room at the S.H.I.E.L.D training academy where you both will be able to train and keep your skills sharp and in shape. Mr Barton your training will be for a year and then you will be an agent for S.H.I.E.L.D and sent on missions. Don't worry your sister will be kept safe while you're out on missions. She doesn't have to train to become an agent when she is old enough unless it is her wish to do so." NIck Fury explains to the both of them. "Will I still be able to train like I did in the circus?" Chalsea asks quietly. "Of course, we can have a gym at the academy set up with everything you will need. It will be open to you whenever you want." Fury agrees.

Chalsea relaxes against her brother at that news and remains silent for the rest of the drive to the academy. They pull up to a huge stone building and Fury parks in front of the building and they all climb out of the SUV. She walks where she is hidden halfway behind her brother's arm but still able to see where they are going. Fury takes them up to the fifth floor and to their room he opens the door in the middle of the hall. "This is your room, we had it remodeled by knocking out the wall between this room and the one we just walked past. We had it set up where you both would have your own private sleeping quarters." Fury comments while he lets the door fall open.

"I will leave you both to settle in and get comfortable with your new surroundings. There is a cafeteria downstairs if you get hungry. There is also a fully functioning bathroom in your room so you won't have to share with the other trainees." Fury comments before leaving the two alone. Chalsea walks further into the room and Clint shuts and locks the door like always "This room is bigger than our old apartment." Chalsea mutters quietly. She walks over to the purple door with her name written on it with black paint. She opens the door slowly "Oh my god! Clinton come and look at the size of this room." She exclaims in shock.

Clint carries her bag to her room as she walks around the room slowly he sets the bag down on the floor at the foot of her bed. "Hey baby hawk you hungry. I can go and get us something for dinner down in the cafeteria." He asks her. "Yeah a little bit. I'll stay here while you go down." She agrees quietly. "Ok but stay down off of any perch you find until you know the layout." He orders softly. "Yeah, yeah I get it Hawkeye." She laughs. He gives her a playful stern look and she just laughs and pushes him from the room. He leaves their room with a chuckle as he makes his way down to the cafeteria.

He brings back burgers, fries, chips and pizza and some milk. When he enters back into the room he finds her sitting up on the top beam over her room. "What did I say about staying on the ground until you learned the layout of the room." He scolds her. "Oh come on, I have been flying high since I was six. So this little beam is nothing." She laughs but climbs down anyways. "Are you happy now, I'm back on the ground." She asks while walking over to the small couch in the room. "Yes, thank you. Now it's time to eat." He points at the food on the table.

The both of them are settled in by the end of the week just as Clint's training to become an agent begins. Chalsea also uses the gym that was set up for her at least four times a day. She would be in there more but Clint would have to drag her out for lunch, dinner and bedtime. Chalsea slowly starts to come out of her shy shell and open up to Fury and Agent Coulson who was assigned as their handler. Clint was also sent off on his first mission to take out a Russian assassin by the code name The Black Widow. But he never killed her like he was supposed to; he brought her back with him because she reminded him too much of himself and Chalsea before they were offered a second chance.

Fury and Coulson lectured him on following the rules but they allowed her to stay and train with them. Natasha was following Clint to the gym to train when they passed Chalsea's gym and she stopped and looked inside. "Who's that?" She asks while pointing at Chalsea. Clint walks back to the door and looks inside. "That's my little sister, this is her gym. The only ones allowed in are Fury, Coulson and myself. And before you ask no she is not training to become an agent, she just loves to be up in the air and keep up with her skills from our time in the circus." Clint explains.

When Chalsea was eighteen they moved from the S.H.I.E.L.D academy into a fairly nice apartment in New York closer to Clint's new post. He was assigned to watch over Dr Erik Selvig and the tesseract. Chalsea was finishing up her final exams back at the S.H.I.E.L.D academy when it happened. Fury and Coulson didn't tell her until after her exams so her mind wouldn't be on worrying about her brother. Once she got her final test scores left the academy and went back to her and Clint's apartment hoping he would be there. She was confused when she got home because her brother always greets her with a smile and a big hug. When she checked the whole place she called Fury.

"Where is my brother Nick?" She demands the moment he answers. "I'm outside, come downstairs. We need to talk and take you somewhere safe." He comments before hanging up. Chalsea grabs her small backpack style purse and locks the door to the apartment before walking down to the black SUV on the side of the street. She climbs into the passenger seat to be greeted by a grim looking Fury.

"What's going on?" She asks, getting worried. "Your brother's been compromised." He sighs out. She just stares at him not saying anything when she starts to breathe heavily before passing out in her seat. Fury checks her pulse and feels it beating frantically so he rushes off to the helicarrier. He slams on the brakes once on the helicarrier and throws the SUV into park and jumps out of the driver's seat. He lifts Chalsea from the passenger seat and rushes her into the medbay. He has one of the Drs on board give her a sedative to calm her down before leaving her to rest. He steps out of medbay and sends out the order to bring forth Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and Bruce Banner.
