Hey, peeps! This is my first Stranger Things oneshot and I'm super proud of it. I'm a huge Steve Harrington fan and he's seriously one of the best characters on the show. Gotta show Steve "The Hair" Harrington some love.
I don't own any characters from Stranger Things or the song "Forever Young" by Alphaville. I do own Blake Henderson though!
Steve looked at himself in the mirror as he adjusted his tie. He let out a sigh when he finally managed to get the stupid bow tie to stay after the millionth attempt. Ok, it was a million but it sure as hell felt like it. Steve then looked over at the digital clock next to his bed to see that he was running late.
"Shit," Steve hissed as he grabbed the suit jacket from his chair.
He hastily made his way down the stairs while putting on the jacket and towards his kitchen. He went towards the fridge and pulled it open to grab a plastic container that contained a delicate corsage containing three red roses, baby's breath and a satin, red ribbon. Steve smiled as he looked at the arrangement. He just hoped that his girlfriend would like it. Grabbing his keys, he headed out the door to pick up his girlfriend.
Steve finally made it to the Henderson residence with time to spare. He took a deep breath as he exited the car to make his way towards the front door. Steve adjusted his jacket, tie and hair before he knocked on the door. Rocking his heels for a bit, he soon heard footsteps on the other side of the door. The door opened to reveal the familiar curly headed brunette wearing his signature trucker hat and the teen smiled up at Steve.
"Harrington!" Dustin greeted.
"Henderson!" Steve greeted with the same enthusiasm.
They began to do their signature handshake that was accompanied by a mini lightsaber battle. Both of them laughed heartily as they finished. Ever since Dustin enlisted Steve's help and saved the world, the two grew close especially when Blake started dating Steve. They saw each other as brothers and could talk about almost everything. There were even times when Steve asked for Dustin's help when it came to Blake. Dustin then began to look Steve over then saw the corsage in the teen's hands and smirked.
"Really went all out for my sister, huh?" Dustin asked as he smiled more, showing off his "pearls."
"Hey, you'll understand how important this night is when you get your own girlfriend," Steve defended as he patted Dustin on the shoulder, "Your sister is worth it."
"Whatever, man," Dustin replied with a shake of his head. Dustin then turned his head towards the hallway, "BLAKE! Steve's here!"
"Jesus Christ, Dusty!" Steve could hear his girlfriend shout from her bedroom, "Stop yelling! I'll be out in a minute!"
Dustin looked back at Steve, "She's busy putting on her face. It's been taking her hours cause she wants to look perfect for you."
"Shut up, Dustin!" Blake screamed from her room.
Steve bit his lip to suppress a laugh at the way Dustin and Blake would bicker with each other. Even when they were fighting off DemoDogs and saving the world, Blake and Dustin were butting heads but not in a way that jeopardized everyone. Steve then thought back to when he teamed up with the Henderson siblings to find Dart. Steve never thought he would ever team up with Blake Henderson at all. He didn't know her well, only that she was a friend of Nancy's since their brothers are best friends. She was generally a quiet and shy girl but had no idea that she was a badass underneath as she helped him fight off the DemoDogs at the junkyard, protect the kids from Billy and trudged through the tunnels to lure the DemoDogs away for Eleven to close the gate. Steve didn't realize that Blake was the girl for him.
Steve snapped back to reality when he noticed Blake entering the living room. He stared at her in awe. She was wearing a dark purple dress with a skirt reaching her knees that was slightly poofy and a large bow on her lower back, black medium sized heels and she wore her long, wavy dark brunette hair up with a purple barrette. He already thought Blake was pretty but right now she was absolutely gorgeous.
As Blake walked into the living room she was trying to adjust the bow on her back, thinking it was a pain in the ass for being so big. She then looked up to see Steve standing with her brother at the door. A blush dusted her cheeks as she saw how handsome her boyfriend looked as he was clad in a black suit and a cute, red bowtie. She bit her bottom lip to contain her smile as she walked towards him.
"You look incredible, Blake," Steve spoke up still in awe.
"You don't look so bad yourself, Harrington," Blake quipped but gave him a sweet smile.
Steve didn't realize he was staring at Blake until Dustin nudged him in the arm. Steve shook his head then straightened up.
"I got this for you," Steve said as he held up the corsage in the plastic container, "Ah… let me… just get this..."
Blake couldn't help but huff out a laugh at her boyfriend being a dork while Dustin rolled his eyes at Steve being a dork. Steve pulled the corsage out from the plastic then turned back to Blake. She presented her wrist to him as he slid the corsage onto her wrist then holding her hand afterwards. Blake looked at the corsage to see the roses and baby's breath then glanced up at Steve.
"It's beautiful…" Blake said softly.
Blake then felt her brother nudge her arm and turned her head to see Dustin holding up Steve's boutonniere, "Forgetting something?"
"Oh, yeah! Thanks, Dustin," Blake replied clearing her throat and took the boutonniere from him.
Blake stepped closer to Steve and began to pin the boutonniere to his left lapel. Steve noticed the boutonniere looked like the corsage he had gotten, complete with red roses and baby's breath. Before Steve could say anything, the front door opened to reveal Dustin and Blake's mother.
"Oh good! You kids are still here!" Claudia chirped, "I need a picture of you two before you head out!"
Blake then set her head against Steve's chest with a groan, slightly embarrassed. Steve chuckled lightly at her reaction as he wrapped an arm around her waist. Blake could see the smirk that was on her brother's face, knowing his sister was embarrassed right now. Claudia soon returned with her camera and smiled wide.
"All right, get close, lovebirds," Claudia said.
"Moooom," Blake whined slightly.
Steve chuckled again as he brought her closer by her waist. Blake blushed slightly and moved her hand to rest on his chest where her corsage was next to Steve's boutonniere. Her blush darkened as Steve held his hand over hers. Claudia took a few pictures and cooed happily at them.
"Now give her a kiss, Steve," Dustin replied, making kissy faces at the older teens.
"Dustin," Blake snarled.
"We should get going anyway or we will be late," Steve piped up as he led Blake towards the door, "I'll have her home by eleven, Mrs. Henderson!"
Blake giggled as Steve followed behind her and closed the door behind him, "Steve to save the day."
"Hey, I was trying to prevent the bloodshed between you and Dustin," Steve defended.
"Such a knight in shining armor," Blake teased.
"I am to please, my lady," Steve said while giving her a slight bow.
Blake smirked at his words then followed Steve towards his car. Steve, being the knight in shining armor he claimed to be, opened the passenger side door for Blake. She thanked him and climbed into the seat.
Once they arrived at Hawkins High School gymnasium, everyone was dancing with their respective partner, drinking punch and gorging on snacks. Steve's eyes feel onto Carol, Tommy H. and Billy a short distance away. They were laughing away at whoever they were insulting this time. Steve then felt Blake's fingers intertwine with his, making him look at her.
"Hey, forget those assholes," Blake said with a smile, "We're here to have some fun, Harrington."
Steve smiled back at her with a nod, "Yeah, you're right. Still have to show you my dance moves."
Blake snorted out a laugh, "You're a ninja, a damn good babysitter, an awesome boyfriend and now you're a great dancer?"
Steve smirked, "Awesome boyfriend, you say?"
"Oh, shut up and dance with me," Blake said with a roll of her eyes but smiled sweetly at him.
They headed towards the dance floor and mingled in with the rest of their classmates. Blake had to admit that Steve's dancing improved from what she saw at Tina's Halloween party last Halloween. He even sang along to some of the lyrics in a cheesy way making Blake laugh even harder. She couldn't help but think Steve was the biggest dork she's ever met but she realized that is one of the things she loved most about him.
After a few songs and with Steve's "fantastic" karaoke, Nicole and Tina were at the mic on the makeshift stage while another student stood close by with two crowns on the pillow. They were about to announce prom king and queen. Blake had a feeling who king was going to be at least. For the longest time, Steve was considered King of Hawkins High but after his falling out with Tommy H. and Carol, the two spread nasty rumors of Steve around the school. Then it was solidified as soon as Billy arrived at Hawkins High and established his dominance, Steve was dethroned. Blake actually preferred regular Steve over King Steve. King Steve was more of a douchebag and surrounded himself with bullies like Tommy H. and Carol. As soon as he dropped them as friends, he started becoming a better person.
"I hope that everyone is having fun so far before the school year ends and enter the real world!" Nicole said happily, causing many of the students to hoop and holler, "We are ready to announce your prom king and queen!"
Everyone began to clap as Tina gave Nicole an envelope. Nicole tore the envelope open then cleared her throat, "Your prom queen is… Heather Halloway!"
Heather was shocked and looked at her friends while squealing. She then quickly made her way towards the stage then had Tina placed the small crown on Heather's head. Blake was actually happy Heather was prom queen. She was a very sweet, considerate and kind girl that was going to go far in life. Nicole then spoke up again, "And your prom king is… Billy Hargrove!"
Of course. Of course it was Billy. Steve and Blake were surprised that Billy even showed up to prom at all. They guessed it was so he could keep up appearances. Blake hated Billy with a flaming passion, especially him going after the kids and nearly killing Steve. They both watched as Billy was crowned king and he turned to the crowd, striking a pose that got everyone riled up and cheering. Blake could only roll her eyes. She bet that Billy didn't really give a damn about the crown or title and was just putting on a show. Once, everyone had settled back down, the music began to play again. Blake saw the look on Steve's face to see he seemed a little disheartened.
Let's dance in style, let's dance for a while
Heaven can wait we're only watching the skies
She took his hand again for him to look into her eyes and she smiled at him, "Let's dance."
Steve smiled softly and nodded at her request. Blake wrapped her arms around Steve's neck as he wrapped his arms around her waist, swaying her lightly to the music. Blake gazed into his brown eyes that reminded her of molten chocolate, "Upset that you weren't prom king?"
Steve pressed his lips into a thin line then upwards, "Nah, not really."
Let us die young or let us live forever
We don't have the power, but we never say never
Blake gave a ghost of a smile as she wrapped her arms around his neck more while setting her forehead against his, "Didn't think so… and honestly, I'm glad."
Steve perked up slightly as she said that, "Why? You didn't want me dancing with Heather Halloway?"
"No, it's not that," Blake huffed out a laugh, "It's because… when you were no longer King Steve… You became a better person. You are great with the kids and you are such a good friend to my little brother. He really looks up to you."
"He's a great kid. He's even taught me a thing or two," Steve mentioned.
Blake smiled more, "He really is… and I was worried at first when he asked you to help us with Dart."
"Really?" Steve asked, raising a brow.
Can you imagine when this race is won?
Turn our golden the faces into the sun
"Yeah… because I was afraid you were going to be King Steve… but as we spent time getting to know each other and faced so much shit together… I knew you had changed for the better. I was terrified when you faced the DemoDogs and Billy. I didn't want to lose you."
"I wasn't about to let anything happen to you guys," Steve replied then smirked, "Sounds like you were developing feelings, Henderson."
"Getting ahead of yourself there," Blake chuckled then turned back to serious, "but yes… my feelings were subtle at first but when you started spending time with my brother and helping him, I realized that I was falling for you."
"I felt the same, Dustin helped me realize those feelings," Steve admitted.
Some are like water, some are like the heat
Some are a melody and some are the beat
"Kid was determined to get us together," Blake said with a small shake of her head, "Almost feels like he made us look for Dart together on purpose."
"I wouldn't put it past him," Steve said.
"If so, I don't regret it," Blake replied gently.
"I don't either," Steve said, bringing her closer by her waist then looked into her eyes, "Are you sure you want to have me as a boyfriend? A guy who almost didn't graduate and is going to be stuck in a dead end job?"
Blake knew that Steve wasn't the brightest when it came to school but she did her best to help him graduate which he did. She also knew that his douchebag of a dad wouldn't let Steve come work for him at his company and is forcing Steve to find a job on his own. Of course this didn't deter Blake from dating Steve. No matter what, Steve was going to be her loving, dork of a boyfriend. She couldn't ask for anyone better.
"I don't care about that Steve. I am going to be with you every step of the way. Because you are my badass ninja, babysitter, dancer and boyfriend," Blake swiped a strand of Steve's wild hair away from his face, "I love you, Steve Harrington."
Steve smiled, "I love you, Blake Henderson,"
So many adventures given up today
So many songs we forgot to play
So many dreams swinging out of the blue
Oh let it come true
He turned his head slightly to press his lips to Blake's in a soft, passionate kiss. Blake reciprocated the kiss and felt warm and tingly from her head to her toes. She has shared many kisses with Steve before but this one felt different. There was more love and tenderness behind it. She couldn't believe she was here at prom with Steve as her boyfriend and sharing a mind blowing kiss. If anyone had told her this would be a reality, she would have laughed and walked away. She wouldn't trade away this time for anything else.
Forever young
I want to be forever young
Do you really want to live forever
Forever, and ever
Thanks for reading everyone! I hope you liked it!
