First Time Date

Another day ends with another breath-taking sunset with two of the most important people to his heart. What better way to conclude another day of catching up with them, playing games again and being teenagers with hearts of children? Well for Sora he had one idea but only if he can muster the bravery to do so.

Laying down on their usual tree watching the sunset, the chocolate haired youth subtly glances at his two best friends. Riku as usual standing against the large tree looking at the ocean glistening by the sun with his usual contemplating looks. In the middle sitting right with a smile on her face Kairi lazily kicks her legs back and forth quietly humming to herself.

These peaceful days were slowly shifting into the norm for he and Riku, with them only having been home only a month after defeating Xemnas and bringing peace to the worlds once more. Granted neither of them had it easy adjusting back to their old lives once again with but with Kairi mediating between them and lending her help it got easier for them over time. But not everything had melded back to normal for them, especially Sora.

Where once he could play with Kairi and Riku normally, that competitive streak with his best friend while finding himself able to be at peace at the activities with Kairi, nowadays he couldn't feel the same toward Kairi.

His journey through so many worlds, nearly two years of his life gone to protecting and searching for his missing friends had helped him grow in so many ways, but it also changed a few things about him as well. And the biggest change?

His feelings to Kairi.

Whereas a kid he knew she held a special place within his heart and before the revelation of other worlds, keyblades and many other things had come up to him. Now though? That little feeling turned into something more alien and unknown to him.

Love.

How could nobody fall for this girl? Besides her auburn hair that had now reached her shoulders, swaying in the breeze giving her this other worldly beauty, her dark blue eyes that reminds him of the mystery of the ocean. She had aged more maturely than he ever will, which gave her this aura of confidence and charisma that he believed could make anyone her best friend, maybe even Xemnas.

Beyond her looks he sees the true beauty that was her gentle nature with that strong will to face her challenges head on. The fact she was willing to throw herself to the fray to help him alone showed she had courage very few could carry. But behind all that is still that wonderful and kind girl who could simply smile at him and suddenly all his worries fears can melt away.

His admiration was broken when Riku pushes himself off the tree and stretched. "I'm heading home", he grunts. He gave both a friendly smirk and salute before he casually walks across the bridge, leaving them to their own devices. At least that was what Kairi was thinking, but to Sora it was a giant sign from the boy that practically screamed: "Make a move".

There were days Sora could strangle that boy…and this is one of them…

Kairi waved him off with a smile before she glanced back at Sora who sported a shy grin on his face. The princess giggled before they returned their eyes to the sunset, reviling in this serenity between them. Unknown to Sora, he isn't alone in exploring the unknown regions of love. He had a secret companion in his journey in the form of Kairi.

The red-haired beauty subtly glanced at the one person who unknowingly held her heart, taking in his handsome form. He grew a few inches taller than her which on one hand she laments being the shortest of the trio but on the other hand, she liked it. Having him looking at her from above, especially when they hugged oddly made her feel better. His wild spiky hair that she unashamedly loves to ruffle under the guise of her being playful is longer and more wild.

His sky-blue eyes that made her feel like she was soaring through the clouds and put her heart beat up to a million miles per hour for being under his loving gaze. What she didn't like was how handsome he had become; it was so unfair. His baby fat had left him, well defined chin and that youthful tanned look, and god help anyone when he smiles, that smile of his that she truly believed could make anybody fall for him.

Then came when he was re-enrolled back into their school, the number of girls who gush over him and fawned, it made her sick to her stomach. Only *she* could gush on how gosh darn handsome.

This is why when she saw he was struggling with schoolwork she jumped on that opportunity to be his personal tutor. She remembered after a math test the boy had slumped onto his table in complete defeat and lamented his lack of mathematic skills, to which Kairi silently agreed it was a horrible subject. When she saw a few girls about to offer their services to him she instantly got by his side and offered him some tutoring lessons.

She had the distinct advantage over the other girls, not just because she is his best friend, but showing him her A+ paper.

Suffice to say Kairi planted the seeds of her future career of being a teacher~

"We should probably get going too", Kairi says, gently patting his shoes, "We've school tomorrow". A groan was all she got from him, whether he didn't want to move or the thought of another day of school she didn't know but sleeping on the islands and getting ready for school the day after often leads to far more trouble than it was worth.

Soon Sora manages to muster enough energy to get off the tree with Kairi and together in comfortable silence walked across the bridge.

One quiet row back home to the main lands and after tying their boats up to ensure they wouldn't get loose and sail off into the oceans again, they walked to the crossroads where they would have to split up to go to their homes. Standing in the crossroads, Kairi gave Sora a wonderful smile and bids him a good night after giving him a hug.

When she turned to go home, he speaks up.

"Hey, Kairi?".

She turned back to him and sees he looked incredibly shy and hesitant to speak. His hand rubbing his neck as he kept looking everywhere but her, before he miraculously finds his voice again. "U-Uh, y-you know about the festival tomorrow?", he asked.

How could she forget?

The Star Festival is an old island tradition that, from what the records say, celebrated the day the islanders formed the community. Legends say that the islands were once part of some massive world that reigned with the light, but when it shattered the islands were all that remained of the past. Every ten years there'd be a festival to celebrate it, along with the meteor shower that would come at the first stroke of midnight.

"Of course, what about it?", she asks, a certain yearning within her heart.

"W-W-W-Well…w-w-would you like to go with me?", he asked.

Every fibre of her heart and soul granted her the power to resist gushing and squealing with utter delight. Sora, HER Sora (she'll fight anyone who says otherwise), is asking her, HER, out?

"Go with you? As in…a date?", she asked, keeping her voice normal and sweet as opposed to squealing. Sora's cheeks go bright red as he nervously smiles back and says: "Y-Yeah! I-I mean, if you want to…".

"DO NOT SQUEAL! DO NOT SQUEAL!", Kairi mentally coached herself before she manages to control her giddiness and breathing. "That would be wonderful, I'd love to!", she said excitedly. Sora's nervous smile disappeared and was replaced by a larger grin. "G-Great! After school, four?", he asked.

"My place?", Kairi asked.

"Sure! I'll pick you up!", replied Sora.

She nods, they hug, and both head their respective homes.

The moment they entered their rooms, both had the same thought on their minds.

"Sora/I'm is taking me/Kairi on a date", they both thought together.

Sora throws both his hands into the air with a loud "YAHOO!" and sported the largest grin no ordinary human's lips could possibly perform. While at Kairi's, she grabbed her large teddy (a birthday gift from her adoptive mother), held him close and rolled on the ground squealing in utter joy.

*School: Lunch Break*

"A date with Kairi…I'm taking Kairi out for a date".

That was practically all the boy could think about, like his brain turned into a record player and the song of taking his dream girl out for a date was all that was repeating. At least that is what Riku was guessing judging by that stupid happy smile he was constantly sporting on his face.

"So I'm guessing you finally grew a pair and finally asked Kairi out to the festival?", he asks as he takes a bite out of his sandwich. Sora gives him the biggest smile he had and nodded. "Yup! And guess what? She said yes!", replied the very enthusiastic Sora, hands on the table, "She said yes! To me!".

"Yeah, hard to believe eh?", Riku says with a roll of his eyes. The silver head truly didn't know who was more dense when it came to the attraction of each other, the girl or the boy. Sure he knew they were both only recently discovering they developed a more personal interest in each other but still even a blind person could see they shared the same mutual feeling toward the other. It was such a pain in the teeth to see how sweet those two acted without being a legit couple, and it took all his patience for him to stay silent.

Sora lets out a small sigh of content, wishing school would end faster so he could take her out already. But as his mind wanders, Riku speaks. "What's the plan for the date then? Just the festival routine and poof, home?", he asked.

When Sora didn't respond, Riku turned to see him staring into the distance, eyes wide and smile gone. Lowering his sandwich and now turning to sit properly to face the younger keyblade wielder, worried suddenly. "Sora?", he asked, blinking.

"…I have no idea what to do for a date…", Sora whispers, as if he just discovered a horrible, HORRIBLE secret that could destroy all life as they knew it. Riku raised a brow, mouth slightly open in a vain attempt to respond to that statement. But he couldn't even get one word out before Sora grabbed both sides of his head. "I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO FOR A DATE!", he yelled, panicking.

He turned to Riku and grabbed his collar with both hands, eyes pleading for guidance. "Riku! You're an expert on girls and dates! HELP ME!", begged the boy.

If Sora didn't look so desperate for answers Riku would have burst into laughter. But considering the boy had never taken a girl out for a date, and he was as nervous as a kitten walking into a den of dogs, he figured the boy could do with some help. Albeit he wished he wasn't so close to him that anyone passing by would mistake him for trying to make out with the silver head.

The less ammunition the fan girls are given the better…

He gently (great restraint on his part) releases Sora's grip on his collar and pushed him back on the seat. "Sora, I think you're overreacting here", he says, "All you're doing is just hanging out with Kairi and being a little more…I dunno, closer? Bar that, just treat it like a normal day out with her". Sora gave Riku a pout that only a puppy could give, as if he had just belittled the seriousness that was dating Kairi.

With a casual shrug, Riku sipped his drink and then says: "Just at least dress up a little nicer, hold her hands WITH her permission, and just, I dunno, be nicer to her". To his worry he saw Sora taken notes. Literally pencil and note pad in hand, scribbling the info down like a reporter. "B-Besides, I'm sure Kairi has an idea on what you guys can do on the date", he says in a assuring tone. Sora looked up from his notes, a smile of ease appears on his face.

"Yeah…you're right. I bet Kairi will know what to do", Sora says confidently.

*Other side of the school*

"I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO ON A DATE!", Kairi yelled quietly while pacing.

Selphie was torn between giggling hysterically at the over dramatic play Kairi was performing and calling somebody to help calm her down. This was a massive shift in tone after the brunet brought up the question on what her and Sora planned to do on their date. In fact, if someone didn't know Kairi, first glance one glance at her would make anyone assume she was taking something, or she could have won the lotto for all they knew.

The red head had a wonderful dreamy smile on her face the very moment she came to school (she had it on the moment she woke up), through their classes, during P.E and jogging, that smile wouldn't leave her face. Sure, Selphie was super happy to hear she and Sora were FINALLY going out on a date (her shipping coming true played a part in her joy) and is excited to hear what will happen. Then she asked the dreaded question that set off the panic within her best friend.

The very moment she dropped the question, Kairi's smile disappeared, a look of confusion takes over, then was replaced by her opening and closing her mouth in vain attempts to reply to finally her realizing she was incredibly ignorant of dating. It would have been hilarious off the bat to see Kairi overreact in such a cartoonish manner with her pacing, failing her hands and even give comedic wide-eyed panic.

The performer turned to Selphie for guidance, close to exploding with nerves. The best friend just smirked and says: "Well, you're going to the festival right? All you need to worry about it making it fun for Sora". Kairi blinked and lowered her arms, nodding. Maybe she was over thinking it, all things considered while there were certainly more benefits with dating, it was still just her spending more time with Sora. She started to twiddle with her fingers before a more calm and excited smile takes home on her face.

"So…hoping to get a kiss from him?", Selphie asked.

Kairi looked at her, then her eyes widen as her face practically turned into a tomato as she was afraid steam was hissing out of her ears. "KK-K-K-K-K-K-KISS S-S-S-S-SORA!?", she squeaks. Thousands of thoughts ran through her mind, kissing Sora, him kissing her.

Needless to say? Kairi fainted.

"Kairi!", squeaked Selphie, catching her before she collapsed to the ground. Last thing the poor teen needed was a concussion before her first date.

*Evening*

Sitting down on her seat with a cup of honeyed tea in hand, calming her nerves. The gentle ticking of her clock above her door frame leading into the living room helped put her at ease as the long hand slowly reached that time.

After coming home, the first thing she did was get all her nervousness out of her system by putting it to good use and face the worst challenge every girl faced when they were about to go on a date. What was she going to wear?

Truth be told she wasn't obsessed with her clothes as some of her friends, considering most of her life she was always wearing casual clothes thanks to the never-ending summertime their islands had. With friends like Sora and Riku she never had to really worry wearing fancy or "girly" clothes, heck she even tried wearing large shoes like Sora did once. And after falling three times in a row in a vain attempt to walk, never again.

Now though, ever since she got older and with Sora, she somewhat wanted to look nicer. Luckily for her she had the perfect outfit for an evening summer event. Wearing her dark red strapless mini dress with a beautiful flower pattern design on her back with a dark blue shirt underneath, pinkish white bracelets on her left wrist with a dark red brace band on her right. A pair of sandals for her feet and her pearl necklace around her neck.

She did her hair up by tying it into a ponytail while keeping her bangs neat, something Sora once said made her look pretty. And no, she totally didn't pin that in her memories for future references.

When the door bell rang out through her home, she gets up and approached it after one deep breath. "Calm down Kairi, you're just going out with your childhood crush", she thinks to herself after one breath, "I mean, sure you got yourself all cute, Sora's probably gonna wear those dark clothes again". Not that she had an issue, he looked amazing in black. She opened the door to greet her best friend…

It took all her power not to drop her jaw in awe at the sight of Sora. Not in his usual adventure clothes but dressed in a dark red shirt with his crown necklace hanging down with the top opened to give her a view of his neck and chest with a cream pair of shorts, a pair of tennis shoes. Not only did he look good but that cologne of his did something to her, and she liked it. He smiles at her and with cheeks darkened, he says: "Hi…a-am I late?".

Composing herself to not look like a gobsmacked fan girl, Kairi straightens up and smiles at him. "No, right on time actually", she assured, closing her door.

He grinned at the girl when they walked down the road leading to the festival. As they walked though, Sora offered her his arm. "U-Uh, d-dates are usually supposed to do this…right?", he says. Kairi smiles sweetly and wrapped one arm around his and leaned against him. If she looked up she would have seen his face had taken the job of acting like a red light.

The town square was the spot where the festival took place, there were dozens of people celebrating with tiki torches lit up, many of the locals dressed up in uniforms and costumes alike for the party. The wild frantic dancing that the dancers performed hypnotised the two young islanders, it was as if they watched the embodiment of flames dancing before them. The smells of wonderous foods that their tongues had long been accustomed to wafted in the air.

Never apart were the two islanders, constantly looking around and taking in the sights and sounds all around them. Hands interlocked together as they explored the island festival, taking part in games, listening into folklore and tales, enjoy their world's finest dishes and watched the dances performed around the large bonfire that was like a altar dedicated to a god of fire. Many dancers were on the stage, some couples and friends.

The two were enraptured by the performance they decided to stick around, but Sora was immediately taken in to the dance by one of the dancers and was shoe horned in. Kairi didn't mind per say as she sat down on the log to watch him perform, feeling left out but at least he was having fun. The girl who took him did strangely look familiar but with the mask hiding her face, (tiki masks that all dancers wore), Kairi couldn't place her.

Sora had taken off his shoes and performed the dance rather skilfully, which made Kairi focus more on him than everyone else. She smiled weakly as she watched him, but she must have zoned out because he was standing before her with a hand offered. It didn't take much for her to realize Sora was offering her to join him in the dance.

Unlike him she is positive she had two left feet, and she was hoping to avoid making a fool of herself on her first date. Yet when she looks at him, the warm glow in his eyes and encouraging smile, she feels herself unstrapping her sandals and allowing him to guide her onto the dance field. On the field, she allows him to guide her, to take control over their dance. As the instruments of the traditional dance picks up in tempo she feels herself let loose and allow him to led.

Neither would look away, gazes fixed on the other as their hearts quickened with excitement to the beat. The way he moved was like free-flowing water, the way he touched her to light the flames within her, their movement in sync. With her back pressed against his chest, she feels his hands holding her hips as they sway to the musical beat, she felt the warmth of his breath on her neck.

He spun her around yet never let's go of her, always keeping her close to him and warding her from unwanted company. When his hand released her, the two kicked up their tempo together and began a wild yet graceful dance together, around each other and before the other. Her heart was in sync with his own as were their feet, the flames behind them only intensified their dance.

The way the flames helped him glow in such a way it was as though she were in the presence of a deity of fire, while for him the way her red hair swayed wildly her tail getting loose mid dance, it was like the flames manifested into a goddess of fire. Hypnotized by each other as if they were at once trying to seduce the other, Kairi allowed him to embrace her and stare into her eyes as she wrapped her thin arms around his waist.

Hearts beating together as the flames brightened their eyes, Kairi could feel the gentle beat of his heart despite the other noises around them, Sora was the only thing she focused on. He gently brushes the bang from her hair, wanting those beautiful sapphire eyes unobscured and gaze deep into them. Sparkling eyes he could compare to the stars, Sora mustered up the courage and pressed his forehead gently against hers.

Oh how he wanted to show it, that glorious feeling he had for her. To show it through touching her lips with his own, but not here. Not in front of all these people.

The applause from the audience broke their trance and suddenly they realized they had just displayed quite the affection to the other in public. Cheeks dusted with crimson as they both shyly bowed and skittered away from the crowd, wanting to disappear for now.

Once out of the dancing circles, the two resumed their exploration of the festival.

*Kairi's Home*

Nearing mid-night as the moon beams on the islands, the two made the quiet trek back to Kairi's place. Both tired but feeling a sense of fulfilment and joy from today's events. Fed with delicious food, winning several games with Sora using his pocket dimension to carry their prizes, taking part in some dances and performances for the fun of it.

Kairi was walking barefoot, the sandy road was still warm for her feet with her sandals being carried by her. Hands still interlocked as they ventured back to Kairi's home. Reaching her door step, Kairi unlocked her door before turning to Sora.

Both were smiling shyly and cutely, neither saying a word. A part of the girl's heart knew here and now would be the moment when their relationship could change. She opened her mouth and said: "I, I had a really great time". That was a massive understatement, she had a wonderful time. Sora beamed and placed both hands behind his head.

"Me too!", he said happily, pleased she didn't find his first time dating as horrible as he feared.

Then she lowered his hand to scratch his cheek. "S-So, if you liked it, do you think, w-w-we could make it a regular thing?", he asked. Kairi smiled. "A-Are you asking me, to be your girlfriend?", she asked hopefully. Sora gulps shyly and nodded. "Y-Yeah! I mean…yeah?", he said sheepishly. Kairi giggled, how was he so clumsy and shy yet so adorable all at once?

"Then yes, I would like that", Kairi says, beaming brightly. Sora's nervous smile evaporates into utter glee and joy before he hugged her. Before he broke it however, Kairi wrapped her arms around his waist like before. Beneath the moonlight, their eyes met and that burning desire ran through their bodies.

Kairi stands on her tippy toes as Sora leans down, and then their lips finally met. Eyes closed as they tightened their embrace, kissing passionately. Millions of butterflies ran wild within their stomachs as their hearts beat faster and faster, tasting each other. Kairi never knew she liked oranges, especially Sora's lips tasting like the wonderous citrus fruit while she tasted like raspberries to the boy.

Her knees wobbled and she felt like she was floating in the air, and saying "good night" sounded like the absolute worst thing that could come out of her mouth. As their kiss broke, they stared at each other with panting smiles.

"Stay with me, tonight?", she offered.

"Movies and snacks?", he asked.

"Yes…and cuddles?", Kairi enticed.

Sora practically swept her off her feet, earning a girlish squeal of delight from her, and carried her into her home to extend their date. With some benefits now.

The following morning when Kairi's adoptive mother returned from the festival, she sees in the living room her daughter asleep on top of Sora on the couch, both covered by one of Kairi's blankets with a bowl of wrappers left within.

Her mother merely smiled and closed the door to allow them a day of peace…and to secretly gush that her daughter had FINALLY landed Sora.
