Chapter One
March 17, 2020~ The coffee shop was busy as usual. The Mayor had wanted a Caramel Ribbon Crunch with double espresso shot. Isabelle started to tap her foot impatiently. She was the next one up. The guy moves out of the way.
"Finally," she whispers under her breath. She's been there for a little over 20 minutes.
She goes through the order and moves over to wait for the barista to call her name. As she was waiting she slips on one earbud and plays her playlist on shuffle. She turns her head to look out the window but there is a tall figure in the way. She looks up to meet his gaze. He looks away shyly. He was wearing some green military mech armor.
"Sorry," he says, moving out of the way. "He looks kinda cute," she thinks.
"No, no you were fine."
"Nah, it's alright. I was standing in the way your view outside."
Isabelle starts to think. I wonder what he looks like with the armor off. Just then the barista calls her name. She had forgotten about the drink. She goes over and grabs it. Looking down at her watch, she realizes she is going to be late for work.
"Bye," she calls to the man. He looks back up at her and waves. "Maybe we'll meet again sometime," she thinks.
She gets into her car and sets down the coffee. She pulls out her phone and sees a message from the Mayor. It reads:
Hey. I see traffic is backed up on your way to work.
Feel free to take some backroads if you would like.
We have a meeting at 4.
She grumbles reading that message. She has been to more meetings in the past month than anyone has in the history of ever. She turns on the car and makes her way down the street. After a couple minutes, she was in the fast pass lane on the highway. Pulling into work about 30 minutes later felt like waking up from a dream. Isabelle was thinking about that man in the coffee shop. Will I ever see him again? Did he think I'm cute? This all abruptly started the moment she walked into work. She was handed a huge stack of paper and had to prepare some notes for the meeting. All she wanted to do was daydream about him. Her phone started to ring. It was the Mayor. That's weird, she thought. She picked up.
"Hey."
"Hey."
"What's going on?"
"We have a new guy coming in today and I would like you to coach him until he's ready… if that's fine with you of course."
She thinks for a moment. I've never had to mentor someone before. Eh sure, why not.
"Sure, just have him come to my desk after the meeting."
"Alright."
About 15 minutes after the meeting, Isabelle hears a knock on her office door.
"Come in!"
He walks in. Isabelle couldn't believe her eyes. It's him! The guy from the coffee shop! She feels her face turning red. He looks a little embarrassed too. Neither of them can make eye contact.
"H-hello," he stammers. "I came to apply for groundskeeper."
Isabelle has a flash of unholy thoughts go through her head. "Y-yes of course. The mayor let me know you were coming."
He hands her his resume and accidentally touches hands. They both make eye contact and look away quickly. She runs her eyes through his resume looking for his name. Then she finds it.
Stan Blazkowicz. Cute. I'm gonna get him hired. She looks back up at him.
"I'll run this by the mayor. You are definitely over qualified for this position."
"Thank you. We all have to start somewhere."
"Yep! I'll give you a call tomorrow to let you know if you get the job Mr. Blazkowicz."
"Okay. Oh, and please, call me Stan."
As he walks out, Isabelle looks up and down his magnificent body. Yes, we all have to start somewhere.
Author's Note: This is my first attempt at something wholesome like this. Btw this is the co-author of Tachanka's Playhouse writing this! Chapter 2 will hopefully come out soon! (Feel free to send in some reviews to let me know how I'm doing)
