There was one thing you can always count on from New York. Even in the dead of night with rain drowning the city in a blanket of water, the life of the town still goes on. Pedestrians still walk the streets in droves, this time with umbrellas unfurled and held high over their head to protect their suits and cases from the tears of the sky.

It's nights like this, that Sarah slowly came to realize in her years of living in New York, that she was thankful to be homeless in a town where anyone can find something to eat at any time of the day with just a simple snatch of a wallet.

With a grey hoodie drawn over her head, Sarah watched the crowds of businessmen and women walk through the streets, and endless line of black before her, only focused on the journey ahead and not towards someone in an alleyway.

Her eyes landed on one such businessman, this one wearing a blue suit with a red tie. He had blond hair and orange tinted skin and walked with a swagger that only someone with an ego that rivals his wealth. The kind of man who does what he wants and says what he wants and then complains about the repercussions of his actions.

The kind of person, Sarah realized, who would think nothing of it, if he had ran into a small girl. In fact, he would probably be so mad that she dared to waste his time that he wouldn't notice his pocket being lighter.

She sprang her plan into action, ducking and weaving between New Yorkers with all the grace of a shadow and the notability of one too. At the lost possibly moment, she tripped over her own feet and took the billionaire to the ground. Her hand glided into his pocket and wrapped around a leather bound object. When she finally hit the ground, she slipped the wallet down the front of her shirt. No one would dare search for the wallet there.

She tumbled gracefully before landing next to the billionaire who, confused, looked around wildly for the tackler until his eyes fell upon Sarah. His bewilderment was shortly placed by anger and he looked down at his now wet suit and then back at Sarah. "Watch it!" He said.

"I'm sorry sir." Sarah lied like a snake, "I was trying to outrun the rain."

The billionaire shook his head as he pushed himself up to his feet. "What's your name?" He asked as he looked around for Sarah, only to be greeted by the ranks of his colleagues who, up unto this point, had ignored him.

Where did she go? The billionaire thought to himself before turning down the walkway, oblivious to his, now empty, pocket.

Just around the corner of the alley, out of sight of everyone, Sarah rifled through the wallet. The ID had a picture of the man with the name 'Donald Trump' on it. Her eyes widened with delight as she pulled out hundred after hundred. This man must've been some kind of billionaire.

The next thing she pulled out was a card. It was a business card that bore Trump's logo with the words 'Billionaire, CEO of The Trump Organization, Future president of the United States, Philanthropist'

That last word made Sarah laugh loudly in the alley way. "Well Mr. Trump." She said as she discarded the wallet after robbing it of it's greener contents, "You certainly have done me a great humanitarian effort today." With that snarky comment out of the way, Sarah was off three hundred dollars richer than she had started the night with, being a whopping zero dollars and zero cents. She debated on what she would do with the money.

She debated on whether or not to buy food, then thought against it as she was not dressed to be in and out without arousing suspicion. As that thought crossed her mind, she decided on her plan of attack, opting to visit a hotel with a cleaning service to get her stuff washed and then head to a decent restaurant in the morning.

With visions of waffles in her head, Sarah almost didn't notice the man who blocked the entrance to the alleyway. When she did, she froze as her eyes locked on his. He started walking towards her. "That was quite a stunt you pulled." He said, "You've got to be more subtle though."

Sarah started to back up. Was this man a bodyguard? How could he have found her so fast? She intentionally walked a long way from the scene of her crime to avoid him and, last she checked, she was not tailed by anyone. Fear crept into her throat as she started to turn.

Then, as if overcome by a spirit, Sarah ducked and rolled out of the way of a missile launched through the air at her. Were she standing still, it would've impaled her in the back, leading to her inevitable death.

She spun back towards the man with her eyes wide. She scanned his arms and saw them free of any gun or crossbow or anything that could've been used to fire something at her. "How did you-"

"Hold still." The man said as something whipped out from behind him, "It'll hurt more if you move."

Sarah dove behind a dumpster as a volley of projectiles whizzed by her, slamming into the dump and causing her to shriek. What the hell was he shooting at her.

"I'm sorry!" She shouted as fear crept into her chest, "I'll give the wallet back! I promise!"

The man laughed as Sarah heard the footsteps get closer to her. The strangest thing about the sound was that it didn't sound like a human walking towards her, more like a dog or a cat or something that walked on four legs. "You think this is about money?" The creature laughed, "Well, you're somewhat right about that."

Sarah's hand darted into her pocket and fell around the handle of a small blade. She slowly pulled it out and flipped open her pocket knife as the man came closer. "While it is true this is a bounty hunting mission, nothing will bring me more joy than to be the first to feast on a demi-god like you."

He rounded the corner of the dumpster as Sarah sprung into action. She lunged at the man and sunk her pocket knife into his chest, causing him the wreath in pain as he thrashed about. She clung onto him as he started to try and toss her off of him. Sarah took her knife and stabbed him again.

A stabbing pain flaired through her arm. The next thing she knew, she was flying through the alleyway until she slammed against the brick wall of a building. She gasped in pain as she felt a warm liquid drip from the corner of her mouth. Her head spun as she tried to stand up, only to be smacked down by the man again, searing pain thrashing from the wound as she laid on the ground.

"A noble effort." The man said, "But your defeat was inevitable."

Sarah looked up at him. The impact of her head against the wall made her mind play tricks on her eyes for as she gazed upon the man, she saw that it was not one. Rather, he resembled a type of lion with a weird tail, one with spikes protruding from it. His head came towards her and sniffed her, Sarah feeling the warm breath of the beast on her skin. The sky above her was getting darker until her eyes shut.

Sarah…

She heard her name echo through her brain. It was faint, but still there.

Don't give up Sarah. You're needed. Live.

Something jolted her. Her eyes flashed open for a moment as the hazy silhouette of a human came into view. She could vaguely feel a hand on the back on her head and a metal flask held to her lips. She assumed it was water, but all she could taste was her own blood.

The silhouette said something that she couldn't make out as she laid in pain. He seemed to be gesturing to someone. Sarah's eyes closed again.

You can't die now.

Oh but how she wanted to. The pain burned in her arm and she could feel it course through her body. Her head was spinning and she could feel the blood trickling from her wound, mixing with the rain around her.

Open your eyes. Keep them open.

When she opened her eyes again, she felt herself being dragged. A bright light appeared ahead of them as people started to rush towards them. They were young, being around her age, though she couldn't tell much more than that. Her eyes faded bck and her head slumped back over her shoulder.

Don't give up. The voice in hear head begged, You're still needed.

Alsoome.

Wake up.

A/N: Hey! You made it to the end of the first chapter. I guess that means I must've done something right.

All joking aside, I hope you've enjoyed this. This project is one I've been tossing around for a while and finally decided to get back into it now that I'm back to trying to get into writing by reading the book that inspired me to start.

I don't have an exact update schedule, but I'll update as soon as I can so stay tuned and enjoy.
