Destiny
Volume 1
A WW Prequel Epic
Mount Olympus; 3205 BC
I sat on folded legs before the statue of my patron and sister; the mighty Athena. My body positioning was one of total supplication to her. My eyes were closed and I was deep into both prayer and meditation.
"I thought I might find you here..." The speaker, from behind me, was indeed the very person I was praying to. I smoothly stood and faced her. I bowed. "Your training is done now my little sister. You began your formative years on the island of paradise; and finished it off for the past century here in the heavenly realm with me and your Olympian kindred. You are ready."
I wasn't so sure. I'd already journeyed quite a bit into man's world while under her instruction. My time with my sister had prepared me well for that, but still...she'd always been there. She sensed my uncertainty and took my hands and squeezed them with sisterly love and support. "You are never alone Diana. We of Olympus will always be with you. Don't ever doubt that." "I don't..." "But you do. Believing in yourself and your familial pantheon here are one and the same sister. They are not separate entities. We are always in communion, and are always together."
She then led me by the hand to the edge of the temple, positioned on a magical cloud. We looked down below to take in the mortal world. "This world that our father has made in the fullness of time will continue to grow and impact everything else around it. This is where you will work your wonders for many years to come sister." "I have taught you everything that I know about the arts and sciences; I have conferred upon you the first doctorate of science ever given to anyone, man or woman. You will be their beacon Diana. You are a woman an amazon a goddess; you are the heiress of Zeus. Our brother War is out there, ever doing his worst..."
The dread of that hit me hard. She touched my face. "You doubt your ability to fight him..." That was a given; it had to be. He was Ares, whose very name meant curse bane and ruin... The gods were already eons old. I was the new kid on the block. "That is good though Diana; it is natural. I will not lie to you though... You will carry a burden that no one else before you has ever carried. Until you we all kept our most dangerous family member in check. But now...that duty will be yours. He is the greatest adversary of all creation; and you are the only one in the end that can stop him. You were created for two reasons above all Diana - to stop Ares, and to succeed our father as creation's ruler when the time comes. You will do countless many other things as well; but this was why you were conceived in Hippolyta's womb while our father made love to her."
"Take some more time to prepare yourself, for as creation's guardian and savior you will need it." "Sister...will you pray with me to our father?" She smiled. "Of course." We sat upon the floor held hands and formed a perfect communion of gods and sisters; then we reached out to our father, the maker of all. I prayed to him for the strength to carry out this most important of missions. Despite its incalculable weight there was some solace that came to me. It was father, and my sister here, reaching into my soul to truly prepare me for laid ahead; to remind me that I was never alone. There would be no rituals or initiation ceremonies for this messianic office; there would just be holy/righteous actions sought to be performed in pursuit of the Truth; which I was the goddess of.
Soon enough, it would be time to begin the greatest adventure ever undertaken...
