Chapter One

Snow fell, delicate flakes dancing past the window panes of the shared apartment. The heater for the building was on the fritz again, and it was highly unlikely that the owner of the building was going to repair it anytime soon, leaving the pair to endure the cold of winter.

A small woman lay curled up on the room's sofa, shivering beneath a plush lavender blanket. A yawn escaped her lips as she shuddered and burrowed deeper into her cozy night shirt and blanket.

"Lady Mera." A cheerful voice rang from the direction of the apartment's small kitchen to call her attention. The tall, toned man whom the voice belonged to emerged, carrying a tray of biscotti, tea, and pain killers.

She glanced up from her fluffy fortress, prominent dark circles glaring at him. "Indus? Just set it down on the table..."

"As you wish, Lady Mera." He gleefully set the tray down, taking the bottle from it and handing it to her.

Mera took the bottle and popped it open, pouring a couple pills out, downing them. "How many times do I have to tell you to stop calling me that?"

"I'm sorry my lady."

"Shut up, Indus." She grumbled. He lowered his head. There was a moment of silence between the two before she looked up at him again, a pensive look on her face. Mera stood from the sofa, still wrapped in her blanket. "Sit."

He looked up as the order was given. "Ok." He wasn't one to question things, so he went right over and sat on the sofa.

Satisfied at this, Mera sat back down, this time on top of Indus, snuggled against his chest with a quiet sigh of contentment.

"Lady Mera? What are you doing?" He asked, looking down curiously at the tiny figure in his lap.

"Shut up. You're warm." She muttered with a blush. Mera felt movement beneath her and looked up, seeing a second blanket being wrapped around herself and her bodyguard.

She looked away, giving a curt "thanks." Out of embarrassment. Indus gave a smile in return, giving her her tea.
