A/N To clarify some things, pretty much everything on the show happens in seasons 1,2,3 and 4 except Cami being bitten by Lucien. Dahlia will still be alive and Hope has a twin as said in the summary of this story.
Salvatore Boarding School For The Young And Gifted was a really boring school. Hope had been coming here since she was seven and yet everything was the same routine every single day. She'd wake up, go to each of her classes and eventually go to bed feeling her usual dread to wake up the next day. Hope tried to carry on her day without the thought of a certain someone who used to call her princess.
Of course, that was nearly impossible, almost everyone at her school knew who he was. Little rumors spread here and there about her father and usually, that didn't bother her. What bothered her was how they say it.
They said things about her father as if they knew him. They said things that made Hope wonder why she was the only one who didn't see Klaus Mikaelson as this big bad scary monster everyone says he is.
Hope really didn't have much to run off on besides what she remembers when she was younger. Maybe those strangers had a right to talk about her father the way they do. after all, Hope hadn't seen him in years. How could she defend his name to strangers when he himself was a stranger as well?
This wasn't fair.
How could the world allow Hope to become sibling-less and alone? Why did the world think that Hope losing her only sister wasn't enough? Must the universe hate her family so much that some mysterious evil needed to separate her family from each other?
At least Hope wasn't completely family-less. She had her mother and her aunt. Occasionally one of her father's friends stops by to check in on her. Her name was Cami. Apparently, Hope's father and Cami were close, probably not close enough considering how he left both of them.
Cami was nice. She told Hope a few stories about her father. From her words, Hope's father seemed like the very man she thought he was. Not the monster that everyone sees but someone who's adapted differently from the cruelty of the world.
But there will always a small doubt that maybe Cami was just telling her what she wanted to hear.
To Cami, Hope was a lot like her father. Maybe it was because of Hope's small temper and her ability to find trouble or cause it. Though Hope's similarities aren't awed by her mother. Hayley always tries her hardest to correct Hope, to push her into the right path.
But what if that's not the path she wants to walk on? What if Hope found a different path that was only laid out by her father.
One skill Hayley does encourage is Hope's love for art. Both Cami and Hayley have told her that her father was a sucker for art. Hope's seen some of his pieces too, she takes inspiration from them sometimes. But seeing his art and making art with him are two different stories.
Hope remembers vaguely sitting with her father when she was younger, back then he had been so gentle with her. Back then Hope didn't have to worry about anything as long as Klaus was around to hold her into his arms.
Klaus's spot in Hope's heart burnt deeper than anything she had ever missed, hated, or loved.
Hope also took her father's absence as another inspiration in her art.
She scribbled into her sketchbook with her cheek squished into the palm of her hand. Whatever Mrs. Booth was teaching went right over Hope's head. Hope focused more on her drawing, which in no surprise was a recreation of her father.
The drawing was of a small girl, her hair covered half of her face and her knees were pulled up close to her chest. Behind her was a shadow of a man with his back facing the little girl. Around the young girl were flowers rotting away, and like a trail, more flowers were colored black and led to the shadow man. In a small space of the page was a sentence which read;
"In the end, we were left alone."
Hope jumps a little, shutting her sketchbook instantly. Beside her was her only friend, Henry.
Henry raised an eyebrow at Hope. "You are full emo aren't you?"
Hope rolled her eyes, "Didn't I tell you to never look at my sketchbook."
Henry shrugs, "I'm bored."
Hope returns to her unfinished sketch and continued to shade. Occasionally, she'd glance over at Henry to make sure he wasn't being so nosy. Just as she was about to add the finishing touches, a small paper ball lands on her sketchbook page.
Hope looks up to catch the culprit. Her eyes spot a group of boys staring directly at her with the biggest grins on their faces. One of the boys threw another paper ball toward Henry this time, the boys burst out into snickers.
"Must they be the most annoying creatures on Earth?" Hope asked, she flicked the paper ball thrown at her onto the ground.
Henry chuckles, "That's vampires for you… oh wait, does that offend you?"
Hope shakes her head, "No, but maybe when I become bloodthirsty, I'll be offended."
Hope sighed as another paper ball was thrown at them. Before the boys could throw another, Hope used her magic to freeze the paper ball in the air and threw it back at them. Unfortunately for Hope, Mrs. Booth sees this.
Mrs. Booth crossed her arms and glared toward Hope. "Miss Marshall, let's not make this another incident." She says sternly.
"But they were—"
Mrs. Booth interrupts, "Please, we can all do without your excuses for one day, or must I send you to the office?"
Before Hope could object, Henry nudges her leg with his. "Just let it go. I can't bear another day here if you're suspended again." Henry whispers.
Hope shares a look with Henry, "No, Mrs. Booth." Hope rolled her eyes but leaned back into her seat. "I'm holding my tongue for now." She whispered to Henry.
Luckily for Hope, the bell rings seconds later. Both Henry and Hope walk out of class. The boys from earlier came out of the classroom to roughly knock against Henry while slapping the back of his head.
"God, I'd do anything to be like them." Henry grunted.
Hope raised her eyebrow, "I thought you hated them."
"Well, I do. But look at them. They always seem to be in control of everything. Here, and in New Orleans. And all they have to do is drink blood." Henry stares at the boys as they walk further off into the distance. "You don't see them turning into a beast. You'd think we'd be the most feared."
"Sometimes it's better to blend in." Hope replies with a shrug.
"Easy for you to say, no one bullies you."
"Lizzie Saltzman and Alyssa Chang do." Hope remarked, "Half the time I don't know what's going on but I know when someone's laughing at me rather than with me."
"Doesn't count, they bullied everyone." Henry says, his eyes scan the halls at the other students. "Roman and his friends always bully me. At least with Lizzie and Alyssa, they don't constantly beat you up." Henry then tugs Hope into a little corner with a question slipping from his lips.
"Can you do me a favor?"
"That depends, what is it?" Hope asked.
"Can you turn me into a hybrid?"
Hope's eyes widened, she quickly covered his mouth. "Shh! I don't want the whole school knowing what I am."
"But you give your blood away like all the time!" Henry exclaimed.
Hope rolled her eyes, "it was one time! Plus, that kid hasn't come back to school yet. I think that's a pretty clear idea that this isn't something you want."
Henry placed his hands on Hope's shoulders, "you're wrong. This is something I want. I need this."
Hope sighed, "trust me, you don't."
"Hope, you don't understand." Henry frowned, "i need this more than anything. Roman and his friends won't think twice about messing with me if I'm half of what they are."
Hope grimaced, "I don't think that's how it works, take notes from me. Being a Tribrid is not that fun."
"Please?" Henry pouted, "I'll do anything you want."
Hope shook her head, "Sorry, I was already paranoid the first time and I'm definitely not letting my best friend make a dumb mistake."
"Come on, this could be your early birthday gift to me." Henry replied. "Which means I won't make you go to Hunt Night with the pack anymore…"
Hunt night was an absolute nightmare for Hope. Usually, Hunt night consisted of the Crescent pack abandoning their small cabin homes to adventure out into the woods. Apparently, it's supposed to be some learning experience on how to survive if a wolf was all alone. Hunt nights are mostly for the young wolves who hadn't triggered their curse yet which were led by the adults who know the Bayou well.
At first, it was fun. It was nice for Hope to hang around her pack members but as Hope grew older, she noticed strange behavior by the other pack members. It was hard enough to stand by as someone insulted her mother for being a hybrid, but now their eyes and insults traveled toward Hope. The pack members were never loud about their opinions though, which felt nice sometimes but the obvious whispers felt worse.
Hope would do anything to pass on nights like that. Her mother started tending to more business which left Hope alone with a group of hateful wolves and her only friend Henry.
Henry was the only reason Hope bothered to show up at this point. It was hard letting that boy down sometimes.
Hope knew that Henry wasn't going to enjoy the transition a vampire goes through, the poor kid hadn't even triggered his curse yet.
Hope glanced away from Henry, she could say no again and leave it as that. But Henry was so desperate. There was a doubt that making Henry a hybrid could ruin him rather than help him and Hope didn't want to be the source that caused her friend's downfall. At the same time, Henry was someone Hope had trouble saying no to. With a final sigh, Hope turned back to Henry.
"Can I think about it?"
"I can pay you." Henry bargained.
Hope thought for a second. Missing out on Hunt night didn't sound so bad… Neither was getting the money.
"Okay, fine. I will do it. But, I need the money first. And you are not to beg me to join you for another Hunt night, deal?"
Henry nodded with a smile, "Deal!" Henry reaches for Hope's hand to shake them eagerly. "I'll get you the money soon." Hope smiles in return before Henry pulled his hand back. With a final nod, Henry walked off into the opposite direction.
Hope continued to walk in the halls by herself. Her mind was a little too occupied with thoughts for Hope to realize someone was walking straight up to her. In a blink of an eye, Hope bumps into another student and the sound of a cup bursting against her chest fills her ears.
"Sorry!" Hope backed away from the student.
"Ugh. Shouldn't you be somewhere in a corner with your pathetic boyfriend? What's his name? Hayden?" Alyssa placed her fingers under her chin. She tapped her chin a few times before giving up. Before she could continue to torment Hope, Hope mumbled a response.
"He's not my boyfriend." Hope tries to walk around Alyssa but she stops her. Hope tries to walk around her again but Alyssa purposely stands in the way. Hope closed her eyes and tried to be patient. Come on, remember what mom told you. Hope opens her eyes and Alyssa smirks as she knocks Hope's sketchbook out of her arms using magic.
"Oops." Alyssa pouts for a split second. She roughly pushed Hope to the side and practically stumped her food on Hope's sketchbook that was now soaking up coffee.
Hope bends down to pick up her sketchbook. Of course the page she had just finished was now tinted brown. "So much for ignoring them, mom." Hope muttered. She stood up to her feet and held her hand up with her palm facing Alyssa. "Incendia."
Suddenly, a small fire lights up on Alyssa's jacket. The second Alyssa tries to turn around to see, the fire grows which sends Alyssa screeching at the top of her lungs.
Hope giggles at the sight of Alyssa freaking out. "One point Hope, zero Alyssa." Hope turns on the heel of her foot to see Alaric standing right behind her with an unamused expression.
"Crap," Hope groans.
Rousseau's was fairly busy during the day. People of any faction all came together right here to have a good drink. Over the years, Rousseau's have become the spot for important meetings with representatives from each faction to discuss important issues that affect the city.
During the years, The representative for the witch community was Vincent and Freya. For the wolves, Hayley takes the spot, and for the vampires, Marcel had kicked the bucket years ago to run off with Rebekah and Josh took his place.
Cami was now the representative for the humans. She may have not been completely human after the whole Aurora situation, but there wasn't anyone else that fit the bill.
"Okay, guys. If these don't prep your liver for Mardi Gras, then nothing will." A fairly young vampire smiles at the group. She places a few glasses down for the Faction members.
"Eh," Josh replies. "My liver was probably dead before I became a vampire, but thanks, Poppy."
"Okay. So we should probably get back to Mardi Gras prep," Vincent says as he takes a glass for himself.
"Oh, come on, Vincent, we got this. All right? It's gone off without a hitch for, what, seven years now?" Josh pointed out, his phone goes off as several texts are being sent to him. Josh takes a peek at his phone before placing it back on the table.
Vincent sighed, "Josh, that's because we haven't taken it for granted in seven years. Let me remind you: moments of prosperity are invariably followed by times of great pain, unless we remain vigilant."
Freya rolled her eyes, "Thank you, Mr. Buzzkill." She took a sip of her drink.
Vincent turned to the other witch, "Okay, Freya, what you got, Mardi Gras prep?"
"The witches will be working on their float in the City of the Dead." Freya replied.
"The werewolves in the Bayou." Hayley added.
"A few tourists will be visiting to watch the celebration. I'm actually hosting the tour." Cami says with a forced smile. "Hopefully it'll clear my mind from certain… Issues."
Vincent nodded, an awkward silence surrounded the ground until Vincent cleared his throat. "Josh?"
Josh sat his phone down again, "Yeah?"
Vincent raised an eyebrow, "This is when you're supposed to say that the vampires are gonna steer clear of both."
Josh sat up in his seat, he scratched the back of his neck. "Uh, actually, maybe we should offer them some sort of incentive."
Hayley scoffed, "Seven years of peace and prosperity not enough?"
Josh leaned back in his seat, "Well, it is, but we could always use more daylight rings." Josh glanced back at his phone.
"Is this a negotiation, Josh?" Vincent asked. Suddenly, Josh's phone goes off again. Josh quickly checks it and Vincent catches the caller's ID. "Marcel." Vincent sighed.
"You know what? First of all," Josh flipped over his phone so that the screen faced the table. "Reading that was very rude, and second."
"Josh, I don't know how many times I have told you that what goes on in this city is no longer any of Marcel Gerard's business." Vincent reaches for another drink, and after downing it he continues. "And, guys, this is what I'm always talking about. Marcel means Rebekah. Rebekah means Kol and Elijah. And I don't even want to think about Klaus right now, 'cause apparently, he has lost his mind."
Freya looked over at Cami. The sound of her brother's name seemed to have struck a nerve with Cami. Freya noticed Cami's eyes looking away from the group as if she was trying to ignore the conversation that was being had. Freya cleared her throat, "Come on, we don't know if those rumors are true."
"I know that we need to make sure that they stay as far away from this city as possible." Vincent says, "And Freya, I'll be Mr. Buzzkill if it means reminding everybody here that the magic that those four carry inside of them, if we just put two of them in the same place, it is a ticking bomb."
Hayley sat back in her seat, "Relax. Okay? Marcel's in New York. Elijah is..."
"In Amnesia-land," Josh comments.
Hayley nodded slowly, "Right, and Klaus is wherever Klaus is these days. We're fine."
"Yeah… Fine." Cami mumbled. Cami held onto her glass tightly. The sound of Klaus's name was like a stab knife in the heart. The other Faction members share a look with one another. After the whole ordeal with the Hollow, Klaus pretty much dipped without a single goodbye. Cami understood that he couldn't be around for Hope's sake, but it didn't hurt any less.
"So, there's something else I think we need to mention." Hayley says, the group turns their attention away from Cami to Hayley. "A few wolves in the Bayou mentioned a group of teenagers causing mischief."
Freya nods, "I've heard about that too, Unfortunately we haven't found any leads. And All we know is, these kids are going to cause a lot more trouble if we don't figure this out."
"After seven years, something was bound to happen." Hayley shrugs.
"At least we can't blame the Mikaelsons this time. Right?" Josh asked.
Vincent takes a sip of his drink, "I wouldn't be so sure of that."
"Seriously? Who do you think it is this time?" Freya turned to Vincent.
"Not to point fingers but," Vincent sighed, "The littlest Mikaelson is a teenager.
"Okay, no. This isn't Hope." Hayley defended. "She may be a bit defiant but she is not terrorising the Quarter."
"How is Hope doing?" Cami changed the subject, "Sorry I haven't been around lately… Just needed some space to think."
Hayley smiles sympathetically, "She's doing great… I can tell she misses her dad. And for some reason she thinks acting out will help her feel better."
Cami grins, "The glorious teenager phrase. I'll stop by soon, see if I can talk some sense into her."
Before Hayley could thank her, her phone began to ring. Hayley checks the caller's ID. "Speaking of the devil," Hayley stood up from her seat and walked away from the other Faction members. She placed the phone to her ear and let out a long groan at the sound of her child's misdoings.
After the call, Hayley ambled back over to the table to collect her bag.
"Everything okay?" Freya asked.
Hayley swung her bag over her shoulder, "Apparently my child likes to set people on fire."
Hope sat alone outside the headmaster's office. With her head against the wall, Hope let out a sigh and closed her eyes. She wondered how many times she was allowed to get suspended before she's kicked out of the school permanently.
"You going somewhere?" Roman asked. Hope opened her eyes to see a him walking over to her with a smirk.
Hope nodded shyly, "Home. I, uh, I got suspended." She informed.
Roman nodded as if to show he was impressed. "Hope Marshall getting suspended yet again?"
"Gotta keep my reputation alive." Hope chuckled.
Roman laughed, "Well, I'll see you around Marshall."
"Yeah, uh, bye." Hope awkwardly waves.
Roman slowly backed away with a smile on his lips. Their conversation was short, very short but Hope couldn't help but feel her heart flutter. She cursed at herself for not keeping Roman around just for a few extra seconds. Hope looked away from where Roman came, she could feel her face heat up at the thought of him.
She felt stupid for even thinking about Roman longer than she should be. He hung out with incredibly annoying assholes yet his smile made Hope's legs weaken.
"What did I just say about you getting suspended?" Henry walks up to Hope, he sits next to her with a frown on his lips.
Hope frowned, "I know, I know. But Alyssa deserved it."
Henry turned to Hope and whispered, "How am I supposed to get you-know-what?"
"I would suggest you coming over to my house but I'll probably be grounded." Hope shrugged, "I'll figure something out."
"I could just sneak in," Henry suggested.
Hope giggled, "Just worry about getting the money first champ, then we'll discuss details later."
"I can't wait." Henry looks away from Hope, he interlocks his fingers together.
"Are you sure about this?" Hope asked. "You can always change your mind, but just do it before I actually take blood out of my body."
Henry smiles, "I won't change my mind, trust me."
Hope stared at Henry. She tried looking for any doubt in that boy's head yet all she could see was his determination. "Okay, fine. Just make sure you kill yourself discreetly, I do not need to be caught doing this."
"Of course." Henry says.
Soon, Alaric peeks out of his office. "Hope, your mother is here."
Hope shares a final look with Henry before getting up.
Hope follows her mother to a car and from the distance, three young teenagers peek over bushes to watch the scenario take place.
"Seems like our girl's got in trouble again," a vampire whispers to two other teenagers.
"Does that surprise you Jade? This girl's been getting in trouble since we found her." A young witch replies.
"You know, stalking her is becoming weirder everyday." says the boy.
"We aren't stalking…" The witch replied.
"Wendy's right. We're simply checking in on her." Jade agrees, "Plus, we have to keep updates on her for Ocean Eyes."
"In the most creepy way possible." The boy grunts.
"Diego, duck!" Suddenly, Wendy drags Diego to the ground along with Jade. Hayley's car had finally driven by and slowly, the three teens got back up.
Diego hisses, "You know, I'm getting tired of these sticky birds!"
Wendy rolled her eyes, "you complain too much for a wolf."
"What's that supposed to mean?"
As Diego and Wendy bickered on, Jade noticed the plants beneath them growing old. Jade furrowed her eyebrows in confusion, "Guys…" Right before her eyes, the plants started dying. Both Wendy and Diego watched the plants around them turn black and dry.
"You don't think she knows we're watching her right?" Diego inquired.
"I don't know…" Wendy glanced around the empty street them. "But let's not wait to find out."
Jade and Diego silently agreed and turned their backs away from the school and walked further into the forest.
Their next stop, back to New Orleans.
Being in the car with an upset Hayley was a very awkward nightmare. Hope and Hayley have had their fair shares of arguments, they usually were about Hope's behavior in school but even arguing was better than straight silence.
Once they arrived at the compound, Hayley got out of the car and shut the door without a word coming from her mouth. Hope followed behind slowly with her head down. After Hayley walked into the kitchen, it was obvious she wasn't going to say anything.
"Sorry," Hope murmured.
Hayley paused in front of the fridge, she glanced toward her daughter. "Sorry for what?"
Hope stuttered, "Uh… F-for hurting someone?"
Hayley opened the fridge with a sigh. "This is the fourth time you've been suspended. Are you trying to get kicked out?"
"Not Necessarily! People are just assholes, that girl deserved it!" Hope argued.
"Do you hear yourself, Hope?" Hayley asked, "You lit a girl in fire! Don't you feel remorseful?"
"Not really."
Hayley stared at her daughter. Even if Klaus wasn't here to raise her, she'd still have that dark part in herself that she wasn't afraid to let out. Hayley loved her daughter beyond words but she wasn't sure what to do at this point. Hayley wasn't prepared to raise a little Klaus.
"So what happens now? Am i grounded?" Hope asked.
"It seems like Everytime you're out of this house there is something going on. So yes, you're grounded." Hayley opened the fridge and pulled out a few stuff for dinner.
"For how long?" Hope asked.
"Until I say so."
Hope rolled her eyes, "You can't keep me here forever!"
Hayley kinked an eyebrow, "Want to bet on that?"
"I'm a witch, I can just get myself out of here." Hope crossed her arms, a small smirk forming on her lips.
"Hope, go up to your room. I need to make a call."
Hope stood her ground and watched her mother prepare dinner. Hayley glanced up, "Hope, go to your room."
"Who are you going to call? Dad?" Hope asked, there was a sudden softness to Hope's voice.
Hayley bit her lip, "Can you please go up to your room?" Hayley pretended she didn't see the small disappointment in her daughter's eyes.
What Hayley couldn't pretend she didn't see was the rotted plants on her drive back home. It was clear that Klaus and Elijah couldn't stay away from each other for long, and before matters got worse, Hayley needed to have a talk with Hope's father.
Hope goes to her room and for the past few minutes she laid in bed, she tried painting and eventually just sat at her window. The sky was getting dark and she thought her mother wasn't going to miss her if she left the compound for a few minutes.
Hope sneaks out her window and leaves the compound and finds herself walking in the forest, a forest she's been to plenty of times. At night, the woods were a peaceful place for Hope to think. Hope wondered if this place would feel different whenever she triggers her curse, whenever that would be.
Hope dug her hands into her pockets and walked for a few more minutes in silence.
"Stop."
A low whisper speaks out. Hope pauses, she turns her head a little to hear whoever had whispered to her. She turned her head different angles several more times and hadn't heard another sound. Hope slowly steps forward, she narrowed her eyes yet she couldn't see a thing.
Hope then picks up her pace and starts speed walking forward. Out of the corner of her eye, someone bolts toward her and with an extremely tight hold on her arms. Someone pushes her onto the ground.
Hope groans in pain as someone sits their weight on top of her. "Ugh! Get off!" Hope fights against the person on top of her but it was no use.
"Well, well, well."
An older woman stands in front of Hope with a devilish smile. "Looks like we caught a little wolf wandering."
Hope grunts, her head is pressed against the ground by someone's rough hand.
"Luckily, we get to take out the trash." The woman chuckles. Hope shuts her eyes tight and lets out a battle cry. In response, fire burns the ground from around her. The person on top of her pulls their leg back and hops off of Hope's back while clinging to their leg.
Hope stands up quickly and balls her fist up toward the older woman in front of her. The woman's smirk washed off quickly when she felt the aching pain in her head. She cried out and in response, Hope's head was beginning to burn. "Ugh!" Hope groans, she falls to the ground and clutches her head.
"Poor, poor child." The woman shakes her head, "You'll make things worse if you fight."
Hope glares up at the woman, she clenched her jaw. Hope feels the man who held her on the ground kick her on the side with extreme force. Hope cries out as the man wrapped a pair of cuffs on Hope's wrists.
"We need to make this quick, come on." The woman says urgently.
The man wraps a bag over Hope's head. Hope suddenly felt the head pain vanish and something behind her letting out a fierce growl. Hope stays on her knees as a battle unleashes around her. Luckily the battle wasn't long and Hope could hear footprints running further away from her.
"Hello?" Hope pulled against her restraints.
Someone pulls the bag off of her head, Hope lets out a sigh of relief.
"Hi there, stranger." Diego smirked. Hope stared at the one person she had made a hybrid months ago standing right in front of her with a charming smile. "I see your loss of words." He chuckled.
"Wh—what are you doing here?" Hope asked.
"Oh you know, saving my sire." Diego answered.
Wendy appears from behind a few trees. "You're lucky we got here when we did."
"Who knows what would've happened if those vampires killed you." Jade breaks off the cuffs around Hope's wrist.
Hope turned around to face Jade and Wendy, "Who are you?"
Wendy extends her hand for a hand shake, "I'm Wendy."
"I'm Jade." The vampire waved.
Hope stands up with the help of Diego and Jade hands her a handkerchief. Hope takes it to wipe the blood from her eyes, and awkwardly, she handed it back. "I'm Hope…"
Jade grinned, "We know."
Hope nodded quietly, she stood up straight. "Uh, So… Why uh, why did you help me?"
Wendy and Jade share a look.
"Well, let's just say we're a family friend." Jade replied.
Hope raised an eyebrow, "what family specifically?"
Wendy tilted her head, she was looking past Hope at someone else. "She's a lot closer to you then you think."
Hope stares at the two girls in confusion.
"The suspense is killing me."
Hope slowly turns around to see a girl smiling right back at her.
Faith ambled closer to Hope.
"Hello sister."
