Chapter 1: Reality
"Been so long since I seen your face
Or felt a part of this human race
I've been living out of this here suitcase for
way too long
A man needs something he can hold onto
Nine-pound hammer or a woman like you
Either one of them things will do."

-Charles Xavier School-
"I won't have to miss you." Ororo whispered, kissing me deeply, I held her close.
There was no other choice, we all die here or I go back in time and fix all this shit. I had to let her go, let my wife go.
There was a loud crash against the wall and two sentinel's tore their way in; one pulled me towards the furthest wall, crushing me in his arms.
A spike shot out of the other sentinel and lanced a giant metallic arm through her stomach.
Ororo fell to her knees, gasping as blood filled her mouth and her eyes filled with tears as she wept in pain.
"Grrrraaaa!!!" I roared, my fists slashed at the empty air. The sweaty sheets slid off my chest, the cold air coming in through my windows helping me relax.
"This shit ain't ever gonna stop." I grumbled to myself, rolling off my bed. I pulled on a pair of sweats and walked out of the empty room.
"Need ta smoke." I shuddered, damn near running to get out of the institute.
-Outside-
-Ororo P.O.V.-
Commanding the winds to take me far amongst the clouds, I allowed the wind and rain to cleanse my soul.
"Goddess, this feels wonderful." I sighed in relief, skimming my hands through my wet hair. Feeling a pair of eyes on me, I glanced towards the ground, and certainly enough, a lone figure stood by the area I had discarded my clothes at.
"Is there something troubling you, my friend?" I sat beside him on the fallen Log, a favorite spot of ours.
"Fine." Logan grumbled around the Cigar pinched between his lips.
"I hope this is not about Scott and Jean getting married tomorrow." I questioned sincerely, hoping he would be honest.
"I don't give two shits about that." Logan muttered, puffing on his cigar.
"If you insist." I decided to heed his words, sensing his unease. There was no need to push him any further.
"Any reason yer out here and not video chatting with that boy o' yer's?" Logan spoke up, pulling his cigar out long enough to take a sip of his Canadian beer.
"That 'boy' of mine has a name Logan, and if you must know, he has been extremely occupied." I insisted, feeling that same sadness that now came with speaking of T'Challa.
"A real man would make time for his woman." Logan's words weren't condescending or hurtful, it seemed as though he genuinely cared.
"Not every man is the king of a Nation." I sighed, wrapping an arm around myself.
"Hnh." Logan grunted, watching me carefully.
"You hurt?" Logan brushed a finger against my forearm.
"What?" I questioned, looking at his fingers against my skin. It was oddly comforting and I did not bother moving my arm away.
"That bruise right there." Logan traced a dark purple blotch on my arm, his fingertips moved tenderly.
"I fell in my greenhouse." I whispered, closing my eyes.
"Should be more careful." Logan rumbled, his fingers leaving my arm.
"I shall consider it." My eyes fluttered open to see him gazing at me with an unfamiliar look.
"On one condition." I proposed, taking this last opportunity to get the truth out of him.
"What's that?" Logan quirked an eyebrow.
"Tell me, are you truthfully, alright?" I took his hand into mine, waiting for his response.
"Peachy as ever, Darlin." Logan exhaled deeply, his shoulders slumped slightly.
"Very well then, I am going to head back inside." I released his arm reluctantly, not content with his answer.
I stood to leave but I looked down at him.
"Thank you for caring, Logan." I gave him a small kiss on his grizzly cheek, he smiled gently and I bid him a final goodnight.
-Next Day-
"You may now kiss the brid-!" The marriage officiant was cut off by a roar of excited cheers.
I felt tears fill my eyes and threaten to spill over as I watched my best friend kiss the love of her life, finalizing their marriage.
"Woo!!" Shadowcat shrieked, jumping up and down.
"Gee, those two sure do know how to work a crowd!" Rogue shouted, eliciting a roar of laughs from the crowd.
"Congrats Cyke." Logan clasped the other man's back in good nature.
"You know you are the last person I expected to congratulate me, Logan, but I appreciate it." Cyclops laughed heartily, shaking Logan's hand.
"Don't let it get to ya." Logan growled, fixing his tie.
"I won't now let's grab a beer." Cyclops gestured towards the small bar being run by Rogue and Colossus.
"Ah, got something better." Logan reached into his coat, pulling out a flask.
"Since when do you share your favorite whiskey?" Cyclops blurted out, causing everyone to look over.
"Just take a drink before I change my mind." Logan muttered and Scott apologized quietly, taking the flask gingerly.
I had been watching the interaction between the two men for a few minutes now, a small smile of amusement playing at my lips.
"He has been acting so strange lately." Jean's word's brought me out of my fixed trance on Logan and Scott.
"What?" I gazed over at the gorgeous redhead, her perfect makeup and the figure-hugging dress was enough to catch any man's unwavering attention.
"You can't tell me you haven't noticed Logan acting differently, it's obvious that something happened." Jean continued, sipping on her glass of white wine. Her bright green eyes staring at Scott and Logan, in the same way, I had done.
"I have noticed that he is more respectful towards Scott." I avoided her general question, she gave me a slight frown.
"Oh come on Ororo, He congratulated me! I couldn't believe it." She threw a hand up, her dress limiting her range of movement.
"For all one knows, he may have finally come to realize that you are no longer romantically available." I chose my words wisely, not wanting to upset her on her wedding day.
It was no secret how Logan felt for Jean but now it seemed as though his interest in her had diminished, for what reason was still a mystery.
"Or he found someone else." Jean's assumption nearly caused me to spit out my drink.
"I did not think of that." I cleared my throat, hoping this conversation would end.
"Whatever it is, I'm happy I can enjoy my marriage with the love of my life." Jean downed the rest of her drink before fixing up her lipstick.
"Speaking of marriages, how are you and T'challa?" Jean shifted the conversation away from Logan, I almost breathed an audible sigh of relief.
"We are doing as well as can be, under our circumstances." I talked passively, bothered by that same feeling of sadness.
Goddess, why do I keep having this sentiment over someone who is meant to be the love of my life?
Jean nodded absently, moments before bursting up from her chair and nearly falling over.
"Sorry, Ro, I have to go. I forgot our flight leaves in two hours!" Jean gave me a quick explanation before hugging me.
"Enjoy yourself, Jean." I bid her a hasty farewell, sitting back down and staring off at the half-moon.
"Come, Logan let me show you a popular drinking game from mother Russia." Colossus urged Logan, they walked past me before Colossus stopped.
"What's say you, Storm?" Colossus raised an empty glass towards me, a giant smile plastered on his metallic face.
"I'm quite alright, but thank you." I resisted the urge to have a few more drinks, I did not want to push my limits.
"A drink vill not hurt Ro!" Nightcrawler chimed in, teleporting to stand beside me.
"I suppose." I laughed, using a hand to wave away the sulfuric scent.
"Dat's the spirit, Ro!" Nightcrawler cheered, linking my arm to his and guiding me toward the makeshift bar.
"You ain't gotta drink if you ain't want to Darlin'. "Logan put a hand on my arm, glaring at Kurt. Kurt chuckled nervously, backing away.
"I would not mind having a drink." I reassured Logan, he nodded and went to sit back down.
Colossus handed me a fruity alcoholic drink and I thanked him, taking the empty seat he left beside Rogue.
The men huddled up a few feet away, preparing for the game Colossus mentioned earlier.
"Wolvie sure has been actin' strange for the past couple weeks." Rogue began leaning against my chair.
"He did seem particularly bothered last night."I offered, it seems that everyone has noticed the substantial change in Logan.
"Did he say somethin' weird?" Rogue raised a question subtly, looking at the floor.
"He assured me he was alright but his demeanor said otherwise." I recalled, silently expecting her to mention what was going on.
Logan and Rogue had always had a close bond, from the moment they were rescued and brought to the school and even now, many years later, their bond remained as strong as ever.
If anyone were to know what had happened to Logan it would be her.
"He ain't told ya has he?" Rogue sighed, brushing the loose curls away from her face.
"Told me what?" I wondered, studying her carefully.
This constant guessing game was testing my level of patience. I stood to fill my drink and Rogue straightened up.
"Wish I could tell ya shuga but I already said too much." Rogue shook her head, giving me a hurried hug.
"Night Storm." Rogue mumbled, walking over to Iceman.
I stood there dumbfounded until I felt an arm brush past mine.
"Ya headin up Darlin?" Logan questioned and I could not help but smile.
"Yes, I have a rather busy day ahead of me tomorrow." I admitted, putting down the glass I had just poured myself.
"Mind if I walk ya up?" Logan offered, much to my surprise.
"That would greatly be appreciated, dear friend." I linked my arm with his but he stiffened slightly.
"Is there something I said?" I worried, watching the light in his eyes grow dimmer.
"Nah Ro just been a rough week." Logan assured, patting my hand.
"If there is anything I could do to help please tell me, Logan." I pleaded, seeing him this way did not settle well with me.
"Just be careful with that T'Challa guy." Logan started our journey to my room.
"You seemed rather fond of him on my wedding day." I recalled, Logan wasn't exactly fond of T'Challa but it was more than I could say now.
"Yeah well, I change my mind." Logan shrugged, leading the way to the staircase.
"You are such a mystery." I teased, the playful smile never leaving my face.
"Dark and broody for my..." Logan's words trailed off, his eyes losing their playful gleam.
"For you Darlin." Logan cleared his throat awkwardly.
"I hope to one day better understand you but for now I must rest, T'challa is paying me a visit tomorrow." I interrupted, stopping at the entrance of my door.
"Tomorrow huh?" Logan muttered, rubbing his chin pensively.
"Yes, well goodnight Logan." I gave him a kiss on the cheek as I had done the other night.
"Night 'Roro." Logan returned the kiss, his lips lingering. I blushed, more so from the effect of his closeness than the alcohol.
-Logan P.O.V-
The elevator dinged quietly and I walked down the hall, stopping on front of the professor's door.
"Charles, You awake?" I knocked on his door, waiting for some sign to let me know he was still awake.
"Yes Logan, come in." Charles called out, I opened the door.
"Wanted to let you know I'm taking off for a couple of days." I didn't wait for him to say anything, I was about to close the door again but his words stopped me.
"You heard T'Challa is visiting." Charles assumed, sitting up on his bed.
"It ain't that." I grumbled, feeling the anger come back.
"You need to be honest with yourself Logan." Charles sighed, I leaned against his door, waiting for him to start lecturing me.
"Whatever you say, Chuck." I spat out, shifting my weight from one leg to the other.
"The truth will come out eventually old friend." Charles stated, smirking before turning off his lamp.
"I'll be back soon." I muttered, starting to close the door.
"Take care of yourself, Logan." Charles said, I had already closed the door but still heard it.
There was silent footsteps leading coming the staircase, I waited for the steps to stop before turning around.
"Yah gotta tell 'er eventually Logan." Rogue crossed her arms.
"Not you too Rogue." I tilted my head back, irritated as all hell.
"It's eatin' ya alive and she cares 'bout ya regardless 'o what yah think." Rogue argued, I knew what she was trying to do.
Shoulda never told nobody but the professor, that's what I get for bein' a nice guy.
"She cares about me as a friend." I grumbled, she got the message and dropped the subject.
"Where ya headin' off to?" Rogue went on, and I didn't answer right away.
Of course, the damn kid would know in leaving, damn nosy chick.
"Don't know yet, don't matter." I shrugged, it was the truth. I didn't know where the hell I was going yet, didn't think that far ahead.
"Be safe." Rogue gave me a quick hug, not leaving till I said something.
"Sure." I grunted, promising her that just so I could leave already.
She went back upstairs and I made it to the garage without being stopped again. I didn't bother looking back, even after I left the school grounds.
