Chapter 1: Easter fun.

John awoke to something or someone jumping on his stomach and then he heard a loud screeching in his ear. He wasn't quite awake, so he kept his eyes closed and hoped that whatever, or whoever it was would just go away.

Much to John's annoyance the bouncing on the bed and the screeching in his ear continued, so he opened his eyes and found a two year old boy bouncing on his bed and screaming, "Daddy, get up?"

John looked at his two year old son Torren and wondered why he was so excited, looking over at his clock he realised that it was 0500 hours and he decided that he didn't want to get up yet. He'd stumbled into bed at 0100 hours and he hadn't fallen asleep straight away, so he hadn't really had much sleep.

"T.J, climb in bed with, Momma and Daddy. We can all sleep for another hour or two and then we'll all get up together."

"Wha if Easter bunny comes?"

John could see the worry in his son's eyes, so he helped him climb into bed beside him and held him close. "T.J, if the Easter bunny come's while you are still in bed, he will leave your eggs somewhere that you will be able to find them, so please go back to sleep?" He practically begged him.

"Otay Daddy," Torren told him putting his thumb in his mouth and closing his eyes.

Once he was sure that Torren was settled, he rolled over to look at Teyla and realised that she was still fast asleep. Closing his eyes he was happy to drift into a peaceful sleep.

He awoke sometime later to the irritating sound of his alarm clock, not again he thought, why, was he being forced to wake up when all he wanted to do was sleep. Rolling over and looking at his clock he realised that it was 0630 and he was alone in the bed.

Wondering where Teyla and Torren were, he hopped out of bed and was suddenly hit by a sharp pain in his leg. Sitting back on his bed he rubbed it vigorously, to try and stop the pain, as the last thing he needed today was a visit to the infirmary. It had been over a week since they had visited the giant's planet to administer the vaccine for the Red Spot and he'd been on active duty a week before that. In those two weeks he'd had no problems with his leg, so why was it giving him problems now?

He sat still for a few minutes until the sharp pain had subsided and then he slowly walked to the kitchen to see what Teyla and Torren were up too. The sight that greeted him was hilarious, Teyla and Torren were sitting at the table eating chocolate and he wasn't sure who had the most chocolate on their face; Teyla or Torren.

"I see that the Easter bunny came overnight." He said trying to keep a straight face.

"Chocolit yummy." Torren told him, while stuffing more into his mouth.

"I must admit it is quite delicious and incredibly addictive." Teyla commented, while trying to wipe her mouth.

"How about we put it away and I'll make some bacon and eggs for breakfast?" He suggested finally giving into his urge to laugh.

When he had finally composed himself, he found that Teyla was staring at him, "what?" He asked staring back.

"John, why are you laughing at us?" Teyla asked looking a little offended.

"I'm sorry sweetie. It's just that you both looked so cute with Chocolate all over your faces."

"Well in that case, Torren and I will need to have a shower, so you will have to get breakfast all on your own." She said, with a twinkle in her eye, as she grabbed Torren's hand and headed off to the shower.

He sighed and started to cook breakfast for the family, his leg was still aching, but he was walking properly for now, so if he took some Tylenol he would be able to get through the day and with a bit of luck now one would notice.

Rodney sighed; it had been a long morning for him. Two days ago Sheppard had given him some Easter eggs and instructed him to hide the eggs for Easter Sunday. He had been up since 0700 hours preparing an Easter egg hunt for Torren. Jennifer had been gracious enough to help and for that, he was eternally grateful. He actually hadn't minded the activity in the end. One day he knew that he was going to ask Jennifer to marry him and he was pretty sure that Jennifer wanted a kid or two, so at least this was good practice.

He remembered the conversation that he'd had with Sheppard a few days before; Sheppard had come to him in his lab and asked him if he could help.

"Hey Rodney can you help me this weekend?"

"What do you want Sheppard!?" He'd snapped back at him.

"I need your help to set up and Easter egg hunt on Sunday morning."

He had sighed at that point, knowing that if he'd said no he would have sounded like the worst friend ever.

"I'll help you if you help me," he'd said to his friend.

John had looked at him strangely and asked him. "What is it you want me to do?"

"I need you to help me test some ancient devices today."

John had sighed at that point and answered, "Okay Rodney I have some time this afternoon, so I'll help you."

That had been on Thursday afternoon and now after only three hours sleep he had finally finished setting up the hunt for Torren, they had set up the hunt in the lower levels of Atlantis in the areas, which had been explored and deemed safe. He and John had decided that Torren would get a kick out of exploring some of the less populated areas of the city.

He looked over at Jennifer who was standing against the wall eating a chocolate egg and smiled, he knew that she certainly loved her chocolate. With Chocolate around her mouth and her hair all messy and undone, he thought that she looked more gorgeous than ever.

"Come on Jen, let's go and have breakfast, we're due back here at nine." He smiled and took her hand and headed off to her quarters for a much needed rest, before the hunt started.

He was going to arrange to move in with her after Easter; at least he was going to ask, he was sure that she would say yes, as their relationship just kept on getting stronger. If Sheppard could live with Teyla, surely he could live with Jennifer.

After sitting and enjoying an enjoyable breakfast, John looked at the clock and realised that they were supposed to be meeting Rodney in half an hour. "Teyla, do you mind tidying up while I have a quick shower?"

"Sure honey, but as long as you let me eat some more chocolate." She smiled at him with a twinkle in her eye.

"You can eat as much chocolate as you like Sweetie, but I must warn you if you don't want to be up all night with a sick child, I'd lay off the chocolate and set a good example for our son."

He looked down at Torren and realised that he was eating chocolate again, "Sweetie maybe you'd better deal with Torren, before you have any more chocolate."

Before she had a chance to say anything he was out of the door and in the bathroom.

Twenty minutes later he was out in the lounge again. He'd had a bit of a twinge in his leg in the shower, but it felt much better now and he was ready to go.

Teyla and Torren were both sitting on the couch waiting for him and there was no chocolate in sight; he only hoped that they hadn't eaten it all and that he would actually get a chance to have some later.

"Are we all ready?" He asked picking up Torren.

"More Choclit daddy?" Torren asked with a gleeful look on his face.

John just laughed, "You really don't need to eat any more chocolate right now T.J, but perhaps you can have some more later."

"Otay Daddy let's go?"

They arrived at their destination ready meet Rodney at 0855 and Rodney was nowhere in sight.

"I hope Rodney doesn't take too long to get here," he grumbled. He wasn't really in the mood for a long wait.

As much as he was going to love this Easter hunt with Teyla and Torren he knew that his leg was playing up and he really needed to get back to their apartment and rest it, before he ended up in the infirmary under Carson's supervision.

Rodney's voice startled him out of his musings, "are you ready Sheppard family?"

Looking at his watch John realised that it was 0900 and Rodney was actually on time for a change.

"Daddy we loot for eggs?" Torren asked with a look of confusion on his face.

"Yes that's right buddy, Uncle Rodney and I thought you might like to do a little bit of exploring."

He watched Torren look over at Rodney, "Tank you Unca Wodny."

John finally put Torren down and held his hand; Teyla stood on his other side and held his other hand. "Okay McKay how many eggs are we looking for?"

"I hid all the eggs you gave me the other day Sheppard and they're all in this corridor and the rooms leading off the corridor."

"You tum too Unca Wodny?" Torren asked in a small quiet voice.

"Umm…no, I think this should just be a family activity, but if you want to share some candy or Chocolate with me when you get back, I would be happy to eat some."

"Okay I'll see you later then," John said waving his hand at him.

Once he was sure that Rodney had left, he turned to Torren and asked him. "Are you ready to go T.J.?"

Torren looked up at him with puppy dog eyes and said. "More Choclit daddy?"

John just laughed as they headed into the first room. Torren let go of his hand and started to run around the room searching for eggs and candy. It was quite amusing to watch, as he kept missing eggs. For every one he found he missed about five. In the end Teyla had to help him.

"How about I help him when we enter the next room?" John suggested leaning against the wall, as he felt another twinge in his leg.

"Are you okay John? You look as if you are in pain." Teyla asked him with suspicion.

"I'm fine. Now if we've finished here let's head off to the next room?"

He was happy when Teyla let the matter drop and they were able to walk to the next room.

"Wha I do with ma Choclit?" Torren asked showing his parents his pockets.

"Momma has a big basket to put them all in."

John looked at Teyla expecting her to produce the basket that she was supposed to bring with them. "Did you bring the basket I asked you too?"

"Sorry John, but it appears that I have forgotten it." She replied sheepishly.

He sighed knowing that he'd probably have to go back and get it, "just leave to goodies on the floor for now and I'll head back and get the basket."

"Are you sure John, I can get the basket if you want to continue this activity?"

"Don't worry, you help Torren look for his eggs and I'll go back. I'll see you in about twenty minutes.

John left Teyla and Torren totally engrossed in what they were doing and headed towards the transporter which would take him to the more inhabited areas of the city.

Arriving at the transporter a few minutes later he stepped inside, just as he felt a sharp pain radiate through his leg again. Holding on to the wall for support he pressed where he wanted to go on the map and waited for the doors to close and nothing happened. He tried again and this time it worked. He stood leaning on the wall until the door opened and when he stepped out he was shocked to find that he was at the opposite end of the city, to where he was supposed to be.

Turning around to get back in the transporter, he realised that the doors had closed and when he tried to open them again, they remained shut. He reached up for his ear piece ready to contact Rodney and found that he didn't have it on him.

"Dam it." He muttered as he began the long walk back to the city.
