The air was warm, the sun was shining, and everyone in the City of New Horizon was having a glorious morning.
The amusement park had finally opened for the day, teachers were preparing for class before opening the schoolhouse, and even the bustling streets were crowded with citizens going to work.
Everybody seemed to have somewhere specific to be. All except for Mayor Sapphire Wolf of Nookville, who was laying back on the memory foam bed in the fairly large apartment that she and Isabelle were living in since their rescue from the forbidden zone.
But she didn't care at the moment about what had happened 6 months ago, when her old home was destroyed. No, the only thing she cared about was the baby that grew inside of her. She was only two months away, but she was eagerly awaiting the nine month mark.
She awaited it for two reasons: Lobo, a young wolf who had lost his wife on the same day Nookville was destroyed and agreed be Sapphire's partner to help take care of baby Hope, would no longer have to buy clothing for her to accommodate her ever-increasing size. And she would finally be holding her and Kyle's baby girl in her arms. So for now, she would just lie back and bask in her pregnancy.
"You take a lot out of me, you know that, right?" Sapphire asked the unborn Hope, who had started up her daily routine of kicking at her mother's insides. It wasn't painful, but it felt nice. Like butterflies in Sapphire's stomach. Plus, Sapphire knew that she was alright if her little girl was kicking, so she didn't have to worry.
But with pregnancy came fatigue and extreme hunger. If it wasn't for Isabelle and Lobo helping her out, Sapphire had no idea how she would have survived. She felt bad that Lobo had to go out and buy food for her in the middle of the night, but if it meant the safety of her and Kyle's child, then she wouldn't complain.
"Sapphire! I'm home!" Isabelle called, "Sorry I'm late, Lobo and I were buying groceries and it took a little longer than we thought."
"Oh, that's alright." Sapphire replied as she got up to greet her secretary and her partner. "I hope you're making my favorite food for dinner tonight!"
"Yeah, It's tater tots and hot dogs. We hope you like it!" Lobo told the human girl.
Sapphire smiled wide as Lobo set the table with plates filled with tater tots and footlong hot dogs with ketchup, as well as drinking glasses filled with ice and Coke Zero.
As Isabelle was lightning some candles to decorate the table however, she, Lobo and Sapphire didn't notice a mysterious shadow lurking in the cherry trees outside the apartment.
The shadow turned to be the sneaky fox named Swiper, the same con fox who would often take Dora's things and throw them in a place neither she or Boots couldn't normally reach without assistance. Swiper had secretly been watching the human girl and the two animals through the window of their apartment on the cherry tree branch in hopes of pulling the ultimate prank on Sapphire.
"Heh-heh, look at those fools." Swiper laughed watching the trio as they made their way to the bathroom to go wash their hands, "This is gonna be the best prank ever!" He then reached into his yellow messenger bag and pulled out a small bag of liquid with the label: oxytocin.
Jumping off the tree branch and climbing in the window, Swiper carefully tore a small hole in the bag with his teeth and poured it's contents into Sapphire's Coke Zero, chuckling to himself.
"Heh-heh, just a few gulps of this stuff, and that human's baby will be practically begging to get out!" Swiper laughed, then quickly climbed back out the window and onto the tree branch as Sapphire, Isabelle and Lobo returned to the kitchen table, ready to eat their dinner.
As Isabelle and Lobo began eating their hot dogs, Sapphire began to take huge gulps of pop from her Coke Zero can, finding the taste a bit strange due to the labor-inducing medication inside of it. Despite this, Sapphire was ready to eat now that her throat was wet and she began to mulch down her tater tots hungrily...however she paused as she began to feel strong kicks in her stomach.
"Oh!" Sapphire gasped.
"Sapphire, are you okay?" Isabelle asked, putting down her own can of pop.
"Y-Yeah, I... uh" Sapphire paused as sharp pains began shooting through her body.
"What's wrong?" Lobo asked Sapphire.
"N-no! I think It's...OHH!" Sapphire groaned and then let out a loud scream of pain.
Outside, Swiper held his gloves hands up to his mouth, trying hard not to laugh as he watched Sapphire beginning to feel the effects of the oxytocin, wondering how long it would take until Sapphire's water would break.
"Sapphire, what's the matter?" Isabelle asked, walking over to the human girl and placing a hand on her shoulder.
Suddenly, a loud splash was heard.
Sapphire gripped her stomach and cried, "Kyle's baby...IT'S TIME!"
"Oh Lord, this is so awesome," Swiper laughed as he watched Isabelle and Lobo escort Sapphire out the door of the apartment so they could take her to the hospital."I've really outdone myself this time!" He said, climbing off the tree, pulling out the hidden camera he used to record the prank and running back home to show the video to his partner.
However, he failed to notice that on the sidewalk near the apartment was none other than the speedy blue hedgehog named Sonic, he had seen the whole thing while on his afternoon walk and was not very happy.
He let out a huge sigh before thinking out loud: "That crazy fox has gone too far this time!" Sonic then proceeded to run towards the direction of the hospital.
"I've gotta go tell Sapphire and the others!" He shouted.
