Chapter 1

He stood there and observed her. How worried she was but mostly how tired she was. From the corner of his eye he saw Derek approach. The friend who had made him promise to stay away from Little Grey.

"Your mom used to see how tried I was. She used to make you bring me home because I was alone and needed family."

He paused and they both looked at Lexie.

"That was a good thing," he continued. "So, either you bring her home or I will."

"You don't have a home Mark," answered Derek.

"That girl needs rest. I have a bed. She's needs a family," he answered.

"Meredith is her family," she answered.

"Oh, come on Derek we both know Meredith doesn't want anything to do with her," answered Mark.

"She does or at least she's trying. That's why I told you to stay away," said Derek.

"I haven't done anything," said Mark. "I wasn't even thinking about her until you mentioned it and now, she's all I can think about and I'm feelings things and I don't feel things."
"Take her home," said Derek, before he walked off.

Mark turned and stared after him before heading over to Lexie.

"Hey Little Grey," he muttered, sitting next to her.

"You going to shout at me too?" she asked.

"No," he answered.

"Then what?" she asked, tiredly.

"Come home with me," he said.

"What?" she asked. "I'm not I..."
"I know. You need sleep just sleep," he said. "There's just something about you I just can't put my finger on?"
"What?" she asked.

"Why you're the only thing I can think about," he answered and stood up. "You coming?"

She nodded and stood up. "I need to get my things."
"Parking lot ten minutes," he said, before he strode away from him.

He entered the lobby seconds later and found Derek at the door.

"You're taking her home?" asked Derek.

Mark nodded. "There's just something about her."

"Mark just don't hurt her. Don't sleep with her and toss her away cuz Meredith might come after both of us with a scalpel."

Mark nodded, Derek walked away, and the elevator opened to reveal Lexie.

The drive to The Archerfield was silent as was the walk and elevator ride up to Mark's room.

"You want a shower?" he asked. "Food."
"Why are you doing this?" she asked.

"There was once a little boy. His parents were never home and he slept in a empty house but he couldn't sleep. You can't sleep in a house you don't feel safe in. This boy had a friend and this friend's mother told him to bring the boy home because he was alone and needed family. Your alone Lexie and you needed someone."

"Derek's mom made you part of her family," she stated.

He nodded. "Now room service?"
She nodded. "Please. I'm allergic to eggs."

"Go have a shower. You'll feel better and I'll see what I can do," he said. "Do you need clothes?"

She nodded.

"Ok I'll find something for you," he answered.

A knock sounded on the bathroom door.

"Lexie, I have some clothes for you,"

A mumble answered him.

"Lex?"

Another mumurer.

"Grey give me a coherent answer or I'll come in," he shouted.

"I'll be out in a minute," she answered.

She was soon dressed and curled up on the sofa with a hot chocolate and browsing the room service menu.

"Anything take your fancy?" He asked.

"Tomato soup," she said.

"Tomato soup. Ok then," he said.

"Yeah my mom used to make it and it's comfort food. Besides we ate here once and it was really good," she answered.

"Hi yeah can I get a steak sandwich and tomato soup?" asked Mark.

"Bread Lex?" he asked.

"Yeah please," she answered.

The food soon came and was soon gone.

"What made you do it?" he asked.

"We wanted to be taught," she answered. "Started small. At first, I was against it. I found them doing IV's in the basement. Yang actually none of the residents really taught us everything."

"You got frustrated with the system," he stated.

She nodded.

"Then I got kicked of a case with Hunt because of Yang who also got kicked off. The patient needed a chest tube and she shouted at me for not doing one when she never showed me how. So, I said I was in. We moved onto sutures. Then Meredith and Cristina noticed, and I suggested we tone it down. Sadie said we should step it up and made a cut on her back. Then toady one minute we were giving someone an epidural and a catheter the next we were trying to take out Sadie's appendix."

"Next time not that we want a next time," he said. "Go to someone. Best person Bailey or even the chief if you feel your education isn't being provided you needed speak to someone."

"I almost killed someone," she whispered.

"You did," he answered. "But she's ok."

"I don't know how I got to this stage," she whispered.

"Everyone hits rock bottom. This was yours. You'll rise up again," he said. "For now, you just need sleep."

She nodded. "I'm so exhausted."

"There's a bed just over there go and great some rest," he nodded.

"What about you?"

"I'll sleep on the couch," he said.
"Are you sure?" she asked.

He nodded and watched as she padded over to the bed, slipped under the covers and after a few moments slipped into a slumber.
