Full summary: "Reia is Momo Yaoyorozu's older sister and about to start her last year at U.A. With a regeneration-like quirk, she figures her options are limited once she graduates, so she expects an uneventful time for her last two semesters.
Despite being in the same class as "The Big Three", she respectfully kept her distance and never really befriended them. Without much warning, the three seem to be extremely friendly to her all of a sudden. Next thing she knows, she's suddenly friends with The Big Three.
Everyone seems to notice a certain shy boy with pointed ears pining over her, except for Reia. All bets are on to see how long it takes for her to notice."
A cool, refreshing breeze greeted her senses as she stepped outside of her luscious and spacious home. It was truly wonderful weather that the town was experiencing lately so Reia soaked up every ounce of sun she could manage. Still, having four seasons was what she preferred if someone were to ask her. It was just that spring happened to be her absolute favorite season.
There were festivals, sakura blossoms falling from their trees, cool breezes like she was feeling at the present moment, and just a general feeling of happiness that Reia couldn't really explain. Even on her darkest days, the cheery spring energy uplifted her spirits.
Peering behind her, Reia noticed that her younger sister still hadn't appeared in the foyer. She shifted her backpack on one shoulder and straightened her school skirt. It was uncharacteristic for Momo to be late so the elder sister did what she had to do.
"Momo-chan!" she called, cupping her mouth with her hands so the sound could travel through the exorbitantly large home. Reia had no idea if Momo was still in her own bedroom, the kitchen, one of the numerous bathrooms getting ready, or just dallying around.
Distant footsteps became louder as they hurried across the expansive marble floors. Eventually, her sister appeared at the entryway in front of her primped and ready for school.
Momo was practically radiating excitement. "Reia-neesan! We're going to U.A., aren't you so excited? I'm sorry I was running late, I just want to look presentable for our first day at this amazing school!"
The older sister smiled, shutting and locking the door behind the two as Momo stepped in front of her.
"It's really just a school at the end of the day," she chuckled. "I mean, yes it's a wonderful and prestigious school but there will still be days where you'll want to stay in bed, Momo-chan."
Momo nodded, her hair bouncing in the wind. "Mm-hm. But we both got in on recommendations so we must do our best to ensure our time there is productive!"
Reia smiled at her enthusiasm and watched as Momo clutched her own fists close to her chest and blushed at the thought of her first day. Reia had to admit, though, two years prior and she was the same way—she supposed. Excited, bouncy, blushing, and full of energy and ambition for what awaited her at the best hero school they could possibly get into. Time really did fly by, as she was now in her third and final year at U.A. Reia knew Momo would rave about her day after school and ask her millions of questions. She didn't mind…she was her little sister and the two of them were always close since their parents traveled so frequently; leaving the two girls home with caretakers, maids, and butlers to look over them and the mansion. Both Reia and Momo were understanding of their parent's busy schedules. And Reia had to admit…it was especially lovely when they would send over items from their travels. She giggled inwardly at the thought—Momo loved her foreign tea and Reia loved cultural trinkets from other countries.
The walk to the U.A. school grounds was quiet on her part. Momo did most of the talking, which the elder sister didn't mind. Reia had to admit that the thought of experiencing her last semester at U.A. and finally deciding on who and where she'd intern for was starting to become exciting the more steps she took to school.
She didn't have the most amazing quirk—she thought that her sister's quirk was far more exciting than her own. Momo had a quirk that could create anything she wanted and Reia had a regeneration quirk that could repair any living or nonliving thing. Repairing people were also included on that list of things she could do. Knowing how uncommon healing or regeneration quirks were, Reia knew the staff of U.A. eyed her and made not-so-subtle suggestions that she should intern under Recovery Girl. She just—didn't want to be a school nurse. Not that anything was wrong with it, the thought just didn't entice her. So, she was at a loss—even now as a third-year—what type of hero she wanted to be and how to apply her own quirk in the real world. Reia supposed it was more of a support quirk, anyway, and that the end goal would be working with a rescue agency…maybe even starting her own one day.
Sighing, Reia tried to focus more on the present moment as she entered the school gates with a flurry of clamoring students hurrying to their respective years and courses.
"Which class did you get into, Momo?" she asked.
Momo stopped, looking at the schedule in her hands and hummed thoughtfully. "It looks like I'll be in class 1-A."
"Ooh!" Reia cheered. "We'll be in the same letter! I wonder if the teachers did that on purpose…though some other friends I went to middle school with wound up in other courses based on how they did in the entrance exams. But the few who got in on recs seem to all be in letter 'A' courses…"
"Perhaps it's due to students getting in on recommendations that they place in the first class," Momo thought. "Regardless, let's go find out where I'll be!"
"I'll help you find it! I have a couple of minutes to spare before classes begin, anyway."
Once inside the spacious hallways, their ears were met with incredibly loud murmurs and conversations of fellow students who were excited to be starting their new day at the school. Walking with her sister up a couple flights of stairs, Reia was quickly met with another noise—one that sounded a lot like a loud thud and scuffle.
Startled, they whipped their heads around mid-step on the stairs to see a classmate lying face down on the floor. Fortunately, just her and Momo were in the vicinity; otherwise they were sure whoever this kid was would be laughed at by now.
Reia and Momo rushed down the rest of the stairs to help the male students from his spot on the landing. Several of his papers and books had slipped out of his bag and across the floor as a result of his accident.
"Are you okay?" both she and Momo exclaimed as the older one hoisted the boy back onto his feet by his arms. It was a bit awkward for Reia as he kept his head down the entire time, trembled, and fell limp once she picked him up…or maybe she touched him and he didn't like that. She couldn't really see his face to tell.
The boy was making a sputtering sound so quiet they weren't sure if it was him trying to speak or if their stomach was already protesting in hunger. His hair was messy and indigo-colored but what struck Reia right away were his pointed ears.
The boy stuttered a response, unable to properly form a sentence. Inhaling deeply, he shook like a leaf and slowly began to raise his head to look at the two of them. His face was extremely flushed and his lower lip wobbled into a frown. He seemed embarrassed, mortified actually, and they were at a loss at how to go about talking to him—
Wait. Was that…
The one kid from her class in 3-A? Reia blinked at the memory of a guy who matched his description sitting in the very back of the classroom. If this was the same person, Ama—aji—amaj—something…then she was sure he had barely uttered five words of his own free will during her years at U.A.
Oh, yeah. His name was Amajiki-kun. Why couldn't she remember that?
Momo frowned worriedly. "If you're hurt I can make a bandage for you quickly…as classes are about to start. Unless you need to see Recovery Girl?"
The boy shook his head furiously, clearly nervous at the awkward situation. It was just the three of them in the stairwell and he was just standing there, hunched over with stiff arms at his side. The two sisters noticed that his things were on the ground too and they weren't sure if he was going to pick it up...or let one of them help...or…?
"S-s-s-so-or-ry…" the boy mumbled quietly. Eye contact he had briefly with Reia had long faded. "I…um. I'm o-o-okay. R-really. I just, um…I-I t-tripped…"
Reia decided that talking about the situation would likely make him even more nervous, so she gambled on making brief small talk.
"Hey, you're in my class, right? Class 3-A?" she asked. He weakly nodded in reply, so she continued with a gentle smile. "I'm Reia Yaoyorozu. This is my younger sister, a first year here! But anyway, if you were on your way to class then I could help you—"
"N-no! I-it's fine!" he exclaimed, cutting her off all too eagerly. His sudden outburst had taken her aback, but it didn't offend her. He was clearly socially anxious and awkward. She just didn't want to make him uncomfortable.
Reia and Momo watched with mouths agape as he shoved all of his dropped belongings from the floor and back into his backpack. He zoomed up the stairs and out of sight, leaving her and Momo standing stupidly in the stairwell.
Well, if she had said or done something to offend him, he could've always told her. Was it a zit on her face that he got extremely grossed out by? Reia didn't really get breakouts anymore though...or did she accidentally forget deodorant? No—she was sure she put on mild perfume, as well. Perhaps her breath wasn't the most pleasant; even though she brushed and rinsed her mouth. Maybe she wouldn't have beef soup for breakfast anymore…
"He's a classmate of yours?" Momo breathed. She appeared concerned at his behavior. "Is he always like that?"
"He barely talks at all. I've never seen him that flustered," Reia shrugged. "Well, maybe he'll explain in class but I doubt it."
The elder sister checked the time and laughed, waving to Momo as she informed her that she'd be fine finding the classroom on her own.
Entering her classroom, Reia scurried down the rows and took her seat in the middle by the window, just how she preferred. As expected, the indigo-haired boy from earlier was seated in the very back of the class with his head down as he slouched; his nose nearly touched the desk but it was hard to even see his face with his hair always covering his face, anyway. A part of her was a little upset that he hadn't explained why he was so awkward around her—almost like her presence offended him or something.
Reia tried shaking off that thought. Honestly, it was so silly to be unreasonable like that and jump to conclusions. He seemed to be a nice boy, and in "The Big Three", no less! She was certain that he may have just been tired and flustered. Yeah, totally…so she began to feel better and adjusted in her seat.
A few moments passed before her thoughts were interrupted and she was met with another awkward encounter for the second time that morning.
"Hey, Yaoyorozu-san, right?!" A cheery voice and a large hand waved in front of Reia's face, stripping her from her daydreaming. The girl blinked, looking up to the source standing in front of her. It was the confident Mirio Togata, her fellow classmate and part of The Big Three.
Fortunately, the few other classmates in there, that had also arrived early, weren't paying much attention to the two of them conversing.
"Oh, hello, Togata. What can I do for you?" she asked innocently, staring up at the blond curiously. It wasn't as though Reia was close to Togata…the two of them spoke a handful of times in passing to each other and even then, it was usually about schoolwork, homework, or a project that they got grouped together for one time. They weren't exactly friends so why was he suddenly approaching her and being all friendly?
"I just wanted to say thanks on my friend's behalf today!" he smiled at her, thumb pointing at his chest proudly. "My buddy Tamaki back there took quite a tumble and texted me to say you helped him and saved him from embarrassment this morning!"
Wait, huh?
How did Togata know what happened so fast…considering that whole incident occurred maybe five minutes prior? Also, Reia reluctantly turned her head to the side and saw the indigo-haired boy out of the corner of her eye sink lower into his seat at the mention of his blond friend talking to her and outing him like that.
Poor guy. Was Togata sure that Amajiki was truly saved from embarrassment?
"Well, you—and he—are quite welcome," Reia replied, still confused but trying to be polite as usual. "I just wanted to make sure he was alright."
Togata laughed. "Oh, he's fine! He wanted me to thank you for being so kind to him like you were today! He's just a bit on the quiet side so don't take it too personal, m'kay?"
The blond smiled down at her while she nodded. "I understand, Togata-kun, really. I, um…"
The girl peered back at Amajiki, who quickly whipped his head to look at the wall. God, she grimaced at how horrified he must feel. Even if she didn't suffer the same type of anxiety he must have on a regular basis, she still sympathized with the thought.
"It's absolutely nothing I took offense to," Reia continued cheerfully, brushing a stray strand of ebony-colored hair behind her ear casually.
She just wanted Togata to sit down already and save his friend more embarrassment. The raven-haired girl wasn't sure if it was on purpose or if this blond guy was genuinely so dense that he had no idea how mortified his friend was as he listened in the back. He was essentially speaking for him while he was still in the room. That would have made her a bit uncomfortable if that had happened to her.
"Thank you for telling me," Reia concluded.
Togata laughed heartily and hummed in agreement as he took the hint to walk to his seat. She let out a silent, strained breath. Wow, she really must've taken on the anxiety that poor Amajiki-kun was feeling.
As the morning officially commenced Reia's first day of the semester, it was filled with both excitement and curiosity as to what the future would bring. U.A. was like a second home to her, even if she didn't have many close friends and was often too busy studying and working hard in her training to spend time with others, it was wonderful that classmates were friendly and genuinely seemed to like her.
She hummed contently, twirling some hair around her finger and peering out the window as the teacher droned on and wrote on the board. There was a gentle, unconscious smile on her face as she thought of all the exciting things that would await her.
Unknown to her, Tamaki Amajiki watched Reia hesitantly from his seat in the back corner; indigo-eyes flowing over her profile as he observed how kind and tender she was in that moment.
The lesson was long forgotten for the both of the students.
He knew Reia Yaoyorozu was always such a smart, respectful, and kind girl—so why did it take him embarrassing himself and being an idiot one morning in front of her to really see that from her?
Forcing his eyes to peel away from the pretty girl, Tamaki gulped and felt his face heat up exponentially.
It was going to be an interesting semester.
