Chuuya knocked on the door to Ane-san's office.
They had all assumed that Dazai had ended up in hospital due to yet another suicide attempt, and Chuuya would always take care of Dazai and help him pick up the pieces afterward. It had become tradition that Chuuya would have tea with Ane-san before his work day started. It gave him a place to talk it out, someone who would be sympathetic or angry, and never look down on him for succumbing to his human emotions.
"Come in,"
Chuuya entered, Kouyou had the largest office after Mori, positioned on a corner. She had blocked off a quarter of her office to make a relaxing space, two of the walls were floor to ceiling windows offering a view of Yokohama below. In the centre was a low table and Kouyou had filled the rest of the space with pillows, blankets and the comfiest furniture Chuuya had ever sat on. As soon as he finished hanging his coat and hat by the door, she gestured for him to follow her into the room. A pot of tea and matching cups were already waiting for them, Chuuya quickly took his seat opposite Kouyou.
"So, how is he?"
"Fine,"
"Just 'fine'?" she queried, usually Chuuya launched into a ten minute whinge as to why Dazai had done it, what ridiculous method he had chosen this time, and how Chuuya was going to use said method to end his life for good if he tried it again (both of them knew he didn't mean it, but it was Chuuya's way of coping with it)
"Yeah, Ango got worked up for nothing," Chuuya took a sip of his tea,
"Oh," Kouyou knew he was withholding information so was happy to bide her time and wait for him to tell her.
"Dazai had picked up a sick bug, and Ango found him passed out in the bathroom." He sighed, "I can't blame him for panicking, I've seen Dazai like that before and it's… hard." He took another sip of his tea, "everything's going to be hard now, I've got Dazai to take care of and they'll be dependant on me to, and" he trailed off.
"I thought they had been very adamant that you and Dazai could only see each other during his heats, why do you suddenly have to take care of him?" she asked, ignored the rest of Chuuya's ramblings.
Chuuya mumbled the answer into his teacup, blushing
"Speak up, it's rude to mumble,"
"Dazai's pregnant, about six weeks along" He stated, clearer this time.
"Oh, so you are fated mates, congratulations," she smiled.
"Congratulations? I'm, I'm going to be a father, at eighteen. I don't know anything about children, or babies or how the hell to deal with a pregnant omega, I mean Dazai's high maintenance enough. What am I supposed to do? I should be doing crazy things now like getting a tattoo or piercings not, not settling down and starting a family." His voice wavered; he was not going to cry.
"Chuuya we're Mafia not Yakuza, you are not getting a tattoo, and yes it may be healed by the time they are born in four and half months' time, but do you really want piercings where tiny little hands can grab and pull?"
"Four and half months?!" Chuuya repeated, "I've never even held a baby, and I'm, I'm going to be responsible for tiny little humans, and keeping them alive, and keeping Dazai alive. Although he's all content with this, smiley and happy and actually looking forward to having babies, and, and" the tears were starting to fall, "he's not scared, or afraid or concerned that we're eighteen and know absolutely nothing about family, and babies." Kouyou had moved to sit next to Chuuya, pulling him in for a cwtch, he resisted at first, not wanting to cry, snot and slobber all over her kimono.
"It's fine, I have a spare kimono here,"
Chuuya relaxed and let her pull him in, his tears turning into full on sobs,
"I'm so scared, I, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing. My alpha side is screaming to make Dazai comfy, make sure he's safe and the rest of me is just freaking out. It wasn't supposed to be like this, if we had a family, it was supposed to be when we were older, something we planned. We should have gotten married first, we would have beenready." He paused taking a deep breath, trying and failing to control the sobs, "I fainted when Dazai told me, he even offered me an out, like I'd be some sort of deadbeat dad, knock him up then be on my merry way."
"Would you take it?"
The question startled Chuuya enough he almost stopped crying,
"What?! No, they're my babies too, and c'mon can you see Dazai raising them alone, he can barely feed himself and what, what if tries again, for real? Odasaku hasn't been dead long and there's no way Dazai isn't going to handle this sort of life altering change without the help of a blade," Chuuya stopped, he hadn't realised that had been bothering him
"You're going to be fine," Kouyou had started stroking his hair to try and calm him, "even if you're terrified now, deep down you want those babies, otherwise you would have left by now. You wouldn't be sat here, telling me about this. As for Dazai, I don't think you have to worry,"
"What do you mean?"
"His omega instincts have kicked in, and strongly. His body wants those babies alive and him happy and healthy. I'm not an omega or a doctor so I don't really understand how it works, but I doubt he'll be suicidal anytime soon or for some time to come. Especially as you're both young and fated mates his body will be keeping him healthy and happy, ready for more babies."
Chuuya's sobs had turned into sniffles now, his face still buried in her kimono.
"I think you're going to be an amazing father, Chuuya. It may take you awhile to get the hang of it, but you'll be the most loving, devoted father I've ever seen, Dazai to. You two work so well together, and parenthood will just be like any other mission you've worked on, just, happier,"
"Really?"
"Yes,"
"What do I do about being so scared? I feel so useless, how can I support Dazai when I'm just, so, terrified?"
"Embrace it, tell Dazai how you feel, tell him what you've told me and that you'll be there for him, every step of the way of. It will only be temporary Chuuya, one day you're going to look back on this and wonder what you were so scared of."
Chuuya shifted so his face wasn't buried in her kimono anymore. Kouyou offered him a handkerchief from the sleeve of her kimono, he took it and wiped the tears away.
"Thanks, and thank you for listening,"
"Do you feel better now?"
"Yeah."
"Good, I'll freshen the tea if you want to go and wash your face,"
Chuuya did and when he returned Kouyou was wearing a fresh kimono and pouring their tea.
"So, where are you going to live? That bachelor pad of yours probably isn't going to be suitable."
"Dazai has a house, he bought it just after he started here, it is huge." He grabbed his phone and started showing her the pictures he'd taken of it.
"Nice neighbourhood. Is that Dazai in the corner?" she pointed to the final picture,
Chuuya nodded
"He looks happy, is he showing yet?"
"A little bit, he can hide it with a loose top but I think by the time we go for the eight week scan it'll be noticeable." He took a deep breath, this was okay, he could talk about it in vague concepts like this.
"Can I have a copy when you go? If you two will let me, I'd like to be involved in your children's lives. I've never wanted my own kids, but ones I can borrow? I like the idea of that."
"Sure, I mean, if you want," Chuuya smiled, "I'd love that, Dazai should as well."
"Thank you," she smiled, "I was thinking, if you keep it small and quiet you two could probably get married before the babies come to,"
Chuuya choked on his tea at that suggestion.
"You don't have to think about it properly yet, but why not get in touch with Ango, he could probably advise you better than I can, it's just an idea."
"I'll keep it in mind, I think it may be one thing too many for now though," his voice squeaked at the end as he tried to hide the fear Kouyou's suggestions incited in him.
The rest of his work day passed quickly. He made his way to the Port Mafia garage at the end of his shift, to check on his cars (his apartment only had room for one of them) and to borrow one of the trailers they held in storage. The staff in the garage didn't find it unusual as he borrowed one at least once a month to transport motorcycles he had bought to do up.
He made quick work of clearing out his apartment, most of the big furniture items he left, it still needed to be liveable when Dazai when into heat. As he cleared the last room – the bathroom, the feelings of fear started creeping back in, the urge to do something crazy seizing him as his hands wrapped around a bottle he'd forgotten about.
The sound of Dazai's laughter woke him up.
"What?" he grumbled
"What, what happened to your hair?!"
"There's nothing wrong with green"
"I guess it kinda makes you look like a slug," Dazai sniggered,
Chuuya lightly punched him on the shoulder, not realising Dazai was lying on the edge of the bed, until he fell off it, landing on the floor with a thud, still laughing.
"Shit, are you okay?"
"Yeah," more giggles,
Chuuya came around to Dazai's side of the bed, sitting next to him on the floor.
"I, I haven't been dealing with the idea of us having a baby, at eighteen, very well, and Ane-san vetoed my idea of getting a tattoo or a piercing. I found this dye leftover from Halloween when I was clearing out my apartment last night, and I just had to do something crazy. It'll wash out so it's fine, but," he paused, taking a deep breath to calm himself, "I'm scared Dazai, we know nothing about babies, or taking care of them or,"
Dazai's finger on his lips shushed him,
"Take a breath Chibi, we have plenty of time to learn, do you think everyone else knows what to do with a baby? No. But that's fine. We're going to do it our way. It wasn't my plan to be having your child at eighteen, but I'm happy, I've always wanted a family with you and now we get to do it even sooner." He paused, "and I'm kind of glad you're scared,"
"What?!"
"One of us has to be. This is a huge life change, one that we can't control and I'm too content, but Chibi will just have to be scared for the both of us," Dazai smiled, pulling Chuuya in for a kiss.
"So, you don't mind that I'm terrified?"
"Nope, you want these babies, right?"
"I think so, yeah," he placed a hand on Dazai's tiny bump, smiling "yeah, I've got four and half months to stop being scared, if you can grow healthy little humans in that time, I think I can do that."
"Good, as long as you stay by my side, I'm happy for you to be scared." Dazai smiled.
Chuuya pulled him in for another kiss.
He was sure now, before their babies were born Chuuya was going to make Dazai his husband.
Kouyou had no words when she saw the edges of Chuuya's green hair sticking out from his hat, although she was glad he'd found an outlet for his urge for craziness.
