Jane Kathrine Heiress

Claire's rewrite-version of Jane Eyre

By: Claire Teague

INTRODUCTION

Kathrine Heiress was born to the Duchess Sarah Heiress of Cambridge and the brother of King George the III. Princess Kathrine Jane was raised in the meadows of Wales and kept very well there. She made many friends with the villagers and was polite to her neighbors. She adored the sport to go hunting with the young royal parties and once raised a baby fox kit far from her brothers' dangerous hunting spree. Kathrine was the third child, but only girl of 6 children, 5 brothers and one sister, herself. Her younger cousins Madeline and Mary Ingram were very close, Madeline was the eldest and betrothed to Kathrine's second eldest brother, Prince Matthew James Heiress. Prince Matthew and Prince Daniel Heiress fought the great British wars of the American Revolution that ended in the year 1787, September 17th. When her 4th brother, Nathen, under Kathrine, died, her mother had another little girl. Sophia Tremaine Heiress was born to Queen Sarah and King Thomas Milton of Wales, under his brother's rule.

Princess Kathrine and Princess Sophia were very close, after Madeline and Daniel became rulers of Yorkshire, the Heiress family and the Milton Family reigned for 15 years. When Kathrine was 20 years old, Daniel and Madeline had two children already, King George's son was in-love with his cousin Kathrine, who paid no mind to a charming, foolish liar. Even for a Prince, he was a pain in the neck. Kathrine had admired General Rochester, Edward, who was about 22 years older than her. She thought he was brave, beautiful on the inside and out, he too was a God-fearing man. The King's son wasn't a favorite of his own father's, but his cousin Kathrine was. Kathrine was respectfully allowed to choose her own marriage and was a polite woman of the court. She hardly asked for much and never expected the highest accessories from princes or dukes.

"I choose General Rochester, because he has served with my loving and faithful brothers in the American Revolution to defend our country and my Uncle George. I have honored and adored Our Lord, Jesus Christ, and have prayed for the best suitor in my Lord's hands. I have admired you and I've been watching every time he returns, and I await his favor." She said, over the court. "Mr. Rochester may not be a Prince or a Duke, and he may not have everything, but he is alone and has wearily traveled without a love life, with no legacy or family of his own, and he may want to start up the marriage market soon enough. My dear and glorious General Rochester, I hope you choose a God-fearing woman such as I for a wife!" said Kathrine, boldly, with a strong speech and purely heart. "If Mr. Rochester doesn't appear to want my hand in marriage, I understand, there are more men in the world of Brittany. Not one of those blasted liars like the King's son, whom I do not rejoice in wrongdoing. I will never be betrothed over my will, against my love of God and the love from my heart to that pesky and trouble making fool, Prince Thomas Milton! That is my conclusion, thank you for your time. And good evening."

"She must be MAD!" shouted James, upset. "She's a 'pins-and-needles' kind of woman, in her words or speech she is. But ah. Kathrine, she's a little dainty and beautiful, THAT old man doesn't deserve such beauty or her pressing, delicious tasting lips. When I can taste FEAR, I know it when I feel it. Yet the woman has great FAITH I may never feel her lips in pain or distress in such a maiden."

"Oh, shut it, James," said Daniel, defending his sister. "You are a cruel man and you have terrible tastes and no respect for my sister. My sister, and only sister, shall not be disrespected or disposed of from the court. Either in your hands or against her own free will. Woman here may not have such speech with her own free will, but she speaks the truth. The truth is what we need around here." Tom and Daniel start arguing and debating either intact or against Kathrine's claims. King Thomas loved his daughter and betrothed her to a trusted and beloved man. Mr. Rochester admired Princess Kathrine. It so happened that the couple had been meeting each other in secret or had been distantly in love by writing letters to keep a constant conversation. The conversation of marriage on the contrary was stead fast in their relationship. People assumed Mr. Rochester was at least Middle Aged or 40 years old, since Kathrine turned 18, Mr. Rochester turns out to be 22 years older than she, about 37 years of age. Many women in those days married men older than their age and even in their middle ages, but Kathrine felt that their relationship was a perfect match. Kathrine's father brought his only daughter to Mr. Rochester, the King decided to leave his sons and wife, Sarah, and their youngest daughter Thomas never knew about, into another war, and left the family in different families in the Hanover house. Mr. Rochester took his fiancé to his mansion in Thornfield. "My dear, Kathrine, from those wearily wars and your father went to finish the last one, that blasted fool Thomas can't get to you now!" said Edward Rochester, placing his coat and hers on the racks. "So, shall we relax for the night and talk about setting up the future wedding plans?" Kathrine smiled and straightened out the ruffles in her pink dress, saying, "Why yes, Edward, darling," said Kathrine, sweetly. "Thank the Lord, God, for our blest hearts that someday soon we are to be one within Him."

CHAPTER ONE

A Song for Mr. Rochester

Kathrine Heiress, the Mrs. Rochester-to-be, was singing in the living room where Mr. Rochester sat comfortably in his sofa by the hearth and listened to the sweet voice of his gentle turtledove. "Edward, darling?" replied Kathrine.

"Yes, my turtledove. Your voice is ever so delightful, my heart rejoices and wants to dance," he replied, getting ready to light his cigar. "Do sing some more, but not if your voice is too tired." "Would you accept me even if I didn't want to be Queen? Nor a Princess, not to take disrespect of my normal duties. But I just feel that a simple life in the greenwood and the meadows suits me better. Away from war and from the worries if someday you ought to come back." She replied. "After we are wed, I just want to remain Mrs. Rochester, but as a Duchess after my mother. The mother of our children, O bless our hearts, and I would recommend by saying…I would not recommend you smoke on like that. Not to offend you, or anything, but I do not like to taste my love's lips when we kiss, when I taste the terrible smoking substance on your mouth. If you could, for me, do me a favor and never smoke again in public or at home when I'm around you." Mr. Rochester was about to light his cigar and paused for a moment. "I may have enjoyed smoking a cigar, but if it pleases you and not to harm you, I shall end my hobby of smoking." He replied, respectfully. "And at least the night is young, my darling, why don't you sing once more."

"What shall I sing, my love?" asked Kathrine, coming from behind his sofa. She caressed his jester of his back and started to willingly rub his shoulders.

"Oh, no, my sweet. I couldn't have you do that," he replied, comfortably. "No, no, my sweet."

"No, I insist. I don't mind really, and you look as if you could use a good rub." She replied, laughing. "Men go off to war and fight hard, protect so much, that they may have bled through. Good thing you survived and returned to me in one piece." He smiled and stopped her dainty hands from rubbing his shoulders. He insisted that she'd better sit peacefully onto his lap.

"Do you remember that one song you sang. When I was visiting over Christmas from a separate visiting from Russia? What was that called—" he replied.

"Once upon a December?" she replied, as she nestled into his lap. She snuggled into his lap, and she relaxed. She was very small for his lap, a perfect fit, and she didn't nearly weigh as much. "Aye, my turtledove, that's the one." He replied, rubbing her cheeks. "Do sing it again, please." Kathrine smiled and she relaxed again, but alas she wanted to get up. "I'll sing it better if I ballet danced it for you, after all it tis a waltzing song." She replied. "Either you watch me or join along. Your choice, I respect if your tired. I'll sing right along ahead, you just relax."

Once Upon a December

By Deana Carter

Kathrine:

Dancing bears
Painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Kathrine:

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

Kathrine:

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Once upon a December

Kathrine:

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

Kathrine:

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim an as ember
Things my heart used to know
Things it yearns to remember

Kathrine:

And a song
Someone sings
Once upon a December

(end song)

She would often imagine herself dancing the waltz herself. She used to imagine waltzing with General Rochester when he came home to London. He always had time with his friends, but he had all the time in the world with his most favored one, Princess Kathrine Heiress. She blinked out of the imagination and looked over to her fiancé, he was gently sleeping like a baby. Maybe some woman couldn't see it the way she saw it, but she naturally accepted it anyway. "Oh, oh. My darling, Edward," she whispered, softly to herself. She covered a warm blanket over him to keep him warm and headed up for bed. "Good night, my darling, and God bless our hearts." That evening, until in the morning at daybreak, Mr. Rochester wanted to look his best, even for his fiancé. He rushed upstairs and started to freshen up. Kathrine took a relaxing bath and purified herself with the maids help. "You are very kind, your Highness," said Maid Millie, respectfully. "A kind and sweet hearted woman who treats her servants with friendship and kindness, shall henceforth get glad tidings and kindness in return." Kathrine was warmed by her words, and she dried herself off with her towel. She dressed in her beautiful white laced dress, placed her hair in a bun, and placed her bonnet on her head as if she were going outside.

CHAPTER TWO

Do dreams really come True?

Kathrine Heiress went downstairs and into the dining room to meet Mr. Rochester, and he was ready to receive breakfast with his fiancé. "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" said Mr. Rochester, amused, as he pulled out a chair for her. "My starling, my angel, come and dine with me at the table. A breakfast feast, we share and bless the Lord for our abundant meal. Of which we are about to receive. From thy bounty, through Christ our Lord, Amen." Kathrine and Rochester signed the "sign of the cross" and started to serve themselves. Yes, I can agree with you, reader, that it would be more romantic if Kathrine had shared her meal with her future husband, and he too in return. Smiling and laughing, as well as quietly enjoying the meal together. "So, are you ready to go." He replied.

"Go where specifically?" she asked, in reply.

"To supply you with a wardrobe of dresses, my love," he replied, delightfully. "And in addition to your wedding dress, we have almost everything already prepared. We shall be wed in 3 days."

"Three days? Will that be enough to prepare?" she replied, surprised.

"Ah, yes, my beautiful little angel," he said, sweetly. "Now, we haven't a moment to lose, come along now, sweetie! Don't dottle!" Kathrine sheepishly smiled, and cautiously stepped out the door. "Three days?" she thought, boarding into the carriage. "I thought we would be getting married in about a week. We haven't seen each other for about three years, yet he wants to get married right away. I suppose this may speed up our anxiety and our summer honeymoon, I guess." Kathrine sat across from Mr. Rochester, mumbling to herself, quietly. "What's in that little head of yours, my sweet?" he asked, as she came off daydreaming.

"Oh? Um. Do you remember those evenings when you snuck off with me? Away from the crowds or that blasted fool, James Milton?" she replied. "After singing 'Once Upon a December' last night, I just couldn't stop daydreaming about how romantic we were."

"Aye, I used to remember. Or what about the time we went hunting in the woods with your brothers and I caught you secretly raising a fox kit the other day?" replied Mr. Rochester. "I wouldn't have allowed you to keep her, but you seemed too pitiful for the lost pup, after we hunted the little guys parents. But they had to be hunted, they steal the chickens from the villagers, and they steal our eggs, frightening the animals and alerting our dogs."

"Aye, I remember. But that was not at all what I was thinking about." Said Kathrine, disturbed. "Let's try…do you remember when we laid on the meadow beds and kissed in the sun? As playful and as romantic as it could be…I felt so close to your heart as you were so close to mine." Mr. Rochester smiled, but he didn't seem to reflect another romantic scene. I suppose his memory doesn't seem to react to the same romantic events. Every time she tried to get excited about a romantic scene, he'd replace it with a 'hunting' or a 'warlike' event. Was this really the same romantic Mr. Rochester she used to know? Does his heart not truly touch her memories as his touch hers? What could this mean? This troubled Kathrine, she started to worry about her betrothal. "Edward?" she said, trembling to say one last time. "Be honest with me, do you remember at all of our summer and evening memories we've shared?"

"Why, of course, I do." He replied, smiling, as he rubbed her hands. "Well, this is our stop." Kathrine was troubled, but even as she tried to keep her thoughts to herself, she wondered if he really cared. After the wars, the fighting and the anguish. The ball parties and the holidays, as well as the family sporting events, does he not remember the same ones she does? "What do you mean you 'used' to remember?" asked Kathrine, worriedly. "You mean to tell me you don't remember them?" Mr. Rochester was confused, "What? No. I remember everything!" he replied, taking her hand as she came out. "But let's not talk about it now, that'll wait until later!" "Oh, really?" she asked, doubtfully. "Okay, what about the time you gave me…From the Russian ballet, what did you get me from the play? On your visit from Russia?" he replied, "A pair of soft, pink ballet slippers and a pink dress to go with it." taking her hand. "The summertime when I went to France, I brought you back a rose." She looked at him. "Oh, okay." She replied, smiling. "But, why do I get the feeling every time I remember a focus on our favorite or my favorite romantic memory. You always mention your war hero days and the disturbing hunting games?" Mr. Rochester stopped his bride-to-be, softly and sadly he sighed, "Kathrine, I love you and all, but we really must focus on the few days we have left for the wedding. Truth is, I just want to finish our busy things and not daydream our old memories. I want to take our time we have now and reflect on those memories later." He replied, looking bashfully. "Please don't assume I don't remember. Oh, darling, I do. But I'm so focused on our list of things we need to do, and then when we are married, this summer I shall have all the time in the world to talk about our memories and make new ones. Even take you to Russia and France for your first time." Kathrine sighed with relief, "I'm so sorry, I assumed you have forgotten. Being in the war for so long made me think you have forgotten our best parts of life." She replied, starting to cry, she felt guilty. "But, forgive me, I didn't mean to worry you." He shook his head and rubbed her hands. "Do not fret, my darling. All if forgiven." He replied, kindly. "Rest assure, when this is over, we'll have all the time in the world to be together. At least until Heaven calls us home."

Kathrine went with Mr. Rochester, happily and came over her worries. Holding her love's hand, and feeling very secured, they finished the last-minute shopping together. After the shopping day, Mr. Rochester and Kathrine made it home and organized their apparel. "Thank you for not worrying me and telling me the truth." She replied, hugging him. "It may seem tiring and complicated, but we have waited for each other for three to four years for you to return and get prepared for our wedding. God bless you, Edward Rochester. You are an honest man, do doubt and you try everything you can to make me safe, happy, and well." He smiled and she enjoyed dinner with her fiancé. Before going to bed, Kathrine came to the piano. "Would you sing another song for me, my sweet?" he asked, again. "But not if your voice is too tired." Kathrine smiled, "My voice was refreshed from a flask of wine and a spot of tea, refreshed by both drinks so that I may sing to you." She replied. "Shall I sit upon you lap again, or sit on the window seat, as the moonlight bathes me in God's grace?" she waited for his reply. "Whichever makes sense to you, dear," he replied. "However, you feel, is alright with me."

How Does a Moment Last Forever

An inspired song by Beauty and the Beast remake

By: Celine Dion

Kathrine:

How does a moment last forever?
How can a story never die?
It is love we must hold onto
Never easy, but we try
Sometimes our happiness is captured
Somehow, our time and place stand still
Love lives on inside our hearts and always will

Minutes turn to hours, days to years then gone

But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on.

Kathrine:

Maybe some moments weren't so perfect
Maybe some memories not so sweet
But we have to know some bad times
Or are lives are incomplete
Then when the shadows overtake us
Just when we feel all hope is gone
We'll hear our song and know once more
Our love lives on.

Kathrine:

How does a moment last forever?
How does our happiness endure?
Through the darkest of our troubles
Love is beauty, love is pure
Love pays no mind to desolation
It flows like a river through the soul
Protects, perceives, and perseveres
And makes us whole.

Kathrine:

Minutes turn to hours, days to years then gone
But when all else has been forgotten
Still our song lives on
How does a moment last forever
When our song lives on.

(end song)

Again, Kathrine finished her song and looked over at her fiancé fast asleep. She wondered peacefully if he had either, listened to the full song and then went to sleep. Or listened to her singing, which caused her melodious voice to drift him off the sleep. Many people thought of Mr. Rochester as a 'set aside' a childish play and grow up to be a man. However, he still remembered those memories and dreamed of them, but he was very straight forward on the wedding because he secretly knew Thomas was plotting to kill Daniel and to crash his wedding. If he didn't marry Kathrine by the third day, it would be devastating to lose his precious love. He spent hours planning his ceremony, the honeymoon they would spend peacefully, and eventually he would come back to support England. All his time had spent a lot of dreaming aside.

CHAPTER THREE

Hail, Duchess Kathrine Rochester

About the last two days of setting up the wedding, as happy and nervous as she could be. Princess Kathrine Heiress was dressed in her wedding gown and her veil was in place. In the Cathedral, of St. Mary's church in London, came in King George and King Thomas. Kathrine was walking down the aisle with her father and she smiled as she centered to the Altar near Fr. Michael and her husband-to-be. "We are together in Marriage!" began the priest. "We have come to celebrate the royal wedding of the two love birds, General Rochester and Princess Kathrine Heiress. Do you, Mr. Rochester, take this lady to be your wife? To have and to hold, for rich or for poor, for sickness and in health. Until death to thus part?"

"I do." Replied Rochester, holding her hands.

"And do you, Princess Kathrine," he replied. "Take this charming, beautiful man to be your husband? To have and to hold, for rich or for poor. For sickness and in health, until death to thus part?"

"I do." She replied, and she was starting to shed her tears. "I am happy wherever you are, Edward. My family is your family. My people are your people, and my God is your God." The priest closed his eyes and said, cheerfully. "Oh, Princess, that was the most beautiful vow, that I have ever heard a woman, make to her husband in my life." He replied, dreamy. "You may kiss the bride, and off with you then!" The people cheered as Rochester kissed Princess Kathrine. "Welcome, welcome, Duchess Kathrine and Duke Edward Rochester of Thornfield!" cheered the people. "Hurrah! Hurrah! Hail Duke and Duchess Rochester! Long may they live!"

"STOP!" shouted a voice.

"Too late!" said Mr. Rochester, hugging Kathrine close. "Don't worry my love, he can't take you away from me. God won't let that happen I promise!" Duke Rochester, as he swept up his newly wedded wife into his arms. "Let us be on our way, I won't let James take you away from me!" Duke Rochester carried her into the carriage, and she laughed, and he jumped into the carriage along with her. The cabby man drove the carriage to the train station. "Ere you go, yer Highness!" said the cabby man, as they and their luggage were dropped off. "Hurry before the blundering brat decides to crash your honeymoon too! Be safe and God bless ye." Duke Rochester waved goodbye and went on his way with his wife, Duchess Kathrine. "Gah! That traitor!" shouted James, with 10 of his soldiers. "How dare they! I'll find him! I'll get that Princess if it's the last thing I do!"

"That's what they all say," said the cabby man. "But they never do, do they?"

"Pipe it down, cabby man," said the prince. "Am trying to think!"

"Well, I certainly wouldn't want you for a King," he replied, on his way. "You're too much trouble, a big, fat liar, and an un-God-fearing man, are ye. Nobody likes you!"

"Be quiet, you fool!" said the Prince. "Or I'll have your head!"

"Aye, but you can't have me head, sunny!" he replied.

"And why not?" replied James, stormy.

"Because, I'm an Angel. Behave lad, or you'll get yourself in trouble." He replied, leaving. "Goodbye. And the Lord God will curse yer life with a mouth like yours. Behave."

"I will find you, Kathrine!" he shouted. "I WILL have thee, whether you love me or not!"

Kathrine and Rochester were in each other's arms, resting on their way to Paris for the Summer. "I love you, Edward, darling," she whispered, cuddling in his arms. "I hope we never get separated. I want to have a family with you!"

"As so have I," he replied, kissing her little hands, constantly. "My affections for you are unanimous. And I love you all over the place. As soon as we get to Paris, we'll have the time of our lives! James won't be able to get us where we're going!" Duchess Kathrine and Duke Rochester made it to Paris, France, and entered a luxurious Inn for their restful slumber. Dressed in her attire evening gown, Kathrine and Rochester enjoyed passionately gripping on and kissing one another. Humming and hungrily sharing one's affection as they have too longed waiting for. "I have waited this for too long. Did you really think I would stop loving you since the wedding plans? WHY NO!" he said, hungrily, yet gently feasting on her skin. Kathrine laughed, and leaned back her neck, in his arms. "I would treat you better than that blasted fool! James Milton, I say 'God forgive him, for he may not know what he is doing'. But alas, if he sins and sins again, then I say, 'JAMES MILTON, OFF WITH HIS HEAD!' And then, my love, we shall live happily ever after!" Kathrine laughed and agreed, for she had now remembered the dreamy, gentle and charming man she once loved, and now forever and ever, Amen!

"No, no, no." laughed Kathrine, leading him off her.

"Oh yes, my beautiful Angel!"" he replied. "Come 'ere, YOU!" he chased her around the room, and he pulled onto her arm, starting to kiss it. "Oh, let me go! Let me go!" she squealed, excitedly. "Oh Edward, let me breathe for a moment, at least." There was a sudden pause, between them. "Soon…you'd be begging me…not to." He crooned, passionately. "My beautiful turtledove. Stay with me, stay in my arms." She sighed and leaned heavily in his arms, "Okay, okay, whew. Edward, darling, I've had enough!" she replied, letting go from his arms. She sat upon the bed and quietly breathed at last. "I'm serious, I believe you, you are still the most charming, beautiful, romantic, war hero from our memories. Calm down, self-control remember." Duke Rochester decided to respect his wife's request, and they laid on the bed together. "I have a dream." said Kathrine, laying over top Rochester.

"Penny for your thoughts, my little queen?" he replied, swooning into her gaze.

"Well, I don't know if your ready for this, yet." She replied, teasing him. "Another time, yes."

"No, no, no. Don't be keeping any secrets from me, now," he replied, pressing his fingers against her lips. "I can still taste the warm, delicious kiss of your lips." Kathrine turned her head away and his fingers down, "Nay, Edward, no more tonight." She replied. "I was just going to say—"

"Yes, my darling, anything you want!" he replied. "I know you don't ask for much, but please!"

"Well…alright, if you think you are 'man enough' to hear it." She replied.

"Man enough? You don't think Duke Rochester is 'man enough', eh?" he teased her. "I'll show you, I'm 'man enough' for anything…even YOU!"

"WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!" she giggled, as he tried to place his hands on her hips. "Whoa!"

Now, I didn't tell you but for some time now, Mr. Rochester has been home and since the planning and betrothal, Kathrine had some news for her newly wedded husband.

"Edward, I have prayed to God for your arrival since the war was finished. Whether you were victorious or not, I still love you." She replied. "I'm as faithful and loyal to you as you are to me. And in turn I want to not just to congratulate you from our on-going wedding—"

"Yes, my love…" he replied, about to engage her lips.

"EDWARD LUKE ROCHESTER! Are you listening to me?" she replied. "This is most serious! And it means a lot to me now that James is on the wild goose chase for me, and for you, that he'll be after us three!"

"Three?" he replied, astonished. "Three who?"

"Our baby…" she replied. "I can explain…you see…"

"OH, MY DARLING!" he replied, joyously. "THAT'S WONDERFUL!"

"Really? You're not mad?" she replied. "Careful not to jump, I'm very delicate, you see."

"No, why would I be mad?" he replied. "Should there be a reason for I to be mad? My wife and I are going to have our first child. How could I be mad about that?"

CHAPTER FOUR

Baby Rochester-to-be

Princess Kathrine, before she became Mrs. Duchess Rochester. After two years of war and seeking favor, General Rochester stayed home for a year and for the first months of Autumn, Winter and Spring, Kathrine and Rochester almost never left each other since. Kathrine became pregnant with Rochester on October 19th, 1788 and felt lightly ill about two weeks before the wedding. The doctor checked the small fever and told her it wasn't much to worry about. But she must be betrothed to whomever the father is going to be, James never said he wanted children, nor did he say he ever truly loved God or Kathrine. She was 9 months pregnant in June, which was now, and this is how she explained it. (Narrative above) They didn't know when she'd be having the baby, but they would keep a sharp eye out for James and the future heir to Thornfield. I'm sure Duke Rochester would have wanted a son, but they were praying for a girl. Rochester had so many ideas, and he wanted to buy Baby Rochester little bows, dresses, and blankets. Bonnets, hats, a little baby's coat and mittens. "Darling, how do we know if the child is a boy or a girl?" she laughed, as they went out shopping. "We don't even know when the exact date is." Rochester smiles and kisses her, delightfully. "I have a feeling, Kathrine. I have a feeling God will be giving us a little girl." He replied. "And if not, I'll still love our son! But I know it's a girl!"

"What about the names, Edward," she replied. "The baby has to have a name!" He smiled, "What about Edmund Daniel for the boy's name? And for our little girl, Adele Kathleen?" She laughed, "Well, I love the name 'Adele', but I also love 'Celine', too."

Duke Rochester and Duchess Kathrine spent their first week shopping and going to Parisian ballet plays. He wanted to take her to Russia, but they never seemed to get very far. With the child on the way, she felt very heavy and very homesick. Laying on the bed, as if she was about to deliver, the French-English speaking doctor, Doctor Monsieur Jean, delivered the newborn child. "It's a girl!" shouted the doctor, as the baby was crying. "Monsieur Rochester and Madame Kathrine have a beautiful daughter!" Kathrine got her pick as well as Rochester chose to name her together. "Adele Celine Rochester, she is." Declared Rochester, rocking the child. "We'll be home soon, my sweet girls. Home to Thornfield!"

When Rochester and Katherine returned with Princess Adele Celine, into Thornfield Hall they came and there was the Nanny, Maid Millie, excited to be caring for the little girl. 2-month-old, Adele Rochester was blonde, fair, and chubby. She had such the most precious smile and the chubbiest cheeks that any baby could have. And Duke Rochester was a very happy and proud father, helping Kathrine raise Princess Adele. Adele Rochester grew to be a very beautiful toddler of 4 years old, and after she had been raised with her younger brother, Edmund Daniel, who was 3, Daniel died, and James took his armies and over throwed England. He vowed to find and re-marry Kathrine, no matter what family she had already. Rochester had ridden to Thornfield and warned the family. Rochester, Adele, Edmund, and Kathrine rode to the train station. Mary Ingram tried to stop her cousin from going too far, she said she would marry him if he'd stop this madness. He refused, and they rode out to capture Duchess Kathrine. Millie rode with Edmund and Rochester rode with Adele. "I must stall them!" said Kathrine, crying, "Take the children with Millie, and go! It's me he wants!"

"No, no. Kathrine," I cannot let you do that!" said Duke Rochester. "The children and I need you! Thornfield needs you!"

"I understand, May the Lord bless you and keep you safe," she cried. "Perhaps someday the Lord shall deliver us, but I cannot let my evil, sickening cousin take over our lives here at Thornfield. Let me go, instead of you. There's not much time, now go!" Rochester in tears kissed his wife one last time, in a terrifying incident, and carried the children away with Maid Millie. "I promise I'll help you raise the children if Duchess Kathrine comes back." She said, crying, and hugging Edmund. "Shall we go, sir?" Rochester prayed to God, and Maid Millie made the sign of the cross. The two of them rode away with the children, they were crying for their mummy. James came with an outrage of horses, and Kathrine ran to the front of Thornfield. "Ah. Now there's a beautiful princess right out of my doorsteps." He mocked her, in vain. "I swear to God, that you'll be my wife! And it shall be so, whatever condition you're in, and I don't care if you're already married! How dare you marry someone else without my permission!"

"This is not your decision to make, foul words, cousin!" she replied, furiously. "There's no one here but me! Take me and leave Thornfield alone!" He laughed and smirked into a hideous smile, he carried his beautiful cousin over his shoulder and carried her away. He expected her to cry or whimper, but alas like the Lord Jesus didn't budge towards his funeral background, neither did she, even though she didn't want to do this, she relied on God to deliver them. She was carried to the castle and shoved into the throne seat. "UGH!" she cried, shouting, in pain. "YOU MONSTER! THE DEVIL IS IN YOU!" James smiled and held her jaw firm with his fingers, "You WILL be my wife, my Queen, make no mistake about that!" he shouted, freakishly laughing. "I'm the King of this Kingdom, and you shall be my sweet REVENGE!" Kathrine who was trained by Mr. Rochester from her lessons of jousting, decided to challenge him. "AURGH!" she shouted, holding her sword. " I challenge you, O Brat, son of King George the III, to a duel. Never underestimate the power of love and the power of God before Man! I will avenge my people, for they have no love or faith in you!"

"YOU? Challenge me?" he laughed, as his hair was unruly. "Pfft. You're just going to get yourself killed over nothing! Sure, if it pleases you, my sweet!"

The two of them hard jousted, and Kathrine was winning by far. In this last-minute epic battle, the people prayed for Kathrine's winning battle.

"If I win, you all be come my slaves and you'll become my prisoner forever. My queen, and my trinket, and your God shall die!" he replied. "But if you win, which will never happen, I release you from all burden and pain. And you all can be free and live happily ever after, you can do whatever you want with me! If I win, I get to do whatever I want with you!"

By the power of God and vested in his grace, Kathrine prepared her final drawl.

"Any last words, Cousin?" she said. "This is your funeral after all!"

"No man shall ever defeat me!" he shouted, as she dodged.

"Well, lucky for you…" she said, piercing his heart. "I AM NO MAN!"

With the final straw, the evil prince James dies and the devil leaves his soul. James turns to ash and dirt lies upon the dead grass. "It is done!" she replied, tiredly. "I cannot leave this throne, not even to Thornfield, until I have found a trusted heir to the throne of my Uncle. Then I promise I shall return to my sorrowful husband and lonely children. I hope God and Maid Millie keeps them well. Until I can return." James sister, Princess Elizabeth and her husband, Fredrick VI were next for the throne and respected Duchess Kathrine Heiress, who is now known today as Miss Jane Heir, the Great British heroine of James' epic defeat. Will Duchess Jane Milton ever return to Thornfield and rest assure her safe return? We'll see.

CHAPTER FIVE

Duke Rochester finds NEWS about Kathrine Rochester's Resistance

For about three years without Duchess Kathrine, Rochester mourns in Thornfield for the loss of his wife. "Papa will Mumma ever come back?" said sweet Adele, trying to calm her papa. Rochester opens his arms to 7-year-old Adele, the beautiful red-haired French-British duchess of Thornfield. "I don't know, little Angel," he cried, kissing her soft head. "She risked her own life for us, I will not lose you nor will I lose Jesus Christ. You and Edmund are all I have left from her, and Old Maid Millie. Stay together and perhaps someday your mummy shall return." Adele and Edmund came in and cuddled their father until their bedtime. "Cam 'on, then," said Old Maid Millie, who was like a grandma to them. "Cam 'on, sweeties. Leave your father to his rest. You can see him tomorrow." The children obeyed and went to sleep. Duke Rochester didn't know that his wife was alive, but until she returned, he needed a young governess who would be suitable, treat them with kindness and teach them until he found her. Rochester sent out an advertisement, saying he needed a governess for his own children, he was willing to pay a good amount and support her with one of his household chambers for her to use. When Mary Ingram received the note, she gave it to Duchess Kathrine. "I was about to return to my husband, but I suppose I must give them some time to settle down." She replied. "I shall return as the governess, to give him some time to relax and see if he may be ready to accept me again. I know you'd recommend me not to come unexpected as someone else. I believe after the death of James and the coronation of my dear cousin, Princess Elizabeth, I need some time to refocus on things. Anyway, you must return to Rochester and maybe even keep him company until I can return. But you may tell him of my existence, just not my private state of living." Mary respected her cousin and went on her way with a letter of resistance and James' overthrow, 3 years before.

"Incredible! My wife, Duchess Kathrine, killed James and saved the people. Now that Elizabeth are in rule, where doth my beautiful duchess now?" he replied, amazed. "Where is she now?"

"I'm not sure exactly, Edward," she fibbed. "She sent me to tell you, and she's somewhat on her way. That you must be prepared for the unexpected to be expected!"

"Oh, good Lord, bring my wife safely home to me," begged Rochester, on his knees. "There I shall care and never let her go again. I shall protect her from the dangerous wars and the frightening thunderstorms. Kissing her sweet skin, hands, and I shall embrace to my singing Angel. Lord have mercy!"

"She doesn't sing very often, Edward," said Mary, sadly. "But she does stand her ground."

"I assume she's an officer or a Captain of the Royal army?" asked He.

"Nay, Edward, she is a respectable hero to the people and the crown." She replied. "They call her princess, but she isn't known as Duchess Kathrine anymore."

"What? Not Kathrine?" he replied. "Mary, who is she?"

Old Millie came into the room. "I hope I'm not disturbing anyone?" she replied. "But the governess has arrived, Duke Rochester. Her name is Jane Heir."

"Thank you, Miss Millie." replied Rochester. "You may go now. Let her in, I'll see it as soon as I can. I'm sorry Mary, I'm sure we'll have this conversation later. Do stay, if she sent you, maybe you could stay until she arrives." But Mary already knew she arrived, and it was hard for Mary to keep a secret, even if she killed everyone's nightmare. "Hullo, are you Duke Rochester of Thornfield in need of a governess or an intelligent young woman to raise your children?" asked a familiar voice, but very light. "My name is Jane Heir, I come from a wealthy family, and have been sent across the countryside to care and support little children. Especially in conditions where a loved one has passed or left to protect someone for the circumstance to defend family members they love. I am a favorite of the crown, and I have come to help those in need." The young woman looked very familiar, she was 23 years old and had the creamiest skin color. She had brown eyes, brown hair, and wore a black dress. "Aye, I am Duke Rochester. I have two children. Very obedient and adorable, they haven't spoken much since their mother died." said he, Duke Rochester, politely. "Although…you look rather familiar? Like my wife, Kathrine."

"Many people have mistaken me for someone else that they have recognized, Aye, yes, there are many women, as young as I, who look alike me." She replied. "So, I accept good payment, I do enjoy the happiness of others, and I love children. Others say they love children, of which they lie. But trust me I am not one of those ladies. Where shall I be staying?" Old Millie showed her where she ought to be staying. "Where was her last position?" asked Rochester to Mary. Mary replies, "For Madeline's fatherless children. However, Madeline married another of Daniel's younger brothers to keep up the family. Madeline also loved Matthew, under Daniel. Matthew is a kind and a sweet father, that's when she left to come here."

"So that's how she's a favorite of the crown, I assumed Fredrick had a favorite for some reason. You must be very fond of her, Mary?" he replied. "Do keep an eye on her. Nothing bad or suspicious about her, but she reminds me of someone I once had love for, 3 years ago. I still love her and hope for her return." Mary nodded and shivered a little down her spine, she didn't want to keep a lie from her beloved cousin's sad husband, but she difficultly respected her answer. Once Jane became a little attached to the household, she began to teach the children. Rochester prayed to God everyday for his wife's return and prayed for why she was hiding for so long. For about three long weeks, into the new Spring, Jane grew very fond of the children. That evening, Rochester had to find out where exactly where his wife was, Mary was very disturbed and told Kathrine she had waited out on him long enough. Rochester waited for an answer from Madeline and she said that they didn't have a governess, unless the governess was her sister-in-law. "My sister-in-law, Kathrine Heiress Rochester defeated the British terrorist, James Milton, and then she waited three years for an heir to rule instead of her. She finally found Princess Elizabeth, James' sister to rule England, who was a favorite." Explained Madeline Heiress. "My children hath loved their Aunt since Daniel's death and I married Matthew. She ensured our health and our lively status, our well being and happiness. Kathrine was returning to Thornfield accepting the letter of advertisement for being the governess for Duke Rochester's children. Perhaps she may not have wanted to be known because of James' allies. She hid her identity and went in hiding; she may even secretly be living in your household. Mary may know, but don't accuse anyone until you know for sure. Eventually, someone will show clues and lead you to Kathrine's whereabouts. Sorry no one warned you sooner, Kathrine was overwhelmed with James' defeat and she didn't want to disturb anyone's peace.

Your Faithful Sister-in-law, Madeline Ingram Heiress."

Rochester found out about Jane, and he decided to test her. He sent out for a gypsy to take fortunes and maybe even to get a response from the governess. Rochester fell in love with Jane because she talked, sang, and looked exactly like Kathrine. He decided he was going to woo Kathrine back again. Jane would be invited to the evening party and a get-together to feel company surrounded by loved ones. Jane and Rochester were going on a walk around the courtyard, "Miss Heir, how do you spell your last name?" asked Duke Rochester, picking a flower from the bush. "Is it Eyre like the book, 'Jane Eyre' or spelled like 'The Royal Heir'?" Jane replied, "As in the royal 'Heir' H-E-I-R. Why?" asked Jane.

"As in Heiress?" he replied, rubbing her cheek. "Kathrine Heiress, perhaps?"

"Many assume I look like Duchess Heiress, but you must be mistaken." She said, trembling. "My Mistress Madeline said that Kathrine hid herself not to break the news from her husband, and not to avoid James' soldiers, but to hide her new Heir."

"Oh? What new heir?" he asked, curiously. "Is there something I should know?"

CHAPTER SIX

The Surprising Truth be Told

"Duchess Kathrine went to Thornfield Hall and hid herself as one of the servants. She lives among the people to be close to you. She doesn't mean to hide from you, she's afraid to make herself known because she's expecting. If the men found out about her pregnancy, they would have had their revenge on her for killing their evil, selfish master. I found out Elizabeth hanged them all, and now if she were to be told that the fear is gone. If she were told, then she'd show herself or you would woo her back to the family." Rochester was in tears, "Would you tell her for me, Jane. It would mean a lot to me if you did." He replied, begging her. "I've lived in agony for three years, but I can't hold it any longer. My children NEED their mother, and I WANT my wife! I won't scare her, and I'll make sure she's safe. I promise."

"The new heir is…a son." She replied. "I'll have a good talk with her, I assure you, she'll return. I'll even try to talk some sense into her!"

"Be gentle with her, she's a Duchess after all," he replied. "She's going to be having a little baby boy."

"Of course, she's a stubborn little thing! But she is dainty and sweet." She replied. "Good day, Duke Rochester, I should prepare for the party."

"Take your time, Jane." He replied. "Please do not leave until she returns."

Jane nods and smiles, her tears begin to silently fall as she walks inside the mansion. Rochester rejoices to God and starts to prepare for his plans. When the party began, the gypsy arrived and started telling fortunes in her private room. When it was Jane's turn, Rochester disguised himself as her assistant, Jaspar Lune. Jane didn't know it was Duke Rochester under the mask.

"Now, Miss Heir, I see…you had a hard past. You had favor for the General Rochester and wrote often to him from the wars. You married him when he returned and was mocked by your evil cousin, murderous James Milton. You chose to marry the wise man instead of the rotten, young foolish man. And you had two children with him, of whom you left to defeat your nightmare. You coronated Queen Elizabeth and became a governess of Madeline Heiress' fatherless children until Matthew, your older brother carried on the family. And now you hide from your own family, your children, your cousin, Mary, and your husband…why?" said Nimsa the Gypsy. "Why do you hide from your husband?"

"You tell me, you're the gypsy!" she cried, sorrowfully.

"He's constantly searching for you and its hurting him." She replied. "You better show yourself, before your baby boy is born. He could be able to help you. The enemy has been hanged."

"All, but Anthony Thomas. He's everywhere." She cried. "I'm afraid he will chase me off, scare and kill me. Wants my children and husband dead. What can I do?"

"Tell him the truth, do something that may help him remember." Said the Gypsy. "'Once upon a December'. Don't you remember? He loves your voice and your song."

"I hear you, Nimsa," she cries. "I'll wait until he is alone. Bye."

"Bye, Kathrine," she replied. "Take care and do remember. 'Once upon a December'."

Later, when all was quiet. Jane wanted to put the children to sleep. "Mary, Millie, do take the children up for bed. I'd like to have a word with Jane Heir." Said Duke Rochester, eagerly, but calmly. "Come here, Jane. It's okay, no one is here except you and I." Jane gulped quietly, and she came down the stairs and closed the door. She arrived in a glamorous living room, and there was a chandler over the grand, white piano. A harpsichord to be exact. "Come, stand here." Invited Duke Rochester, calmly, who sat at the piano. "We are alone now…"

"Duke Rochester, I believe spending a lot of time with the governess would be taking advantage of your wife." said Jane, shuddering. "I will put the children to bed."

"Nonsense, you WILL stay here with me." He replied, starting to play the piano. "Now, suppose I will ask for your company, to singing her favorite song, 'Once upon a December' I believe? I remember Russia and France I once visited and brought her many gifts. She was a faithful friend and my sweet, little turtledove. And she risked her life for me, and now she is somewhere here in my house and you shall share my song and tell me where she is. She is in trouble, and I plan to find out where she is. Anthony or not, we are alone in the room. Let's begin."

Jane began to hum the intro, and her body started to sway. She tried to force herself not to, but she allowed herself to sing just like Kathrine Rochester from that evening back three years ago.

Once Upon a December

By Deana Carter

Kathrine(Jane):

Dancing bears
Painted wings
Things I almost remember
And a song someone sings
Once upon a December

Kathrine(Jane):

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

Kathrine(Jane):

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Once upon a December

Kathrine(Jane):

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses prance through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

Kathrine(Jane):

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim an as ember
Things my heart used to know
Things it yearns to remember

Kathrine(Jane):

And a song
Someone sings
Once upon a December

(end song)

After that song, Jane was weeping on the window seat, bathing her skin in the moonlight. "I remember that evening before our wedding. I sat on the window seat and you asked me to sing that song from the Russian Ballet. 'Once Upon a December' and with happiness I did." She cried, cuddling to herself for warmth. "I understand if you do not forgive me. I am just a silly, young, and childish wife of yours. Anthony is dead. However, I have had very strange dreams that he will haunt me and send his devils to kill our newborn son. I am home, I miss home."

Duke Rochester comes up to Kathrine and carries her in his arms. "My love, my turtledove is home. No worries, Kathrine, you and the children shall be safe. God brought back my little miracle! My Glorious, Heroic, little Angel!" She cried sadly and happily at the same time, kissing him as he kissed her with their hearts' content of their quiet reunion. Kathrine was warm that night and Rochester put his wife to bed, he slipped off her shoes and placed her into his nice, big, warm bed and covered her up. "Old Millie! Old Millie!" called Rochester, from the bedroom. "Fetch me the doctor, My Kathrine has come home, and she is about to deliver our son!"

"Your son?" she replied, astonished. "My word, my beloved Mistress is home!"

"Go fetch the doctor, we can celebrate later!" he shouted. "The children will be happy to have their mother back and their new baby brother."

"Aye, but the children have been told by the governess, she is there mother." said Mary Ingram, coming into the room with warm water and some rags. "Here's to start her off."

Dr. Fred Matthews came to the household and helped Rochester deliver the child. Kathrine pushed and screamed, and she tugged onto the bed. Then she bore her infant, and they named him Daniel Edward the II. Daniel was dark haired with brown eyes and rugged reddish-white skin. Usually that was the case for all newborn babies, his cry was very pitiful. "Daniel Edward the II. Our little boy has been born and his mother is safely home." Replied the Doctor. "I shall send news that your family is restored and back in order. There are no bad guys, and you are in God's blest hands. Be safe and don't let her get out of her room until after two months. She can rest, eat, and read in bed. Let her recover from all that has been lost and now what has been found. Good morning, and Good day!" Duke Rochester spent his long hours caring and treating Kathrine. Reassuring her that everything would be fine. Duchess Kathrine Rochester grew to recover and was well again. After Adele turned 8 and Edmund was 7, Baby Danny turned a year old. He often loved to walk around short distances from his siblings and to his parents. Look at books and try new things. But best of all, Christmas was a wonderful holiday of the year around the Family Reunion of that "Once upon a December" celebration. The End.
