Chapter 1: A new kind of king
"Excellent job everybody, we have conquered new land thanks to all of you!" A large lion spoke from the edge of a cliff. "Get some rest, we go on the hunt tomorrow!"
There was some chatter in the crowd of lions below as they began to spread out to find a good place to sleep. The lion on the hill heard some rustling behind him and turned to fight. But it was a false alarm.
Two cubs emerged pushing each other around when they stopped in front of the large one. One of them had dark gold fur with brown hair, blue eyes, and some scars across his mouth, eyes, and shoulder. The other was a lighter gold with a red mane, a cut over one of his right eye causing it to lose its color, the other one green, and a chunk taken out of his ear.
"Halak, Halvar, what do you want?" The adult spoke as they approached. They two looked at each other and eventually Halvar spoke. "We wanted to know why you didn't have us do anything today." He spoke with caution.
The lion took a moment to remember and responded. "I have other plans for you for our next attack." Halak seemed confused, then asked "Why? I thought we were staying here for a few moons?"
"Oh Halak, I said that for all the messenger birds to spread the wrong information." Halvar smiled and jokingly called his brother stupid.
"SILENCE!" The adult lion roared. The two gave a stiff stare and didn't move. Halak gave a soft "Apologies father I~" he was cut off by the lion slapping him across the face. "Do NOT call me father!"
Halak wiped the dribble of blood from his check and said "Yes King Ivan…" Ivan replied back "I would cut your other eye. You're lucky I still need you." Halak said nothing.
Ivan spoke as if the past few moments never happened "Both of you report back here at sunrise tomorrow. I'll give you the plan." Halvar and Halak bowed and said "Yes your majesty." Then they left.
Halfway down the cliff the brothers struck up a conversation. "What do you think he'll have us do?" Halvar asked "I don't know, maybe scout our next victims." Halak responded.
Halvar was more of the soldier type and was always anxious for a fight. His brother on the other hand, he would fight, but it wasn't his most favorite thing.
Blood continued to drip from Halak's face as he went to a watering hole to clean up. "He really got you hard with that one huh?" Halvar said. "Yeah, I just wish it wasn't so close to my mouth. All I taste is blood."
"Come on, lets get some sleep." Halvar said anxiously. Halak looked up.
"What's your rush? He asked. "I want to know what we'll do tomorrow! That's my rush!"
Halak just rolled his eyes and said "You fight too much." Halvar nudged his brother and they fell asleep shortly thereafter next to a bush.
