A real father would never try to harm his family.

My mother said that to me, once.

Before she died at the hands of my father.

Or so I thought.

I used to believe that my father was putting on a facade of love.

But...

Recent events have been... shocking, to say the least.

My entire world view of my parents has been turned upside down. And that's for the better.

Everything I knew about their last moments with young me, were proven to be incorrect.

...

Until recently, I assumed that my father killed my mother.

Of course, me being the idiot that I am, believed everything I saw with my eyes.

But what I did see, wasn't the entire picture.

"A real father would never try to harm his family."

I should've taken those words more literally.

My father was a real one.

So, the one who harmed my family...

Couldn't have been my father.

I just wished that I had realized that sooner.

Broken Past, Mended Future

Humphrey POV

"Wake up, sleepy head!" *knock on head*

"Ow! What was that for?" I asked, opening my eyes to reveal an excited Kate grinning at me.

"Today's the day! Come on, Humphrey. You promised!" Kate half-whined, half-yelled.

"What day?" I asked her, not pretending to know.

"Maybe a second knock on your head will help you remember." *knock on head*

"Ow! Okay, okay, sorry Kate!" My mouth formed into a smile.

Jeez, Kate was super-excited to go on this trip.

Yup. We were going on a trip. I know I make fun of Kate for being overly excited, but I couldn't lie; I was happy as well. Okay, a lot more than happy.

"Have you packed the berries?"

"Yes!"

"The sticks?"

"Yes!"

"The kitchen sink?"

"Yes- wait, what? We don't have human stuff, Humphrey! HAHAHAHA!" Kate burst into laughter after hearing my third rate joke. I never found out why she found even my worst jokes hilarious. I'm sure there's some mysterious reason behind it.

"HAHAHAHAHA!" I caught her overly contagious and cheery laughter. I love her to death.

"So, Humphrey, when will we start?"

"Right now." I sprung out of the cave and started sprinting to Winston's den.

"Oh, you're on."

Kate took some time, but caught up to me in a few minutes. I obviously wasn't faster than her, but I was the fastest omega, and she had a lot of work to do.

"Hey, where are you going, you moron? The exit is that way!" Kate said, pointing to where we needed to head.

"Would you rather prefer that we go without informing anyone and then piss off the whole pack because they sent a search party after us?" I replied to her remark.

Kate blushed, ever so slightly. Of course, I was going to exploit this. "Oh, right, I'm a total idiot." She then proceeded to slap her forehead while running, which I didn't even know was possible, but I suppose being an alpha has its perks.

"Aww, Kate, you look cute when you blush." Exploit exploited.

Meanwhile, we had slowed down our pace to a light jog. We were approaching Winston's den, where we would probably find Lilly and Garth.

She blushed even harder, and then awarded me a kiss on the cheek. I smiled warmly at her.

We went up the small incline on which the leader's den was located. Oh, sorry, I mean Winston's den. I forgot that he was my father-in-law for a second there.

We were greeted by four wolves discussing something.

"Hey, guys!" I called out. "Hi!" Kate called out as well.

"Hi, Humphrey!" "Hello there, son!" "Hello, son!" "Hey, Humphrey!" Lilly, Winston, Eve and Garth called out at the same time.

"Leaving so soon?" Winston asked.

"Yup, dad! Kate was over-enthusiastic."

Kate jokingly pushed me. "Hey, you were the one who wanted to get out early!" She said with a 'hey-don't-blame-me' look.

"Well, we don't wanna slow you guys down, so goodbye!" Winston bade us farewell.

"Bye guys!" Both of us said at the same time.

The rest of the group said their goodbyes, and both of us were on our way to Glacier.

Time skip: 2 hours

"Here we are."

"The end of Banff." We were on one side of a river that we wolves used as a border marking. Cline river or something, I think.

"Care to cross first, Katie?" I wanted her to have the privilege to cross first. Why? She was my wife, and I wanted to be nice to her. Why? I love her. Why? She's amazing. Why? Well.. (More random questions in Humphrey's head.)

"Oh, what a gentleman!" She her head away, while still keeping her eyes fixed on me. Her mouth let out a small giggle, covered by her paw.

I took her paw and kissed it.

She crossed the river using a small log bridge. I followed her closely.

We got off the log, having successfully crossed the river.

We ventured further into the wilderness, looking for train tracks. Guess who decided to appear at that very moment?

"Hey, wolves!" Marcel shouted.

"Marcel? Paddy? What are you guys doing here?" Kate asked the two birds, who were probably flying off to some golf competition.

"Well, we're going to Montana. It's vacation time!"

"And also pick up girls time!" Marcel added.

"Marcel, you're older than that tree over there! I highly doubt your lady luck. Anyway, we're going to Montana. Where are you two lovers going?" Paddy asked us.

I looked at Kate. She looked at me as well. These guys were going to Montana?

"What a coincidence! We're going to Montana as well!" Kate exclaimed.

"I swear, whenever we think about trains, you guys appear!" I shouted out.

Everyone started laughing at my joke, except for Paddy and I. Are my jokes really that funny?

Eventually, the laughter caught up with me and Paddy. We laughed our fur off (or, feathers) for a few seconds.

"So, guys, care to tag along with us? We need to find the train tracks." I said.

"Sure, it will be very much more fun if we go with you wolves." Marcel agreed to my idea.

"Alright then, let's go. You guys gonna come down here or keep flying?" I noticed that they were still up in the air.

"Oh, right, sorry, Mr. Fast!" Marcel apologized in a joking manner and descended down to the level of us plebeians.

"Alright, then, let's go. Wait, haven't I already said that line?" Luckily they didn't decide to go into a laughing fit this time.

We proceeded to go on an epic adventure, scaling incredible mountains, and then skiing down them, slaying multiple large dragons who were terrorizing innocent wolf-people, and of course, eating sandwiches. Just kidding. But not about the sandwich part, though. Maybe I should consider a career in writing. But the chances of me doing that are as slim as the chances of some other me in some parallel universe getting sucked into the past and then having to risk his life to close some space-time rip with the help of the creator of the universe and of course, alternate universe Kate. Then, meeting another version of me from yet another alternate universe that contains another version of me and a differently colored clone of Kate, with the Kate clone being ripped from the life experiences of some author, but happened to coincide with the name of another writer's fictional character, which leads to the first writer facing negative criticism from his real life friends for ripping off someone else's work, when in reality, the Kate clone was only slightly inspired by the second author and not completely ripped off by the first.

Okay, maybe I should actually consider a career in writing, because I just probably pulled a bestselling human book randomly off of my brain's imaginary bookshelf. But, then again, if I thought up the entire plot in a few seconds, the story is probably bad.

Okay, now back to reality!

We found the train tracks pretty soon, with the help of Marcel and Paddy. We sat there and waited for the train.

"So, when's this train arriving, Paddy?"

"Well, Humphrey, according to my estimations, it should be audible in 5.. 4.. 3.. 2.. 1.." Right on cue, we heard the faint chugging of a train. You could always rely on Paddy to give you accurate calculations.

Once the train reached us, we jumped aboard the train and started our exciting vacation adventure. If only I had known where this journey was going to take me.
