These people are in the Danger Zone! Welcome to Watchmojo and today we are talking the top 10 guest stars that have appeared in the FXX spy comedy series, Archer. Before we begin, we publish new content everyday so be sure to subscribe to our channel and ring the bell to get notified about our latest video. For this list we are looking at the people who have agreed to appear in this series whether it be an ally for the characters of ISIS or an enemy. These characters can range from being one-shots to recurring characters. With all that out of the way, let's get on with our list.
#10: "Flula Borg as Gunter Ziegler"-German actor Flula Borg has had his fair share of animated characters; he was the voice of an animated horse in the Blue Sky film Ferdinand, Alfons in Disney's Tangled: The Series, and Mega Fat CEO Baby in the Netflix Dreamworks series The Boss Baby: Back in Business. Here in Archer though, he plays an arrogant pilot rival in the secondary comatose arc season, Archer: Danger Island. Flula manages to capture the German arrogance of Ziegler as he did in previous roles. What makes Ziegler kind of cathartic is the plane fight he has with Archer and Pam near the episode's end. Although the character himself only exists in Archer's subconscious, he is still technically a man voiced by a guest star.
#9: "Jack McBrayer as Randy Gilette"-Jack McBrayer is often known for playing lovable hick-like characters, whether it be a drifting alien with a magical hat or a videogame character with a magical hammer. For Archer however, he plays a corrupt hick, Ray's younger brother Randy. There seems to be a trend of how the main characters in Archer have issues with their family members; like Pam's sister Edie, Cheryl's brother Cecil, Lana's parents Lemuel and Claudette, and most prominately, Archer's mother Malory. What makes Randy no different? Well, he's a drug dealer, or farmer as he puts it, lies to his brother to get protection from the Sheriff, and he was even willing to have sex with Ray's alleged wife, who was Cheryl. Ray even said he was homophobic at one point. Talk about family drama. It's a shame that McBrayer played a corrupt hick instead of a good one like he usually does.
#8: "Timothy Olyphant as Lucas Troy"-This actor has had a few starring roles like the murderous Mickey Altieri in Scream 2 and James Stacy in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and he haa a few voices under his belt like the myterious Spirit of the West in the Nickelodeon movie Rango and the crazed Willard Stenk in the Laika film Missing Link. In the series, he plays a former agent of ISIS who was bascally Archer's best and only friend before defecting to ODIN. Lucas soon fakes his death and hid out in Vermont where he decided to open a lodge and wanted Archer to run it with him. However, after he drew Archer out, he confessed that he stole some uranium and murdered his comrades, and that's not even the worst thing he did, he raped Archer when he was unconscious as he had a thing for Archer. Archer really should pick his friends more carefully.
#7: "J.K. Simmons and Keegan-Michael Key as Detective Harris and Detective Diedrich"-Who would've thought this duo would be so great together? J.K. Simmons is known for roles like J. Jonah. Jameson in the Spider-Man franchsie while Keegan-Michael Key often did works with his friend Jordan Peele. They also did various voice works like in Gravity Falls and Toy Story 4. Throughout the seventh season of Archer, they play a duo of rather inept detectives who, despite their best efforts, prove to be of little assistance in stopping crimes in Los Angeles, with an incident involving a clown gang and ruling actress Vernonica Deane out as a suspect in murderbeing prime examples. Despite this, they manage to capture the humor that both Simmons and Key are known for. These two guys are a prime example of how an unlikely duo can make a huge imapct.
#6: "Fred Armisen as Gustavo Calderon"-Comedian actor Fred Armisen has had a lot of contributions to the animation industry, with roles like KVN in Final Space, Elliot Burch in Netflix's Big Mouth, and even appeared in the Aqua Teen feature film as Time Lincoln. His role in Archer is a rather unique one, as he plays a somewhat mentally unhinged ruler of the Central American country, San Marcos. Appearing in 3 of the 4 remaining epsodes of the fifth season, Calderon is shown to be a huge fan of Cherlene, the country music persona of Cheryl, wastes his resources, that he extorted from his country, to buy every record album copy of her song 'Outlaw Country', has little if any love to give to his wife as he uses his auhtority to anul their marriage and when Cyril overthrows him, his attempts to run soon has him get eaten by a tiger. To hear Armisen give a sub-par yet efficient Spanish-accent to the character is also what makes him stand out from Armisen's other roles.
#5: "David Cross as Noah"-David Cross is well-known for playing rather comically nerdy characters, with his most famous one being Dr. Tobias Fünke in the sitcom Arrested Development. He also did some voices like Master Crane from Kung Fu Panda, Minion from Megamind, and even guest-starred in Rick and Morty. The character he plays in the three-part season three premiere of Archer, Noah, maintains the comedic nerd trope as he is an anthropologist who can understand he foreign priates's language and baically becomes a replacement for Cyril as he is constantly browbeaten and mistreated by not just Archer, but other characters. He also made a reappearence in Archer: Danger Island, but it was basically the same role as before. With his nerdy banter, Cross manages to make Noah both funny and sympathetic at the same time.
#4: "Rachel Harris as Rona Thorne"-Rachael Harris is one of those actresses that's just all-over-the-place, appearing in shows like Star Trek: Voyager, Desperate Housewives, and Friends as well as movies like Diary of a Wimpy Kid and The Hangover. When she appeared in Archer, she was playing an actress best known for drama roles named Rona Thorne. She comes to ISIS to practice spy-work in order to prepare for an upcoming spy movie. While at first seeming like an easy-going woman, things take a rather dark turn near the ending where it was revealed that she came from a family of sleeper agents and was acrivated to murder a Soviet film director and take his place as a reward from her handlers. A normal actress like Harris manages to make Thorne both comdeic and terrifying given that she isn't all that well-known.
#3: "Ron Perlman as Ramon Limon"-Ron Perlman has starred in a whole bunch of media from both movies and TV, which consists of the titular Hellboy, and Clay Marrow in the sho Sons of Anarchy. He also had some voice roles like Slade in Teen Titans, Xibalba in The Book of Life, and The Lich in Adventure Time. Here in Archerm he plays a homosexual latino man named Ramon who has made two appearences in the show thus far. He befriends Archer after the latter tries to get a disk back from him at the behest of his mother and in the second appearence, helps Archer, Pam, and Lana try to sell some cocaine, only to prove himself as a fair-weather friend when he screwed the trio out of the cocaine and money. That being said, at least Ron Perlman's charming portrayal as well as his Spanish accent really makes the guy stand out.
#2: "Cristian Slater as Slater"-Actor Christian Slater is most known for his down-to-earth tone in voice and has starred in movies such as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Interview with a Vampire, and Broken Arrow, just to name a few and he has also dabbled in voice-work in movies and television shows like Ferngully: The Last rainforest and The Lion Guard. When he comes into Archer, he basically plays an animated version of himself as a CIA agent who's given his surname and tries to give assignments to the inept agents of ISIS. Even when ISIS gets disbanded, it doesn't stop him fro mcoming back in season 7. He manages to capture the charm and humor of the real Slater.
Before we get to our number one guest star, let's take a look at a few honorable mentions.
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
"Gary Cole as Agent Hawley" "Bryan Cranston as Tony Drake" "Eugene Mirman as Cecil Tunt" "Matt Berry as Mr. Deadly"
"Maggie Wheeler as Trinette McGoon"
#1: "Burt Reynolds as Himself"-For anyone who has watched Archer, you might know that he is a die-hard Burt Reynolds fan, with films like 'Smokey and the Bandit', 'Deliverance', and 'White Lightening' as his favorites, Archer is no stranger to Burt Reynold's works. The biggest surpise he faced however is meeting Reynolds himself in the season 3 episode 'The Man from Jupiter' and is shocked to discover that he is dating Malory. At first, Archer does not approve, but after he and Burt try to outrun a cuban hit-squad he soon comes to accept his mother and his childhood icon being together, which lasts for only a few episodes. Burt Reynolds may be dead, but we'll bet he's honored to be on the list.
