Two or more kits laid in the clan nursery, one was nuzzled up to his mother alongside his sister Cloudkit. A smaller tom laid in an empty nest without his mother, this kit was Skykit. Skykit had been born into an only litter, his mother had ditched him at birth, the little tom had also been deathly sick the first moon of his life. However his life was not in the star, he had made a full recovery and was living his life out as a normal kit.

At least, he lived life out as normally as he could, he was treated like an apprentice by his mother.; As a kit he had already been put on Elders duties, however, the little kit didn't mind. Glowpool one of the elders was extremely kind, she was young to be an elder, but because of her tethered back legs, she retired early. She tended to need constant help and they wouldn't hear her cry's if her legs gave out again.

Skykit thought of Glowpool as a mother, she was always there for him after his lack of a mother's nightly scolding, The little white tom would ask Glowpool for advice on hunting and of more personal problems. Eventually, Skykit stopped bringing his "true" mother prey. Glowpool deserved the prey he caught more. Skykit debated witch den he should be sleeping in, The elders or the nursery or maybe even the apprentice's den? For some reason, the kit still slept in the nursery, Even if it was just an empty nest that awaited him, it still felt right.

Skykit was already a pro at hunting, he had always done it to relieve stress and other negative emotions he needed to brush off. Skykit was clueless about attacks and how to defend himself, but that was what the apprenticeship would be for. Skykit would sneak out of the nursery at night and hunt, he'd bring back all sorts of things. He had once even brought back a little bird what a cat would even call beautiful. This little bird had been the first that Skykit had ever seen, at least one that wasn't a crow.

Skykit had been born mid-leaf-bare, so he never saw any other birds.

This bird, however, seemed special to Skykit, it had taken his mouse before he killed it so it had to be special. What kind of bird eat prey? The little white kit knew that scavengers eat prey on occasion but this one didn't look like a scavenger. The bird had A flattened face and wide eyes, the talons were sharp and fine.

Those are really sharp talons! I don't even know if this bird is safe to eat, I might just leave it. But I never should waste food, maybe mother will like it. She might like me more because of it. Yeah, I'll do that She'll love it, even if she doesn't at least the kits in the nursery will enjoy the feathers.

The little tom was lost in his thoughts. He finally shook himself from his fantasies and raced back for camp. The tom had collected a large haul threw the night, the owl, two bats, half a mouse, a squirrel and a small rabbit. Skykit rush toward camp, the sun had risen and the camp was starting to awake. Soon Skykit reached the nursery, the tom had left the prey on the pile, but he kept the owl. Skykit was in the nursery and he hadn't realized how small it was now, it seemed so much bigger the night before. The tom shook himself out as if he just woke up, the tom then walked out, the owl's wing clenched in his jaw, he dragged the owl's body behind him.

"Hey, mom!" Skykit mewed excitedly, Thrashstep raised an eyebrow at her kit.

"I caught you this last night, I don't know what it is or if it's edible, but I wanted you to have it and share with who you like." Skykit continued, Thrashstep jaw dropped an eyes widened.

"Who are you? I never had kits, they all died." Thrashstep asked coolness iced her harsh tone.

"It's me, your kit," Skykit explained as he looked at his lunatic mother. She was deputy, but Skykit never understood why Fallstar would choose such a heartless being.

"Well now, who's this?" Fallstar asks coming up form behind Thrashstep, Fallstar had a lightness to his natural tone of voice.

"My, er kit… Skypaw" Thrashstep studdered.

"I don't remember apprenticing a Skypaw…" Fallstar trailed off.

"That's because I'm Skykit, anyway I just wanted to drop off my catch" Skykit explained.

"You must be an apprentice though, surly. You so big, and you have such a sturdy frame, even your muscles are well exercised" Fallstar mewed, Skykit flourished under the praise.

Skykit knew he was mostly for his age but he didn't know it was so noticeable, He hadn't even known he was that big. He had always been super small, everyone always called him a runt and other names, like mouse and rat and scrap and little one and kit, and so one. He had so many names, but now he was standing in front of Riverclan's leader being praised for his size and extra muscles. This was his leader, the cat everyone was trusting of...

"I'm afraid I'm not an apprentice yet, ask again in three moons" Skykit smiled.

"Th-the-Three moons? That means your Three m-m-mo-moons." Fallstar studdered.

"Yep" Skykit chirped, he popped the 'p'.

The Fallstar popped, he completely exploded onto Thrashstep about the importance of kits and how Skykit should really not be hunting or, let alone be fighting owls. Skykit watched Thrashstep just roll her eyes wich angered Fallstar even more. The two yelled back and forth for what seemed like ages, half the words Skykit didn't know what meant bu some he knew what some meant since Glowpool would slip a word here and there. The words were an insult and that was clear just by tone. Skykit was growing restless on waiting for the argument to stop, but it didn't. Skykit couldn't help but wonder what the worst insult was.

It didn't matter, what Skykit knew for sure was that his mother was Dumber than a box of rocks, and that was final, no way anyone or thing could change his mind.

Skykit snuck away, he ran out of camp and down to the windclan border. He was confused as to why, but it just felt right.
