Ok so seriously, I haven't written in so long and I didn't realize how rusty I was. This isn't the greatest, but I've had it in my head for a while and I've really wanted to try an Upstead fic. So, enjoy.
:This is literally the dumbest documentary I have ever seen," Hailey says throwing her head back on the back of the couch. She bumps Jay's arm that was resting behind her.
"Ow," He groans pulling his arm away from her. "Jesus Hails you got a bony head." This earns an eyeroll from her. "Come on, you know you can sleep tonight now that you know how saltwater taffy is made."
"Why do I bother staying with you," She mutters, reaching up and grabbing her ringing cell phone. This time Jay rolls his eyes at her as she answers the call "Hey Kim, what's up. Whoa, calm down. What's going on?"
Jay glances to Hailey, eyebrow rose as he waits to find out what's going on.
"Kim, you need to breathe. You have worked hard on today; it's going to be fine. If the florist's truck breaking down is the only thing going wrong today, then it's a good day. You said it yourself, they'll be there within the hour. I know it's not what you were going for, but it's going to work out and it's going to be perfect."
Ten minutes later Hailey had managed to calm Kim down from her panic attack. Only if she promised to come early and help make sure that everything looked okay. Reluctantly, Hailey untangles herself from her boyfriend and stands up.
Got a call from a friend, said "you should come over
All your friends are already over"
Took you twenty minutes just to find a dress
You like the dress, you say yes
Green, red, yellow, blue, yeah, they're all just right on you
Don't worry, you look beautiful
Hair up, hair down, another twenty minutes to get out the house
"Come on lazy bones," She says heading for the stairs.
Jay reaches out to grab her arm, but she's already gone. He groans, falling back against the couch cushions. "Come on Hails, we have plenty of time!"
"That's not true, we have to be there in TWO hours and neither of us are the slightest bit ready." She yells back, running up the stairs.
Reluctantly Jay stands up, making sure to pick up his and Hailey's mess from lounging around that morning. He makes his way into the kitchen to clean up the few dishes he had dirtied up making pancakes, Hailey's favorite, that morning. After washing the pan, their plates and coffee cups, he heads back into the living room. He straightens it up, folding the blanket they had cuddled under and putting it back into the hallway closet. He picks up the remote and turns off the stupid documentary he had forced her to watch before glancing at the clock.
By the time Jay makes his way upstairs to their bedroom, Hailey is out of the shower and standing in the doorway of their closet wrapped in a towel. She was running a brush through her wet blonde locks as she stared into the closet debating on what she should wear.
Jay walks over to her, placing his hands on her bare shoulders. He leans down, nuzzling into her neck. "Hmm, you're practically naked right now." Hailey laughs, while his hand snakes around her frame, toying with her towel.
"I don't think so babe," She reaches up and halts his movements, earning yet another groan from him. "We've got places to
"Five minutes," He counters, and for a minute Hailey feels herself giving in. Her restraint is barely nonexistent as his hand rubs up and down her side, his mouth attacking her ear. It's only when she feels him loosen the knot on her towel, that she snaps back to reality.
"Jay, we can't." She wiggles her way out of his embrace, earning a dirty look from her boyfriend. She makes her way into the closet, smirking back at him. "Get in the shower, you stink." Jay rolls his eyes and heads for their ensuit bathroom. He rolls his eyes once more when he hears Hailey holler out. "And you probably should make it a cold one."
Jay gets in the shower, letting the hot water run down him. He closes his eyes and leans his head back, trying his best to will away the images of his very hot and beautiful girlfriend when he hears her tiny feet pad into the bathroom.
He opens his eyes just in time to see her pull back the shower curtain, a mischievous look on her face. "Hails what are you –"
"Five minutes." She mutters, closing the shower curtain behind her and crashing her lips to his.
Twenty minutes later both Jay and Hailey emerge from the bathroom both wrapped in towels. Hailey once again running a brush through her freshly wet locks. Jay heads toward the closet to pick out his outfit when Hailey stops him.
"I already laid it out for you." She says motioning where his suit was lying on the bed. He walks over, seeing she had picked out his black slacks and jacket along with a light blue button up to wear under. Before he can say anything, she speaks up. "Yeah I know you don't like when I do that, but you'd be lost if I didn't dress you." Jay chuckles in response as she walks up and wraps an arm around his neck. "Besides, the blue shirt makes your eyes pop."
Jay just smiles down at her, wrapping an arm around her waist. He pulls her into him. "You're right, I would be lost without you." He places a soft kiss on her lips before pulling back and swatting her ass slightly. "Now, go get dressed so we can go. You're going to make us late."
"Oh, I'm going to make us late," Hailey laughs as she heads back to their closet. "That's hilarious." She hears Jay chuckle along before slipping her towel off and slipping her robe on. She then grabs two dresses, holding them both up as she debates which to wear.
The dark blue dress was fitted along the top but flows out toward the bottom. With its deep plunging neckline, it leaves very little to the imagination. It's hung in her closet for years, only having been worn a few times. The first time she wore it for Jay, he nearly had a heart attack right then and there.
Her next option is a deep red dress. The dress is also fitted and hugs her curves in all the right places. It falls right at knee level but is also strapless in a classy way. It was one of her favorites.
Not able to make up her mind, she walks out of the closet and into their bedroom. She finds Jay in their bathroom. He was already dressed, sans his jacket, styling his hair. Something that often takes him forever, even though he insists Hailey takes longer to get ready.
"Which one?" She asks holding them both up for him to see. He glances toward her, his smile growing.
"You know the blue one is my favorite,"
Hailey smirks. "I wonder why," She hangs the dress up on the back of the door before joining him at the sink. She watches as Jay continues to gel his hair into place as she reaches for her makeup bag on the counter.
"Cause my girl is a smoke show," This causes her to laugh once more. He really did always keep her laughing.
"You're an idiot." She says shaking her head as he gives one final satisfied look in the mirror at his reflection before turning to her.
"Your idiot." He says leaning down and kissing her lips softly. They pull away, both smiling sweetly.
"Oh, if only everyone could hear how cheesy you're being right now Halstead."
Jay just rolls his eyes at her, before standing up straight and heading toward the bedroom to finish getting dressed. He slips on his black dress shoes, groaning as he does so. They were uncomfortable and he always feels like a clown when wearing them. He would rather be in his boots, but he knows Hailey would kill him. She is one of the two ladies in his life that could get him dressed up.
Twenty minutes later, after getting fully dressed, making the bed and checking his messages on his phone, Jay returns to the bathroom to check on Hailey. Her makeup was done, but she was still fixing her hair. "Good lord Hails, are you still not ready?"
Hailey rolls her eyes as she wraps another strand of hair around her curling iron. "Well I'm sorry Jay but looking this good take time." This earns a chuckle from Jay. "Besides, I straightened my hair only to think it would look better curly. I'll be done in ten. Keep your pants on." Jay opens his mouth to speak, only to be met by Hailey holding her hand up to stop him. "Don't."
Letting out a full-on laugh, Jay turns and heads back downstairs to make sure they had their gift ready to go. True to her word, Hailey comes downstairs ten minutes later, her hair curled perfectly, and in her dress. Jay can't stop himself as he makes his way over to her and wraps an arm around her waist. He pulls her to him, leaning down to plant a kiss on her lips. "You look beautiful," He mutters it against her lips.
She pulls back, her smile growing as she looks up and locks eyes with her boyfriend. "Mm, you don't look so bad yourself," She says, reaching up and adjusting his tie. He never could get it just right on his own.
"Come on, we're going to be late." He says dropping his arm from around her and grabbing her hand. She grabs their gift, while he reaches for the truck keys.
"Yeah, we don't want to keep our girl waiting." She agrees.
Finally walk in
I'm already thinking 'bout leavin'
Gotta get you back in my shirt
Get you out that dress
Get you out them shoes that you like so much
Everybody at the party is checking your body
I don't even mind it 'cause you're coming with me, girl
And I know it's only seven thirty-two but looking at you
I'm already ready to go
"There you guys are!" A very frantic Kim Burgess exclaims pushing her way through a crowd of people to where Hailey and Jay just walked in the church. Adam quickly follows along behind her, carrying their two-month-old daughter, Dani. "You two are literally the most important people how did you manage to almost miss it?"
"We have thirty minutes Kim, we're fine." Jay immediately regrets saying that as Kim shoots him a dagger.
"Damn Upton!" Adam says taking in her appearance.
Kim rolls her eyes. "Adam, we're in a church!" She exclaims, slapping his shoulder. Hailey laughs as Adam shrugs.
"Eyes on your own date Ruzek." Jay says, slipping his arm protectively around Hailey and pulls her into him.
"He's not lying though," Atwater says walking up to the group, Vanessa in tow.
She nods in agreement. "They're right Hails, you look hot."
"Ok enough about me," Hailey exclaims feeling her face turn red. She turns to the little girl in Adam's arms who had now woken up. "Let me see my god baby." She reaches over and takes her out of his arms. "Hi baby girl! I missed you so much!"
Dani's little face lights up as she looks up at her aunt Hailey smiling and cooing down at her. The whole unit watches on with smiles on their faces. None of theirs bigger than Jay's, however.
Jay couldn't tear his eyes from his girlfriend, holding his goddaughter. The way both Hailey and Dani's faces lit up when they saw each other. Hailey was so good with her, and honestly it had surprised the hell out of him the first time he saw her with her, but now he loved to watch them. He most definitely couldn't wait until he and Hailey have one of their own one day.
Dani starts to fuss a little, and before Kim or Adam could reach for her, Hailey hoists her up on her shoulder. She begins to rock back and forth to calm her. "Oh wait, who's that Dani?" Hailey asks the baby girl, as her tiny eyes lock on to the man standing next to her. Hailey's smile grows as she watches Dani stare intently at Jay.
Jay's smile grows as he reaches over and takes Dani from Hailey. "Hey there munchkin," He brings her to his chest, and she instantly calms down. Instead she smiles and reaches up running her hand along his scruff. "That's right. You love Uncle Jay most don't you?"
This earns a laugh from the group and an eyeroll from Hailey.
"Alright guys, we need to get started." Kim says breaking up the little moment. She had been relaxed for a little too long and her anxiety was starting to rile back up.
"Darlin," Adam says wrapping his arm around her, and walking her back to the front of the church. Jay and Hailey follow along behind them with Dani in tow. The rest of the unit moves to take their seats. "You need to breathe. We're here. You did it."
"I can't help it Adam," She says relaxing back into his arms. When Kim had went to Adam and told him she was pregnant, she did not know what to expect. The two hadn't exactly been a couple for a while before hand, but they always managed to find their way back to one another. Over the course of her pregnancy, the two had fallen back in love with one another. They became a couple again, their family finally feeling complete when their little Dani had entered the world. "I just want our little girl's baptism to be perfect."
"And it is," He says squeezing her arm as he leads her up to the front of the church. "You did amazing, I promise." He leans in, planting a quick kiss to her forehead. "Now, let's enjoy this okay?"
"You're right, let's enjoy this." She smiles up at him.
Wall-to-wall
Way too many people
The noise, the crowd
I don't even see 'em
'Cause I'm talking to you, you're talking to me
I ain't tryin' to be antisocial
Everybody's probably wondering why we're standing in the corner all alone
Girl, you're so beautiful, yeah
You look good in the lights, but I wanna see you in the dark
An hour later the baptism is over, Jay and Hailey were officially named Dani's godparents, and now everyone was at Mollie's for a reception to celebrate the little girl.
Dani was sleeping peacefully in her father's arms as she sat off to the side, while her mother stood next to them running her hand through the little girl's head of dark hair.
Atwater, Vanessa, Severide, Maggie, and Natalie sat around the table with them talking. Stella and Herrmann were standing behind the bar, working to keep everyone in cocktails. Mouch and Platt sat along the bar with Boden and Voight.
The rest of the district, firehouse 51 and Chicago Med staff were scattered around the bar, as they were all Dani's extended family. Everyone in that bar would do anything for that little girl.
Jay and Hailey sat two tables down from the little family, with Will. Jay waits until his brother goes back to the bar before turning to Hailey. He eyes her as she watches Adam and Kim with Dani. Her smile never falters.
Jay leans in, his mouth inches from Hailey's ear, but that is far from what sends a shiver down her spine. "Let's have a baby,"
Hailey's eyes widen as she turns to look at her boyfriend. "Have you lost your mind Jay Halstead?"
Jay chuckles, shaking his head. "I'm serious. I love you Hails, more than I've ever loved anyone, and I hope you love me –"
"You know I do," She says as she moves her hand to his thigh, squeezing it slightly.
"Ok then. We're great together, we love each other. Almost half as much as we love that kid over there" He says nodding to where Dani was asleep a few tables down. This causes Hailey to laugh. "Can you imagine how much we would love our own?"
"Our baby would be perfect," Hailey says her smile growing. Her gaze was locked on Dani as she imagined a baby of her own, with her blonde hair and Jay's blue eyes. She would be lying if she said she hadn't thought about it before now.
"Ok so, what do you say?" Jay asks, eyeing her closely.
Hailey turns to him, looking up at him lovingly. "Jay, I love you so much. I've never felt this way about anyone, so I know what we have is special."
"But" He says clearing his throat. He had pushed her too far.
"But," She says moving so that they're eye to eye. "We still have a lot to talk about before we have a baby. That doesn't mean I don't want to. Just, let's talk about it thoroughly ok?"
Jay smiles slightly, his heart flipping in his chest at the thought that of he and Hailey having a baby at some point in their future. "Deal."
Hailey raises an eyebrow up at him, standing up so that she was standing between his legs. She inches closer to him until her lips are grazing his ear. "That doesn't mean we can't practice right now"
"Oh thank God," Jay mutters standing up and reaching for his wallet. He chucks enough cash to cover his and Hailey's drinks and then some on the table before grabbing Hailey's hand. "I've been dying to get that dress off you all day."
Hailey just smirks as she allows him to pull her out of the bar, and to his truck a block down.
Two tables down Kim looks to Adam, who was laughing at their friends. "Where do you think they're going in such a hurry?"
Adam glances from Kim, down to the little girl in his arms. He leans down planting a kiss on her sweet forehead before looking back to his fiancé. "Well Darlin, I think our precious girl here is just so sweet that everyone wants one."
Kim's smile grows as she reaches over and brushes the hair out of her daughter's face. "I can see why. She is pretty damn cute."
I can't wait anymore
Yeah, I know we just walked in
I'm already thinking 'bout leavin'

Get you out them shoes you like so much
