Next Friday, mosque assembles. Sheikh Kahn leads the service.
He stands in the vale of an amphitheater. Around him, zealots lie on woven mats, with their shoes off. They raise their arms, sing, and compliment their Allah. As usual, it's a lovely service...
High above, Li sits in a horseshoe arch...in her lingerie. Soon, her love will get what's coming to him...
It's time for their fifth prayer. Sheikh Kahn asks them to close their eyes, and lie down, towards Mecca. They do; all their eyes are closed, including the Sheikh's. Only the Sheikh, that they can tell, stands between them and Mecca...
Li looks at the clock, and smiles. It's the bear's cue...
Through a back arch, he lumbers in. He descends into the pit, with the Sheikh, and stands behind him, on his back legs...
Only the naughty Muslim children see the bear. They gawk in amusement, as they do not yet have the discipline required to shout an alarm...
Onward, the prayer continues. Still, the bear stands in place, batting his own paws. Heads below his own, the Sheikh still prays. He sure can't seem to say a short prayer...
At long last, he says the Pashto/Dari equivalent of "amen." All around, everyone else does too.
And, they open their eyes. They see the bear. The Sheikh doesn't. They all sit, petrified...
The Sheikh makes some final announcements. They're all monotonous...which causes him to misunderstand their terrified/awed expressions...
"Look," the Sheikh demands, "it's not a big deal! I just need you to..."
They don't calm. They seem even more insecure than before.
"What is with you people?! I don't get it! You're all acting like there's a bear standing behind..." He pauses, and relaxes. "There is, isn't there?"
At this, Li snickers. She'd giggle...if she didn't risk giving her near-nude self away...
Behind the Sheikh, the bear growls. The mosque amplifies it. Around, the people scream, and head for the exits.
"Stay calm," the Sheikh shouts. "I am the imam of this flock! And I promise I will defend out precious sanctuary from this degenerate from Jahannam, if I have to..."
With a mighty swipe of his paw, the bear sends the Sheikh flying across the mosque. He lands on a pink blanket.
The bear charges him, and corners him. With both claws, he repeatedly slaps the sheikh in the face.
"GET OUT OF MY MOSQUE, YOU DEGENERATE CREATURE! GO BACK TO JAHANNAM! THE DARK FIRE WILL NOT AVAIL YOU, FLAME OF ULDUN!"
The bear keeps slapping him. He leaves scars on the poor Sheikh's face.
"HELP, HELP," the Sheikh yells. "I'M BEING DEFILED! MY MOSQUE IS BEING DEFILED! ALLAH, SAVE ME!"
Allah might save him...but Li sure won't. She climbs out the archway, and leaves her lover to the bears.
