Chapter One
Sirens could be heard as a young man got out of a orange and black 1978 Camaro. The young man was of of Japanese decent and wore a pair of black jeans and a black North Face jacket over a orange t shirt. He topped the outfit off with a orange beanie and a pair of Jordan Retro 1 Shattered Backboards. He leaned up against his car and blew into his hands watching snow fall on the Chicago ground. After a few minutes alone a black SUV pulled into the alley in front of the Camaro.
"Naruto, it's been months."
The man now known as Naruto smirked as a bald black man stepped out of the SUV.
"Darius Walker. The Black Jesus of the South Side."
Darius Walker smirked as he leaned up against the Camaro next to Naruto.
"I just know my people can do better. This neighborhood could do better. Speaking of doing better, can't believe your still pushing this rust bucket."
Naruto laughed as he patted the hood of his car. "This rust bucket has gotten me through a lot."
Darius laughed. "This car was a piece of shit when your father got it and it's a piece of shit now."
The two fell in to silence for a few moments before Darius broke it. "Any word on what district you gonna be working?"
"Why, think you'll gain a man on the inside?"
"No, just interested."
Naruto sighed. "No, I don't have my assignment yet. Everyone in my class has gotten theirs but for some reason my orders haven't dropped yet. Every time I ask I just get the run around."
Darius nodded. "Well, things will work themselves out. You're the top of your class in every category, probably just some paperwork mix up."
Naruto huffed as he removed his beanie revealing his blond hair. "Yeah I can only hope. But it's getting late, gotta be up early. You coming to the graduation."
Darius nodded. "Yeah, I'll be there."
Darius turned around to leave but stopped just before getting in his car. "Here, I got something for you."
He threw an item to Naruto who swiftly caught it.
"Your father would be proud of the man you've become. And he would also want you to drive around with four hundred and fifty five horse power at your fingertips. And also something that's not orange."
Naruto opened his hand to find a set of car keys. "Darius I can't take this."
"Naruto your father was my best friend. Saved my life once, so you take that."
He got inside his SUV and drove off. When Naruto made it back to his apartment on the North Side he found a brand new matte black 2016 Camaro SS waiting for him.
Next Day
Sergeant Hank Voight stared straight ahead as each new recruit walked across the stage officially becoming officers of the Chicago Police Department. The last name to be called was the Distinguished Graduate, Naruto Uzumaki. As Naruto walked across the stage and took pictures with the mayor Hank passed a file over to Detective Alvin Olinsky. Olinsky flipped through it and whistled.
"No wonder the kid got the award. Grew up in the South Side, graduated top of his class at UCDavis with a degree in geophysics. Joined the academy and hasn't gotten anything less then ninety five percent on a test. Scored a hundred on every PT test. Missed a total of ten shots throughout his time at the academy. Kid passes the eye test."
Voight nodded. "Yeah but there are a few red flags. His father Minato Namikaze was a known associate of Darius Walker. His college education was funded by a program that Darius finances."
Olinsky shrugged. "I get what you're trying to say, but for now all of that is circumstantial. All I see is a star applicant for our division."
"We'll see about that."
The next day Naruto walked into the building of District twenty one. He had a duffel bag slung over his shoulder and a smile on his face as he walked up to the Desk Sergeant.
"Good morning Ma'am I'm Na-"
"Naruto Uzumaki, just graduated from the academy. First day on the job."
Naruto blinked in surprise at the women as she never looked up from her computer, he gave a quick glance to her name plate before responding. "Yes Sergeant Platt first day, I'm assuming that there's paperwork I'll need to sign."
"Before you head upstairs to Intelligence you'll need to fill out these forms. But before you do that you need to head down to Headquarters for your undercover I.D."
The rookie stared at her with wide eyes. "Did you say Intelligence and undercover I.D.?"
Platt sighed. "I was told you were the top of your class but so far I'm not seeing it. Go get your I.D. and bring me back that paperwork."
Naruto nodded. "Copy, but I was wondering if I was assigned a locker yet?"
Platt just stared at him blankly and Naruto just slung his bag over his shoulder.
"I'll just check on that later."
After a few hours of running around filling out paperwork Naruto finally made it upstairs to Intelligence only to find it deserted. He sighed as he dropped his bag and kicked it into the corner. He ran his hand through his hair as he looked around the room stopping in front of a display of various types of blades.
"You must be Naruto."
He quickly spun around and came face to face with a short brown haired women. "And you are?"
She smiled at him and held her hand out. "Nadia Decotis."
He flashed her a pearly white smile. "Naruto Uzumaki, but you already knew that. I'm looking for Sergeant Voight."
"They all stepped out, working a case but they should be back soon, I think."
Naruto nodded. "Well is there a microwave around here?"
"Yeah it's in there."
She pointed to the break room and he nodded. After heating up his food he came back out and found Nadia at her desk reading a textbook.
"I recognize that book, how'd you get that? Only recruits at the academy get those."
"Officer Ruzek gave it to me, he had it laying around."
"Funny. I torched mine last night."
Nadia smiled and highlighted a section.
"You don't need to know that."
"But it sounds important."
"Just cause it sounds important doesn't mean it is important. Honestly the most important things would be dress and appearance, code of ethics and of course your physical fitness. Everything else you'll pick up while your in."
"Thank you."
Naruto nodded as he popped a piece of broccoli in his mouth. Moments later footsteps could be heard and the Intelligence unit filed in.
"I don't care if we have to drag his mother out of the retirement home! Do whatever you gotta do to find this son of a bitch!"
Naruto looked at Nadia and mouthed. "Voight?"
Nadia nodded and Naruto squared his shoulder up and went into Voight's office, knocking on the door first.
"Close the door."
Voight sat in his chair and stared at a file, Naruto's file. "You know they dropped this on my desk a month ago. For an entire month I've been trying to figure out what made you so special that a month before you graduate from the academy your name is on my desk. Haven't figured it out yet."
Naruto gulped as Voight continued. "I've read your file top to bottom, talked to your instructor's at the academy, I even called up some of your college professors. Only one person had something bad to say about you and if you ever gift wrap my office me and you will take a ride you'll never come back from."
Naruto let a small smirk come to his face. "Copy that sir."
"Good now you will be the second officer coming here straight from the academy and I've learned from that. So here's how this works for the first month you'll report in every Friday in your service dress for a spot inspection. After the first month, if you do well I'll move it to once a month. Next even though you work here in Intelligence you will respect the patrolmen downstairs so once a month you'll report in uniform and ride along with them for the day. Any other day you report in casual clothes. No jerseys, tank tops, shorts and wear shoes that you can run in."
"Understood."
Voight nodded as he leaned back in his seat. "Good. Now I do have a few rules. One we run things a certain way here and if you ever have a problem with that you bring your concerns to me. Two if anything ever happens that you can't out in front of you come to me. Tell me the truth so I can lie for you. We're a family here and we look out for our own."
"Anything else?"
Voight scratched his chin. "Not that I can think of. Get a nice night's sleep plan on having a full day tomorrow."
"I'm good to go today sir."
The Sergeant shook his head. "No we're already in the groove today and don't have time to catch you up to speed so come in early tomorrow and I'll catch you up on the case personally."
Naruto nodded and turned to leave but stopped. "Hey sir, I wasn't issued a locker from Sergeant Platt downstairs is there anyone else I can talk to about that."
"Yeah Nadia can get you one, close the door on your way out."
Naruto nodded. "See you tomorrow Sergeant."
