Hermione always wanted to meet someone who can discuss academic topic with her and is her age. And then she met Tom Riddle, who was seemingly perfect.

She was deemed a clever little girl since she was born. Always the best among her peers, went to prestige boarding school on an academic scholarship, a straight A student who got into the medical program of Cambridge, etc etc. However, Hermione was also a lonely child. The teens in her school hated a known-it-all and teased her relentlessly. And when she became an adult, she was already used to this lonesomeness.

She met Tom Riddle on a conference on the HIV/AIDS. Hermione gave a talk about the new lead she found and Tom was interested. The next thing she knew, she already got into an partnership with him. And it happened from there.

It was just like every fluffy perfect life. They met. They worked together. They fell in love. They had a family together. They even created the famous Granger-Riddle therapy for AIDS. But sometimes Hermione thought it was too perfect and she was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. It never did.

When she was lying on her deathbed, she was content. She saw Tom calling to her.

The magical world was in a mess. A hundred people was infected with a disease called Voldemort. The first case was Severus Snape. He called Lily Potter his darling wife and tried to kiss her on the graduation ceremony of Harry Potter, the son of James and Lily Potter. Later, the healers in the St Mungo found that he suffered from a severe case of hallucinations. In the next five years, people got infected one after another. The healers only knew it's infectious, but the transmission route and the etiology was a mystery. Every patient gradually worsened and forgot about their life until the day they fell into a deep sleep. They talked in their sleep, they smiled, they laughed and they seemed to be happy in their sleep. The healers were horrified to find their souls and magic decayed bit by bit until there was nothing left and they died. Some healers speculated that Voldemort is actually a magical virus that infected the host's magic and brain, and created a fake world of what the host wanted most. Due to the lack of progress, the ministry gave this project to unspeakable Granger, who was the brightest witch of her age.

Hermione Granger spent day and night in her special lab in the department of mystery. The Voldemort was simply fascinating and she found herself obsessed. After a month of sleep-deprived days, she finally separated the virus from the dead bodies. It was magnificent under the magical microscope. Hermione fell asleep in her lab that day.

When she woke again, it's already morning. It was Saturday. After having a simple breakfast, she went to her favorite bookshop where she bumped into a handsome young man. He called himself Tom Riddle.

Harry, Ron and Hermione had been best friends since their first year of Hogwarts. After graduation, they made a mutual decision to meet up every weekend because of their heavy workload as interns. Hermione said she met a man called Tom Riddle one week. However, after several weeks of listening to Hermione's gushing about Tom, Harry and Ron became suspicious. The back story of Tom's simply didn't add up and Hermione didn't seem to notice. They went to check the Hogwarts enroll entries and even visited a muggle police station. There was never a man called Tom Marvolo Riddle. They hurried to Hermione's flat to expose the fraud, but Hermione only gazed at them with a wild expression, shouting that she found a lead in the research of HIV/AIDS. When Ron questioned her about her words, she relied with a blank look and "who are you?" before fainted.

Hermione's condition worsened faster than any other patient. She talked in her sleep nonstop and went on an on about a so-called Granger-Riddle therapy. A week after her admission into the ward, Hermione Jean Granger died with a sign of "Tom" and a soft smile.

The other shoe didn't drop because all of it never happened.
