A/N: Greetings dear readers. So you know, this is my first fanfiction story, so apologies if it's a bit messy. I'm trying to develop my skills as a writer, and hopefully, you're CONSTRUCTIVE criticism can help me to do that. Now, this story will mostly revolve around my OC's, but will still correlate with the main MHA plot. Please note, that I'll be publishing new chapters when it suits me, not when you tell me to. I'm saying that, so that you don't pester me when I haven't published a new chapter in a long time, and if that happens, it's most likely that I'm either taking a break, or just too busy to do so. Anyway, I'll try to be as open as possible to any of your suggestions on how my story should go, but I make no promises. Before I end this note, please comment if I've made any errors within the story, be it grammatical, or otherwise. Also, the 'My Hero Academia' series' events, and characters belong to their respective owners: Kohei Horikoshi, and Studio Bones. However, some events, and characters in the story belong to me, so please don't steal them. Thank you for reading, and please enjoy the story. Sincerely, Meadowhare. :)

Prologue: Byodo Mutsuki: Origin

"People... are not born equal."

In this current society of ours... it would appear, that the vast majority of people seem to agree with this statement. From the people who live in luxury, to the people who live in debt. From the people who become heroes, to the people who become villains. From the people with quirks, to the people who are deemed... Quirkless.

However...

There is one young man who, in fact, was born equal. His name is Byodo Mutsuki, and he strives, not only to be a great hero, but to make, and live in a world of equality. By the way, this is the story of how he became... a hero.

It was a day during Japan's notorious rainy season. The rain had just begun to pour, and everyone was eager to head home. But behind a local primary school, were four small boys. One of the boys was cowering in a small rain puddle, wincing at all the bruises he had on his body. The boy started crying, while the other three began laughing, and making fun of him.

"Hahaha! The kid's such a crybaby!" a boy with a noticeably long tongue, began taunting.

"Honk! Honk! That's classic Somo for ya, always so easy to beat up!" adding himself to the conversation, and revealing the crying boy's name, was a boy who had a bugle horn for a mouth.

"Hehehe! It helps that he doesn't have his quirk yet! Even if he did, his wouldn't stand a chance against ours!" the last boy with straight, black hair, who appeared to be the leader of the other two, said pridefully, and with a cackle. The boy, known as Somo, then curled into a ball, and began to sob even more as they continued their laughter.

Meanwhile, from up above them, on the roof of the primary school building, stood another boy wearing what could be seen as a small cape, and helmet mask. His shadow loomed over the four children, but none of them had taken any notice of his existence. That was until...

"Hey! Leave him alone!" the mysterious boy shouted.

It was then that the children below saw him. All of them wore confused faces, as they didn't know what to make of him. Young Somo, who was still in the puddle, was just glad they're attention was no longer on him.

After a few seconds of being starstruck, the three bullies came up with a reply, "Oh yeah! And what are you gonna do if we don't do what you say!" the boys then snickered.

Suddenly, the masked boy decided to leap off the building. In reaction to that, the boys ceased their snickering, and had their mouths agape in awe, and amazement, as the boy flipped through the air, descending towards the ground at a fast rate. Unfortunately, their awe-inspired reactions was short-lived when the boy accidentally landed on his own head. Thankfully, he had his helmet cushion the impact.

The other boys' faces then quickly turned sour, as they thought of how lame that entrance was. It also didn't help when they discovered what he was wearing. The supposed helmet mask he wore was, in actuality, just a red bucket with cut-out holes for eye holes. The so-called cape was nothing more than a black and white, checkered table sheet with the ends tied around his neck. And as the boy bounced back from that humiliating entrance, his mask silently slipped off his head, revealing his true appearance.

He had short, messy, chartreuse hair, and small, cyan eyes. His skin had a bit of a small tan, and his size was rather similar to the other boys that were there. Speaking of which, the boys instantly recognized him.

"Honk! Hey, isn't that the new kid who arrived yesterday?" the horn-mouthed boy asked.

"Yeah, Mutsuki, I think his name was." the long-tongued boy answered.

"Doesn't matter who he is! We're busy with the other one, remember?" their designated leader told them. They then turned their attention back to Somo, who then began whimpering, knowing what they were gonna do to him. But before they could do anything to him, a chartreuse haired boy immediately rushed in front of him, his back facing him, his head down, and his arms outstretched. It was Mutsuki, and he had stopped the bullies right in their tracks. They, and Somo were shocked.

The leading bully then glared in anger at Mutsuki, and shouted, "Get outta the way Moss Mop!"

"I won't." Mutsuki replied simply, as he shook his head in defiance.

The bully, his frustration seeping out of his skin, clenched his fists, and yelled, "Why would you want to protect someone as pathetic as him?! He's useless, and weak! An absolute waste of space!" Somo, with tears in his eyes, winced at the comments made about him by the bully.

Why did he want to protect him?

Why did he meddle in something that didn't concern him?

Why was he doing any of this?

These thoughts ran through all of them, as the downpour began to worsen, and as lightning struck the sky. Mutsuki then took a deep breath, and answered, "Because... I can't stand by, and let someone who is outnumbered, that can't defend themselves, and who hasn't even gotten his quirk yet"—Mutsuki then lifted his head—"Get bullied by the likes of you!" he glared at the, still starstrucked, bullies.

The leading bully, after Mutsuki's speech, punched his fists together, and a yellowish energy substance appeared out of nowhere, and covered his arms. "Then I guess we're gonna haf'ta beat you up too, huh?!" he said, as a smirk grew on his lips.

Young Mutsuki then went into a defensive fighting stance, and replied with, "You can try!" before engaging in a head-to-head fight with the three bullies.

The leading bully landed some good hits on Mutsuki with his impressively strong quirk. But Mutsuki's defense was somehow, able to withstand the barrages. As for the other two bullies, they landed fewer, much weaker hits than their leader. What they all had in common though, was that they weren't giving Mutsuki the chance to fight back.

Seconds past, and Mutsuki showed no signs of giving up, which heavily angered the bullies, especially the leader. Somo, however, watched in admiration, but also despair, and disbelief. Despair that he had to have someone else fight his battle. Disbelief that, even though his arms seemed heavily bruised, and that the downpour would've been hindering his concentration, he still wouldn't give up. But Mutsuki knew he had to do whatever he could to protect Somo, for it was what he started, and he was content on finishing it.

It was then, at that precise moment that something inside him clicked. Like a fire being lit. His arms, for example, seemed stronger, more rejuvenated. Something in him knew that this was his chance to strike back. So, when all the three bullies were about to land their next hit on him, he folded his arms around his body, and at the last minute, released his arms into a double sideways chop attack. This then pushed the bullies an entire foot away from him, and had them land on their backsides.

It took awhile before the bullies got back up, due to them mostly being starstruck at Mutsuki's newfound strength. When the bullies did get up however, two of them immediately began running away. The only one left was the leader.

"Come back, you cowards!" the leader yelled after them, but it was no use, they were long gone. The leader had been abandoned. He then looked back at Mutsuki, who was standing with his arms crossed, and a look that read, 'Don't even try it'. Of which, the leader took to heart, and began running after his comrades.

Once all the bullies had fled, Mutsuki, because of exhaustion, fell towards the ground. But not before giving Somo a reassuring thumps up, and a divinare smile. Somo then immediately rushed over to him to see if he was okay. However, when he saw him, he was somehow fast asleep, just as the sky began to clear.

It was discovered when Mutsuki got home that he had manifested his quirk, which most likely happened during his fight with the bullies. His quirk was called, 'Level Playing Field', it possessed the ability to equalize one's own physical attributes with that of another person's quirk. He demonstrated this when he equalized himself with the bully leader's strength enhancing quirk, and pushed the three bullies away with it. Because of that, Mutsuki, and Somo were never bothered by those bullies ever again.

Ten years has passed since that day, and Mutsuki, and Somo had become great friends over those years. And now that they're in their third year of middle school, they must decide on their next step in life. But first, they would have to get to school on time.

"Hurry up Somo! Or else we're gonna be late to class!" a fourteen year old Mutsuki shouted behind him, as he ran at full speed.

"H-hey! It was y-your idea to watch those h-heroes defeat that g-giant villain!" a fourteen year old Somo yelled back, as he struggled to keep up with Mutsuki, his sweating being considerably noticeable.

"Man, you need to get over that stutter of yours, 'cos I can't understand a word you say Somo." Mutsuki told him, as he ran passed the school gate, and began slowing in pace. Somo, of which, was following close behind, but in a panting state, as they entered the school building.

"I can't h-help it, it happens w-when I'm s-stressed, and I'm stressed t-that we're gonna b-be late to c-class." Somo told back, while stuttering through his sentence.

"Relax! Maybe our homeroom teacher will take it easy on us." Mutsuki said, with full confidence that their teacher wouldn't reprimand them. But as soon as they entered the classroom... they were wrong.

"YOU'RE LATE! YOU THINK I'LL TAKE IT EASY ON YOU, AND NOT REPRIMAND YOU FOR THIS?!" an elderly woman, who was their homeroom teacher, yelled at the top of her lungs. Which was ironic, for she had the features of a stereotypical librarian.

Before Mutsuki, and Somo could even utter a reply, they were smacked on the head with a book, and seated in their seating arrangements with large, smoldering head bumps. With that, the teacher resumed her lesson.

"Now, before I was so rudely interrupted." she said, as she took the time to glare at Mutsuki, and Somo, who were busy rubbing the bumps on their heads, attempting to ease it's pain. "I would like to discuss on the matter of your future career options"—Mutsuki, from his seat, then lifted his head in intrigue—"And I know that most, if not all of you want a career in heroism. But listen well students..." she then pointed a menacing finger, and told them, "None of you will ever be able to become heroes! Not unless you work hard, study hard, and learn hard!"

Those shouted out words reached Mutsuki's heart, and mind. He knew just aswell, he'd have to do all those things she said if he ever had any hope on becoming a hero like his father, and achieve the dream he, and his mother envisioned.

"That also means, being able to show up on TIME!" again, the homeroom teacher glared at Mutsuki, and Somo.

She's never gonna let go of that, is she? the boys thought in unison.

After classes, the two boys decided to meet up beneath the school, near the fish pond. The first of them to speak was Somo, "S-so, what h-hero school are y-you gonna g-go to?" he asked, as he fiddled with his fingers.

"U.A.! Obviously!" Mutsuki shouted, shocking Somo in the process.

"W-wait! You're gonna t-try for one o-of the national s-schools! But i-its gonna be near i-impossi—"

"I know it's gonna be difficult! Moreso since the cutoff score this year is 79, but..." Mutsuki interrupted, as he then placed his arms behind his head, and tilted it upwards, so that he was gazing at the sky. He then went on to tell his best friend, "My father went to that school. Not only that, but it's the only place that can help me achieve my dream..." Mutsuki then walked over towards Somo, and grabbed him by the shoulders, as he told him, "A world, Somo... A world, where everyone can be seen as equal. A world of equality... is the world I wanna, at least, help make." Mutsuki then let go of Somo, and stared off into the distance, as he continued, "It's not enough for this world to live in peace, people need to know that we are all equal to each other. Only then, will we ever be able to truly live on with our differences." Mutsuki clenched his chest.

"It's what my mother would've wanted." a vision of a blond-haired woman appeared in his head, as a single tear strayed from his eye.

To be Continued...

A/N: So, this was just a small introduction to the story. Of which, I hope you liked. Anyway, the next chapter will be a continuation to the prologue (obviously), and will cover more on the main protagonists's life. I'll most likely publish this chapter sometime this week, if I'm not too busy with school work. Again, thanks for reading, and if you have any problems with the story, then please report it in a comment. I would also love to read your reviews on my story, but I won't pressure you. Okay, that's it for now, until next time! :)
